I felt like I was literally the only one that thought that until your comment. I personally like it a lot. It's out there, odd in a weird way, and I'm into it. This however, holy christ
The Tourbillon was an exception because it has all the cylinders and the gauges were designed by a Swiss watchmaker so it's car and watch nerd porn rolled into one.
I like it as something else. As an AMG GT it’s weird. It feels like the Mach e in the way that it would be a good car if they gave it a different name.
Mercedes needs to figure out their naming convention. AMG GT can mean that atrocious EV (I assume the one you meant in this case), the C190 first gen coupe, the C192 second gen coupe, or the X290 4 door.
I'll defend the honor of the C190 and C192s, but not the other 2.
i mean the amg's front and rear ends(especially the rear end) are dogshit, but it still has mostly the same side profile as before, the ferrari is dogshit throughout
Nah it's not that bad, it's a similar vibe to the rear end of the amg project one, or other hypercars where the rear is exposed and you can see things like the suspension struts behind them
Such an ignorant and borderline racist response. I see this all the time on Reddit. “Chinese people have bad taste and like ugly cars!”
Honestly, any time someone says this on Reddit, they are uninformed about the market. NA is by far the largest market for Ferrari and mb. Look at any Chinese brand vehicle. None of them look like this.
Yup. Like with massive grilles, people say it's a Chinese appeasement strategy, yet massive grilles are far more of a thing in the US market than in the Chinese market.
Yeah, he is an incredible thinker in his own way, but he's been completely disconnected from the reality of the products he designs for almost 15 years now. Apple design vastly improved once he left.
I keep saying that. I think Roma is genuinely the only good looking Ferrari since they've dropped Pininfarina, but this is on completely another level of ugly.
The interior design philosophy is great. Some really impressive design work done in the interior, would have loved to see that design philosophy with a more vintage aesthetic.
The exterior is atrocious for a ferrari, it has no appealing angle, the thing has no sexy curves or oppulent luxury, doesnt look fast or elegant, it just looks "modern".
The PRIUS is way sexier honestly. (not a shocker, the prius is great looking)
Honestly this almost feels like it's a diversion from Ferrari, "Alright guys, we're gonna make an EV but it's going to be so incredibly bad looking that everyone will hate it and nobody is going to ask for a Ferrari EV ever again!".
no, Ferrari just understood that their typical design which has been tailored around the legacy powertrain for decades doesnt work with an EV.
sure they could have taken any of their existing cars and just slapped an electric motor and a small battery in there but that would have made for a terrible car.
they had to start with a new design thats unlike anything they did before because they also wanted to make sure this is actually a good car.
Ferrari are a low volume manufacturer, they don't have to follow the same emissions regulations as bigger brands in the EU. Also Ferrari is run by the Fiat family, so there's no expectations from a parent company.
It's very clear that oil supply is not secure at all, or can have large price variations, and that EVs with good range and performance characteristics that are affordable by anyone can be built profitably in the EU (the new Twingo demonstrates this), and this leads me to the conclusion that we in the 20 years basically won't have gas stations.
There's no long term path for internal combustion engines, not even for toys.
While there's truth to much of that - John Elkan, who heads the thing, is the grandson of the Fiat guy and the family's holding company has like ~21% share in the company and Piero Ferrari is Vice Chairman and has like 10% stake in the company there's another reality: Ferrari is also a publicly traded company. You can go on the NYSE when it opens and buy a share for some dollars.
They literally have a shareholder obligation to be profitable and make money.
It's that shareholder obligation that's pushing this. While they don't need to follow all the regulations that the big mainstream manufacturers do, they have to follow some and they'll need to be positioned to adapt to future regulations, too.
Honestly this almost feels like a false flag from Ferarri, "Alright guys, we're gonna make an EV but it's going to be so incredibly bad looking that everyone will hate it and nobody is going to ask for a Ferrari EV ever again!".
Electric cars are rapidly becoming far more commoditized than the gas car market ever was. Apple realized this and figured they were far better off piggybacking on that commoditization instead of trying to stand out in a field that’s going to become a knife fight to the bottom. They’ve already figured that out with phones, they just don’t play the game for the bottom end of the market. And to be honest they hardly even specifically compete against Android phones, they just keep making better and better phones, knowing the allure of the iOS marketplace will keep drawing people over time. Especially with Gen Z being almost completely iPhone.
Ferrari is going totally the wrong direction with this car, the interior tech looks atrocious and the price is out of control. This is a $300k car at the absolute most, and even at that price it would still be coasting hard on the Ferrari name.
One thing that always confused me about the Apple Car effort was the thin margin in the auto industry. For all the investment involved where’s the upside compared to consumer electronics and services? I never got the biz case. Doesn’t mean a good biz case doesn’t exist but I was curious what their internal biz case was all about because from the outside I couldn’t see it.
Seems simple to me. For the typical bought-in Apple user, they have their hands in every facet of your life, from TV at home, iPad on the couch, MacBook at work, iPhone and Apple Watch everywhere, AVP in the Returns line… but that all severely diminishes when you get in the car, and your attention is needed elsewhere, and any interaction with Apple will be through a screen and compute unit they don’t control and is usually bad. The plan was a self driving car controlled by Siri, so not only do you get an Apple-controlled experience interacting with the car itself, but you gain much more time to interact with other Apple devices that you previously didn’t have.
I get you and that's a solid point, it's a further extension of Apple's walled garden ecosystem which makes sense conceptually, but the car entry point of tens of thousands of dollars and relatively low margin seems like a high hurdle to sell another electronics device or service. I totally understand the software defined vehicles movement is happening and Apple would naturally want to be involved but it's the automotive economics I have the most trouble with.
The seats and everything look nice, and per MKBHD the rear seat is great. But the screens and everything “techy” in the car look attrocious imo.
And a physical key slot in 2026 is just outrageous. Nobody wants to screw around with a key anymore. I don’t even use a key to get in my house anymore lol
I mean there are a lot of other options that suit you better. Basically every other EV is focused around maximizing creature comforts. If you want to be totally isolated from the driving experience, getting a Ferrari is the wrong move.
I think it's an interesting approach that they're taking, to make an EV an intentional physical driving experience. Remains to be seen if a market for that exists, because I think most EV buyers think more like you do.
And a physical key slot in 2026 is just outrageous. Nobody wants to screw around with a key anymore.
An interior designed around tactile feel having a key is very on brand. The point is to be a fashion statement and to provide a unique aesthetic. Do you honestly think that it wasn't intentional?
For the record I like a physical key but I ain't buying ~900k AUD Ferraris, or anything made after 2010. Opinions on remote start in my social circle range from "I use the key anyway, I hate it" to "I will never use a key again", though a solid 50% of us are too poor/into retro to have a choice.
I don’t even use a key to get in my house and more and more people are doing the same. When I sit in my car it should be ready to go with zero dicking around
And just about any new car will do this. A fuckin Seagull has remote start.
I just told someone "I actually think it looks fine, but it's not a Ferrari." This should be a Maserati or something competing with the Macan EV, not *over six hundred thousabd dollars*
I hate it as both. Boring, bland, uninspired and flat out fucking hideous.
If they want people to appeal to the EV market, stop making cars that look dog ugly and as futuristic cyberpunk 2077 DLC as possible. 1000+hp will not sell anymore with how easy it is to achieve those numbers nowadays, especially in an EV, just bother to fuckin try to style it & to make it look interesting for christs sake.
I guess this is what happens when the vastly overrated Jony Ive tries to design something without the supervision of Steve Jobs.. (see also everything he did in Apple, post Jobs)
How does an EV even command this price outside of just a brand prestige? I know you have to invest in a new platform but they’re not making anything more exotic than what would power a Tesla or something I assume
How does an EV even command this price outside of just a brand prestige?
Rimac and Lotus do because of bespoke carbon tub chassis, new tech for the time, crazy speed for the time, and new territory for both brands. Demand is weak, but the price is (was) not an absurd ask IMO relative to the hypercar market at the time.
McMurtry is faster than F1 cars on some tracks, downforce is astonishing, your body will quit before the car, it can literally drive upside down.
In all those cases innovation and performance are the reasons for the price. The Luce makes some incremental innovations: it has the highest energy density of an EV (marginally higher than the Nevera). Sound is generated from a vibrometer (I think) attached to the rear motors, so that what you hear is an accurate representation of what the motors are doing. The rest is standard stuff. I don't see how that justifies $650K.
It’s like an expensive piece of mid century furniture. Talentless people successfully made hand carved intricate pieces outdated and obsolete by charging more
I think Enzo, of all people, would realize that EVs have become faster than petrol cars, and if you want to continue being a performance car company, you need to make EVs.
expensive piece of mid century furniture
Should read... derivative piece of mid-century furniture. Mediocre designers copy style, and entirely miss the fundamentals of intent. I'm not arguing this is the case here, but the design process seems to have been a bit of a muddled mess.
The Luce was designed jointly by Ferrari’s Centro Stile in Maranello and LoveFrom, the design firm founded by Jony Ive—the man behind the original iPhone’s iconic look. But Ferrari says this wasn’t just a styling exercise. Engineers shaped the surfaces around aerodynamic and functional needs first, and LoveFrom essentially came in afterward to "dress" the car.<
Some redditor who is probably mediocre at everything they have ever done is going to sit here calling furniture designers "talentless". Pull your head out of your ass
Can't speak for LV, but Hermès is several steps above mainstream mass-produced luxury. I don't care for the products or the hype around them, but the quality and construction are top notch.
It won't even really matter. Because of the Ferrari game, people will be "forced" to buy this if they want to get the more special cars. I expect this to tank in value pretty hard on the used market.
How does an EV even command this price outside of just a brand prestige?
It's brand prestige all the way down. Only Ferrari can even try to pull off stuff like this. And because there are enough fans, they will sell every one of these.
Apparently I got to know you can't just buy ferraris new - I have to buy second hand ferraris and then be "allowed" to buy this so the cost is more than a million dollars easy
Not true (for all models). You can go buy a 296 (they stopped production but that's not my point), 12cilindri or Amalfi now. SF90s started hot but then were available to anyone. I think you can get the 849 testarossa without any prior profile too.
You can buy a lot of Ferrari's new, it's the special ones that you can't, they are reserved for the top customers, same for every supercar/hypercar manufacturer, somehow Ferrari always get called out for it in this sub though
This is literally "competition" now for like every 2nd Chinese EV with 1000+hp ... where their battery tech is without a doubt further ahead AND they also cost like a 1/10th of the price with punitive tariffs and additional ~20% tax already included, in Europe
It will be the fastest deprecating Ferrari ever by far. It will probably depreciate in value faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S even. The Taycan exterior looks better.
No, this is a $650k reservation for the next special edition Ferrari. They might suck in a few fools that convince themselves that this vehicle is worth it, but make no mistake, the vast majority of these cars are going to collectors so they can stay in Ferrari's ever more expensive good graces.
No chance. A Roma is one thing at $275k with a V8, existing customers who are die hard petrolheads will not buy this unless it guarantees a slot for a limited car…F80/Comp level. They don’t have enough special cars to sell all of these.
Ferrari knows it and have made a big song and dance about how this car is for a new customer. Who the fuck the customer who has $660k for a car but doesn’t already buy Ferraris is I have no idea.
Check Ferrarichat. I have never seen anything like it in my life.
The interior and the dash are beautiful… but it’s not Ferrari beautiful
If those screens and steering wheel were put in literally any other car brand, that doesn’t have the prestige of Ferrari, it would be a home run. I don’t think an Apple-watch feeling interior is ideal for a Ferrari
Truly beautiful, revolutionary interior, for a Genesis
how does the same company that brought us the puro sangre give us this? I dont understand. It looks like it was manufactured by committee. Off a catalogue. it has no lines, tf is this
forcing buyers to get one for a spot on waiting lists
This is the real answer. It does not matter what it looks like. Ferrari will force every collector on Earth to buy at least 10 of them or be blacklisted from buying Ferrari.
This is a test to see how far they can push thier die hard collectors (idiots)
I know the meme these days is that r/cars rags on everything, but wow, this is genuinely truly horrific. I mean bottom of the barrel. Good lord, what are they doing over there?
First off, that interior is stunning. I’m floored. It is giving vibes of those retro-futuristic mid-century luxury homes.
All of that is wrapped within an almost frutiger aero computer mouse styling on the outside.
Techy on the outside, retro-futuristic yet homey and comfortable on the inside. I love the ergonomics and that simple, yet beautiful interior.
With ALL of that said though… that European MSRP is horrendous. €500k for this is genuinely overpriced.
I just don’t see why anybody, except for celebrities or elites that absolutely love the design, would ever buy this for that much. I think it would have made much more sense if they tried to mass produce it and have it compete against cars like the Lucid Air Sapphire at a ~€200k price point
Man, you're being extremely generous here. The interior is fine, I guess, but nothing particularly crazy for Ferrari design-wise - it's moreso a tech showcase compared to their interiors that were more pared back until now, which may or may not play off well - since the reveal of the dash, there's been a lot of discussion about Ferrari typically being a long term ownership vehicle that is moreso timeless, and more tech well go against that heavily. As for the exterior....I'm shocked Maranello approved this. The Purosangue has at least some sex appeal for what it is, and this thing just looks like it's trying too hard to be an 80s concept car buck.
I'm not sure I'd call their current interiors "pared back" tbh. They've leaned into some more wacky batmobile-eqsue stuff and succumbed to screen overload/button lacking. (The 12 Cilindri will certainly become dated faster imo).
The tech implementation is pared back - the passenger screen is something you can option the cars without, which leaves a double-DIN style unit and a digital cluster...not all that crazy. Yes, the capacitive/haptics were bad, but that was a quick reversal and return to form. I still like the older cars better, but the current interiors aside from the Luce don't have quite that much focus on tech.
I think that Ferrari is being exceptionally bold for taking this direction, it’s almost as if they want their Ferrari EVs to mean something else.
It’s an EV. So it’s a clean sheet design, be it in terms of powertrain, and also in terms of style. I think that’s a good call.
I’d like to think that if it had typical Ferrari styling, it would dampen the significance of the gas Ferraris. That interior is fucking incredible, and the exterior could use more work to be frank. I think either way is fine, but I’m really happy Ferrari is trying something else.
The retro-futurism is incredibly sick. Disk (almost monoblock-style) wheels, the mid-century retro-futuristic interior and sensible ergonomics is incredibly cool to me.
I think you’re right that most of my compliments about the car is just focused on the interior, because I’m blown away by how much it just… works.
