What is the best UK supermarket for flowers?

If my only experience of expensive restaurants was average food, I wouldn’t rush to try more. I’d stick to more affordable options.

If I had experienced bad haircuts at a number of very expensive salons I wouldn’t be encouraged to keep trying more. I’d just go back to using the more affordable options.

Not true. I have used a few very well recommended florists to send flowers and they have turned up looking nothing like the picture. Cheap fillers, sparse and expensive. Never again.

How is anyone affording kids?

Posted by Ok-Release1923@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 59 comments

KitFan2020@reddit

Good question! Depends entirely on outgoings v income. How much is your mortgage for example? 70K income - Ā£4200ish a month after tax? Childcare for 1 can be up to 1k a month on average. With a low mortgage, perfectly affordable. With a high mortgage 2.5-3k… completely unaffordable.

What would you do with your time if you earned your current salary, but didn't have to work for it?

Posted by PaddedValls@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 186 comments

KitFan2020@reddit

My current salary? Not a lot tbh. I’d save spending money on work clothes and petrol but wouldn’t be able to afford to travel the world or anything like that. I’d see more of family and friends, have people over to stay, go on lots of day trips, probably eat a lot more food, make stuff, keep garden looking good, grow stuff…

What are your thoughts on dogs in restaurants/cafes?

Posted by BurnsyWurnsy@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 850 comments

KitFan2020@reddit

I don’t mind if a bar/pub/restaurant is divided up (a section where dogs are allowed and a section where dogs are not allowed) I can sit in the area where they are not. Really dislike seeing dogs in clothes shops. Brushing up against the clothes on sale. Places like John Lewis or Waterstones also attract people with dogs for some reason. I was in one place where a dog had had an ā€˜accident’. The shop staff were cleaning it up. Absolutely vile.

Single people with no WFH - how do you manage to do it all?

KitFan2020@reddit

Declutter, have a minimalist wardrobe and an organised living space. Have a strict routine. Certain days for different jobs. Make use of cleaning services, dry cleaners etc. Pay to have your hair, nails, feet, skin looked after. Cook very simple meals that you can batch cook and freeze.

Yes! (This is from many years ago) When my Dad returned home from work in the middle of the day feeling ill, the GP was called. As soon as he heard what the symptoms were, the GP drove to the house, called an Ambulance and gave CPR. The surgery was about 5 mins drive away. My Dad was having a heart attack and the GP saved his life.

Does the stereotype about our teeth being bad bother you?

Posted by Xathule96@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 442 comments

KitFan2020@reddit

Not really. My Grandparents (and everyone else I knew of their generation) all had false teeth because their own teeth were rotten. The big white veneers nowadays look false because they are false. Nice teeth look good but the massive white ones people are having put in look awful.

When does "kids being kids" cross into something more concerning?

Posted by butters786@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 133 comments

KitFan2020@reddit

Nasty kids have always existed. Same kind of behaviour you describe. The difference between now and 40 years ago (when I was young) is that they are now ā€˜braver’ and are pretty much invincible. An adult would have stepped in back then. Probably with a crack round the head or (on the ride) dragged off by the scruff of their neck.

KitFan2020@reddit

Oh my God yes. My periods were horrendous for years. Unbelievably painful and there is no way I would have been able to work through it. Stabbing pain in abdomen, shooting pains down legs, nausea and headache. When I say stabbing, I really do mean it felt like I was being stabbed - and the knife being twisted. It was horrific.
