My friend (also a brit) says you guys dont put fruit jams, honey, or cream on your crumpets, is that true?

I dont.just lots of butter for me and the crumpets got to be well done.
oldie349@reddit
Nope. That would be a bit odd. Butter, with cheese if you feel the spirit move you, that’s it.
Novel_Individual_143@reddit
Sometimes I add marmite
pm_me_your_amphibian@reddit
Honey is particularly excellent on crumpets. Jam too. Peanut butter is tasty but is a special kind of cloying when in combo with a crumpet.
draaj@reddit
Ive never had crumpets with anything but butter or peanut butter. Makes me feel a bit sick to imagine jam or honey on it
pm_me_your_amphibian@reddit
You should give it a try (if you like honey and jam that is!)
Ok_Impact9745@reddit
Why did I read this like Bob Mortimer singing 😂
pm_me_your_amphibian@reddit
Ok now I’m doing it
Legit_Vampire@reddit
You can't beat peanut butter on crumpets
MsMinxington@reddit
Peanut Butter AND Jam however… tips the balance back
PinkMossOrchid@reddit
Yes agreed, peanut butter has no business being on crumpets. I like crumpets with butter and raspberry jam, or just butter.
Euphoric_Bar1363@reddit
Honey is the best! Put the jam under the peanut butter and it alleviates the cloying. All of the above need butter first.
AnxiousAppointment70@reddit
People put all sorts of stuff on crumpets, whatever they like but the vast majority will absolutely drown them in butter.
Kirsten_Ghoti@reddit
You have jam or honey, or I like pate or ham, obviously not at the same time. The main thing is, toast it, put butter on, and then add the topping if you want. Like everyone else said, crumpets are mostly for buttering. I wouldn't put cream on a crumpet; I also know some people who make crumpet pizzas, top the crumpet with tomato puree, cheese and ham if you fancy, and toast the lot. Cream (clotted cream only) is for scones. I use the KFC biscuit recipe for my scones, which works perfectly; it's somewhere on reddit. Obviously clotted cream is for plain or fruit scones, not for cheese scones.

To me, the absolute pinnacle of the crumpet art is this:
Confident-Audience-2@reddit
I put lingonberry jam on mine. Stock up on rare Ikea trips 😆
Jolly-Bandicoot7162@reddit
Butter only for me. Why would you spoil that marvellousness with additional stuff?
Bimvam@reddit
Butrer and marmite. Nowt else
Traditional_Bee2164@reddit
Depends on the person but the best crumpets have butter marmite and extra mature cheddar on them
Every-Somewhere-6971@reddit
I think we need to define what a 'Crumpet' is, as I'm sure there will be some disagreement within the UK, without any overseas confusion. You only have to look at the whole Cob, roll, Bap issue!
ben_jamin_h@reddit
Different people put different things on their crumpets. There are 70 million people here, we don't all follow whatever arbitrary rules your mate makes up.
Feeling-Bluebird8413@reddit
Your friend is mistaken.
Active_Definition_57@reddit
Cream on something hot seems wrong.
Wubbleyou_@reddit
Apple pie and cream is not wrong.
Active_Definition_57@reddit
Yes. As long as it's pouring cream. Whipped cream should be reserved for cold apple pie.
Wubbleyou_@reddit
Does whipped cream go with anything?
Feeling-Bluebird8413@reddit
Unless it’s in a sauce
Skulldo@reddit
I don't think their friend is, at least it is very uncommon. I have never heard of or considered putting anything other than butter on a crumpet.

JumpinJackCilitBang@reddit
Anything you can put on toast you can put on a crumpet (up to a point).
shaolinoli@reddit
Marmite on a buttered crumpet slaps
liltrex94@reddit
Fucking jam? On a crumpet? Butter and marmite is the only option.
neutraltone@reddit
Have you tried putting grated cheddar on top of the marmite and giving them 1/2 minutes under grill to melt the cheese? A bit of a faff but great for the occasional indulgence!
Drunkgummybear1@reddit
The jam acts very much like butter in seeping into the pores. It is fucking delightful. Obviously there is also butter involved.
Green_Sprout@reddit
Definitely not Sardine and Tomato spread, love the stuff but thinking about it on a crumpet makes me feel... treasonous?
BuzzAllWin@reddit