I think if they made changes to the exterior it would have been better, particularly the rear profile, but I don’t hate it.
of course, i dont agree with a tall, 4-door sedan CUV car conceptually, so the overall shape will never sit right with me and i dont like it, per say.
but that aside i honestly think theres a lot of things done right on this thing. the smooth and elegant styling of the exterior, gorgeous simple interior and those clean 5 spoke wheels with no extra clutter.
a lot of classic ferrari stuff that they should have never steered away from. the edgy and overdesigned scoopey-holey-splittery aggressive ferraris with 9 million lines going on inside and outside, needed to die 15 years ago if you ask me.
none of the great ferraris in history have busy and aggressive designs so i have no idea why they ever went there.
Honestly, I think the aero discs suit it better than the five spokes, and give a little more weight to it leaning into something you'd see in a design studio instead of on the street. That being said, there's way, way too much of the "mask a tall CoG vehicle with black cladding" going on here than should ever be on a Ferrari, IMHO.
I think for this Ferrari EV, they’re basically making a luxury retro-futuristic house on wheels. Old Ferraris were just luxury cruisers with a gorgeous V12, but this is just a serene EV experience.
With that said though, that price tag is absolute BS. It is not worth over €500k.
I feel completely vindicated in my skepticism that I got a lot of flak for on this sub.
Of course there's still a good chance it drives very well, but I've said for months that nothing they drip-fed about the car gave me any confidence it would be the benchmark its price and brand suggest that it should be.
Design is personal, but IMO it's "challenging" and this angle for rear passengers is a packaging disaster.
Here's the $650K question: will you be trading your Spectre for a Luce?
My mother-in-law, who couldn't tell the difference between a Lamborghini and a Tesla if they were next to each other, said it looks like a nice toy. When I told her it was done by the iPhone designer it made perfect sense to her.
It looks like a contemporary consumer product. But it doesn't look like automotive exotica like you'd expect of a Ferrari.
Props to your MIL, haha, I think the interior has an older iPhone vibe back when phones had bigger bezels and smaller screens. More modern phones with edge-to-edge screens don't have that look anymore so it conveys almost a dated look to this.
I feel like I should say something positive about it so I will say the character crease that continues over both wheel arches is nice and gives it a crouched ready to pounce look but only if you look at just that line. If you look at that crease in relation to the greenhouse the crouched look falls apart. I agree with you it's more of a consumer product and probably not far from what I'd expect from a Dyson Car, tho.
The character line suggests they were going for a Ford Indigo or Ferrari Mythos wedge on the side profile. But the glasshouse and the black cladding they've used to hide the height of the sills ruins it.
I can't get over how they've managed to make 24in wheels look tiny. It's more evocative of a boat on a trailer than a Ferrari supercar.
I looked up both of those and I see where you're going with the wedge. I didn't pick up those were 24" wheels but you're right. Maybe they're trying to shrink the visual mass of if with giant wheels and also with the black roof/pillar treatment. So then from the side it looks like an '80s-ish Ferrari in the painted portion and somebody inflated a big greenhouse for the cabin they're hiding in black all while sitting tall on those giant rims.
I will say the character crease that continues over both wheel arches is nice and gives it a crouched ready to pounce look but only if you look at just that line.
That's my favorite part of the car too, and probably the only exterior detail I like.
I actually don’t mind the design, but it’s very mass-market, not bespoke. If Apple came out with this at $65k— $45k for the car, $20k for the Apple Tax— fine. It just makes no sense as a $650k Ferrari.
That's most likely what's offending most people. I know opinions were mixed on the Roma (just to pick a random recent Ferrari) but to my eye it's sleek, stylish, and has a certain elegance. It's funny you mention Apple because it's easy to think some of this is what was left over from the Apple Car bouncing around Jony's head.
It looks very much like a toy car, not sure how well it will age.
IMO the first electric Ferrari should've been a short-range, track day-only car with massive performance with somewhat 'heritage' looks, so as to set customer expectations going forward for more mass market supercars.
I'm pretty much over ICE since getting used to EVs. Can't go back to poor acceleration, sluggish respose, noise and vibrations. Not the general feeling on this forum I'm sure but once you go EV it's hard to see the appeal of ICE, especially in realistic price ranges.
I wouldn’t say “zero chance.” Ferrari is apart from the rest of the auto industry, their clientele are completely unmoored from the normal economics of luxury car-buying. Plenty of new AI bazillionaires and Emirati princes who will buy three of these without hesitation, just to get an allocation for a Tailor-Made 849 Comp.
Their clientele buys their cars because they are status symbols. The most successful products manage to both look beautiful and look expensive, but just one of the two can be enough. This has neither.
I think they will be, this is a rich persons everyday luxury car, much like the Purosangue in a way. The 1000bhp and sporty stuff is all fluff for electric cars.
What exactly is the Luce market if it's not competing against Rimacs, EV Porsches, or EV Rolls-Royces? If you aren't aiming for performance OR luxury while still being >$600k USD, what are you doing?
The Eletre is basically in the same segment as the EV Cayenne, and you could get both of them for less than one of these and STILL have $200k leftover. If theyre the competition, I still don't see any edge for the Luce besides the badge
I feel completely vindicated in my skepticism that I got a lot of flak for on this sub.
It's fair to get flak for a car you haven't seen yet.
Now that we have seen it, we can have a conversation.
For me
Interior is great
Drive-train is poor, 530km from a 122kWh battery with 300kW charging is dismal considering the AMG GT-4 does 700km on a 106kW battery with 600kW charging.
Exterior design is just terrible. It's an amorphous blob lacking the sort of personality and musculature you need for a sports-car to feel special.
You called it. As for your question - I would rather burn $650k in my fireplace and would still get more utility from the warmth than from owning this shameful attempt at a vehicle.
I have truly never once in my life been more flabbergasted at a launch.
Saying that gets me thinking - is this the first Ferrari since the Mondial that will absolutely fall off the face of the planet in value in the same proportion as that car did?
lmao you're probably Ferrari's dream target buyer. You already own a Ferrari and an EV and several limited edition hypercars. Your reaction suggests they missed the mark very badly.
Funny you say that - I know some folks at Ferrari know that this is my account. I might be torching some goodwill here but it’s worth it to let them know how badly they’ve botched it.
That you even have to be slightly concerned that Ferrari would react badly to your Reddit posts shows how badly they need a reality check. I hope they lose gobs of money on this monstrosity.
Agreed, a wake up call might be necessary. To clarify, I’m not concerned if they react negatively to these posts - at this point in time, I’m not at all interested in throwing my hat in the ring for the next flagship 10 years from now. But yes, they’re extremely protective of the brand and definitely spend more time than one might think assessing public sentiment.
Hope you weren’t waiting for the 849 Comp 😂
Towards your other reply - I passed on it. In my opinion, the 296 and 296XX have been Ferrari’s most compelling offerings in recent times and I have both. I’l happy to cool my heels for a bit.
The seat angle is intentional I think, when you stick the battery under the floor passenger legs are higher so you lose thigh support, this brings that back. I wonder if people will like sitting in that position
It’s wild to me that so many people will pay an extra $10-20k for a badge when they buy something like a budget Mercedes. It’s embarrassingly laughable that someone out there may be willing to pay $600,000 for that Ferrari badge.
The 458 is probably my favorite Ferrari of all time, but the 296 is shockingly good in the sound department. That V6 sounds better than any turbo V8 from Ferrari and is the best sounding mid-engine Ferrari since the 458
That thing is jarring, feels completely devoid of any sort of Ferrari design charictaristics unlike the Purosangue, which they at least attempted to keep closely in-line with the rest of their lineup. They didn't even bother debuting it in Rosso Corsa.
Those were the two brands I first thought of as well. For Hyundai it looks like more of a concept, for Honda it looks more like it belongs in their 0 series… which I guess is also just a concept again.
this is sad. i was excited to see what they'd do, i thought they would go in the direction of the pininfarina battista but it looks like an EQS that was left in the sun
I think there partially forced to because (1)the battery is raising the floor of cars and thus shifting up belt lines, and (2)safety regulations incentivizing structural rigidity in the greenhouse and reducing the amount of glass.
It seems like an poor excuse for Ferrari of all brands considering not only did Porsche/Audi manage to make a sleek normal proportioned EV, but Hyundai did. Not the ioniq5, they scaled up all dimensions to hide the battery for that, but the ioniq6. Put an Ioniq 6 next to a sonota , there is zero compromise on the proportions, it has the same length, height, hoodline and beltline.
Most Waymo are the Jaguar iPace (ironically using the iStuff Apple convention that was popularized under Johnny Ive, the designer of this car), which looks way better.
This feels like a Temu version mid-tier Chinese EVs that’s going after young families with some, but not too much disposable income.
Holy shit is this Ferrari’s attempt at “well we tried this whole EV thing and nobody wanted it so we are done”?
The interior is a massive upgrade on what Ferrari has been selling, and I hope it goes into all their future cars.
That exterior though... I'd tried to be open-minded but the look of a sports car needs a certain amount of aggression to be plausible, and the Luce is just an incredibly meek-looking sedan. Honestly it reminds me of minivans from the 90s.
And that's without discussing the terrible drivetrain that offers two thirds the range of the AMG GT-4 despite having a larger battery.
It's so frustrating: I feel all the ingredients are there for a great sports EV, but they're split across several companies.
If AMG released 4.7m long 2-door version of the GT-4 -- with a smaller 70kWh battery and rear-wheel drive only to get the weight under 2000kg -- and then they put Ive's tactile, physical, precision-cut glass and metal interior on the inside, we might have a car worth owning.
No offense mate, but how does it look like a BYD? BYD cars look great for their price range. Way better designs than Ford and GM. The worst looking cars are easily American and Japanese. European and Chinese have much better designs on average. Your comment reeks of arrogance and disgust for Chinese products.
Dude, I’m known as the in-house Chinese car shill on this sub lmao. I’ve been praising Chinese EVs nonstop on this sub over the years. You really threw your accusation at the wrong person.
I simply don’t think BYDs look that good. You say American cars look bad, I think almost all American EVs look better than the bland BYD designs. And the ones that’s not bland are gaudy.
Huawei, XPeng, Zeekr, etc all look so much better than BYD.
And I think Japanese designs look much better than whatever that’s coming out of the EU OEMs these days.
I was going to comment that the interior looks like if you had apple design a car. Honestly, the exterior is pretty jarring but I think can make sense for a Ferrari EV.
But the interior, man it feels like if you asked apple to design a car interior. It's just so millennial minimalistic with those curved off square everything.
Feels like transforming the home screen of your iphone to a car interior. There's just absolutely nothing there that says "Ferrari" to me.
I don't get criticism of the interior, I much prefer the physical buttons and aluminium and glass to the plastic screen-fest in all other Ferrari interiors.
Other way around. The AMG GT tail lights are derivative of Ferrari. In reality they separately pulled from their back catalogs, but Ferrari is associated with circular tail lights, so the AMG looks like a copy.
Agreed, the tail lights are full f40 generation Ferrari. The rest of the exterior is hideous imho. The interior is beautiful tho, but I wish the had integrated that mid console screen.
Ngl, it looks like it would be really interesting... if it weren't an suv. Like seriously, it has an almost race car low front with the top of the fascia being there for extra downforce and regulation, and you stick that design on something thats the size of a large hatchback when it should be on something that is shaped like an actual Ferrari. Like I seriously want to see what this design would look like on something like the sf-90.
Bro I know exactly how fluent your country is in English. Not very, good enough for the internet I suppose. But man my Norwegian friends had a hard time talking to people in English when they first left Norway. Told me it was hard to flirt with girls because they cant be witty. Norway is nowhere near the standard of English slang 😭 you should stop drinking orange velvet my guy
Is it though? It is clean... But there is nothing luxurious or innovative about it. It is overly simple without any style or nuance. It looks like a premium economy shitbox.
Honestly, I think that's fair. I don't love all the styling of it, especially the squarishness of the screen, but I appreciate the materials and the physical interfaces. It seems like interacting with much of the car would be satisfying.
Hahahahah I don't know how - but this design just looks SO pretentious beyond parody, it's just so laughable that this made it up this many people's chain of command for THIS to be the end result.
This just feels like Ferrari gave Jony Ive free reign to do whatever and boy what a mistake that was. Absolute bastardization of the prancing horse, shameful beyond belief.
He probably pitched the interior first which arguably works somehow because he’s a product and UX designer and then they went ok lets give him the rest of car.
You guys are having silly fan fictions over this when in reality Enzo did not care that much for his road cars as long as they made him enough money to go racing.
it just screams "change for the sake of change" to me.
and on a Ferrari that just seems so sacrilegious.
it's like a parody of Silicon Valley on four wheels - like you told a tech bro from that era "design your dream car" and this is what they came up with - except it's real.
This has to be intentional. Like they are trying to "comply" but are able to say see look no one wants a EV Ferrari, let us keep making ICE ones. That's the only logical explanation I can come up with how god awful this thing looks along with the price tag.
I don't think it feels like they gave him free reign, Ferrari has had their hand in f*cking up every design for over a decade now.
Crazy how it only took 10 years to take the brand with the most aura, and turn it into the most soul-less car brand around. Outside of the 296, Ferrari's don't even look good anymore.
But as a $650k Ferrari, this is an absolute joke. I mean, this thing will be worth $100k in a year. I’m not usually a hater but this is trash design with insane pricing.
What they revealed the gauges the cluster the steering and other stuff looked way better than this whole exterior I expected they would bring some old time beauty back to life. This.. This is unacceptable and a blasphemy for everything Ferrari
I was thinking, wow that looks like someone was trying to make an EV Nissan Sentra crossover and slapped on GTR taillights on it to give it street cred.
The mad thing about EVs is that they a near limitless in terms of what you can do with packaging/layout for a vehicle. You can stick the motors and batteries damn near anywhere if your engineers are talented enough and you have ferrari budgets.
God almighty this is horrible. Not a Ferrari. Their stock price slump says it all. But, they can cancel it easily, fire the Apple designer's agency and redo a proper one.
If I had a lot of « fuck you » money to get an EV from a performance brand, I would rather go for a Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which at least looks like a Porsche, and it has roughly the same performance or better than the Luce.
Absolute turd. Looks like an uninspired Polestar without having dull, swedish design as an excuse. That body shape is round, bulbous and would be unbecoming from the lowest tier manufacturer
Genuinely the only thing I can see as decent is the steering wheel and gauge cluster. Not the center screen, it's just a other iPad tacked on a dash, and I can comfortably say that as a .model S owner. It has less power than a Plaid with one more motor, so it'll likely be slower, just like the new AMG GT63 (which I kind of like).
Fail by every means imaginable. I hate that Ferrari did such a bad job of this. They could haveade an inspiring EV for every other sports ev to aspire to. Instead they made a blob. A prious also has a low cD and I'd rather be driving one of those.
