I must be the only person that liked the concept car. Fkn thing actually looked like the cars we were promised 2026 would have when I was a kid 🤷♂️
_Nick_2711_@reddit
The car had some nice angles, and some less nice ones but still looks a hell of a lot better than most modern cars.
I think people struggle to remove the actual design of the concept cars from the absolute fart of a rebrand that accompanied them.
therobshow@reddit
I like it too. There's got to be like... at least one or two more of us somewhere
assblast420@reddit
I've come to realize that most people fall into a cycle of immediately disliking something new, then slowly growing to either accept or like it over time.
My controversial example is the big-nose M3. Hated it when it was launched, and now I think it looks cool.
SwarmOfRatz@reddit
Me too. Its about time we got the cyberpunk cars we were promised.
Boundish91@reddit
I like it as well. I'm looking forward to the reveal as well. Don't know much, but I know it'll be a four door.
spooki_boogey@reddit
The issue I have with it is they have some beautiful proportions on the car but do absolutely nothing with them. The lighting and the grills do absolutely nothing and it seems like such a wasted opportunity to have cool menacing take on Jaguars design language.
strongmanass@reddit
I love it to the point of being a joke on this sub. Their approach to Type 00 (and hopefully 01 too) is cohesive in a way I haven't seen from any other car. It's a more architectural approach than is typical for auto, which is the kind of thing that enthusiasts tend to hate because it's openly form over function. I'm even willing to break my "no 4 door" rule for it.
The interior is still a question mark though. That needs to be good, and brass accents alone won't cut it. It needs to be more considered than the basic screen fest in mainstream cars.
Wolfo93@reddit
I don't have a problem with architectural approach (i really like neue klasse). Jaguar concept simply looks unfinished. Like tesla interior. It;s not minimalism nor modernism it's lack of design
JB_UK@reddit
I think it’s supposed to be a fashion accessory type of marketing, if I was them I’d try branded interiors, there isn’t a trim as such, you choose the Cartier, Barbour or Patek Philippe interior.
Obese-Reddit-Mod@reddit
you just gave a great idea for free.
Capri280@reddit
That wouldn't be a bad approach, Lincoln did it to great success in the 70s.
Car-face@reddit
100%, it needs tactility of a type that justifies the price tag.
Good_Air_7192@reddit
It's not for me but I don't hate it, I hated the way they wanted to throw out their legacy, that was a boneheaded marketing move.
killshelter@reddit
It’s a shooting brake grand tourer concept, it looks cool as heck. I’m not super interested in EV’s and I love the F-Type R and F-Pace SVR, so much so that I’m almost certainly getting an F Type R when I’m done with my current vehicle.
But yeah it’s just doom and gloom between this subs comments and auto journalism.
Avariice@reddit
Be sure to test drive one, imo the x5m is more fun to drive than any f type and a modified exhaust on the bimmer is just as nasty as the ftype.
killshelter@reddit
Interesting to hear that. I love the X5M so far but you definitely feel its weight when you’re not going in a straight line. I won’t be getting an exhaust anytime soon until my dealer warranty expires but damn do I want one. I love having a fast as shit 4 door with trunk space. There was a ton of stuff I had to use BimmerCode for to make the thing perfect but yeah I love the thing.
Main thing I want when I switch is that I won’t really need a 4 door and I’ve always wanted a tiny little V8 coupe. Either a manual C7 grand sport or the f type.
What are your thoughts from owning an Svr?
Avariice@reddit
I wasn't a fan of the ftype when it came to driving dynamics. I wouldn't be surprised if the car was terribly unbalanced since they changed it to awd only and rereleased a rwd version with 100 less hp.
If you're going to keep the x5m, a c6 z06 would be a great addition.
I like the way the car looks and sounds. I rip it in 3rd/4th gear on the highway/freeway on my daily commute and it's the only reason I still have it. I got bored of the m2c as a daily as there was no way to fully utilize the car on my daily commute and started looking for other ways to have fun.
killshelter@reddit
Damn that’s a shame because an M2CS was also in the cards. I also don’t care for newer BMW’s from they moved on from physical climate control buttons.
But yeah I’ve never actually driven an F Type so I’m sure there’s a lot of ideas I have of it that might not be accurate. C7 Z06 prices are kinda wild so I’ve honestly been considering a C6 Z06 but it’s getting really hard to find unmolested ones. I’ve also heavily been considering a C4 ZR1 but I’d need to have an extended hands on with one.
OldSchoolIsh@reddit
I don't think people realise how much smaller it is in reality. In photos it looks like the size of car from League Of Extraordinary Gentleman, but in the flesh it isn't really that big.