Level-Location1679@reddit
Mostly true but for obscure historical reasons only the Queen is allowed to eat crumpets, I'm not 100% if that was passed on to the current King but I'd assume so. Oh and a few monasteries of monks that have been around long enough that they were able to carve an exception into the obscure crumpet ban. Anyone else they put you in jam.
GJThunderqunt@reddit
Nope, Queen only. Camilla taunts Charles by chaining him to the bed, dressing in leather, taking out her cat o nine tails and proceeding to call him a pathetic little runt while eating crumpets right in front of him with butter dripping off her chin.

Butter or butter and thinly sliced cheddar for me. No I don't do jam/ marmite/ marmalade or any of that stuff and certainly not cream
SubtleVegan@reddit
I usually do butter, honey, pb, or marmite, possibly cheese. Don't know anyone that puts cream on a crumpet, but jam can be.
ohsaycanyourock@reddit
I've never had a sweet crumpet in my life - only insane amounts of butter, with a bit of cheese on very rarely. I'd try a sweet version but the thought is really weird to me!
MorningSquare5882@reddit
Same here. I'm genuinely surprised at the number of people saying they put jam or honey on crumpets - I've always thought of them as a savoury thing. If I want something with sweet on top, I'd personally go for a muffin.
Frankifile@reddit
I usually have a crumpet with my butter

Butter AND honey for me. Maybe some marmite too. Damnit now I want crumpets.

Marmite all the way for me 😊 Marmite plus grated grilled cheese is good too.

Wait have you tried Bovril though. That’s even better. More beefy and less tangy.
Outside-Parfait-8935@reddit
Got to be honey. The honey/butter combo melting through the crumpet is something else
SantaFe91@reddit
These are my two go-tos for crumpets on top of plenty of (salted) butter. Usually one marmite followed by one honey.

Fianna9@reddit
I miss a proper British crumpet. The ones I can find in Canada are so flat. Not worth it for my butter intake
DreadLifter@reddit
What are the Canadian ones like? What you call a British crumpet I'd call and English crumpet/muffin, here in Scotland crumpets are a different thing (more like a wider, flatter big pancake).
Fianna9@reddit
We have English muffins as well as crumpets. The crumpet looks just the same as a British one, but thinner. Probably a denser taste.
Gnarly_314@reddit
The shallow crumpets are called pikelets where I am. Same based but no ring is used to contain the batter in a neat circle.
Fianna9@reddit
They look the same as a crumpet, but thinner in a neat little circle. Probably just using a cheap recipe or products for stupid Canadians that don’t know better
TheeHappyDude@reddit
Sounds more like a pikelet
Fianna9@reddit
They call them crumpets on the package. And they look like crumpets with the air holes. But too thin and dense and blah
Ok_Industry_2395@reddit
That's ruthless.
I feel for you, fellow British crumpet lover.
Fianna9@reddit
Visited my British cousins last year. Finished off their crumpets. Then went home to stare sadly at the pathetic offerings in a the grocery store

Exactly, they are a perfectly designed edible sponge. I like mine with golden syrup too, but marmot is also good. Butter is the absolute staple though.
MattheqAC@reddit
I only like a small number of marmots on mine
TheSBW@reddit
perfect answer
Time-Reindeer-7525@reddit
As my dad often asks, would you like some crumpets with your butter?
OkChannel5936@reddit
If the butter doesn’t soak through and leave a residue on the plate afterwards, you haven’t used enough butter.
Jesussavedmyass@reddit
A crumpet needs to piss itself with butter to be eaten
Mental_Body_5496@reddit
Mine used to ask would you like Christmas pudding with your brandy butter ❤️
loveswimmingpools@reddit
Just a little please. Don't swamp the taste of the butter.
The-Scottish-Rock@reddit