I genuinely cannot comprehend the mindset one would have to have to spend north of $600k on THAT. I would be legitimately embarrassed to say I own a Ferrari, and then show up with that fucking thing.
Why the fuck do companies think it makes sense to make electric vehicles look intentionally stupid. Are they trying to intentionally stifle sales, so they can show some board numbers that EVs don't sell or something?
It's insane how many companies do that. You can make an EV ANY shape you want. Chinese EV are going to destroy everyone else because of this.
If someone swapped the Ferrari badges for Apple logos and told me this is the cancelled Apple car and it will MSRP for $10k more then the competing Tesla I would 100% believe them.
This is so bad it might completely destroy Jon Ivey’s career, past and present. All past criticism of his designs are all of a sudden as valid as mockery of this abomination. A true “the Emperor has no clothes” moment.
Looks like the size of an SUV... No more small punchy rocket ships, this thing is more along the lines of a Constitution-class starship, like the Starship Enterprise SUV (Space Utility Vehicle)
Wow. That is so much worse than I imagined. If it was $100K, I could almost see some benefits to owning an electric Ferrari but that design coupled with that price is abusive to a properly functioning brain.
I thought the electric Mercedes AMG 4-door revealed a few days ago was bad. If this is the future of car design, the future will become an ugly, soulless, minimalistic hellscape.
Very, uh, interesting choice to use a twenty year-old futuristic design language for the interior. It has NOT been long enough for late 00s-early-10s industrial design to be "retrofuturist". I'm sure people will love this interior in 2050, though.
What the name of AI is going on with the measurements in this paragraph?
>The final result is a car that’s 197.6 inches long—or about as long as a Tesla Model S. It’s also 78.7 inches wide, 60.6 meters tall, and about 2.0 inches lower than the Purosangue.
If it was an EV competing with the VW iD or Tesla Y I think it would stand out as a better design.
For a blob on wheels it’s cool. The headlights, the taillights, pretty nice looking.
If you had showed me this without a badge and asked me to guess the automaker, I don't think I would have EVER guessed Ferrari. And did anyone notice from the article that it's apparently 60.6 meters tall?
This is unequivocally the biggest POS Ferrari has ever launched. It literally has 0 redeemable or admirable qualities whatsoever.
Don't need to say much on the looks, its hideous. The proportions are all off because its electric and has a battery in the floor (runs into the same problem as the new BMW i3 where its too narrow). Looking at the rims make me want to gouge my eyes out. Those crappy 5 spokes belong on a Pimp my ride Chrysler 300 from the early 2000s. I'm almost surprised you can't option it with spinners. The fitment of the wheels is terrible, it makes the car looks like its on stilts (made worse by the black trim surrounding the wheel wells).
There's a reason Apple booted Jony Ive and their products IMMEDIATELY got better (new Macbook Pros got HDMIs back and weren't obsessed with being thin). Ferrari should have learned their lesson
All this could've been forgiven, if it was a good performer. But no, its 600k, quad motor, only 1000hp (crazy thing to say) and 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Sounds fast, but it gets spanked by literally every one of its EV performance competitors (Model S Plaid, Taycan Turbo GT, Lucid Air Sapphire). If it had a V8 or V12, that would differentiate it in the market, but since they went electric they all deliver the same driving experience.
The Plaid especially is 4 years old now and you can get a track pack version for 1/10th of the price of this turd. It will look better, have better technology, have more range and more power.
At what point do exotic brands like Ferrari completely lose their relevance in today's EV market? this car is a clear indicator that it simply doesn't make sense at all, just keep making v12s because this ain't it, good effort though haha
They could at least have made a competitor to the Rimac and YangWang U9 that proves EV sport cars could be good and they make a glorified SUV instead. Great.
Ferrari is what got me into cars. They've been my favorite in every game and whatever. Walked into a Ferrari dealership and for the first time in my life I was indifferent. The only think that i was REMOTELY interested in was the Roma. The 849 Is ugly and putrid, the purosangue shouldn't even be a ferrari. The 296 is meh but its missing the pinafarina beauty that the prior models did. All empires must fall I guess RIP
The electrical engineering of this car is just embarrassingly outdated by over a decade it just looks foolish compared to her even a basic Chinese byd seal!!!!
That interior just looks so uncomfortable and unexciting with all its hard surfaces and hard edges it's really like something from the '60s in every bad way. If you compare it to like a tycan or AMG 63 4 door interior it looks like hell. Would you rather spend your driving time in something that resembles a factory or an office or would you like it to resemble a comfortable home? I guess being good at designing a very simple one-dimensional appliance doesn't necessarily translate well into designing 3D spacers for humans to spend extended periods of time in. This looks more Guantanamo Bay than Hamptons and more torture chamber than luxury resort.
I think it's pretty cool. Sure, it's crazy expensive and I don't think they nailed every aspect of it, but to me modern Ferrari is about pushing the envelope. Like what you'd expect from fashion brands. There's plenty of traditional brands if you don't want something that's pretty out there.
I don't like every design they put out lately. Most I don't. I think the 12 Cilindri looks off for example which is a controversial opinion on its own I guess. But they're trying things and I think that makes this cool. They're going in a design direction that is a little weird but certainly interesting and keeps things fresh.
It reminds me a bit of early 2000s Ducati supersports. That was a time all other brands went with contrasting black panels, holes in the fairings and lots of sharp lines. Whereas Ducati went with clean and simple lines like on the 999. Compare that to an R1 of the same age.
So yeah, I think this is interesting and has some good looking angles to it. It does look fairly Mercedes EQ-ish and obviously the price is stupid, but for the people buying this I don't think price is much of a consideration.
Jony Ive is the most overrated designer on the planet. Why did Ferrari do this? Someone else said—“I don’t hate it as a car, but I hate it as a Ferrari.” I agree. Ferrari shit their pants on this one-shoulda kept it designed on their own.
But, because it’s Ferrari they’ll sell out instantly and resume the 1 million % margin they’ve always enjoyed because it’s the most valuable brand of all time
I think I’m the 1% based on the comments. I love it. Now that doesn’t mean much because I’m not stupid rich and my house is worth like half of that car.
Even if this car wasn't made by Ferrari, it would still be the most blandest soulless car ever made, it being a part of ferrari's lineup is just takes it an extra mile of "what the fuck"
"The final result is a car that’s 197.6 inches long—or about as long as a Tesla Model S. It’s also 78.7 inches wide, 60.6 meters tall, and about 2.0 inches lower than the Purosangue. "
One of the ugliest cars I have ever seen and to think it is a Ferrari, makers of some of the best looking cars ever, and that they laughably expect people are going to be paying 500k Euros for this.
Why on earth would anyone with the pedigree like Ferrari hire Jony Ive's company to design their next model? Yikes. This is so hideous that I feel like it was done as some type of weird trojan horse on Ive's part.
This is almost as bad as what Jaguar pulled back in 2024.
So many mentally lost people are in positions of influence at these companies making such insane decisions that negatively impact their companies. Frightening.
Brought to you by dudes who worked at STMicroelectronics and Apple.
Think this thing looks OK as a $50k EV but completely unacceptable from Ferrari in spirit, form, anything. Agree with everyone.
I specifically like the retro-modern door panel designs, reminds me of the 412 and the lot, but outside of that, nothing special at all. The Ive switchgear is fine too, but echo what others have said about the arrogance of it all at this price. Just like the Cybertruck, a unique product the buyer of which we can clearly take the measure of.
All-in-all, disappointing for all the predictable reasons - so equally frustrating to see them still deliver this. Especially after news they'll sell a fake manual, pretty much disinterested in the brand now.
That is the Freddy Krueger of the EV world. To borrow from the cinematic genius of Dead Pool,
Do you like what you see?
No. It looks like an avocado had sex with an older, more disgusting avocado. Not gently. Like it was hate-fcking. There was something wrong with the relationship and that was the only catharsis that they could find without violence.
That’s what that thing looks like.
I drive two EVS and wouldn’t be caught dead in this one.
Of the cars that have no Pininfarina involvement, I think the 296GTB is actually quite handsome. This made me revisit the F12/812, though - I didn't realize Pininfarina were involved in the process for that car, but that explains why it has some classic Ferrari details.
It's aggressively generic. It makes me feel absolutely nothing. Which is the exact opposite of what I expect from a Ferrari. So many way better looking sport SUVs coming out of China. This thing is DOA.
I think a lot of these reactionary commenters are forgetting that this a global car, and that EV adoption globally is significantly higher than in the US. Therefor, Ferrari building an EV makes a lot of sense. With that being said, this is ugly as hell. I am going to assume the 650K price tag is likely that high because Ferrari expects the volume to be awfully low. My guess would be this is a global car that is really just for China.
Everyone is (rightly) focusing on how bad the car looks, but lets not gloss over how bad this article is as well. It 100% feels like it was written by Chat GPT.
Who in their right mind would even spend half of 650K for this pile of trash ? Have Ferrari become so out of touch that they think THIS is what their clientele wants ? No one is ever going to buy this
Looks like an appliance. Maybe even more like an appliance than the EVs that actually are meant to be appliances. I call DoA, with depreciation curve that looks like the Marianas Trench.
Most people don't dislike EVs because they are electric. They hate EVs because they are seemingly always designed to look ugly AF like this. The most popular EVs are the ones that just look like ordinary cars that you would never suspect to be an EV until you popped open the hood to see the lack of an engine.
I like the interior a lot. The looks are questionable. But it comes in cool colors and with cool wheels and has like 260 horsepower a wheel. I would buy this bad boy in a heartbeat at $45K. But there’s no way in hell this is selling well at over $650,000. What is Ferrari smoking? This looks like a cute Hyundai. Watch these be 90K used next year.
It doesn't look bad it just doesn't look like anything worth six figures let alone a prancing horse badge. That interior is hideous as expected. Jonny I've is an overrated hack and it speaks volumes about Ferrari that they chose to do business with him.
Out of love <3 for Ferrari, not hate: some prancing horses should stay in the stable. Search “Remove new Ferrari petition” and sign if you agree. https://c.org/McJTztCMSD
Not surprised at all the hate here.
But would we rather have a normal looking Ferrari EV coupe with fake engine noises and fake shifting?
I’m glad they tried something new. EV is a good place for them try something controversial.
Also the ideas of combining screens and buttons the way they did inside is something we should want for new cars. The way they work together, and the tactility of everything.
This is ugly as sin. Fucking hell why did Ferrari stop working with Pininfarina. I can’t wait for the idiots to be forced to buy 3 in the hopes they’ll be allowed to purchase an F80.
They maybe that ugly AMG EV isn't that ugly. Take away the badge and this could've been any chinese EV on the outside. The interior is like from a completely different vehicle.
It's painfully annoying to me that every EV designer thinks their design has to be synonymous with Tesla in some way. A car doesnt need to "look electric powered" at all.
I don’t hate the design. It’d be strong as a Model 3 competitor. But for Ferrari to go with something that is so mass market looking, something that looks like it’s from Toyota or Hyundai, is just a complete dismissal of what attracts people to the brand.
I actually think the interior is amazing. It looks insanely classical and retro, but somehow also feels modern enough for 2026. Ive and Newsom really knocked it out of the park with this and I wouldn't mind seeing this interior in a 12Cilindri
Ferrari is commiting suicide with this car. They should have studied the mechanical vs quartz crises and made the proclamation to never stop producing v12.
The final result is a car that’s 197.6 inches long—or about as long as a Tesla Model S. It’s also 78.7 inches wide, 60.6 meters tall, and about 2.0 inches lower than the Purosangue.
I liked the design of the 12 Cilindri when others didn’t. I liked the design of the 849 Testarossa when others didn’t. I liked the design of the F80 when others didn’t.
Apparently I do have a line, and this crosses it. 🤢
This is what the Sony/Honda car should have been, at a tenth the price too. If this was that, this would’ve been a complete game changer to compete against Tesla and Lucid. But nope…..!
I think this would have been well received if it was badged as an Audi or Volvo or any other more mainstream luxury brand. Without the prancing horse glued on there, no one would think this is a Ferrari, or from any exclusive sports car manufacturer. I don't necessarily think it's ugly, but it's not pretty either. The interior does have nice touches, such as the single piece of aluminum running across the dash. More than half a million though?! Who would want this over a 296 Speciale?
Just buy a Maserati GranTurismo Folgore EV instead, very underrated EV. Look at the GranTurismo and this back to back... A struggling, small brand like Maserati being able to build the GranTurismo Folgore EV is undeniable proof that there are no excuses for this "Ferrari".
I’ve been stewing over this. I just don’t get it. It’s not doing anything for the Ferrari brand is currently propositioned. There is no technology they are referencing that sets it apart and on paper it’s just competing with any number of EVs with similar performance and styling, but for a third or less of the cost. I’m sure the token Ferrari buyer will buy it but why develop this? Ferrari could have made money and positive PR so many other ways. What am I missing?
I can understand what they're going for, but they didn't actually do it at all. The super-high quarter panels make the entire thing look massive, and the roofline is just awkward. It's like someone took a Testarossa, sanded it down, and stretched it around to be the shape of a small SUV. What a shame.
Liberated from the constraints of engine and transmission placement, the auto design industry is finally free to realize their dream of making every car look like a Prius.
This feels like a fever dream and I’m slowly going into a coma. There is no fucking way this is a real vehicle and it’s a real vehicle bearing a Ferrari badge…
This is not the route Ferrari. Make manual gated transmissions, V12s, V8s, anything but this. Interior looks great but this is a worse exterior design than most Kia’s.
I am not joking when I say a child could come up with a better-looking design.
What is with car designers these days? How can they be this ignorant about the ridiculousness of their designs, like did they really take a look at this and pat themselves on the back for a job well done?
Man that's just...ugly. Ferrari been a bit hit or miss recently but that's just fuck ugly. Might actually take the cake as the ugliest Ferrari since the Mondial T
I think they did that on purpose. Build an absolutely hideous car with mediocre specs and totally overpriced. Then claim that nobody wants to buy an electric sports car and continue selling fossils
I have personally liked the recent 849, F80, 12C etc even though they have been controversial cars.
This though I do not understand at all. None of this says "ferrari", this really looks like the cheapest EV that is trying to look different and futuristic. actually Wtf.
This looks like an innovative car you could by from BYD or Alfa, but not a 600k Ferrari.
There's no way ferrari buyers want this. Or any buyer for that price.
How do they get only 530km of range out of a 122 kWh battery whilst having efficient aerodynamics. It’s like having the worst of both worlds. Mercedes gets 800-900km out of that.
Why does it have to look like a Prius or Model Y? Does anyone give a shit how efficient your EV Ferrari is? Just make it amazing to look at and handle at least as well as a Taycan. No one is really going to drive 300 miles in one of these anyway. Total fail, and bad for the EV world in general.
Brand ruined. Irreparable damage to the whole brand image. Biggest automotive fail ever. There are no words for this. Are they actively trying to destroy the company on purpose? There is no other explanation for this.
Usually I roll my eyes at this sub's kneejerk negative reactions to anything new but this is actually a terrible-looking car. Like actually what the fuck were they doing in there.

