Man, it really is going to be five years between AMG C63's at this rate.
hamburglar27@reddit
According to the article, the days of the V8 C-Class are probably over. This new V8 will likely only be in the CLE, E-Class, and higher models.
C-Class likely only get the I6 and have the C53 as the top model.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
ok not bad, E class and CLE after the more big body sedans and coupe and C class after the M3 with an I6
BWFTW@reddit
C class I6 is no where close to the same league as an m3. Unless they do a high output 63 i6, which who knows, I doubt it. The 53 is just a soft sporty hybrid, which is cool in its own way.
desf15@reddit
53 in GLC or CLE isn't a hybrid, nor I would expect it to be in C class.
BWFTW@reddit
Your right I definitely was referring to the 48v mild hybrid. Think my brain was just on autopilot since the c63 is a phev and I just thought the 53 was also a phev even though I know it isn't.
Imo I think a tuned up 6 cylinder in the c63 would be cool if done right, but idk if the current 6 cylinder is capable of providing the character and charm needed of an M3 fighter. Honestly the only thing the c63 has vs the M3 is the v8 sound and mildly more comfortable, otherwise the m3 has always been the faster, more performant car.
TechPanzer@reddit
If they kill the name C63 they might as well stop making an AMG C-Class altogether. Absolutely idiotic.
I love Mercedes, it's my favorite brand, but they're so lost it's not even funny.
TotalEmployment9996@reddit
Considering most enthusiasts don’t even believe the c43 is real AMG, yeah they should kill it off probably.
TexasLawStudent@reddit
Product offering aligning with the K-shaped economy, I see.
birdseye-maple@reddit
At least that I6 sounds pretty good, I've been eyeing an E450 for a daily.
joe2105@reddit
As long as they can give it curves like the CLE 53!
desf15@reddit
Yeah, that's how all rumors so far has been as well.
NISMO1968@reddit (OP)
Better late than never, right?
RealisticMost@reddit
Wonder how many C63 with 4c they sold. Saw only one here. The old v8 c63 was all around I would see at least one every day.
MDA123@reddit
Can you imagine the depreciation on those? Sandwiched between two V8 generations.
sequelseize@reddit
gonna be as bad as the GLC43's with the 4-cylinder engines, stuck between two generations with the 6-cylinders.
And if MB somehow comes to their senses and puts more physical controls back in the center, that might make the depreciation even worse.
TechPanzer@reddit
I just want a boxy Merc, full of physical buttons with a M155/M156/M157 paired to a sloshbox.
Doctah_Whoopass@reddit
They're gonna be a really good pick in a few years.
aprtur@reddit
More likely to be sandwiched between a V8 and I-6, but still - guess it'll be the new BHPH lot holder after Maserati Quattroportes dry up.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
I’ve seen maybe 6 in total. I think I’ve seen more of the GLC63 s e
Ferrarisimo@reddit
I’ve seen two in my life. One in my neighborhood in LA, and another in Tokyo.
That’s it.
imperialtrace@reddit
I have yet to see one on the road. The dealership near me has had one on the lot for months.
furrynoy96@reddit
Long live the V8
UmaThurmish@reddit
only rich people gonna be able to afford that. they will put 4 bangers in anything under like 120k.
TotalEmployment9996@reddit
C8 corvette comes mid engine, v8, and hard top convertible for like 70k
UmaThurmish@reddit
am talking about european cars
y-u-gae@reddit
Will we finally get a E63 after 3 years of no successor? Did Mercedes forget about the E63 being a thing?
granolaraisin@reddit
E63 didn’t go because c63 was such a massive failure. E63 was supposed to follow the c63 to hybridization. Once the C63 blew up they had to rethink the entire lineup and started designing a new v8 to carry AMG instead.
y-u-gae@reddit
True i also think the E53 with a inline 6 cylinder hybrid was supposed to make more power and become the enew E63. I mean this gen E53 is built like a E63, wider body besoke bumpers, side skirts etc. which is unheared off on 43 and 53 models. Even the C63 didn't get a wider rear vs the C43.