Marmite, honey, jam, marmalade, butter. Will happily have any of them on a crumpet.
Not cream though- crumpets are supposed to be eaten hot or warm so cream just melts.
WoodenEggplant4624@reddit
We put jam, honey, marmite, cheese on crumpets.
Scones are the ones that get cream along with jam. But you can put honey on a scone, or marmite if you like it and they are good with cheese.
fearghaz@reddit
Ive never heard of cream but the rest is normal
anonnyscouse@reddit
Butter only most of the time. Cheese if I'm hungry, chocolate spread if my blood sugar is low.
elrombo@reddit
Cheese is the best, but Nutella is great, as is peanut butter.
TooMuchBrightness@reddit
I’ve been eating honey & marmite on crumpets since I was 4 years old. Some people say it’s an abomination and question my mental health over this 😂🤪
Efficient_Hyena_7476@reddit
Strawberry or raspberry jam is great on crumpets
blondererer@reddit
I like butter on it, but butter and jam would be ok. I like butter and jam on English muffins or toasted teacakes
SomeoneSlightlyGay@reddit
I put jam and honey on mine, but they’re most typically for butter
Ellajt@reddit
I usually have butter and jam
Electronic-Bus-5350@reddit
I put that stuff on crumpets, I also use hummus. You can top it with anything
Roborabbit37@reddit
Butter & Jam or Butter & Honey are the two things I put on them most.
phishydawg@reddit
I don’t do butter so it’s a well toasted, plain one for me. Occasional jam or peanut butter or even cheddar cheese melted. Nom nom!!
recovering-junkie@reddit
A tonne of butter and slightly less golden syrup is the only way to enjoy a crumpet.
StockholmGirl29@reddit
Probably not cream but everything else is great! They can be savoury or sweet. I like plenty of butter and Marmite but my husband likes butter and honey in his.
Metalogic_95@reddit
Butter and marmite is my crumpet go-to combo.
Judy__McJudgerson@reddit
If you've never put Nutella on your crumpets, you've not lived.
RaspberryUnusual438@reddit
Butter and cheese is my limit, but mainly just butter.
Busy-Doughnut6180@reddit
I like putting butter then jam. So good.
TrustVisual1394@reddit
I had raspberry jam on crumpets for breakfast this morning. Its delicious! Your friend is weird, there are no crumpet rules.
FutureThinkingMan@reddit
I only put butter or peanut butter on them, but people put all soorts on. I've seen Marmite, Jam, Scrambled egg, pilchards and much more.
GDsusuernameinnit@reddit
Butter, mixed with marmite in a 2:1 ratio, applied to freshly toasted crumpet. No further explanation necessary.
DarkDragoness1965@reddit
I like butter and jam of whichever type is open. I also like them with butter and a slice of cheese. I've not tried peanut butter but thinking about it, I need to buy crumpets and try that tomorrow!
carolomnipresence@reddit
It is for your friend.
Expensive_Canary5911@reddit
Not cream or honey, but I'll happily have a bit of jam on my crumpet... Come to think on it, I've also had butter+golden syrup.
Sammiieet@reddit
I don't have crumpets often but when I do, I put blueberry jam on them and they're delicious! Now I've got a craving lol.

Butter and jam. Sometimes butter and marmalade but not honey it's too messy.
Double-elephant@reddit
Not cream. Oh no.
PutridCauliflower305@reddit
Butter, baked beans and melted cheese on the top.
Ok_Depth_7817@reddit
Yep butter applied like it’s cheddar. A friend of mine swears the correct side to butter is the bottom because it allows the crumpet to hold more butter. He’s clearly an idiot and I shan’t be trying this
Single-Position-4194@reddit
Cream, no; it's usually butter. Jam is usual; I've not seen them with honey but I suppose you could.
pledgedotmeat3mndays@reddit
You have two, one with butter (lots) and another one with butter and jam for desert.
TheNoobilator@reddit
As a Brit, I have never known anyone to put cream on a crumpet - the other options are definitely eaten though. Hell, I ate a crumpet with honey last night, & one with jam last week!
whitefire9999@reddit

Due-Presentation4344@reddit
The only addition I’ve ever considered is a little cheese.
Not sure why you’d choose jam on a crumpet instead of butter.
illarionds@reddit
Not instead, obviously both.
What are you, American? Butter is always implied.
neutraltone@reddit
Marmite or bovril for me but I’m sympathetic that this is a contentious statement.