That is purely awful.
Wtf is going on this month, first the GT 4 Door coupe, and now this..
TangerineBroad4604@reddit
This legitimately makes the AMG GT look good
PEEWUN@reddit
The AMG GT is just a waste of proportions. This car was lost from the start.
dustincb2@reddit
I liked the AMG lol
farewelltokings2@reddit
I felt like I was literally the only one that thought that until your comment. I personally like it a lot. It's out there, odd in a weird way, and I'm into it. This however, holy christ
MeasurementFront9598@reddit
Craziest thing people hate the rear but I think its the best looking part of the car, the front could get rid of that light bar tho
MarauderMac@reddit
I also like the AMG GT! The Luce looks like an appliance
Khal_Kitty@reddit
I like it at certain angles. I think it’s going to grow on most people just like the big grill BMW’s.

strongmanass@reddit
The Tourbillon was an exception because it has all the cylinders and the gauges were designed by a Swiss watchmaker so it's car and watch nerd porn rolled into one.
A_Fartist@reddit
I like it as something else. As an AMG GT it’s weird. It feels like the Mach e in the way that it would be a good car if they gave it a different name.
Cater_the_turtle@reddit
Especially given the pricing
rootbeer123@reddit
Mercedes needs to figure out their naming convention. AMG GT can mean that atrocious EV (I assume the one you meant in this case), the C190 first gen coupe, the C192 second gen coupe, or the X290 4 door.
I'll defend the honor of the C190 and C192s, but not the other 2.
MLPorsche@reddit
i still feel the AMG GT looks worse, but that's because this looks like an anonymous blob
TangerineBroad4604@reddit

