This is actually the most exciting car that is rumored to come out in the nearish future with the bleakness of everything turning into an EV crossover. Please give it a manual and I’ll a customer if it looks good and isn’t six figures
BWFTW@reddit
Some of the rumored toyota stuff is super cool. New celica and/or MR2. The GR GT is insanely cool but probably will be priced at like 200k. Also the S-FR may still exist and come out maybe? The new inline 4 they showed off is super cool too.
But I think outside of that I'm with you, if this like a Nissan Z, mk5 supra price than its super cool. I imagine it'll be closer to like 100-150k in reality though honestly. If it's truly in a bespoke platform, that ain't cheap.
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
I worry about pricing because I keep seeing "halo car" thrown around.
KSoMA@reddit
Stellantis shows new Chryslers, Dodges, Hellcats and more to reporters
AndreLeGeant88@reddit
Yeah it makes me worry this will be overpriced relative to performance. Like, will this be a lot more expensive than a Z Nismo, Supra, Vette?
KSoMA@reddit
I would be shocked if this started below a Corvette starting price.
Kryptus@reddit
The Celica and MR2 will definitely piss everyone off with their prices. They wont be affordable.
techieman33@reddit
And hopefully the dealers don’t kill it before it even gets a chance to build a fanbase like they did the new Z. They were all trying to charge $30k+ over sticker and turned off most of the potential buyers. Then by the time the price came down everyone was so disgusted that they refused to even consider it.
partumvir@reddit
As an owner of two FR-S, one turbo’d, I would gladly sell them for the S-FR
LeJuanJames@reddit
celica is DOA unfortunately. i get it, epa standards and all that but they’re doing it no favors with that engine and transmission combo
BWFTW@reddit
Has there been news about this that I missed?
My understanding is that its still up in the air if it'll be hybrid or not, or just have mutlitple engine options. And it seems there is some rumors pointing towards toyota developing a hybrid manual. We know the upcoming Miata NE will be some form of hybrid, even if it's just a MHEV. But that still means mazda is going to have to develope the manual transmission for it. Toyota and Mazda share technology to an extent. So a hybrid celica isn't out of the question.
I know the market case for developing a new manual transmission is really difficult, just look at BMW and porsche. But it's not impossible to justify the business case if mazda and toyota share resources and are putting in cars which the sales data shows have 65% plus manual take rate.
Obviously a lot of wishful thinking on my part, but I still don't think it's impossible.
parker2020@reddit
I think the new WRX STI could be interesting

Hurricane I6?
techieman33@reddit
Not having a V8/10/12 would be a deal killer for the majority of the potential buyers. We saw it 30 years ago with the Prowler and a couple years ago with the Charger. It doesn’t matter if the car has enough horsepower power with a turbo i6. The people buying American sports/muscle cars want at least a V8 and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
Specialist-Size9368@reddit
I wish this sentiment on the prowler would die. The v6 in the prowler is a let down, today. In its time, it made more hp than their v8 and weighed less. chrysler did not bring the hemi back until after the prowler was out. A low power, iron block v8 would have made the car suck.
The v8 would have the right sound. It isn't the killer that the v6 in the xj220 was. The killer with the prowler is, it didn't know what it was. To chrysler it was a technological demonstrator. A follow on to the viper project. The viper was a reincarnation of the shelby cobra. The prowler was just a modern hotrod, but it wasn't.
It had a 4 speed 90's slushbox, so it didn't cater to the performance crowd. It didn't have a useable trunk so it didn't cater to anyone who wanted to drive it for more than just a parade. If they had made the trunk a useable thing so it could fit golf clubs or some luggage for a weekend trip old people would have bought it as a toy. They didn't. If they had given it a manual and gone for sporty, it would have competed with the viper, which they didn't want. The prowler uses a transaxle and chrysler only put up the money to make one transmission and they went automatic.
The howler concept which did have a v8, also had a real trunk. In an ideal world they would have waited a few years after the viper to start on the prowler, had the hemi, but it would have still failed. No trunk means no useability. No manual means no sporting intent. Also, had they waited Chip Foose wouldn't have been in college and the design for the prowler would have been by someone else.
Kryptus@reddit
I wish they would engineer a new lower displacement efficient V8 that they could use in smaller applications and still meet gov regulations. Like a 4.3l that gets over 20mpg.