But I'll give it a go in the name of science
Thebewildered_1@reddit
Who on Gods green earth would do such a thing! No, it’s butter, and only butter.
illarionds@reddit
That is false. Plenty of people have jam or honey on crumpets (though perhaps not cream).
Plenty of people have just butter.
And some people even have savoury options - ham, cheese, marmite etc.
Honestly, it's basically a bread. The options are as wide as they are with a sandwich, a bagel, a pita etc.
But butter, then butter+jam, would be the most popular choices.
Cul13n@reddit
Butter is definitely the way, and as many others have mentioned, it does indeed need to be pissing butter.
A little sacrilegious but I recently tried cadburys chocolate spread, it was absolutely tremendous
Specific-Sundae2530@reddit
Are you sure you know what a crumpet is? I've seen an astonishingly common occurrence of people not knowing the difference between an English muffin and a crumpet. The things you listed are more toppings for scones, apart from the honey.

Nothing but butter…ever!!
WillBots@reddit
I put enough butter on that it leaks out the bottom of the crumpet, then, if I'm having my idea 3 crumpet snack, I'll have one just like that, one with a quality strawberry jam and one with Lyle's Golden Syrup (not the squeezy, out of the tin, which is the best syrup).
46Vixen@reddit
Golden syrup is an absolute shout.
Wise-Independence487@reddit

whatswestofwesteros@reddit
Some people do, I personally like butter then a healthy spread of PB on mine but I do eat PB like it's going out of fashion. Nutella on a crumpet is wonderful because it gets melty in the holes

Dollypuggle@reddit

MidasToad@reddit

Look here is my rule of thumb. Who is eating the food in question? If you, then you put what YOU WANT IN YOUR FOOD.
time I had a former friend over my place. She brought her friend (who is a stuck up bully, and is the reason I chucked that friend out my life) over and I was meal prepping my food for the week and her friend started telling me off because I was making congee (chinese porridge which requires 1 cup rice and 6 cup water) and this woman started telling me off because she sees I was making food and started telling me it wsa too much water and noone likes mushy rice. I said I am not making mushy rice and there are alot of asian people who likes it (I'm Irish but a chinese friend introduced me to congee and I've loved it since) and I showed this bully what I was making (eg googled it) and she still insisted I was wrong and then she actually threw away the food I made so I chucked her out of my house, had to get the police involved because she wouldn't leave. She only left because she had started smoking weed in my house which I don't like and told her not to and the police had come to arrest her for the weed. My friend in question had a go at me for calling the police to which she got told I didn't appreciate her bringing her friend into my house to smoke weed and to control me of what I can and cannot do inside my house eg what I eat. Gave her a choice either apologise or leave. She left.

Yes, that is largely true. It’s mostly butter. The best is slightly salted proper butter - beautiful on a crumpet!

Angelf1shing@reddit
I think cheese or marmite is more common but tbh, I only ever eat them with butter.

I sometimes put jam on crumpets after buttering them, and would put honey if I didn't hate the taste, but never cream. Sometimes I put cheese on and shove it back under the grill (broiler for USAliens) to melt it into the holes.
NeitherBag4722@reddit
No, just had crumpets with strawberry jam (and the obligatory packet of butter) for breakfast.

The crumpet is for butter. Some add other comestibles but if you’ve put enough butter on first it will run off!

I think it's personal choice, I enjoy crumpets with jam, marmalade, cheese spread or peanut butter on them. But sometimes I just go for butter I don't put cream or honey on them but nothing wrong with putting what you like on them is there?
Notorious_BMK@reddit
No creams, honey, jam, marmite all valid toppings though. I prefer plain salted butter but my wife and kids will use jam or marmalade
tadpole-bear@reddit
Jammy crumpet, all the time. Honey crumpet, even more so, and quite traditional, feel like they eat this in Narnia and boarding school stories and also in my house during the winter. Cream, you’re thinking of a scone, pronounced scone.
just-visiting-3955@reddit
I’ve eaten approx a million crumpets. I’ve never had jam. Sometimes when butter needs supplementing peanut butter. But mostly just butter.
tadpole-bear@reddit
Would recommend! Enough butter to fully saturate a double-toasted crispy crumpet, top with raspberry jam – best with seeds and a posh, not-too-sweet brand.