I don't like much in the way of modern cars, but I like it when I saw it.
Car-face@reddit
I think there's plenty who like it, it's just got the combination of pissing off the retired professors who bought a 2nd hand X-type 10 years ago (and therefore loudly tell everyone how they're Jaguar purists), as well as offending the delicate sensibilities of the anti-woke crowd because Jag's brand relaunch made them tingle and they couldn't figure out why.
We've already seen other brands fall in line behind them style-wise, with both BMW's new 7 series and Audi's Concept C adopting the design trends Jag pioneered with their concept launch - regardless of how it sells, it's absolutely nailed the design trend in the segment where it'll compete.
If it's a good car or not remains to be seen, but if they maintain the proportions it'll have a presence that basically nothing else has in that segment, and on paper it's at least got the basics right with 850V architecture, enough range and decent charge speed.
Way out of my price range, but of all the EVs that have attempted to launch in that luxo-barge coupe segment, Jag's offering is easily the most compelling IMO. You're not going to capture interest by just replacing a V12 with a battery, you really need to create presence some other way - and the Type 01 does that.
BozoTheRelentless@reddit
Jaguar is a heritage brand so their core demographic is boomers. Fronting an all electric lineup with radical new branding that departs from the past is an affront to their sensibilities. If they hadn't gone all electric I think the concepts would have been better received. Aesthetically, the concept looks cool but it's no f-type.
JuggerKnot86@reddit
Reminds me of a early 2000's carshow concept car
GrynaiTaip@reddit
Same, it looks futuristic. I don't care if boomers call this colour "millennial gay".
Secksualinnuendo@reddit
It reminds me of the batmobile from Batman the animated series.
HillarysFloppyChode@reddit
It’s polarizing but in a good way.
Unlike the Tesla ~~Dumpster~~ Cybertruck, which is polarizing in a bad way.
squidgytree@reddit
I think it looked amazing too but I will never be able to afford it so it might still be only you buying it
Killahdanks1@reddit
Well, it does look like overly bulky matchbox cars…..
DoGooderMcDoogles@reddit
I am prepared to be whelmed thoroughly.
Good_Air_7192@reddit
I don't know if it's them feeling some sympathy for the shit show, but I've seen some first impressions from car journalists that suggest it's actually a pretty good car, I'll believe it when I see it though.
kaelis7@reddit
Car journalists are invited for week-longs « reviews » in 5-star hotels, with privatized roads and tracks just to have fun while getting wined and dined throughout the whole thing.
In general they’re not too critical about new cars.
Good_Air_7192@reddit
Quite a few of the journos are very clear about this, it doesn't mean they all change their opinion. Based on how they are treated.
Santa_Hates_You@reddit
They’ll sell dozens!
ferdiazgonzalez@reddit
Two of them to be precise.
GrynaiTaip@reddit
It's not a Corolla, dozens is probably below their annual target because it will cost millions.
Diogenes256@reddit
So much pent up demand in both of these people.
rasmusdf@reddit
Such an ugly soulles car. Why destroy the Jaguar brand for that.
Conan3121@reddit
No jiggles in the wedding vegetables. (Acknowledgment: J. Clarkson)
Lower_Kick268@reddit
I'm shocked and amused this is actually being produced
Dunaii4@reddit
It's a Jag, it'll get wonderful reviews, the ride and handling will be praised before they sell a couple dozen and repackage the exact same powertrain in a Range Rover to sell millions. So sad but people are people.
Wolfo93@reddit
They are hyping it for like 30 month now it will be such a flop
kstetter@reddit (OP)
I hope not, I love sedans
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit
I saw a Jaguar V8 rip past while on a walk the other day, and I can't believe they are still going all out on EV's.
Santa_Hates_You@reddit
There was a short time a bit over a decade ago when their whole lineup was V8’s.
ArcticBP@reddit
And how successful were they then?
Dunaii4@reddit
The V8s sold quite well...at least the ones bolted to Range Rover chassies.
The V8 models however, less so.
UmaThurmish@reddit
people didnt buy them
therobshow@reddit
The sound on those older f types is fucking incredible. I knew things were gonna go downhill when they tamed it and made it quieter
lolcutler@reddit
I had a face lifted type v8 you can pull the fuse to the exhaust and it will be louder but not quite as loud as the first generation
deltaetaxciv@reddit
Great engine, but sadly not enough people bought them
Multifaceted-Simp@reddit
Nothing excites me less than horsepower in an EV
MogosTheFirst@reddit
I am going to be honest, I am so tired of hating it, that I find it interesting enough
kqlx@reddit
who is this car for? It looks like jeffrey star meets will.i.am
Rough_Cancel7265@reddit
Looking forward to seeing it. You can't really complain about brand direction when the F Type, XE, XF, XJ and F Pace all had supercharged 6 or 8 cylinder configurations offered and they still failed.