You raise a good point; there hasn't been a Chrysler turbine car for a long time now. Perhaps it is time for them to revisit the concept.

Didn’t the Jaguar XJ220 have essentially two V6 together?

I always wanted them to join two Pentastar V6s at the crank and put it in a revival Chrysler Imperial.

Better! 4.8 W12 made up from 4 PureTechs XDDDD

Them taping 2 of those together to make a V12 and dropping it in a new Viper has been a distant dream for me since the Hurricane dropped, so don't threaten me with a good time.
USS-Hellcat@reddit
The Hurricane crate engines have tow options - Cat1 and Cat3 (yes, based on Hurricane categories). Cat1 is the standard, and Cat3 is the HO. There were rumors a while back there was going to be a Cat5.
ItsyaboiIida@reddit
Yeah. Use both power levels. One for a mid tier and the other for the top spec.

Give it a long hood like a Viper and slap the inline 6 with 550 HP in there for the top trim.

good the charger platform sucks
andrewia@reddit
It's a boring, adequate EV platform. And incredibly stupid that they just replaced the battery with hollow bracing for the ICE version. Between this and the new Fiat 500 mild hybrid, Stellantis is doing some slapdash jobs retrofitting engines into EV platforms.
FMJoey325@reddit
I cannot believe there are people out there that buy cars that were not thought through and well developed. It doesn’t take but a google search to come across a world of reviews and forums. I do not understand how you could rock up to a dealership and drop tens of thousands of dollars without really knowing what you’re getting!
phdiesel_@reddit
I lease one because it was staggeringly cheap when I did. At the time I leased mine, dealer employees were being offered 10,000 miles per year, $106 per month, with only first payment due at signing….just to get them off of lots.
It is, predictably, a boat anchor. An almost unhinged piece of junk. The thing is, if it wasn’t for the myriad of software issues it would be genuinely fine. But I knew what I was getting into.
techieman33@reddit
The majority of people just don’t care. And even if they do some research they don’t have the underlying knowledge to really understand what they’re reading.
ItsyaboiIida@reddit
They could pull a z4 and have a turbo 4 as the base engine and the turbo I6 as the top spec engine.

Turbo I4 base, I6 mid, I8 top spec

If the rumour spreads enough they will need to make an I8 engine.

Hopefully a mid engine AWD supercharged 8.3L V10 with an electric motor for the front drive.
zx10r_tomahawk@reddit
I'm cool with it having a motor smaller than a V8 if it's going to go after cars like the Miata, but if it's going to be a halo world beater that's going after the Z06 and similar, it's going to need a V8 or V10 or it's not going to popular outside of this sub.

Plus_Fox9063@reddit
who remembers this in gran turismo?
NoctD@reddit
Its giving me more Prowler vibes, not a droptop Viper. And the engine choice would just add more Prowler likeness into the mix.
BWFTW@reddit
Would be cool to see this with different engine options at different price points honestly. A cheaper I6 version would be awesome alongside a more expensive hemi srt. Depending on the platform/weight may also have the option of an even lower trim I4, which could be absolutely awesome.
Imagine if the platform is 3500 pounds with options for a hurricane I4 uptuned to 350hp, I6 at 550hp, and hellcat v8 at 777. That would be a really cool and accessible enthusiast car.
IMO, the correct lesson to learn from the 911 is that if you build a really good platform as a foundation you can then segment it across a huge price range and aim it at many different types of target markets. This is basically what ford learned with the mustang. Multiple different motor options and price options, but actual care put into it so they all feel cool or special, rather than just decontented. IE stuff like the highoutput 2.3 with performance package and the new RTR ecoboost. Yes it's the base motor but it's still a very cool and compelling package for enthusiasts at a relatively lower price point, similar to the 911T.
I'm a big fan of cool looking cars and fun cars not being gate kept behind cost or a big motor. Everyone should have the option to buy a cool fun car at different prices. That's how new enthusiasts are made.
Vhozite@reddit
Dodge themselves were just doing this a few years ago with the Charger and Challenger. $30k base trim SXT all the way to the special editions, demons, etc. Those cars had like 10 different trims with like 4 different engine options.
BWFTW@reddit
Absolutely true, and I love that they did that. I know a lot of people who started out in cars by getting v6 challengers before moving onto other stuff.
I do wish they did something more special, like a v6 performance package. Idk maybe there wasn't more to be done. Though you could get AWD with the V6 only which was cool, even if it was short lived.
Shit-throwing-monkey@reddit
It looks crosseyed.