If you have some really nice, salty, proper butter then nothing else is needed. Obviously you need to put excess butter on so it drips through and you have to try and mop it up with said crumpets. Crumpets! I like to have two, like a main and dessert, so a savoury one and a sweet one. Always butter, along with a topping of choice like peanut butter, Vegemite, Marmite, Nutella, Lemon Curd, jam or even marmalade. Exception to the butter rule- No butter but with cream cheese, smoked salmon, fresh ground black pepper and a little fresh lemon juice on the salmon. It became a little family treat, or for a celebration day breakfast or brunch.
I have noticed that over the last 5-10 years that crumpet makers seem to think we want the thickest possible, doughy, hefty unit. Unfortunately I can't eat more than one of these in a sitting, the horror- how am I meant to have my one each of savoury and sweet?Recently I discovered crumpet thins and they are much more reminiscent of the type of crumpets I remember from childhood, probably around the same nutrition value 😅

I'm 57 and never had jam or honey on a crumpet. I imagine it would be ok. But I don't want to waste my crumpets on jam when there's marmite.
daddy-dj@reddit
Couple of years younger than you but never had anything other than butter either. I'm thinking maybe Nutella might work too.
sock_cooker@reddit
Yeh, the butter isn't a topping though, it's a necessary component of a toasted crumpet. Anything additional to that is a topping.
_eldubs_@reddit
You're also mad if you think that butter isn't a topping on a crumpet.
LionLucy@reddit
I agree that butter is a given
Flaky-Hovercraft8768@reddit
I’ve never seen anybody have crumpets with jam. It definitely isn’t the most common way to eat crumpets.
Confetti_Sparkle@reddit
I think it would be weird.
Spiritual_Tie3348@reddit
I usually have just butter, but I'll had jam too when I feel like or sometimes cheese. Never cream though!
Deep_Banana_6521@reddit
i just do butter
Only_Amphibian3107@reddit
All of the above!!
Agitated_Ad_361@reddit
Butter, cheese and marmite
IAmLaureline@reddit
It's butter, or sometimes butter and marmite.
Jam would be unthinkable.
Sxn747Strangers@reddit
Rubbish, jam or honey on my crumpets all the time, cream would be a matter of personal taste but not mine.
townshatfire@reddit
I'll assume everyone saying no to putting a thing other than butter on a crumpet is talking about the ridiculous English ones.
Scottish Crumpets are far superior and lend themselves perfectly to butter and jam.
Flaky-Hovercraft8768@reddit
Scottish crumpets are more like pancakes so would work perfectly with jam, honey etc.
HerbTP@reddit
I like butter and marmalade
notanotherusernameD8@reddit
Just butter -- preferably salted -- and lots of it. If you want jam, honey, or whatever, you should probably have toast instead.
Maskedmarxist@reddit
I’ll put whatever the hell I like (read have in the pantry at the time) but it will likely be a bit of butter and some marmite on the first one. Then some jam on the second.
TheCaffeineMonster@reddit
Only after the 9pm watershed do we behave in such a depraved manner.
buzzfrightyears@reddit
Marmite all the way
Extra-Sound-1714@reddit
People put what they like on them. Even marmite. The most common is probably only butter.
ema_l_b@reddit
For the 3 options you mentioned, the main delivery systems are:
Butter - hot crumpets
Jam and cream - cold scones (clotted cream, not regular)
Jam/honey/butter - any temp toast
gibberishnope@reddit
No, anything can go on a crumpet, but butter and a really good jam or marmalade ( no butter is crime)
MatniMinis@reddit
Butter, peanut butter, a crack of sea salt and some chilli crisp.
Also works on bagels and savoury scones.
RealHoney4486@reddit
Butter mainly, or jam If I'm after something sweet or cheese if savoury.
So technically, I could have crumpets for every meal, and each course!
Flaky-Hovercraft8768@reddit
Butter and/or cheese spread. I’ve never personally seen anyone eat them with jam etc
