Are all hotel Chocolat staff really nice?

I was away from home and popped into a hotel Chocolat shop (which I don't typically do), the staff member was so nice and patient with my youngest child, I had to write a positive review when I got home.

A week or so later, I went to my local one, to buy something I sampled from before.

Again, stand out stellar service. Couldn't do enough to help me.

I was wondering if this was typical, if they just employ people with great customer service skills, or does enough chocolate make you happy?

It's a (relatively) high end shop- the more expensive the items, the better the service in my experience. I find in M&S the staff are always brilliant and attentive. Today in Morrisons the cashier didn't look at me once and didn't even say thank you when she handed me my receipt.

Or maybe they're paid more than f* all and treated better lol. Can't go into a supermarket without hearing someone being a bellend to someone who works there.

I've found the opposite. Absolutely fine in Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's but miserable in my local Sparks.

Tesco I can't comment on because I worked on my local one, and either use self-serve or go through a till with an ex-colleague in.

Unfortunately I don't buy from them anymore since 1) Mars took over them 2) they recently downsized their boxes while also upping the price extavagantly.

Going to have to get my good chocolate somewhere else!

Yes I noticed this shrinking as well! Last year the ostrich egg came with a round tin of chocolates, the egg AND a big tin to package all of that, but this year it’s just the egg with a few chocolates inside, wrapped up in cardboard and it’s the same price! I do like the unique cardboard packaging for the eggs, but this was still quite the downgrade

Yeah it's fucked honestly, shrinkflation should be illegal! Literally charging more for less and you can bet the recipes will start changing to make them cheaper to make at source too. Such a shame.

i used to visit the cafe twice a week and it was always quite so the manager used to chat to me for quite a while. we are now friends and i take advantage of her employee discount!

I used to work there. Loved the chocolate - it helps any retail if you have faith in the product and it genuinely helps spread joy. I do know that cacao prices increasing a couple of years ago had a big impact.