CreditDowntown7666@reddit
im being honest, i liked the car itself but not the rebranding and that new logo and shit
Oldnbold22@reddit
Jaguar reminds me of that Simpsons episode where they let Homer takeover car development.
FatMonkeyMilk@reddit
There was a YouTuber who was let in the development car for a drive. It looked tiny inside
turb0_encapsulator@reddit
this could be a great car, and it probably still won't be successful. a 6 figure performance EV coupe from a startup is like checking all the boxes on what doesn't sell in today's market. Lucid makes an excellent sedan at half the price and can't sell them.
Splicelice@reddit
Actually bad example. The lucid is widely panned for poor tech, a key fob that doesn’t work, constant issues, and many complain the interior is not all it’s cracked up be. Oversold underdelivered.
turb0_encapsulator@reddit
Do you think Jaguar won't have software issues? There hasn't been a western EV startup that hasn't had these kind of issues in the first few years.
strongmanass@reddit
Why do you keep calling them a startup? They may be relaunching the brand in market position and propulsion, but they're still part of JLR and have the same staff and factory they've had for decades. It's not like Tesla and Lucid.
Capri280@reddit
The Jag won't be a coupe, it's going to be a 4 door
south-of-the-river@reddit
Say what you will about the design, I’m all here for the future where 1000hp street cars are considered normal
WretchedMisteak@reddit
I'm looking forward to the release. Whilst I am not the target market, I am keen to see it (hopefully) succeed. From all accounts of people who have ridden in it or driven it, it is a very good GT car. Compliant, supple but also rapid, as what Jags were in the past.
zipzoomramblafloon@reddit
Will it cease to function the next time Jaguar gets hacked?
kstetter@reddit (OP)
That was just the factory
UmaThurmish@reddit
it looks like its gonna weigh 3 tons
strongmanass@reddit
2.7 tons (5950 pounds). Very heavy and won't be nimble, but 5.2 meters (205 inches) long, 120 kWh battery, and 400 mile range will do that. Personally, for that kind of car I'd rather have the long range than save weight so I'm not too bothered.
UmaThurmish@reddit
it looks like the animated series batmobile. cool looking
would be cooler with a big V12 and exhaust ports coming out of the hood
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
at the very best this thing is going to be like a british cybertruck, hella unreliable and ugly, driven by single guys only who are also dickheads, not really good at anything really
strongmanass@reddit
Not an earth-shattering name, but it's consistent with both their history of naming cars (Type D, E, F) and with the brand reset (the 00s in Type 00 were for zero tailpipe emissions and car zero). So now Type 01 represents heritage (Type), zero tailpipe emissions, and the first production car.
Lots of marketing speak, but there it is. But they still have four months to reveal. I'm not sure they can trot out those zebra print prototypes for much longer without people getting fed up and wanting to see the real thing.
argent_pixel@reddit
That explanation is going to drop panties left and right.
argent_pixel@reddit
Wow, Typo 01. ~~The Polestar~~ Jaguar Type 02, 03, 04, and 05 will sound so cool and have a very straightforward pecking order when they arrive, I'm sure.
Feel free to save this post. Jaguar will announce a reversion to ICE in some level by the end of this year.
Slasher1738@reddit
I'll only be overwhelmed by it's price tag
Life_Menu_4094@reddit
Behold the Typo One!
ThatOneBitch02@reddit
Great, another overpriced 1000hp ev, how exciting. Feels like every other day I hear about another one of these that I'll never hear about again
Secksualinnuendo@reddit
Taking over a year off from selling cars is a bold strategy for a car company. I hope the rebrand works. It might work for Europe but the US market is still pretty meh on EVs. Even with the current gas situation.
BassWingerC-137@reddit
I’m excited for its potential. I shun the nay sayers.
kstetter@reddit (OP)
Shun the nonbeliever! Shun!
BassWingerC-137@reddit
I thought I’d seen you on the Mountain.
Windows-XP-Home-NEW@reddit
I thought Jaguar was being killed off lol
Angry_beaver_1867@reddit
I wonder how this thing will compare to the Aston Martin rapide.
strongmanass@reddit
The Rapide is spot on. That's what Matt Prior at Autocar compared it to:
If you can picture it, it'll be the height of the Taycan and the length of the EQS sedan.
