What do I do with a Model Railway collection?

Posted by LadyAilla@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 216 comments

Tattycakes@reddit

This is a little side track but your story reminds me so much of one that I just read in Ashes to Admin, about council funerals for people with no family. One man was a big model train enthusiast and his local club were wonderful with handling his collection and attending his funeral. A sad but also moving and uplifting book if you ever find yourself in a place to read it.

What books do you return to over and over and why?

Because I am the mother of our cats, I am mumculus. We are also occasionally crapbag and clayface, I don’t remember where they came from but we picked them up in the callcentre where we met The rest of the time it’s things like goobenator, flobbinator, and the odd mong-a-tronic

How do I stop the spiders?

You’re guessing wrong. Spiders in the uk are not that noisy. You should probably get some psychological support if they are troubling you this much because it’s just not a practical solution to try and get rid of them all.

We’ve never had to run our air con all day, they bring a room temperature down surprisingly quickly. We have it in the bedroom at night, and on our study for working from home, and we only spent £15 on running costs for the entire year

I don’t judge anyone else for taking them but I would judge myself if I had to take them because I wasn’t able to have control of my food, does that make sense? I guess I know that I am actually capable of counting calories and being in a deficit, I just keep taking the piss and not doing it, I can’t know what others are capable of

Part of why I’m choosing not to be a parent. I give in to my cat crying for food, or I tell him to shut the fuck up, I would \*not\* be good with a kid.

Posted by Cal_PCGW@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 248 comments

I’ve seen some talk recently about people being put on virtual waiting lists and getting these “appointments” in the middle of the night and weekends, which aren’t actual appointments, they’re just a way to keep people on the system. Definitely phone and double check!

Is there anyway to find my adoptive parents after 20 years?

Posted by SeaworthinessSalt111@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 93 comments

Tattycakes@reddit

It sounds like you might be seeking some validation and approval from them. That’s a completely natural thing to want as their child, as a human being. But I hope you can also prepare yourself for the possible worst case scenario that you find them and they just don’t care. They abandoned you and didn’t seek you out despite having a clear method to reach out via your military route. What does that tell you? Please consider having some professional support while you go through this, even if it’s just a community of people who’ve been through the same thing, there will be a subreddit and/or a facebook group for abandoned adoptees, I’m sure.

Not to mention that’s it’s not unheard of for couples to miraculously conceive after adopting, and you’ve then got the biological child vs adopted child situation.

Am I normal to put off simple, 5 minute tasks until I can’t put it off anymore longer?

Posted by Extreme-Ebb2720@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 187 comments

Tattycakes@reddit

I find it helps if you don’t overthink it. Sometimes we can settle into a pattern of identifying ourself as an untidy or procrastinating person, and then it becomes hard to fight against your own label and tidy things up when the urge strikes. Give yourself permission to empty stuff early, or wipe stuff up straight away if the urge strikes. Instead of seeing a mess and thinking “I’ll leave that til later”, accept the fact that you’d actually like to tidy it up right now, and then bask in the tidy afterglow.

Do you avoid thinking about your passed loved ones?

How different is ‘work you’ vs ‘real you’?

Posted by underarock12@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 171 comments

Tattycakes@reddit

Right now work me is grumpy and stressed, thanks to being baited and switched into a promotion that turned out to be nothing like it was advertised, and a manager and team who are doing their hardest to destroy each other, with me being caught in the middle. Real me is actually calm and chill and fun.

How can I dispose of a dead pet?

Posted by tigralfrosie@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 435 comments

Tattycakes@reddit

You hit the nail on the head. We put a lot of importance on the respectful treatment of a body after passing, but at the end of the day, the pet (or person) we knew is gone and we don’t always have the means to do what we want with their remains. Rest assured they will return back to the earth one way or another, whether it’s in a garden, or their ashes alone, or ashes combined with other furry friends. I’d take a communal pet disposal over the alternative, I don’t even know where my last cat is, she just vanished. I don’t know if she’s alive or dead, I have no body or closure at all.
