Does your inner child still come out to play?

Last week I found myself hiding from my wife (and fortunately not because she had a rolling pin....... this time), then it suddenly dawned on me that I'm playing hide and seek in my late 50's with a person who is in their early 60's. For some reason it just felt a little surreal because I was sure as hell was not acting my age. Do you still do things like this?
TXQuiltr@reddit
The local pizza place has a hopscotch rug at the exit. Every time I leave, people will see this 60 year old person doing hopscotch out the door.

I still sneak up on my husband whenever I think he’s not looking, sometimes at home, sometimes while we’re out. I’ll also turn the radio up loud in the car just to see his face when he starts it next time.
He’s just as childish, he’ll send me videos of me sleeping and snoring, he’ll cover my back with stickers and loudly ask if I need embarrassing medicine.
To clarify, we’re a gay married couple of 53 and 48.
Starkville@reddit
Yes.
CtrlAltComment@reddit
I teach SEN kids so it comes out daily.
LeighofMar@reddit
Absolutely. The other day me, 48F and my husband, 63 rode our bikes thru the neighborhoods exploring how to get to a new park trail and we started racing each other. We had a blast. He took his e-scooter on the pump track to see what it was all about and let's just say the results were hilarious. On the way back, passing the elementary school, the kids were outside and waving to us as we pedaled by, so cute. I hope they see that you never stop playing. Ride your bike, dig out the skates or skateboard, do scavenger hunts, play the sports. I love going out to play.

Daily..
I have the extensive firearm collection my inner child always wanted, and a pretty decent RC car collection. My inner child RULES my finances. Doesn't hurt that I have a 5yo son that is into both as well....RC cars being primary right now, although he is very curious about the other collection and we'll start working on the first steps of that hobby in about a year, beginning with safety, and then safety, and then more safety.
some_one_234@reddit
I ride my bike several times a week
East-Garden-4557@reddit
Riding your bike is letting your inner child come out?
Cycling is transport and exercise 🤷♀️
some_one_234@reddit
When I was a kid I rode my bike everywhere, just exploring and having fun. Today I rode about 30 miles on my bike and yes it was primarily for exercise but I had no set route or anything, just exploring and having fun. If you can’t have fun riding your bike then that’s just sad
East-Garden-4557@reddit
I'm not saying you can't have fun riding your bike, but it is such a common things for adults to do for practical reasons that it doesn't really say inner child to me
unloosedcoin@reddit
I still don't know what I wanna do when I grow up
Global_Friend5300@reddit
Play is definitely still a part of my life. But I’ve been working a ton of overtime the last few months. So at the moment . . . I’ve decided I want to be Sleeping Beauty. But in my story, I want Prince Charming to run off with some cheap tramp and let me sleep forever. Zzzzz . . .
chutesandladders892@reddit
I still hide and try to scare my kids. And I yell "Boo!"
They don't even flinch anymore. Still fun though.
skdnn05@reddit
My oldest once elbowed me in the jaw when he was an older teen when I did this. No intent, just reaction. I never scared him again.
I still scare my middle son, his reactions are gold lol
Justasadgrandma@reddit
When my daughter (33) and I are in the store and can't find each other one of us yells Marco and the other yells Polo. I've gotten weird looks.
Quix66@reddit
I think that was funny. Now the family standing right beside when the dad yelled, “Red Rooster!” And the kids responded with, “Yum!” got some startled side eye from me. Don’t think the dad and family cared one bit!
I was shook at their boldness, haha!
perhaps_too_emphatic@reddit
All the time.
Zadyria_Gelm@reddit
Oh yes! Hubs and I have nerf wars, we tickle fight, we sword fight with wrapping paper tubes - we're 52yo. We play with our kids, too, all in their 20s.
Intelligent_Salad_70@reddit
I have a giant plush cat i cant sleep without i'm 59
deagh@reddit
55 and I slide around the kitchen in my socks. That's how I'll break a hip, I'm sure.
Intelligent_Salad_70@reddit
Skating🤣
Ar-Oh-En@reddit
Occasionally I'll skip.
4158264146@reddit
I didn't know we should have an inner child. I still collect sticks.