New-Natural-9288@reddit
Such an ignorant and borderline racist response. I see this all the time on Reddit. “Chinese people have bad taste and like ugly cars!”
Honestly, any time someone says this on Reddit, they are uninformed about the market. NA is by far the largest market for Ferrari and mb. Look at any Chinese brand vehicle. None of them look like this.
kill-the-maFIA@reddit
Yup. Like with massive grilles, people say it's a Chinese appeasement strategy, yet massive grilles are far more of a thing in the US market than in the Chinese market.
Khal_Kitty@reddit
Stop regurgitating the China thing.
James_Vowles@reddit
That was a thing 10 years ago with luxury cars, not anymore
They'll just get anyone who wants a special Ferrari to buy one of these first anyway
Porencephaly@reddit
That hasn’t worked well for Porsche. Ferrari is a different animal, but I hope it flops as badly as its design deserves, they need a reality check.
James_Vowles@reddit
Long term yeah it's not a good but in the short term to pretend to everyone that people want it
I don't see how they get away with a £440k base electric car that looks like that. Worlds gone mad if they pull it off
cookingboy@reddit
No one in China is gonna buy this. Cars that cost 1/10th as much look better and have better performance there.

However, the longer he’s in the business the worse I think his designs become.
EcstaticAsparagus509@reddit
Many say that's because Steve Jobs provided a counterbalance to Ive's extreme design ego. Perhaps that's what happened.

