I recall at the time of its cancellation that the reason was very clearly stated that they couldn’t fit airbags in the A pillars. It was never about emissions… ?

"Certain customers simply enjoy the thrill of driving a car with a powerful engine... A smooth powertrain is good for those people who use their car daily for commuting. However, those who purchase performance cars make that decision in the pursuit of driving" - Lotus CEO

The real alternative is that you sap the morale and willingness to fight from all servicemen and women if you don’t put in every effort to rescue them.

Setting aside that I think Ferrari making an EV is the most nonsensical thing ever, those pictures show a surprising amount of physical switches and touch controls. Regardless of what I think of the design of those controls, the fact that there are so many buttons shows they’ve at least learned a lesson that touch screens and haptic buttons in a car are stupid.

Can Americans learn to love tiny, cheap kei cars?

Like I said, I’m a fan in the right circumstances. I very much hate the arms race of malign everything bigger for “safety” when in reality that endangers everyone else around them. I’d have one around town for sure, but I’d simply never use it on the highway.

Habibi, I was just talking about my personal take on the survivability of a car made specifically for the road conditions of one country vs. the very different conditions that exist in another. I’m not trying to justify it or other illogical what-aboutism examples.

My wife’s Japanese, and her family in Yokohama has a kei car. I love driving it every time I’m out there, but I would not want to have an accident in a US intersection or on US freeways in one. Tooling about tiny and slow Japanese streets is one thing, getting blasted by a lifted truck at 50MPH+ is entirely another.

I'm not a pilot nor did I spend the night in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I think the intent was to capture the entire plane in the camera frame, and maybe they would have had it not bounced so hard at the initial touchdown.
