Any posts pertaining to car buying suggestions or advice belong in this weekly megathread; do not post car-choosing questions in the main queue. A fresh thread will be posted every Monday and posts auto sorted by new. A few other subreddits worth checking out that will help your car buying experience are /r/WhatCarShouldIBuy, /r/UsedCars and /r/AskCarSales. www.everydaydriver.com may also be helpful.
Make/Model-specific questions should be asked on Make/Model-specific subreddits. Check the AutosNetwork for a complete list of those subreddits. Also check out our community-sourced Ultimate car buying wiki.

Location: Southeastern Pennsylvania, USA
Price range: up to $15,000 USD
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Used
Type of vehicle: Hatchback or small, sporty sedan
Must haves: Its for a teenager's first car so safety features like airbags, backup camera and collision detection, BT, Car play, Android Auto.
Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Automatic

Vehicles you've already considered: VW Golf GTI, Subaru Impreza, Mazda 3
Is this your 1st vehicle: Mine, no. Kid's, yes.
Do you need a Warranty: No
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No
Additional Notes: Kid is a very good driver IMO, phone down, cautious and risk averse, but they don't drive like a granny either so something with some pep would be ok. Prefer something with higher ground clearance and AWD because we go to the nearby mountains for hiking, mountain biking and skiing. Kid wants something with alloys/rims and looks good with a roof rack for attaching skis and bikes etc.

Subaru Crosstrek? Hatchback, good in winter, affordable, safe. Plenty of them available in your neck of the woods for under $15k with under 100k miles.

My wife has a new job and she's losing her company car but gaining $$$
She just likes anything with personality. The only cars I've ever seen her show interest in are the Ford Maverick and Bronco/Bronco Sport, G-wagons, VW ID.Buzz, or Beetles. Thinking the Maverick is the way to go since we're also buying a new house, but trying to fun some more "funky" or interesting SUV options that aren't a Bronco Sport.

I adore my two door Bronco with the 7MT. I have never been an SUV person but this thing is so much fun to drive around town in — especially with the top off.
I’ve also seen some amazing close out deals on ID.Buzz — $20k off MSRP in some case. I’m still scared of the deprecation on those though and would only be comfortable buying one if you expect to lose $20k+ in value over the next 3-5 years.

id.Buzz is my last choice for that reason and the range.
We needed a "temporary" car for a few months before we moved so I bought a stick shift TJ Jeep thinking it'll be easy to sell and we've been pretty charmed by it, so a 2 door Bronco or Wrangler is high on my list. I've always loved driving with the top down but now I'm not mouth level with every one else's exhaust pipes like I had been in my old Miata. I'll be selling the Jeep before we move but might look at a JL or Bronco.

Been using this thread for months now, super helpful when I was looking for something reliable for work commute. The template really helps narrow down what you actually need vs what you think you want
Just remember to be realistic about your budget - saw too many people here get their heart set on something then realize insurance/maintenance costs way more than they planned for
