Mercedes-AMG EV GT 4-Door interior press pictures

I wish the trimming on the seats was more characterful but besides that I think it’s a pretty nice looking interior although I think it might’ve looked better if the passenger had a much smaller screen to use if a screen at all.

I dunno, my first impression is that that interior is busy as hell. It's not sleek or graceful or aesthetically pleasing. It has many, many different textures and pieces all vying for your attention simultaneously. Nothing seems to flow or naturally guide your eyes. A lot of the knobs and vents look cheap - they look like the mid-2000s Mercedes and Chrysler interiors that had dozens of such pieces all made in cheap plastic that felt brittle and rattle-y. The quilting on the door card is cool, but it's competing with everything else to stand out. Overall, my first impressions aren't great. The design just looks like it's trying too hard.

I'll take a [mid-2000's MB interior](https://www.exclusiveautomotivegroup.com/imagetag/1171/13/l/Used-2007-Mercedes-Benz-E-Class-E-350-4MATIC-1522857564.jpg) any day over this nonsense.

For recent interiors I love the last [S-class](https://www.groovecar.com/stock/images/stills/2019/mercedes-benz/s-class/awd-amg-s-63-4matic-2dr-coupe/2019-mercedes-benz-s-class-awd-amg-s-63-4matic-2dr-coupe-059-large.jpg). The screens are well-integrated and it's a good mix of contemporary and classic IMO. The wood and leather on the dash keep it from feeling cheap or overly dominated by technology.
View on Reddit #80039450

flGovEmployee@reddit

While that S-class is undeniably better than either whats up top or your second linked interior, I still feel like the screens are more of a detriment to the design than a benefit, especially for the instrument cluster. I fully expect a cheap looking screen (and at this point, literally every screen in every setting looks cheap now that they're ubiquitous) on a Kia or a Chevy, but a Mercedes should deliver a higher class of materials and design. I can't wait for the industry to move on from its current phase of edgelord interiors.

Screens are a necessity these days with how much functionality cars have. But it's the implementation in most of the industry that really bothers me. Unfortunately you only get well-integrated screens at the ultra-luxury level. Only [Rolls](https://youtu.be/Qpqc3v_CGfI?t=302), [Bentley](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZNGniDpJ-s), and [Bugatti](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1nVk3IHVYA) allow you to hide the screen. But it's crazy that you have to spend $200K minimum to get some elegance. And only the Phantom isn't a touchscreen. Screens in cars mirror interior design trends. Interior design went through TV phases. When they first became the hot thing in living rooms 60 years ago people hid them behind [cabinet doors](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fzoykr9gchdg51.jpg) when not in use. Then we had a period of [showing off](https://www.lubbockonline.com/gcdn/authoring/2013/05/04/NLAJ/ghows-TX-a9cb322e-4280-4658-8efe-d871bacf1f44-3a12e237.jpeg?width=660&height=344&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp) the biggest screen you could afford. And now interior design is back to [hiding](https://www.contemporist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/modern-wood-wall-hidden-tv-080121-831-01.jpg) the TV or integrating it with the rest of the space. Car interiors are firmly in the big screen era. Aston Martin went from [this](https://www.astonmartinofgreenwich.com/imagetag/2967/21/l/Used-2016-Aston-Martin-Rapide-S.jpg) to [this](https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/news-listicle/image/aston_martin_db11_embargo_010316_1400cet_21.jpg) in one generation. Audi went from [this](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F2018-a8-one-of-my-fav-things-about-this-car-retractable-v0-vdzhua87ej281.jpg%3Fwidth%3D4000%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D988d43688bcaa00e91363bf14a1eeeeec33f5d9e) to [this](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2019-audi-a6-3-0t-118-1547049594.jpg?crop=1xw:1xh;center,top&resize=980:*) to...[this thing](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2026-audi-a6-126-6983658cc5515.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.845xh;0,0.0937xh&resize=1200:*). And while there's a tiny backlash, it's not enough to make a dent. The biggest car market wants lots of big screens, so that's where mainstream cars are heading. No shade against Chinese market trends, they're entitled to their preference. It's just not for me, and I wish there was more customizability if you don't want a digital experience.

I don't love the last S-Class interior, but I do think it's pretty good, and is miles better than the current S.

It still had the dash space with wood trim and elegant pin stripes and classy vents etc. just the screen are out of places. Compared to these new hyperscreen/wall of screen, yikes.

Yep, my GF had a 2007 Mercedes SLK a few years ago. Excellent little hard top convertible, lots of fun. However, I remember being shocked at how cheap and creaky the center console was with those big cheap buttons that scratched easily. I remember being shocked at how it was clearly a small evolutionary step above the [Chrysler Crossfire dash](https://static0.carbuzzimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/930902_converted.jpg?q=50&fit=contain&w=1150&h=650&dpr=1.5) which, while it looked nice, felt *soooo* cheap. And if you look at it, that dash is [the same as the prior model SLK](https://directcartrim.com/cdn/shop/products/2001-2004-mercedes-benz-slk-real-brushed-aluminum-dash-trim-kit-416397.jpg?v=1710468275) the Crossfire was built on, so that makes sense. In any case, these look better than this, but I would bet serious money this is made from better quality materials and assembled better.