Confirmed 18 cylinder radial.
They found a fresh batch of Wright R-3350 Duplex Cyclones to put in a sports car.
Tuxedo_Muffin@reddit
95/05 weight distribution, but I swear it feels more like 90/10 under load
Whiteyak5@reddit
We don't need weight distribution where we're going with a wright cyclone!
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
The only platform realistically would be the Giorgio (Giulia's platform) right? And if it's not a version of the current Hemi family, I think it's only got a chance if it's some upcoming V-6. The Charger-Hurricane debacle controversy would just spill over to this car, which is presumably rather large if the media who saw it are suggesting the Charger was its basis.
And if it ends up being a smaller, more proper sports car, it sounds like it'd be in the vicinity of Corvette pricing, which again, without at least eight cylinders looks awfully risky.
Pretty excited to see what it ends up being.

V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
It doesn't mention to come with V10, so it won't be a renamed Viper neither.
Yea, it's also considered heavy too, as it's a large sedan chassis. If you want a real sports car, you need to give a real sports car chassis.
So, that platform could be designed and build by Alfa and Maserati. Both Italians are most possible to make sports car chassis in the group.
Make sense, American and Italians can share this sports car platform to built their own. We can highly sure a upscale Copperhead from Alfa and Maserati, and we even could see Peugeot would receive that sports car platform too if they interest.
BWFTW@reddit
The Giulia platform definitely has the potential to make an amazing 2 door sports car. I'll never forgive alfa for not making it after teasing it for years haha. Might be outdated though. I'm weirdly optimistic that stelantis / srt will give us something special.
Imeatbag@reddit
Giorgio chassis with dodge styling. Turbo charged 4 for the base model and the V6 for the expensive version. They literally just need to make a 2 door giulia with a dodge front end and call it a day.
RiftHunter4@reddit
If it's a reasonably sized and priced sports coupe, I'd be happy. But it's Dodge, so I don't have much hope.
Killahdanks1@reddit
Interesting looking car that has a motor people don’t want under the Dodge banner? I think I’ve heard this one before.

FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
Said this before but mad respect to dodge for not cashing in and calling it the viper because they knew the viper NEEDED to be V10 so when making they knew the V10 wasn't possible so they called it the copperhead like a baby viper. It owuld be cool for this to have its own purpose built engine
mgobla@reddit
The best choice would be to base it on the same platform as Alfa Giulia / Maserati GranTurismo, most underrated platform ever. Brilliant chassis, very light by modern standards , Nettuno V6 engine. But I am sure they won't make the right choice and use a much heavier, worse handling chassis instead...
BWFTW@reddit
I think if we got the giulia qf manual in north America it would have a lot more credit with enthusiasts.
From what I understand you get a more connected, fun, and raw driving experience than you would in an M3. And its substantially lighter. But than the M3 comes with a manual, which leaves it in kind of this weird area in the north American market. Like who is this far now? It's for the person who wants a slower, more fun, more hardcore m3, but with an automatic? Just didn't make sense to me. And I imagine sales reflected that.
All the weirder because they made a manual giulia for Europe and had all the sales data showing that these types of manual luxury sedans / coupes sell dispraportionetely well in North America.
killshelter@reddit
If they put the hurricane in a roadster that would be sick.
