Before you dispose of them, do you put unwanted items out by the curb to see if any of your neighbors may want them?

I found a really nice free queen size mattress and box spring while out walking in New Hope MN. I pulled the "FREE" piece of paper off it and drug the mattress home first, then came back and got the box spring. Damn those things were heavy after a few blocks. I got them home, and they were both in really nice condition with no stains, didn't smell weird or anything, so I slept on them for a few years.

In the United States, is it true that when you get into an ambulance to go to the hospital, the trip costs money?

Posted by teknolog1a@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 306 comments

V48runner@reddit

That's why many Americans drive themselves, or have somebody drive them to the hospital. I shattered my leg on a merry go round when I was 5. My aunt found me, and picked me up and carried me up to my parents 2 door car, where they proceeded to set me in the back of the car and drive me to the hospital. It was beyond agony. We also didn't have health insurance, so my parents had to file for bankruptcy a few months later. I was in that cast for over a year. :(

I wish there was anything new I would ever consider purchasing, but there simply isn't. I guess about the newest thing I'd want is a 5th gen 4Runner, which dates its origins to 2010, and really isn't mechanically that different from the 4th gen, which is probably why I like it.

My dad worked full time, but my mom was just a lazy piece of shit. Since we were poor, I'd just walk around the neighborhood or hang out in the woods not far from our house. They never asked where I was, or what I was doing. The '80s were wild man.

Dana Corp fucked up pretty bad. They made the frames in Mexico, and would produce them by the thousands, and leave them outdoors, exposed to the elements, then would be later used for production, and painted on the outside. This would cause them to rust from the inside out. There were lots of lawsuits about this.

It was the '80s, so I just left the house whenever and my parents didn't ask about where I was going, or when I was coming home. Sometimes I would just walk around the neighborhood, and others I would find a ride with neighbors who were leaving our shitty and poor part of town, to go to a wealthy neighborhood, where there were rumors that you would get entire candy bars. The rumors didn't prove to be true, but there were some nice houses. I'd usually come home around 10 pm and go over my haul and stockpile some of it, in case there was a nuclear war. Not even joking about any of this.

Have you ever seen a double decker bus in America?

Posted by Much-Parsnip3399@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 584 comments

V48runner@reddit

Took a ride on one after we walked from the financial district out to the Golden Gate and across to Marin County. It took us way longer than expected and got lost a bunch of times, because this was before Google maps etc. We were clearly exhausted and the driver of one of those tour busses noticed and said if we threw some cash in the tip jar, he'd get us back to San Francisco. It was a 1970s London double decker that had certainly seen better days, but it was a fun impromptu ride that got us back to a nice pub.

You should just link to the other jalopnik article/review if that's what you're going to post. They're just regurgitating the same thing that other influencers have said. Interesting, the G-Wagon has moved to IFS, even though they had perfected the recirculating ball steering with solid axles, after having been on the same ambulance platform for decades. 😄

Honestly, I prefer the feel of them, especially considering I had to change the rack and pinion in my first gen Tacoma after only 90k miles, along with just about everything else in the IFS. :( Had none of those issues with my '83 or '85 with solid axles in my Hilxes.

V48runner@reddit

Nothing really. It's just that most of these reviewers heard another reviewer talk about it, so they just regurgitated the same drivel. It's a design compromise for solid axles and off-roading, which none of these influencers even acknowledge. They could have just gone with a balsa wood IFS, like Ford did with the Bronco, which I'm glad they didn't.

Rolling through a stop sign is called a "California stop" for some reason. But yes, generally we come to a complete stop, because that's what the sign is advising the driver to do.
