I'm reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series currently. I don't read fiction often but I'm enjoying it. It's not groundbreaking but it is a fun read. I didn't realize there were almost ten of them so thank you local library!

Played in the creek that was full of storm water run off from the street. It was full of beer can's and bottles that we would collect and turn in for money. Stole from various construction sites to build things like forts, ramps and then rode our bikes though or off of them. Various fires, some inside. We also tried to made homemade fireworks, ended up making a sizeable enough pipe bomb the cops got called when we set it off in the creek. BB gun fights, knife throwing and sling shots. Some of us still have scars.

Is it just me, or did everyday life feel more connected 30–40 years ago?

Ours died after 20 years and we recently had it replaced. Expensive as hell, but those two weeks without it.... Terrible. Allergies and sinus infections, terrible sleep, the fear of forgetting to close a window the next morning. I grew up with frozen windows in the morning and a shitty fan in the summer and now I'm all fuck this I need my AC.

I had read an article that made the point that air conditioning ruined communities.  The idea was that everyone used to sit outside because it was hot indoors, and we would see people and talk to them more and this helped build a strong community.  Once AC started becoming a standard thing in houses we all went inside and lost the knowing our neighbors and the kids stopped knowing each other.  It makes some sense as no one had AC growing up and it's true we were all outside. Now I have no clue what the air conditioner adoption rate or timeframe actually is. So this idea could and probably is horseshit. Still though I remember sweating our asses off in the summer and freezing in the winter.

How old were you when you moved out?

18.  I was supposed to move out right after I turned 18 but since I was still in high school I bargained and got a year after graduating high school to stay. Then I moved out that summer anyway.

When did mowing the lawn become dangerous?

Posted by heynowbeech@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 1653 comments

funktopus@reddit

My kid is 14 he's been mowing since he was 12. I just told him don't do the hill on the side of the house because it is legitimately dangerous and obnoxious. He can do it now that he's got a good growth spurt under his belt. Inflations is a bitch as I pay him 20 to mow the front and the back. He also does jobs for his grandma and the guy across the street. He's got a nice bank account right now.

For the "power" users that's what were looking at. We have one group that has a legitimate need for more memory and a few users that could use it but in reality need to reboot at least once a week.

Not the actual wedding ring. That's in a box on my dresser. I wear that for special occasions. My daily ring is a silicone ring. I do too much dumb shit with my hands and don't want to deglove a finger.

Nope. My parents were not concert people. I have taken my son to several concerts, we turn them into family vacations if it's out of town. He's got his ear buds to help with noise and we have a great time.

Legal? Nope.  First drink of beer was Weidemans, Grandma's favorite.  First alcohol, was probably Jack Daniels cause that was always in the house.

Have you noticed any changes in your driving as you've grown up

Posted by chipinserted@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 109 comments

funktopus@reddit

No but my job location will change my driving habits. When I worked an hour away my commute was a open highway to get there and back, no real back roads. So I drove the limit and in a relaxed state. Driving faster barely saved any time.  Now I work downtown with a 30 minute commute in the morning and a 40-60 minute on the way home. Morning I will fly down there as the road isn't jammed with traffic. Evening I will fly off the on ramp until I hit the full stopped traffic. Back roads are a crapshoot. Some days they will save time.... Other days I wish for missile launchers as I'm dodging potholes behind an 80 year old and a bus.

What was your first car?

Posted by Runner_Girl1026@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 356 comments

funktopus@reddit

82 Toyota Corolla. The rear had rusted through so the suspension wasn't attached to the body back there. The window seals were blown and if it rained too much the car wouldn't start.  The starting problem got fixed when the main fuse panel burned and I put another one in. Probably died  cause it was just under the dash by the window.
