Ford Has No Regrets About Killing Its Sedans, Yet One Might Return As A Mustang

Ford has no regrets... Because that would indicate they fucked up. Just like when they recently killed the Escape. A very high up head should roll at a competent company, but that is not Ford.

The massive decline of Ford/Lincoln sales continue with Ford and Lincoln sales down 13.6% and 20.5% monthly even as other brands bounce back in May sales.

Mach E - I like it, but I suspect I would buy an Ioniq 5 first Mustang - I'll buy a slightly used BMW 4 series instead F150 & Maverick - I would never buy a pickup truck so I am not that customer. Meanwhile, the Escape was discontinued, and I don't hear anyone discuss the Explorer as an option. Lincoln SUVs look really nice, but just never even entered my mind as something to buy I saw gas at $7 yesterday here in California. They are just so not ready for the future.

I really wish the Supra had been available in a convertible or targa, I prefer its styling a bit more but wanted the open air. The steering feel is a real point of comparison and compared to the Porsche's it is a bit hard to not want to just buy a used one over a newer Supra/Z4.

As much as I think the Luce looks like absolute shit... I think Lambo's Urus is by far worse. A cynical rebadge with mediocre styling. Their first SUV should have been a lambo engine, fucking looked wild, and been something that stood out.

I wouldn't mind an EV Ferrari. Honestly nothing against EVs except their weight. In many ways I prefer them. But... that thing is ugly. And the interior does nothing for me. If anything, Ive has revealed that he can't get out from the shadow of Dieter Rams and design something true to Ferrari and innovate at the same time.

Sienna. It needs better seats and less weight. Macan EV. The steering wheel is slightly too small and is always in line of sight of my speedometer with any of the alternate displays. Also the rear camera is too fisheyed. And it absolutely needs a rear wiper Cayenne. They are buying it back? So maybe not a lemon.

Toyota - building hydrogen distribution to match ubiquitous gas stations and electricity will be a piece of cake, especially if we invest zero into it. Americans - ruin our trade agreements, China containment policy and roll coal!

Honestly with the Macan EV, the current Taycan has no reason. The Macan is just a slightly tall hatch in this current car world. The whole US EV-apocalypse is of course fiction; let in the Chinese and we will see how the EV market does - oh wait, it would literally destroy every single car company here. The real problem is sunk cost fallacy and an inability to innovate at speed. I like my Macan EV, but I don't pretend that it is a stunning achievement.

Honestly I am seeing more and more R1S in my admittedly ritzy neighborhood. So I think the R2 will be a killer. The styling is maybe a bit too similar IMO and I wish they had gone with straight upwards 1990s LR Disco safari windows instead of the 80's Bronco read windows, but whatever. I wonder if the R3 will get a soft-top variant? As much as I like the R1S, the main hesitation is still CarPlay. I am not paying a subscription for features that are table stakes in other cars.

Went and test drove today Vistiq. Nice interior. Good amount of space. But if it feels like the mini Escalade it drives like the full size one. Did they never take a damn turn in this thing? Ioniq 9. Might be the winner to replace our minivan but not our Cayenne. Just well thought out and nice but not so nice that having kids in it would freak you out. Lexus RZ. Took this for a spin. People say the ride is soft? I have no idea, the one we road was harsh as hell and in sport was unbearable. The two tone yellow interior was all kinds of weird and really just not a good look. But other than those two things it felt like 70% of the Macan at 50% of the price.

Location: SF Bay Area Price range: $60-100K Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: Either buy prefer slightly used Type of vehicle: 3 or maybe a 2 row EV Intended use: Daily family car Vehicles you've already considered: List is 1. Ioniq 9 2. Cadillac Vistiq 3. Rivian R1S 4. BMW iX (can I get an ix3 - not sure it is available anywhere) 5. Macan EV 6. Mustang Mach E is the budget choice I think Warranty - yes. Prefer CPO Well Porsche is buying back our Cayenne Hybrid because it is a buggy piece of crap. The loaner Macan 4 EV we have has been pretty great actually. But now to decide what to do next. Lucid is out because their survival is questionable and their QC and bugs are all over the place. Even if they are super amazing space on the inside. Tesla is out because Elon. I don’t know a lot about the Volvo so maybe that should go on the list? We drove a Rivian R1S 1st gen and liked it well enough. But lack of CarPlay makes me super hesitant. I am not paying a fucking subscription. Same concern with the Vistiq. Charging time is no big deal because we just use it around home. So range doesn’t matter too much either.

I’d buy a Gravity. I am in the target market. But the reliability issues are just too much without guarantees of fixes. Like way too much risk for a $100k car. (Also learn how to engineer a proper sunshade…) I want a spacious three row and don’t give one fuck about off-road capability - it is a negative in my book because it comes at the cost of on road driving. As it is I am looking at the Ioniq 9 or Rivian.