Pixelplanet5@reddit
no, Ferrari just understood that their typical design which has been tailored around the legacy powertrain for decades doesnt work with an EV.
sure they could have taken any of their existing cars and just slapped an electric motor and a small battery in there but that would have made for a terrible car.
they had to start with a new design thats unlike anything they did before because they also wanted to make sure this is actually a good car.

MaraudingWalrus@reddit

It looks like a mid- to low-end EV from Ford, like the Capri.
No wonder Apple abandoned the Apple Car project if this was the sort of design Ive and his team were pushing.
WumboTactical@reddit

_galaga_@reddit
One thing that always confused me about the Apple Car effort was the thin margin in the auto industry. For all the investment involved where’s the upside compared to consumer electronics and services? I never got the biz case. Doesn’t mean a good biz case doesn’t exist but I was curious what their internal biz case was all about because from the outside I couldn’t see it.
hutacars@reddit
_galaga_@reddit
I get you and that's a solid point, it's a further extension of Apple's walled garden ecosystem which makes sense conceptually, but the car entry point of tens of thousands of dollars and relatively low margin seems like a high hurdle to sell another electronics device or service. I totally understand the software defined vehicles movement is happening and Apple would naturally want to be involved but it's the automotive economics I have the most trouble with.
hamdelivery@reddit
Oh I think the interior is actually very very nice but the exterior kills the whole thing
WumboTactical@reddit
The seats and everything look nice, and per MKBHD the rear seat is great. But the screens and everything “techy” in the car look attrocious imo.
And a physical key slot in 2026 is just outrageous. Nobody wants to screw around with a key anymore. I don’t even use a key to get in my house anymore lol
Slam_Beefsteel@reddit
I mean there are a lot of other options that suit you better. Basically every other EV is focused around maximizing creature comforts. If you want to be totally isolated from the driving experience, getting a Ferrari is the wrong move.
I think it's an interesting approach that they're taking, to make an EV an intentional physical driving experience. Remains to be seen if a market for that exists, because I think most EV buyers think more like you do.
hutacars@reddit
It’s not just an EV thing, but rather a baseline expectation for any new car above $20k in 2026 thing. Hell, my 2010 Mazda had keyless start!

Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
An interior designed around tactile feel having a key is very on brand. The point is to be a fashion statement and to provide a unique aesthetic. Do you honestly think that it wasn't intentional?
For the record I like a physical key but I ain't buying ~900k AUD Ferraris, or anything made after 2010. Opinions on remote start in my social circle range from "I use the key anyway, I hate it" to "I will never use a key again", though a solid 50% of us are too poor/into retro to have a choice.
And just about any new car will do this. A fuckin Seagull has remote start.

strongmanass@reddit
I don't see how that justifies $650K.
rugbyj@reddit
We need a subreddit swear jar for every time this gets mentions about a car with aggressive downforce.

F1_Geek@reddit
You know what? I think this is cool.
I think it would have made much more sense if they tried to mass produce it and have it compete against cars like the Lucid Air Sapphire at a ~€200k price point
aprtur@reddit
Nicktyelor@reddit
I'm not sure I'd call their current interiors "pared back" tbh. They've leaned into some more wacky batmobile-eqsue stuff and succumbed to screen overload/button lacking. (The 12 Cilindri will certainly become dated faster imo).
If anything I think this signals a return to form imo. Finding the right blend of tech and analog controls. And there's a high level of quality visible in this new one that I've never seen in a Ferrari.
aprtur@reddit
The tech implementation is pared back - the passenger screen is something you can option the cars without, which leaves a double-DIN style unit and a digital cluster...not all that crazy. Yes, the capacitive/haptics were bad, but that was a quick reversal and return to form. I still like the older cars better, but the current interiors aside from the Luce don't have quite that much focus on tech.
F1_Geek@reddit
I don’t think so.
I think if they made changes to the exterior it would have been better, particularly the rear profile, but I don’t hate it.
elastic_woodpecker@reddit
Ferrari is a luxury product; making them reasonably priced actually hurts desirability. Celebrities love the high price as it tickles their ego.
876oy8@reddit
of course, i dont agree with a tall, 4-door sedan CUV car conceptually, so the overall shape will never sit right with me and i dont like it, per say.
but that aside i honestly think theres a lot of things done right on this thing. the smooth and elegant styling of the exterior, gorgeous simple interior and those clean 5 spoke wheels with no extra clutter.
a lot of classic ferrari stuff that they should have never steered away from. the edgy and overdesigned scoopey-holey-splittery aggressive ferraris with 9 million lines going on inside and outside, needed to die 15 years ago if you ask me.
none of the great ferraris in history have busy and aggressive designs so i have no idea why they ever went there.
aprtur@reddit
Honestly, I think the aero discs suit it better than the five spokes, and give a little more weight to it leaning into something you'd see in a design studio instead of on the street. That being said, there's way, way too much of the "mask a tall CoG vehicle with black cladding" going on here than should ever be on a Ferrari, IMHO.
F1_Geek@reddit
I agree, the black cladding is not it. They definitely could have done the exterior more justice.
F1_Geek@reddit
You nailed what I was thinking.
I think for this Ferrari EV, they’re basically making a luxury retro-futuristic house on wheels. Old Ferraris were just luxury cruisers with a gorgeous V12, but this is just a serene EV experience.
With that said though, that price tag is absolute BS. It is not worth over €500k.
cherrybomber11@reddit

