No one bought the SS because it looked like a Malibu. GM treats the Camaro as a parts bin special and never advertises the car. Also their research for the Camaro before development asks previous owners what they liked. They don't ask mustang and mopar drivers why they didn't choose the Camaro. Camaro is likely to return alongside the CT5 sedan

Umm every brand eventually sells all cars they import or make lol. Average selling time for an SS was months on months. And certainly no one new about it because like the Camaro GM never advertised it. They sold it for racing reasons I believe? Don’t wanna sound like a manual stickler but what’s the likelihood that any Charger variant comes with a stick? In an ideal world for me, the CT4-V Blackwing (or Blackwing-based Chevy sedan) comes with an LT1 lol. There’s just not many options for people who want a manual V8 sedan unfortunately, I love my Camaro but rear space and blind spot visibility are my only complaints and a sedan body style would fix both

I dont have my CT4V BW anymore, but that engine is incredibly slept on. With a jb4, throttle body, intake, injectors and dp it was making 500 whp and sounded insane, better than most v8s including my current Durango Hellcats exhaust. Plus it comes in stick and has some of the best sport bucket seats around.

The old ones basically mandated that you had to sell 1.5 PHEV or 1 EV to offset the fleetwide MPG requirements of a single V8 or buy some credits from other companies (mainly Tesla). As you can tell the old CAFE rules were written in a way to give Tesla a billion dollar plus revenue upside. Ford can offer the GT by offering the Mach E + jacking up MSRP of the GT - partly to keep sales to an offsetable number and partly to subsidize the Mach E. GM already has a bunch of V8s they are offsetting through price hikes, EV subsidies, and Tesla credits but no way they’ll add another Camaro/SS to the lineup even with the current rules with the risk of things changing again in 3 years

Totally get the frustration. This piece shows how GM keeps piling tech and power into the C8 lineup with cars like the ZR1X, but that focus on mid‑engine halo models leaves a gap for the simple, affordable RWD V8 manual many fans want. It definitely did increase over the years, for 2024 these were the numbers: LT1: $40k-$58k 1SS: $44k-$60k 2SS: $49k-$70k The most expensive of each were part of the Collectors Edition vehicles but regular cars were only $2-3k under the top prices

The one drove had a 6 speed and a supercharged v8- it was tremendously fast and fun to drive. Imagine a 60s GTO with 650hp, an incredible mag suspension and amazing seats. It was 87k though so way out of my comfort zone. SS is as fun, maybe mire, but the interior just isn’t what I’d prefer. Awesome it’s pre-screen though.

The C4 didn't have the same amount of trims and distinctions as current Vettes do. For most of the production, there was only the base, the Z51, and the ZR-1. The C4 GS was effectively a Z51 with a fancy paintjob, but it did also use the ZR-1's wheel sizes and Autozone femder flares to create the widebody look. But for the era it did fill the role of being the sportiest factory setup using the regular engine. The LT4 was 1996 only, but it was a mutually inclusive option with the manual transmission for that year, so it wasn't unique to the GS. The C6 GS shared the motor with the base models of its years. The C6 platform as a whole started with the 6.0L LS2, but in 2008 GM made the base engine the 6.2 LS3. The C6 GS has the LS3.

I don't own a C6, so I'm not that familiar with any problems the LS3 might have. Small Block Chevy's in general are kind of indestructible, and the LS3, as far as I can tell, is one of the most capable and reliable motors even amongst Chevy V8's. At 100k the motor is probably fine. Just look for sparkles in the oil I guess.

That’s a reasonable guess. With the C8 lineup already spanning from the LT2 up through the ZR1X hardware, a larger-displacement V-8 could make sense as a Grand Sport-style bridge, borrowing lessons from the ZR1X while sitting between the Stingray and Z06 in character.

That would make a lot of sense actually. Having a distinct engine for each trim level keeps them all feeling unique instead of just "same car but we added some aero bits." Plus if they're already pushing 1250 hp at the top end with the ZR1, where else do you even go? A bigger displacement engine for a Grand Sport that focuses more on everyday driveability rather than pure track numbers seems like the smart move. Not everyone wants to deal with a flat plane crank or turbos just to have fun on a weekend drive

More than a little pedantic given they are all the same engine with different bolt ons and software tweaks. Yeah i definitely hated it for being a boomer-mobile as a kid. It was also the middle child of American cars for me…more expensive than the Mustang or the typical Pontiac but way less cool than the Viper. But now that Pontiac is gone, Dodge doesn’t make anything cool, and Ford hasn’t meaningfully innovated with the Mustang in damn near a decade I appreciate GMs dedication to the nameplate way more. Doubly so since it’s still a relative bargain.

A lot of the hate is towards GM management. GM had special cars like the Fiero, but cars like that would get sandbagged before production, because no vehicle is allowed to be faster than a Corvette at the time. Nowadays, the C7 and C8 are well into performance car territory.

Yeah for what the Corvette is trying for it has done ridiculously well, relatively attainable but still special American sports car with V8 power. When people have tried to denegrate it, it’s been by comparing it to other cars it was never trying to be. And that was before the current model, which I think is safe to call a supercar unless you necessitate such a car to be made outside America, have limited production, or cost north of $100k for all examples new.

It's a progression. I was a Honda boi as a young man, then discovered RWD V8 is more better, which as an American leads to American/GM vehicles, because import V8s tend to be significantly more expensive, then after 40 I realized I unironically both owned multiple pairs of New Balance and that Corvettes were catching my eye, then the C8 came out and I was like "yup, Imma buy a Corvette at some point in the future, it's inevitable".

A manual would definitely make some purists happy, but with the mid‑engine C8 layout and the ZR1X’s extreme performance goals, GM has gone all‑in on the dual‑clutch setup. It’s part of how they’re extracting those huge power numbers and keeping the car livable at that level.

The C6 had, all at the same time: Ls3/ls7/ls9 (ls2 was 05-07) Base/z51/GS/Z06/ZR1 C7 also had the lt1/lt4/lt5 Base/z51/GS/Z06/ZR1 So pretty standard, but c8 or c9 on track to have the most configs I think. Which is awesome