helloperoxide@reddit
Marmite is the best on it!
EldritchSanta@reddit
You can, but the best way I can do them is to dip them in a mixture of egg and grated cheese and then fry them.
Maleficent-Heart2497@reddit
Occasionally cheese but mostly no. Just butter usually
Hot-Box1054@reddit
It’s usually butter
Fred776@reddit
I like butter and golden syrup on a crumpet. Jam or honey would work. Cream would be weird though.
anxiousthroway85@reddit
*splutter* I have only ever put honey on my crumpets!
Far-Dimension3508@reddit
They were obviously deprived of those options from their life. Crumpets are blank canvas you can put anything
Tea_Ve@reddit
Butter is yum, but equally so is honey or marmite or chocolate spread - especially M&S blonde spread.
Never had cream though that I’ll be honest sounds odd, and I’m from clotted cream land
rusticusmus@reddit
I usually just have butter, but I got some amazing red grapefruit marmalade at a Christmas market which was wonderful on crumpets (in addition to the butter, of course).
LemonTrifle@reddit
Butter & maybe some cheese.
Realistic-Peak9389@reddit
Butter. Salted.
neilm1000@reddit
Personally, I don't, I just like butter.
No one puts cream on them surely!
liltrex94@reddit
Butter and marmite.
Away_Egg_2683@reddit
The ways I have a crumpet. Always toasted. Depending on my mood or what us in my cupboard i will have,
Just butter Butter and jam Butter and cheddar cheese, or Nutella
Enjoy 😉
lady_is_a_one@reddit
Mostly, they need to be toasted/grilled till crispy and then lots of good quality butter (not margarine!).
Some people I know then add jam or cheese. But for me, always just butter and that’s the norm I would say.
accordionshoes@reddit
butter is obviously the way forward, but jam is ok, honey at a push, never cream, that's a monstrous idea
Far-Abroad-2040@reddit
Not true
Deuce03@reddit
Butter is mandatory. The only other thing I ever put on a crumpet is marmite, and even that is rare.
One_Access7987@reddit
Butter AND honey! Mmmmmm
Salty_Nothing5466@reddit
I don’t have crumpets often, but when I do I have one with butter, one with butter and marmalade, and one with butter and marmite 😍
Sad-Yoghurt5196@reddit
I mean personally I'm a salted butter and Bovril (or marmite) boy. But I'm not opposed to the idea of butter and jam, or butter and honey. Cream though would be a no for me, that is genuinely a weird one.
Bitbury@reddit
Butter, or whatever equivalent. Maybe some cheese and marmite/vegemite. I can just about understand jam or honey, but the idea of cream on a crumpet is egregious.
Interesting_Drive647@reddit
Buttered crumpets dipped in Heinz tomato soup is a good combination
Oldsoldierbear@reddit
Scottish crumpets are different from other British crumpets - they are more like pancakes. Very delicious though, and definitely with butter and jam
King_Olaf_thebastard@reddit
Jam, honey, cheese spread and peanut butter all good. But cream, that's just wrong.
Interesting_Drive647@reddit
Cheese on a toasted crumpet, then under the grill or in the air fryer for a few minutes for it to melt into all the holes.
Butter is a yes. Jam, occasionally. Cream, absolutely not.
Confetti_Sparkle@reddit
Cream??? Butter, and either marmite or cheese. Jam and honey is just about acceptable, but CREAM? It's not a bloody scone, dear!
Aurorafaery@reddit
Put the crumpet through the toaster twice (I do mine at top level -level 5- then level 2) so it’s extra crispy. Then leave it to cool a little. Then add a solid wedge of butter so it softens and begins to seep into the spongy crumpet, but is also solid enough to see your teeth marks in the butter. Perfection. Then, use the last slither of your crumpet to soak up the liquid butter on the plate.
Interesting-Day-7614@reddit
Never heard of them.
Only put butter on pikelets though.
Grizzl0ck@reddit
Butter, black pepper and sharp cheddar. Sometimes Marmite
Consistent-Layer-265@reddit
You can put whatever you want on it
Expensive-Milk1696@reddit