strongmanass@reddit
I feel completely vindicated in my skepticism that I got a lot of flak for on this sub.
Of course there's still a good chance it drives very well, but I've said for months that nothing they drip-fed about the car gave me any confidence it would be the benchmark its price and brand suggest that it should be.
Design is personal, but IMO it's "challenging" and this angle for rear passengers is a packaging disaster.
Here's the $650K question: will you be trading your Spectre for a Luce?
_galaga_@reddit
There’s a Jony Ive/Fisher Price vibe to it that I have a hard time putting into more sophisticated words. It’s almost toy-ish.
strongmanass@reddit
My mother-in-law, who couldn't tell the difference between a Lamborghini and a Tesla if they were next to each other, said it looks like a nice toy. When I told her it was done by the iPhone designer it made perfect sense to her.
It looks like a contemporary consumer product. But it doesn't look like automotive exotica like you'd expect of a Ferrari.
_galaga_@reddit
HeyyyyListennnnnn@reddit
The character line suggests they were going for a Ford Indigo or Ferrari Mythos wedge on the side profile. But the glasshouse and the black cladding they've used to hide the height of the sills ruins it.
I can't get over how they've managed to make 24in wheels look tiny. It's more evocative of a boat on a trailer than a Ferrari supercar.
_galaga_@reddit
I looked up both of those and I see where you're going with the wedge. I didn't pick up those were 24" wheels but you're right. Maybe they're trying to shrink the visual mass of if with giant wheels and also with the black roof/pillar treatment. So then from the side it looks like an '80s-ish Ferrari in the painted portion and somebody inflated a big greenhouse for the cabin they're hiding in black all while sitting tall on those giant rims.
strongmanass@reddit
That's my favorite part of the car too, and probably the only exterior detail I like.
hutacars@reddit
I actually don’t mind the design, but it’s very mass-market, not bespoke. If Apple came out with this at $65k— $45k for the car, $20k for the Apple Tax— fine. It just makes no sense as a $650k Ferrari.
_galaga_@reddit
That's most likely what's offending most people. I know opinions were mixed on the Roma (just to pick a random recent Ferrari) but to my eye it's sleek, stylish, and has a certain elegance. It's funny you mention Apple because it's easy to think some of this is what was left over from the Apple Car bouncing around Jony's head.
ThaddeusJP@reddit

I'm pretty much over ICE since getting used to EVs. Can't go back to poor acceleration, sluggish respose, noise and vibrations. Not the general feeling on this forum I'm sure but once you go EV it's hard to see the appeal of ICE, especially in realistic price ranges.
hutacars@reddit
They have their place. I still daydream about the GRC on occasion, for example.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Yeah - EVs have their pace for sure. I’d be all over an E-Class sized wagon EV for a daily.
I’d want a small ICE Porsche sedan as a dual use track/daily so I could go back down to one car.
Tracking an EV is still logistically difficult at most tracks, and are brutal on tires/brakes due to the weight.
Sports cars are equipment for the sport of driving - and I still consider changing gears and managing the powerband of an ICE a part of that sport.
BrunoEye@reddit
At least the Taycan looks good and costs a fraction of what this does. There is zero chance this does well.
Porencephaly@reddit
I wouldn’t say “zero chance.” Ferrari is apart from the rest of the auto industry, their clientele are completely unmoored from the normal economics of luxury car-buying. Plenty of new AI bazillionaires and Emirati princes who will buy three of these without hesitation, just to get an allocation for a Tailor-Made 849 Comp.

Spectre and Luce appeal to different markets, and I doubt they will be cross shopped.
James_Vowles@reddit
I think they will be, this is a rich persons everyday luxury car, much like the Purosangue in a way. The 1000bhp and sporty stuff is all fluff for electric cars.
Porencephaly@reddit
That’s another baffling thing about the Luce: the price. It’s not even the best available choice of $600,000 four-door Ferraris.
James_Vowles@reddit
that's a good point, really begs the question, why would anyone buy this Ferrari when there are better ones for a similar price
hutacars@reddit
Save money on gas? /s
hutacars@reddit
You’re right; the target buyer will buy both.
Witherino@reddit
What exactly is the Luce market if it's not competing against Rimacs, EV Porsches, or EV Rolls-Royces? If you aren't aiming for performance OR luxury while still being >$600k USD, what are you doing?
HillarysFloppyChode@reddit
Performance EV, like the Lotus Electre and the sedan they do.
Witherino@reddit
The Eletre is basically in the same segment as the EV Cayenne, and you could get both of them for less than one of these and STILL have $200k leftover. If theyre the competition, I still don't see any edge for the Luce besides the badge
budgefrankly@reddit
It's fair to get flak for a car you haven't seen yet.
Now that we have seen it, we can have a conversation.
For me
Interior is great
Drive-train is poor, 530km from a 122kWh battery with 300kW charging is dismal considering the AMG GT-4 does 700km on a 106kW battery with 600kW charging.
Exterior design is just terrible. It's an amorphous blob lacking the sort of personality and musculature you need for a sports-car to feel special.
Performance is poten
ExecrableGeneration@reddit
lmao that seat angle. I have car sickness just looking at it.
unatleticodemadrid@reddit
You called it. As for your question - I would rather burn $650k in my fireplace and would still get more utility from the warmth than from owning this shameful attempt at a vehicle.
I have truly never once in my life been more flabbergasted at a launch.
cookingboy@reddit
Yeah this isn’t just a bad car, it will go down history as a stain on Ferrari’s brand overall.
It makes the entire brand less desirable. They are so far up their own ass if they think this is worth $650k.
You can get a 296GTB and a Taycan Turbo S for the same money.
TangerineBroad4604@reddit
Given the depreciation this thing will have, probably the same as burning $650K in a fireplace anyway
aprtur@reddit
Saying that gets me thinking - is this the first Ferrari since the Mondial that will absolutely fall off the face of the planet in value in the same proportion as that car did?
strongmanass@reddit
lmao you're probably Ferrari's dream target buyer. You already own a Ferrari and an EV and several limited edition hypercars. Your reaction suggests they missed the mark very badly.
unatleticodemadrid@reddit
Funny you say that - I know some folks at Ferrari know that this is my account. I might be torching some goodwill here but it’s worth it to let them know how badly they’ve botched it.
strongmanass@reddit
I suspect you're not the only target buyer reacting that way, and to use a phrase out of context, they can't arrest all of you.
Porencephaly@reddit
That you even have to be slightly concerned that Ferrari would react badly to your Reddit posts shows how badly they need a reality check. I hope they lose gobs of money on this monstrosity.
unatleticodemadrid@reddit
Agreed, a wake up call might be necessary. To clarify, I’m not concerned if they react negatively to these posts - at this point in time, I’m not at all interested in throwing my hat in the ring for the next flagship 10 years from now. But yes, they’re extremely protective of the brand and definitely spend more time than one might think assessing public sentiment.
Towards your other reply - I passed on it. In my opinion, the 296 and 296XX have been Ferrari’s most compelling offerings in recent times and I have both. I’l happy to cool my heels for a bit.
Porencephaly@reddit
I agree the 296 variants are the most attractive thing they sell right now, other than the F80.
James_Vowles@reddit
The seat angle is intentional I think, when you stick the battery under the floor passenger legs are higher so you lose thigh support, this brings that back. I wonder if people will like sitting in that position
ossi609@reddit
It would look pretty great as a new Peugeot model.