The conceit didn’t have one and the dashboard ànd has an actual design. For these EV inteeiirs Mercedes has done for the EA platform theyve watered down all the interiors when creating the production model.

This looks so much worse than their hyperscreen. The blockiness emphasizes the crazy bezels so bad.
View on Reddit #80626978

I usually don't comment on Mercedes interiors because I have nothing nice to say. But since this car is supposed to theoretically appeal to me, why not.  This is stressful for a 6 figure flagship EV. I get that mainstream brands are fully entrenched in all things digital, but there's little to no considered design here. Screens from door to door with a bizarrely angled center screen and tunnel to make it "driver focused." The only thing to draw the eye across the cabin is harsh monochromatic lighting (and yes I'm sure it can be turned off). On that note I how it's all comfort because red and black is such a harsh combination.
View on Reddit #80027899

flGovEmployee@reddit

Red and black like this just gives strong Shadow the Hedgehog vibes, with all the cringe inherent to that connotation.
View on Reddit #80515863

Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)

I think the colors won’t be limited to red and black since it’s not for the hybrud ànd ICE GT variants. I do happen to agree with a lot of what you said though. There’s some good ideas for the interiors that could’ve looked better if there was a different execution in term of design

Harry’s Garage had a RR Cullinan with bright red interior recently and I found myself wondering what the hell has happened to elegant car interiors. Mercedes are just as bad.
View on Reddit #80029217

strongmanass@reddit

At least with RR that was somebody's choice and you can change everything about the interior. The Germans don't allow that level of customization in their mainstream products. The AMG GT 4 door should be an exception, but we'll see. You can still find elegance at the ultra-luxury price point ([Bentley](https://images.hgmsites.net/med/bentley-continental-gt_100693160_m.jpg), [Aston Martin](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/2024-aston-martin-db12-volante-171-660f0f352fc19.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.847xh;0,0.0561xh&resize=980:*) ), but it's tough at mainstream level. Among mainstream auto makers [Genesis](https://www.cnet.com/a/img/resize/b35fe1327469bc66f7264c15992d39f30aa0e587/hub/2021/12/14/c668d6a2-979f-4896-9d62-273213b53d4b/2023-genesis-g90-222.jpg?auto=webp&width=1200) probably has the best balance of contemporary and elegant. Probably no surprise their design leadership came from Bentley...just in time for Bentley to jump into extra digital (upcoming EV is just a Cayenne EV copy). The [Audi Concept C](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/a251447-large-68b71858135f1.jpg?crop=0.8287643620237856xw:1xh;center,top&resize=1200:*) gives me some hope. It's a bit too minimalist for me, but at least everything that's there is very well considered.

Why would I as a customer care if wood is more expensive than carbon fiber if I like the look of carbon more?
View on Reddit #80092219

flGovEmployee@reddit

Because they're typically charging extra for the carbon fiber. Same with Alcantera wheels, its often an upcharge despite just being plastic.
View on Reddit #80515080

Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)

The carbon fiber is optional so leather and perhaps wood is an option. They have a beige wood trim available for the gasoline powered GT so it’s likely that at least one wood trim option will be available for the EV gt 4 door.

View on Reddit #80029737

Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)

They had a fabric pull strap for the concept but I don’t notice one on this but it might be because of the lighting. I’m sure they made sure whatever they included for opening and closing the door is compliant with all markets though but with thsy being said different markets might get different ways to open yhe doors due to varying regulations.
View on Reddit #80030166

AwesomeBantha@reddit

It would be a real shame if they don’t give every market the pull strap. Kind of like how only some Model Ys made in the same year have a physical (but hidden) rear door release. It sometimes feels like there are more regulations designed to make it easy for someone to leave a locked trunk than there are for someone to leave an actual seat.
View on Reddit #80030647

Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)

I think it likely is a hidden command somewhere on the door panel because I just looked at a picture just showing the side of the door from inside and there is no present door release so either theyve hidden it very well or there’s a extremely surprising way to open and close the door. Yeah it really should be more balanced. I don’t know the numbers but I’d assume that people in peril not being able to open their door is a more common case then someone being stuck in a trunk.
View on Reddit #80031551

_galaga_@reddit

It's pretty busy and super high contrast with all the lighted/deviated stitching accents. Gonna assume the press pics are intentionally the most loud to be attention grabbing and you could spec something a little more chill. I've always liked the round elements the AMG GT interior usually has. The OG had four circular vents above the center stack and this has two large circular vents on the ends of the dash (although I don't think the vents need lighting like that).