Reading through these comments I realise i need to up my crumpet game 😳😂
tmbyfc@reddit
Butter and marmite. If you've got three, the third one can have jam
Slight_Art_8828@reddit
The vast majority of people just have butter.
Specialeyes9000@reddit
I put jam on mine occasionally but usually just butter. I have never heard of anyone putting honey or cream on a crumpet.
martian__@reddit
Your friend is wrong, but it’s usually butter and marmite for me.
Butter and honey if in the mood for something sweet.
LionLucy@reddit
Wild that some people have never had jam on a crumpet! Jam or honey as well as obviously loads of butter
Solilaqui78@reddit
Cheese! Or raspberry jam. Native English.
countrycow2112@reddit
Mate, I'll put Nutella and peanut butter on mine.
Itsmeladyt79@reddit
I love a jam on my crumpet. I even like peanut butter and jam on my crumpet but the most important bit is most definitely lots of slightly salted butter.
spicyzsurviving@reddit
Just butter is probably the most popular way to eat them, but people definitely put other “spreads” on a crumpet (jam, marmalade, even chocolate spread, peanut butter, marmite…) I’ve seen several posts about crumpets with baked beans and cheese.
Japhet_Corncrake@reddit
Butter and Mr Naga pickle.
Mltsound1@reddit
Strawberry jam after it’s basically bathed in butter is my, jam.
h3r0inXgirl@reddit
Yeah we do, but i think most use butter. Personally i like strawberry jam on mine and butter.
anemoschaos@reddit
Butter only. That's all that is needed.
velos85@reddit
Butter, marmite, cheese or all three
WonderfulJury8885@reddit
Not cream, but definitely jam for me as an afternoon snack with a cuppa, cheese and marmite for more of a lunch. Both with butter obvs.
Visible-Pomelo7748@reddit
I mean I suppose you could but I don't see any reason to stray from just straight up toasted with butter
splateen74@reddit
I quite regularly put butter and Branston pickle on mine.
MiniRollsYum@reddit
Butter and Marmite
Buster_Gonad_82@reddit
This is the way
CredibleSquirrel@reddit
Butter + Golden Syrup, sometimes jam, occasionally Cheddar.
Orangesteel@reddit
They’re more savoury, with butter and maybe cheese and bacon.
Careful-Coffee280@reddit
Toasted crumpet, butter +/- jam. Food of the Gods.
CharieRarie@reddit
I just like butter, but my kids have jam.
confusedoctopus8@reddit
Butter and honey😋
Upper_Paramedic_2043@reddit
Lashings of butter and a decent smear of Marmite on my crumpets
Seaside83@reddit
Butter, and only butter. Don't mess with perfection.
Awellknownstick@reddit
Usually just butter for my fam. But yes Occasionally jam
m1_ab@reddit
I sometimes put jam on a crumpet, so does my dad (in addition to a diabolical amount of butter, obviously). My mum looks on in horror and tells us we're committing crimes against crumpets. Opinions are split!
cardanianofthegalaxy@reddit
Butter on crumpets.
Jam and cream on scones.
corobo@reddit
Huh, I've always considered them a savoury food, but the answers are eye opening
AuroraDF@reddit
Yes to jam or honey. No to cream. That seems unusual.
valeriargh@reddit
Whilst officially a butter delivery system, I do like Nutella on a crumpet. And jam. Jam is nice.
Eastern_Arm1476@reddit
Just butter for me but I know people who put jam on.
I also know people who put cheese on theirs but I don't talk to them.
Frequent-Activity328@reddit
Traditionally just lashing of butter but people have all kinds of toppings. A friend has bacon and mushrooms.
DangerousDisplay7664@reddit
Not at all. Jam on crumpets is eaten all the time here! Not sure about cream though 🫤
Western-Mall5505@reddit
I only have them with jam.
jbkb1972@reddit
I’ve never put jam or honey on a crumpet, cream on a crumpet that just sounds like a crime. Just butter not margarine is fine, I like butter and marmite.
GoldfieldHwang@reddit
crumpets are to be eaten dry and immediately after being taken out of the fridge. if you're feeling really zesty you can put a spoonful of baked beans on top
Toffeemade@reddit
Butter and marmalade, maybe peanut butter at a pinch.