East-Garden-4557@reddit
Finding cool sticks is one of life's simple pleasures.
wisemonkey101@reddit
Yes. It was missing for a bit. I got a divorce and after healing she was back in full force!
East-Garden-4557@reddit
I have lived my whole life being ridiculous. I embrace the silliness. Being an adult doesn't mean you have to be boring and serious all the time.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
I was born with a goofy streak a mile wide, and my brother was, too.
I married a man with a goofy side.
Our adult daughter is goofy.
So yeah, you could definitely say we’re in touch with our inner kids.
Rhiannon8404@reddit
Way too often. Sometimes when she shouldn't 🤭
Both-Mango1@reddit
im playful by nature. I think it was Dean Martin who said "never take yourself too seriously "
whitingvo@reddit
All the damn time. Never grow up.
Catskillschick@reddit
Never grow up, never grow old!!
OGAF_Gamer@reddit
Responsable adult is just a role I play when it's necessary...I refuse to truly grow up as an act of heroic defiance
lazytiger40@reddit
My kids are still preteen, we still do the hide and seek chases around the apartment....
Fluffy_Respond_7405@reddit
All the time
Mistervimes65@reddit
I’m 60. I read about 250 books a year (mostly fantasy and SF), comic books, play video games, and play tabletop RPGs three times a week. You have to grow older. You don’t have to grow up.
ImCaffeinated_Chris@reddit
We don't want to grow up, we are toys r us kids!
Igmu_TL@reddit
Next, I'll hear about someone playing Peek-a-boo and Doctor with their spouse or adult friend.
Walts_Ahole@reddit
Every damn day, usually multiple times, mostly work our mini aussie - he truly gets me and loves hide & seek or any goofy thing I come up with
NahNah-P@reddit
Any time I get the chance. Doesn't everyone's?
Frankthabunny@reddit
2 nights ago I read a Transformers graphic novel comic book and had fruit Loops for dinner. And I play hide and seek with my cats all the time.
Ok_Math_59@reddit
Grade 2 yea her here, my inner child is ready to dominate the handball court at a moment’s notice—as long as my shoes have enough shock absorption to keep my lower back from filing a grievance.
Sh3llyP@reddit
Yes! I (46f) relax building legos - sometimes hubs (47m) joins with his own set. And, there are days when I hide from hubs when he comes home, then I ambush him with a nerf gun, and we battle it out until we are out of darts. We go to the roller-rink occasionally for a date night activity (although this is now become a questionable activity for me).
AppropriateDark5189@reddit
Over 50M. Every freaking day! I have mini slinkys that I hand out to my 20 something coworkers when I see they’re having an “overwhelming day”.
Most people think I’m in my 30s and I still don’t act that age.
funktopus@reddit
I collect Hot Wheels and comic books still.
I just sat down and talked about video games with my son for a half an hour.
Growing up is not in the cards for me.
JustFaithlessness178@reddit
I'm 57 and love pushing the shopping cart really fast across the parking lot. Scared of breaking a hip, so I don't jump on and ride it. But it feels close!
WatchPerfect6066@reddit
sudden flashback to the late 70s of my mum going apeshit... yelling stop that 😂
AbbreviationsGlad833@reddit
48 and still ride the shopping cart down the incline in the parking lot all the way to my car.
Electrical-Stable498@reddit
Me too and I’m 51 f. lol 😆
icedyoga@reddit
57- came here to say this. 👊🏼
Dale-Pooper@reddit
Heck yeah! I’m 51 and still do that. It saves a lot of time so not only is it fun, it’s downright practical.
Sea_Part_1581@reddit
57 here! Keep on rolling!!
WatchPerfect6066@reddit
always been there & hopefully always will.
koda5225252@reddit
Inner child? When did i grow up? Lol 😆 🤣 I'll never grow up.
FallenValkyrja@reddit
I keep wondering when I will feel like a real adult. Until then I am going to enjoy my gaming, Legos, pets, and going vroom vroom.
FriedaClaxton22@reddit
I literally just set up my new (to me) 1978 Superstar Barbie Stage Show today. So yes. I'm 55.
Snoringdragon@reddit
👁👁 c'n I come over to play? That's a sweet find!