They probably wanted to call it a E63 first, then realized their mistake too late into the production cyle so they detuned it and called it a E53, my theory lol.
blackreplica@reddit
I don’t want to sound ungrateful but does every new V8 really need to be a turbocharged 4.0
SirLoremIpsum@reddit
They don't need to be a 4.0L but it's just as optimal balance of efficiency/power/thermal as the 2.0L fours and 3.0L sixes and 6.0L V12s. Ford's 1.5L three or 2.0L four in bronco sport etc.
If you're going to be modern it's gonna have turbos. And if you're gonna have turbos you may want to downsize from enormous to "optimal".
Everyone picks it - so there's got to be a good reason to not go with 0.5L per cylinder
DerBootsMann@reddit
yeah , like thick walls and long stroke you can revv up to atmosphere
NISMO1968@reddit (OP)
Do you want naturally aspirated big blocks, or are you up to F1 style small bore sub-3L turbocharged V8s the Formula folks are supposedly bringing back in a couple of years to replace the current hybrid-V6 setup? Just curious…
e8975@reddit
So only available at the 63S trim with absurdly high markups? Meh
Tunerzz@reddit
The 53 was never a V8
GoBSAGo@reddit
What does the G need a new V8 for?
Ferrarisimo@reddit
Picking up two smoothies, duh.
OhFuckNoNoNoMyCaat@reddit
From Erewhon, of course.
We shan't have any of that peasant Whole Foods drivel now can we?
strongmanass@reddit
That's the way the industry has been moving for years. Your Lambo V10 is now a V8, Ferrari and McLaren V8s are now V6s, the Porsche flat 6 became a 4 cyl in the entry 718, V12s are completely gone from mainstream German luxury (only the Maybach S680 retains it), the Bentley W12 is locked behind invite-only 7 figure cars (and orders are closed).
desf15@reddit
This engine has already debuted in non-AMG version in non-AMG models (S580, GLS580). This article is specifically about AMG version of it.
Seeker80@reddit
Shame what happened with the last C63. A 4cyl wouldn't be world-ending, but the problem was making it the top AMG C-Class. I think it might be neat to have a C45 with the A/CLA45 engine as a low-mid level option. The 4cyl and rwd could make for a relatively lightweight & playful model.
The AMG brand was founded based on European muscle and V8s. It needs to stay that way for as long as possible, particularly with the flagships. It was great that they 'downsized' to the 4L V8 and added turbos. They could've gone with a 6cyl like BMW did(comparing M3 & C63), but bless AMG, they made it work. Now they need to prolong the magic.
hamburglar27@reddit
The next gen AMG C-Class likely won't have a V8 either. This new V8 they are developing is rumored to only be for the CLE, E-Class, and higher models.
Most of the rumors say the next gen AMG C-Class will have an I6 engine. My guess is the costs and fleet emissions make it too difficult to offer the V8 in the C-Class again, but at least the I6 should be a big improvement.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
More less à rumour. AMG’s ceo said multiple mid entry cars will get a V8, no word on lower end models lkke the c class getting one.
Seeker80@reddit
Ah, too bad. A 6cyl will still be better. I don't know about the sound part, but even a V6 will do the performance part just fine.
I still like the old W202 C43, even.
costafilh0@reddit
Noice.
Can't wait for the new V12!
UncleDanaWhite@reddit
Let this be a lesson to the bean counters at Mercedes: theres no replacement for displacement! Long live the V8's!
QuinTheReal@reddit
Not the same with GPF/OPF. The peak was 10 years ago
Suspicious-Safety768@reddit
1L eco boost V8 with 4 Real cylinders and every one is separated in 2 virtual cylinders or What? EU law sucks
desf15@reddit
So basically the only new info here is that it will first power SUVs at the end of the year. This would indicate that CLE with V8 will probably debut only after facelift next year.
