Which of your kids' TV shows did you only tolerate out of love for your kids?

All, and I really do mean all of them, YouTube channels that follow bratty American children around doing stuff. Trinity and Madison? Lily and Evelyn? I think they were the ones she was most obsessed with. God I hated their parents for doing this to me. This was actually my niece watching which meant that I couldn’t even stop her watching it.

Is it inappropriate to walk to the shop in a bikini top?

Posted by KeyYam3564@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1414 comments

Angelf1shing@reddit

If it’s a shop on the beach front, it’s a bikini top and it’s fine. If you have to cross the road more than once to get to the beach, it’s underwear.

If a girl told you she had a pickled onion for her dinner, what conclusions would you come to?

Posted by BeEccentric@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 133 comments

Angelf1shing@reddit

As part of her dinner? I’d draw absolutely no conclusions at all, other than she likes pickled onions. As her whole dinner? She has a very severe eating disorder.

Do British people not feel the cold?

I used to work with an Australian who used to smugly say “it’s not hot” every time I complained that 31° weather was too hot. She regretted it when she realised that for 47 weeks of the year I was going to tell her that it wasn’t cold.

As a Britsh person what kind of time frame are you thinking when you use the phrase 'the other day'?

Is it a British thing specifically to prefer being left alone in shops? I’m a Brit in Colombia (5yrs) and I cannot get used to how it is here, it actually affects how and where I shop.

I lived in Canada for a while and shopping drove me crazy because they wouldn’t leave me alone and I HATED it. I was so glad to get home and not have assistants in my face anymore!

These two and it’s too orangey for crows. My husband, who grew up in Australia and didn’t see any of these things, now realises that about 30% of the things I say to him originated in an advert or tv show from the 80s.

You have a 7am - 4pm work day with 1hr unpaid lunch break, what time would you leave if you booked a half day?

Posted by feckingloser@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 181 comments

Angelf1shing@reddit

I guess it could be argued that 4.5 hours is half a day, but as lunch is unpaid, it’s difficult to argue that op must stay on site for it. Moreover, apparently the boss is saying they had to stay until 12, which isn’t a half day, whichever way you cut it.

It’s contextual. Active/passive, specific/habitual. ‘I got up because I heard a noise in the night’ ‘I don’t sleep very well at night when I’ve had an afternoon nap’

They don’t perfectly fit, it’s a meme. They are a millimetre or so too big so they just cover the top in the same way a coaster or anything would. You can’t use them as a lid, they get knocked off too easily. They’re a cover, not a lid. And to answer your question, like most people I don’t use them, I just keep them.

Yeah I also thought empty sockets, which I thought was a nice thing to do (especially if you live in a country that doesn’t have a safety plug system so little kids can shove things straight into live power points), but switching off the freezer is bizarre.
