Voltron or Thundercats?

I remember in the 80s I got into a pretty viscous playground fight with another kid when we couldn’t settle an argument over which was cartoon was better: Voltron or Thundercats? I was team Voltron, and although I lost the fight that day, I believe I won the war.

The better question is, which is best amongst Ultraman (Urutora Shirīzu), Space Giants (Maguma Taishi), or Spectreman (Supekutoruman)?

YES! Thank you! I can never recall the name
REDDITSHITLORD@reddit
Team Voltron, here. I think you had to have cable for Thundercats.
SgtMayhem13@reddit
Both were very good
grynch43@reddit
I didn’t like either cartoon but Voltron toys were pretty good.
lmpcpedz@reddit
Voltron!! I think I had dreams of being a leg or something. Pidge was my favorite character!
sickboy6_5@reddit
Like asking He-Man or Transformers...
blackhorse15A@reddit
Unlike asking Transformers or GoBots
Blacktooth_Grin@reddit
GoBots are like the K-Mart of Transformers
Funwithfun14@reddit
You're correct, but I am downvoting it anyway.

DeadMetalRazr@reddit
We took our Voltron seriously in 2nd grade. If you couldn't draw Voltron from memory you were a dweeb and fights ensued. In hindsight though, I'd probably have to go with Thundercats as the cooler of the two shows.
moxiemoon@reddit
Oh man these are my two favorites. The answer is “yes”
ThePatriotGamer@reddit
Star Blazers or Bust!!!
Complex-Republic-443@reddit
That show was awesome!
zionzednem@reddit
Who can’t still hear the sound of the wave motion gun? Or someone yelling or cooing at Wildstar.
xRVAx@reddit
He man for the moral lesson at the end
Thundercats because it was just cat version of he-man
Voltron was same plot every time, like the A Team. The only interesting part was when they formed Voltron (and for the A Team it was when they turned a van into a tank and busted out of the barn)
bemenaker@reddit
Robotech and Starblazers
MrRetrdO@reddit
I went with Robotech. Doesn't matter that it was 3 different anime put together as one.
Robotech was the first "kids show" I saw that had people die.
rock0head132@reddit
Starblazers ftw
Bloatedoldman@reddit
Voltron is the shit
02C_here@reddit
Thundercats.
Except for that whiny asshole Snarf. Why they think a character like that is necessary, I don't know. Also, Mumm-Ra is one of the best villains EVER.
Voltron is super cool, but only once. Every episode is the same. Bad guy sends kaiju. Voltron team fights as individual lion ships, which doesn't work. Form Voltron, then barely win. Why not LEAD with Voltron and go home early? Why didn't the bad guys save up some kaiju and send 3 at once? Didn't pass 10 year old me logic.
MrRetrdO@reddit
YES!! But we'll stop at the Lion Voltron and not count the crappy vehicle version.
Drewzilla_@reddit
Thundercats had the worst voice acting except for mumra being amazing. I loved every minute of Thundercats.

Voltron 100%
Who remembers Rock Lords? I remember having just as many of those toys as Voltron toys. 😂
abeeyore@reddit
Rocks that come alive!
Every-Mousse6228@reddit
Voltron easily, Thundercats was just boring He-Man if it was the cast of Cats.
Funcrush88@reddit
Battlecat probably deserves his own musical 😂
RelaxBear74@reddit
Voltron, but only the lion one.
Bokononfoma@reddit
This is an important distinction, and I wholeheartedly agree. The vehicle one was not good. I just pretend it didn't happen, like Law & Order before Jack McCoy got there.
Auslander808@reddit
Definitely more into Voltron. But a topless Cheetarah sits in my early boy-brain. So I'm going Thundercats FTW.
SpeltWithOneT@reddit
Not a mention of Centurions? Philistines!
It was Robotech regardless.
ThePatriotGamer@reddit
I rephrase my earlier statement: Star Blazers or Robotech!!??
SpeltWithOneT@reddit
Robotech. Sorry, I mean ..
New Harmony Gold presents ... Robotech
lovedontfalter@reddit
Loved and looked forward to them all, Lions Voltron, Robotech, Thundercats, Star Blazers, Vehicle Voltron, even G.I.Joe and Transformers got darker/more mature towards the end of their peak eras
External_Side_7063@reddit
Star Blazers!!
ChefMikeDFW@reddit
Daily watch for me. I was always so amazed by the Argo
External_Side_7063@reddit
Yes only a certain age X knows this show, and when younger C talks about transformers and the Voltron, we were partying in the woods getting high at a keger and they have never heard of the show..
This is one of the drifts of our generation 😄
The storyline behind the show was brilliant. They did do a live action version of it in Japan years ago, but I don’t think there’s enough of us that love it here for it to be brought back. I think it should be for the story alone. It was brilliant.
NinjaEnder@reddit
Did you know they remade an animated version in Japan in 2012? Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199. They dubbed it in English, but everyone has their Japanese names
ThePatriotGamer@reddit
Watched it all, as well. Loved the original, but this newer one is really gritty and dark!!
External_Side_7063@reddit
Yes, I took a look at it, but it just seemed to lose its charm you know
ChefMikeDFW@reddit
Lol I learned that one later when I caught wind there was a Japanese version. I remember Argo was the ship's name at the time...
External_Side_7063@reddit
Yep they thought naming at the Argo from Greek mythology would be a better universal choice.. But here’s something you might not know the man who designed the Amato was an avid historical student of Greek mythology and there’s even a movie about the building of the battleship called the great war of Archimedes
He’s also the director of Godzilla minus one which was also brilliant and not really a Godzilla film at all just using him as a metaphor for American military might and demise
CawlinAlcarz@reddit
I turned 10 in 1980 and was pretty much over cartoons by then, so despite having been born in 1970, I have little knowledge of this era of TV. About the only one I watched was Star Blazers.
N-Y-R-D@reddit
How were you over cartoons at 10?!?
CawlinAlcarz@reddit
I dunno what to tell you, I just was. I was outside, playing little league, wondering what the other dinks were doing watching cartoons at that age.
b_o_m@reddit
Weird, I'm firmly in GenX (1968 vintage) and I have never seen either. I vaguely recognize the names, but have no memory of the characters or anything about those shows .
ThePatriotGamer@reddit
Mine's a 1965 vintage. First-gen GenX. I watched Speed Racer, Gigantor and Astro Boy, first.
UrsaMajor7th@reddit
That’s the weird thing about these social science generational constructs- the age range results in vastly different experiences.

Thundercats for the into animation and music. One of the best ever produced.
Voltron for the regular episodes and the God damned amazing toys! I had the die cast complete set growing up. Incredible memories.

This is the right answer. These were followed very closely by G.I. Joe and Transformers.
heretik77@reddit
Porque no los dos? I was a super fan of both and had multiple toys from both shows. I’m leaning Thundercats though because Lion-o turned me gay.
heretik77@reddit

Star Blazers then Voltron.

A viscous fight! That sounds gooey.

Robotech was my favorite.

Transformers.
The real debate is Robotech or Transformers.

Which voltron?
Old_Ad8212@reddit
I assume you’re being facetious, there is only the lion voltron
dafuqizzis@reddit
Negative. Voltron Vehicle Force was “part 2” of the Voltron story, with 15 team members/vehicles making up the legendary Voltron. Ran for 52 episodes.

I’m very much a Voltron guy but only the lions. I still like thundercats.