FriedaClaxton22@reddit
💖
Independent-Dog5311@reddit
That's so cool. I still buy toys on occasion. I don't play with them, but they're on display in various parts of my house. Like on my desk and bookshelves. Some even travel with me in my car on the dash. Hee hee.
FriedaClaxton22@reddit
Why not surround yourself with things that bring you joy 😊
WhereItsAt75@reddit
I occasionally hide from my dog. I am a 50 year old woman who is amused when my dog can't find me.
mjh8212@reddit
I bought two jumbo peep plush. Ones on my bed yes my husband still has room and I use it as a pillow. Being disabled i lay down off and on during the day it’s comforting. I have lots of plush toys some put away but you can tell a 47 year olds inner child has come out to play.
Potential-Pool-5125@reddit
Currently making up for lack of childhood
After_Narwhal8582@reddit
Same
TheBigNoiseFromXenia@reddit
I bought a Miata NB. My inner child plays everyday from mid March to November.
hapster85@reddit
Every damned day 😂
galtscrapper@reddit
Hell yes.
My 2 year old granddaughter is my favorite person to play with cause we just match energy.
It's so FREEING I love letting my kid out to play.
MassDelusion101@reddit
I love perusing the toy aisles, specifically the Barbie aisle, forever hoping they will bring back Ballet Barbie with the crown in her head so she can be twirled. I collect dolls and Barbie will always have a special place in my heart. (My collection is mostly Tonner dolls, but if I can ever get my hands on a 70’sBallet Barbie, that would be awesome)
Snoringdragon@reddit
THE 70'S BALLET BARBIE WAS THE BOMB. Her elegant posture. Her impossibly sticky legs when you put her in pants. And the crown. THE CROWN! The little ballet shoes that had that impossible closure. I miss her too!
Snoringdragon@reddit
I also miss my Grow Up Skipper. My two favorites!
Independent-Dog5311@reddit
Absolutely. It's part of self-parenting for me, and mine is always lurking waiting to make a move when the time is appropriate.
And it's Saturday night here...time for some video 🎮 games 🕹!!! Take charge and redefine your adulthood.
midnight_to_midnight@reddit
My inner child is in charge.
Quirky-Train-6659@reddit
We all grew up too fast. We are all spending our lives attempting to create our childhood. One toy or experience at a time. 59 yo.
Jas62021@reddit
My happy place is Universal Studios Orlando. And I still buy an occasional stuffed animal for myself
Northman_76@reddit
My inner child/teenager is fully in the drivers seat at all times (unless it concerns money).
Ledophile@reddit
I usually have to beat her into submission so I can actually get some adulting done………..
DangerBird-@reddit
Mine just doesn’t get to come out and play as often anymore, but it’s 100% still there. Slightest provocation.
cwcharlton@reddit
Mom had a sign in her house: We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing. Words to live by.
More_Law6245@reddit (OP)
I genuinely love that statement, that one is going straight to the pool room!
Acceptable_Stop2361@reddit
I love this
cosmoboy@reddit
I was going to do yardwork today, but instead I started reorganizing my toy room/man cave.
takotako577@reddit
Let's just say my "inner child" isn't really inner.
DreadPirateWade@reddit
DreadPirateWade@reddit
My inner child and my inner teenager are constantly fighting my outer adult, and thankfully they’re winning.
kawyckoff@reddit
Absolutely. Teaching preschool helps, but i’d still play without them🥳
GenXer-Bitch@reddit
My inner child will be playing until I break a hip tobogganing!
Lucky_Guess4079@reddit
Almost daily, the eye rolls from the spouse are never ending
Htiaf26101@reddit
Yes, I like to remember there’s a difference between child-like and childish lol.
MuttsandHuskies@reddit
Heck, yeah! Jump scares doing the I’m not touching you. I do kid stuff with my grandson. Go hop on rocks and play in the water and do whatever crazy things they wanna do. I’m up for it.
Mycatreallyhatesyou@reddit
I’m a nanny so my inner child is out ten hours a day.
WiseAce1@reddit
was it supposed to go away, 😂
NvGable@reddit
Always.
Accurate-Response317@reddit
He’ll yes. I’m constantly being told to stop acting like a nine year old. When you see fun you can’t turn your back on it.