Was it Johnny Ive who was very nervous about the debut? Said it would be controversial.
HillarysFloppyChode@reddit
Unfortunately for Jony Ive, Dieter Rams hadn’t done a car.

mecker-zausel@reddit
Controversial would mean that there are two camps - people who like the car, and people who don't.
I only see one camp.
anony_mf@reddit
Johnny Ive may be good for designing Apple products but he should have never been hired for designing a Ferrari
His design language doesn’t fit with Ferrari
Ironically if he had used this type of design for an icar it would have been a hit
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit
I saw the pictures, and then scrolled and saw the price and almost burst out laughing.
550k Euro $640,000 USD for this.
For pretty much the same performance as a Model X/Model S Plaid.
elastic_woodpecker@reddit
At least the Ferrari has usable brakes for driving fast.
unatleticodemadrid@reddit
I’m even willing to entirely disregard performance and price if the car’s pretty. This is farcically ugly.
mellofello808@reddit
There are times when Ferraris take a while to grow on you. When I first saw a 458 I hated it. Now I lust for them.
I can 100% defenitivly say that this design will never grow on me.
lee1026@reddit
How often do you see Ferraris to get used to them?
mellofello808@reddit
Pretty often. I live in an affluent area where super cars are not uncommon.
Little-Mushroom-3961@reddit
Sometimes I swear luxury brands just release horrible shit on purpose to just laugh at how stupid some rich people are.

Pretty much plaid efficiency?
darkmoon72664@reddit
530km puts it at 328 mi WLTP, or like 280 EPA on all 122kWh pack. 2.3 mi/kWh vs. Like 3.5 mi/kWh for the Plaid.
It's nearly Nevera efficiency though, albeit with half the power.

The 458 is probably my favorite Ferrari of all time, but the 296 is shockingly good in the sound department. That V6 sounds better than any turbo V8 from Ferrari and is the best sounding mid-engine Ferrari since the 458

When is this "paint the bottom half black to disguise the humongous beltline" shit going to end. It's beyond obnoxious at this point.
Nicktyelor@reddit
To be fair, when you paint that lower area, the car does look extremely fat.
leedle1234@reddit
That's my point, they shouldn't be designing these as fat blobs to begin with, the black paint is literally lipstick on a pig.
Nicktyelor@reddit
I think there partially forced to because (1)the battery is raising the floor of cars and thus shifting up belt lines, and (2)safety regulations incentivizing structural rigidity in the greenhouse and reducing the amount of glass.
leedle1234@reddit
It seems like an poor excuse for Ferrari of all brands considering not only did Porsche/Audi manage to make a sleek normal proportioned EV, but Hyundai did. Not the ioniq5, they scaled up all dimensions to hide the battery for that, but the ioniq6. Put an Ioniq 6 next to a sonota , there is zero compromise on the proportions, it has the same length, height, hoodline and beltline.
ycnz@reddit
Someone just needs to take their bucket of black fucking paint away.

Most Waymo are the Jaguar iPace (ironically using the iStuff Apple convention that was popularized under Johnny Ive, the designer of this car), which looks way better.

Holy shit is this Ferrari’s attempt at “well we tried this whole EV thing and nobody wanted it so we are done”?
If so it will work lol.
Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
Don't forget 122 kWh of battery for sub 300 miles of range!
FourEyesAndThighs@reddit
Hummer EV is even worse. 300 mile range for ~200 kWh. Pretty sure it's currently the most inefficient EV on the market.
Clover-kun@reddit
The Hummer is shaped like a brick, the Luce is shaped like a generic aerodynamic blob
Popular-Ad-3278@reddit
To me the interior was ok.
Nothing spesial just ok .
But reading som comments here and the i get the impression most ppl hate that too 😅
budgefrankly@reddit
If AMG released 4.7m long 2-door version of the GT-4 -- with a smaller 70kWh battery and rear-wheel drive only to get the weight under 2000kg -- and then they put Ive's tactile, physical, precision-cut glass and metal interior on the inside, we might have a car worth owning.
nala_1454@reddit
No offense mate, but how does it look like a BYD? BYD cars look great for their price range. Way better designs than Ford and GM. The worst looking cars are easily American and Japanese. European and Chinese have much better designs on average. Your comment reeks of arrogance and disgust for Chinese products.
cookingboy@reddit
Dude, I’m known as the in-house Chinese car shill on this sub lmao. I’ve been praising Chinese EVs nonstop on this sub over the years. You really threw your accusation at the wrong person.
I simply don’t think BYDs look that good. You say American cars look bad, I think almost all American EVs look better than the bland BYD designs. And the ones that’s not bland are gaudy.
Huawei, XPeng, Zeekr, etc all look so much better than BYD.
And I think Japanese designs look much better than whatever that’s coming out of the EU OEMs these days.

Truth be told a lot of the design elements are remnants of the Apple iCar project.

RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
I was going to comment that the interior looks like if you had apple design a car. Honestly, the exterior is pretty jarring but I think can make sense for a Ferrari EV.
But the interior, man it feels like if you asked apple to design a car interior. It's just so millennial minimalistic with those curved off square everything.
Feels like transforming the home screen of your iphone to a car interior. There's just absolutely nothing there that says "Ferrari" to me.
Busy_Foundation_5104@reddit
40k is way too much more like 25-30k at best, i'd still rather drive a Toyota corolla than this btw
sequelseize@reddit
yeah... it doesn't look like a Ferrari at all.
The taillights remind me of the Mercedes AMG GT (in a bad way). Front looks like its missing something.
Oh and the interior looks cheaper... every other car brand has gone downmarket with their interiors, i guess that affects even Ferraris lol
budgefrankly@reddit
I don't get criticism of the interior, I much prefer the physical buttons and aluminium and glass to the plastic screen-fest in all other Ferrari interiors.
strongmanass@reddit
Other way around. The AMG GT tail lights are derivative of Ferrari. In reality they separately pulled from their back catalogs, but Ferrari is associated with circular tail lights, so the AMG looks like a copy.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Nah, the tail lights are giving 550 or 355. It’s probably the most identifiable Ferrari design cue on the entire car. Everything else is bonkers.
Sydney2London@reddit
Agreed, the tail lights are full f40 generation Ferrari. The rest of the exterior is hideous imho. The interior is beautiful tho, but I wish the had integrated that mid console screen.
MICHAELSD01@reddit
This would be phenomenal if it was Ferrari’s $50k-$100k market offering.
A-VR-Enthusiast@reddit
Ngl, it looks like it would be really interesting... if it weren't an suv. Like seriously, it has an almost race car low front with the top of the fascia being there for extra downforce and regulation, and you stick that design on something thats the size of a large hatchback when it should be on something that is shaped like an actual Ferrari. The mad thing about EVs is that they a near limitless in terms of what you can do with packaging/layout for a vehicle. You can stick the motors and batteries damn near anywhere if your engineers are talented enough and you have ferrari budgets.

Sharp_Project_2585@reddit
Might be the worst car Ferrari has ever made.

This looks more Guantanamo Bay than Hamptons and more torture chamber than luxury resort.
szaeawar@reddit
So thats one ugly car.
time_to_reset@reddit
Can't wait to see one on the road.
Low_Term5508@reddit
Jony Ive is the most overrated designer on the planet. Why did Ferrari do this? Someone else said—“I don’t hate it as a car, but I hate it as a Ferrari.” I agree. Ferrari shit their pants on this one-shoulda kept it designed on their own.

This car is a humiliation ritual for Ferrari’s best customers. Lowkey disrespectful to make people may over $500k not including options.

Who in their right mind would even spend half of 650K for this pile of trash ? Have Ferrari become so out of touch that they think THIS is what their clientele wants ? No one is ever going to buy this
clownpirate@reddit

Watch these be 90K used next year.
argent_pixel@reddit
It doesn't look bad it just doesn't look like anything worth six figures let alone a prancing horse badge. That interior is hideous as expected. Jonny I've is an overrated hack and it speaks volumes about Ferrari that they chose to do business with him.
YOLOstyleeee@reddit
Out of love <3 for Ferrari, not hate: some prancing horses should stay in the stable. Search “Remove new Ferrari petition” and sign if you agree.

rpc8169@reddit
Not surprised at all the hate here. But would we rather have a normal looking Ferrari EV coupe with fake engine noises and fake shifting?
I’m glad they tried something new. EV is a good place for them try something controversial.
Also the ideas of combining screens and buttons the way they did inside is something we should want for new cars. The way they work together, and the tactility of everything.

I got the urge to laugh out loud actually. I didn't, cause I am also disgusted.
Whuuu@reddit
I don’t hate the design. It’d be strong as a Model 3 competitor. But for Ferrari to go with something that is so mass market looking, something that looks like it’s from Toyota or Hyundai, is just a complete dismissal of what attracts people to the brand.

Who would want this over a 296 Speciale?
mellofello808@reddit
Holy shit. My expectations were low, but this is so much worse than I thought.
Zero heritage in the design. It almost looks like you asked Chat GPT to reimagine the long dead brand Geo's design language for the modern era.
I have actually been a fan of the newer Ferrari designs, but this is dog shit.

But for the money you get a vehicle 60.6METERS tall.

lazybeef@reddit
