I hope their customer service has improved since I had to deal with them a few years back.
Pedantichrist@reddit
That is mould.
I’d take a partial refund and wipe it down, but you really ought to insist on a replacement.
de-tree-fiddy@reddit
A replacement is going to be stored in the same place in the same warehouse, I'd just get a refund and go elsewhere.
clearlylegallyblind@reddit
I use to work complaints in a furniture company.
You'd be surprised tbf these tend to be 1 off cases where it got damp during transit from supplier etc so rest of batch not affected.
Although that isn't to say the company don't need to complete some thorough checks to be sure.
To op raise it as a health concern, they will have to treat it as a safety case which can make the turn around a priority for them.
SarkyMs@reddit
That's would be damp not mould .
Kooky-Investment8537@reddit
Pedants are so often the dumbest people in the room
PrawnFresh69@reddit
It's always to solidify a shit point too.
clearlylegallyblind@reddit
Damp conditions can lead to mould
Pleasant-Doctor-5711@reddit
New bed shouldn’t come with ecosystem growth.
ElectricalAd3421@reddit
Mold or mildew at the very least. Def don’t bring that into your house
Typical_Peanut3413@reddit
Return it,That's definitely mouldy
No-Intern-3666@reddit
Mould yes, I’ll admit it’s a slight concern
ViscountGris@reddit
Most definitely mould (in the British English spelling). It may be surface level only and able to be removed and dried out or it might be deeper and will leave a stubborn smell and / or continue to grow. Either way it isn’t your issue. Get a replacement or refund.
SooperSte@reddit (OP)
mortified that I didn't catch that spelling! I've contacted them and arranged a replacement. thanks 😄
_Blueshift@reddit
Inspect the replacement extra carefully as it will be from the same storage unit as the original. It's likely this isn't a one-off.
Pankratous@reddit
I can only imagine how frustrating this is. Beds take ages to get delivered.

A top level comment (one that is not a reply) should be a good faith and genuine attempt to answer the question

refund and show the photos, they've not stored this properly which is what has caused the mould
Mediocre-Smile5908@reddit
Looks like that's been stored in a damp warehouse or where the roof leaked.
HistoryDangerous7301@reddit
Had exactly the same issue with a bed from them a couple of years ago. It arrived damp and mouldy, much like the one in your photo. They collected it and then delivered the exact same bed 2 weeks later. Ended up getting a refund and buying elsewhere. Hopefully you won't experience the same issue, just making you aware!

Definitely mould. They should have mould prevention in the packaging such as silica gel or micropac.
100% this is grounds for a full replacement or refund.

Replacement is the way. Don't want to be breathing in spores all night for the rest of the life of the mattress.
Longjumping_Deal8919@reddit
Definitely mould, I had the same experience recently from Dreams. Delivery crew noticed it when unboxing it and decided not to install as it had mould. Gotta credit their honesty and professionalism that they shared it with me even though I wasn’t in the bedroom. Raise a complaint, it’s a health hazard and do mention that to Bensons customer care
Whoppa-seagull@reddit
Yes that looks like mould, totally unacceptable!!
heyvoteforpedro@reddit
Mouldy mould mould

Looks like those "mould" from damp. Best thing to do get portable heater and switch it on in the room as bed for many hours.
Cleaning with a rag may also help.
Dazz316@reddit
Fuck that, it's brand new and delivered. Don't deal with what could be returning mould. Get a new one.
randomguuid@reddit
I'd get that out of the house and cover it over until they pick it up. Mouldy.
Kiwizoo@reddit
Yeah give them a call. You can’t sleep on that.
DangerousDisplay7664@reddit
Looks like mould
F0rthel0ve0fd0gs@reddit
That looks like mould. Complain and send it back.
No_Advantage5750@reddit
Previously worked in a warehouse. It's been in storage for a while and it's minor mould.
Still not acceptable and they'll deffo refund it
Amazing-Jury-6886@reddit
Looks like mould. Send it back.
Easily-Elated@reddit
Mold, get a refund and purchase from somewhere else
Hey_its_chunky@reddit
Like everyone else is saying, that is definitely mould, get in contact with them immediately and hopefully they'll issue either a refund or a new non mouldy bed
Wild-Individual6876@reddit
Mould. Get it replaced
TurbulentHamster3418@reddit
Get it out of your house immediately before it gets elsewhere. Call & ask for a manager & get them to pick it up asap, not your problem.
clearlylegallyblind@reddit
Better to raise it as a health concern than request a manager call back as they tend to add time to the resolution, reporting a health concern around the product would have it handled by a safety trained advisor.
morbidcuriosity123@reddit
Same as everyone else.. mould. Get them to exchange it quickly.
Then_Steak_1873@reddit
As someone who worked in a warehouse where stock often gets wet, left to dry and then stored for a long time, I would definitely be returning on the base this is probably mould
dinnae-fash@reddit
Yes it’s mould. You don’t want this in your house. Contact them and get them to replace it.
Ok_Victory_2977@reddit
That's mould for sure.. you definitely don't want that already breeding in your bed. Call them and get a replacement lovely 🫶🏻
Snaggl3t00t4@reddit
Mould.....
TomLondra@reddit
Wherever they are storing their beds is damp and cold. Probably hundreds of beds are affected. If Benson's have multiple units from the same batch, it would be reasonable for them to check that stock and possibly quarantine it.
Any_Beginning_6705@reddit
If in any doubt, get rid of it. Mould getting into your lungs can be very difficult to get rid of once it's in there! Just not worth the risk
OkTechnician4610@reddit
Yuck thats mould I would be wanting a replacement asap the spores will be in the bed already.
mikeossy80@reddit
That's mould
Not_Depressed_zzz@reddit
Considering how much they charge yes…
TachiH@reddit
As others have said, mould that will just spread. Wrap it back up in the massive plastic sheet if you can, they can really upset your lungs if you breathe it in a lot over a few days.
tmr89@reddit
Looks like mould to me
Cheap_Preparation454@reddit
That's terrible hope you get this sorted.
ProfessionTrue8117@reddit
As someone that lived in poverty all throughout their childhood in rented houses filled with mould. I only needed a second to recognise it. Get rid of this bed before it fucks up all your furniture and walls
simateix@reddit
Yes absolutely! Do not sleep on that
JustAnAnimeGirly@reddit
That's 100% mold
Bounce_Bounce_Betty@reddit
That’s mould. Get a replacement. The spores are so bad for your health and if there’s spores already in the bed you’ll keep seeing the mould reappear.
firthy@reddit
Yarp - send that back
rlyfckd@reddit
Yep, looks like mould. I would be concerned
avemango@reddit
Mould
PorkAmbassador@reddit
Definitely mould, show them these pictures and get a replacement.
Andries89@reddit
Yeah that's mould
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Looks fucked mate
Tooexforbee@reddit
That is 100% mold. I'd get in contact with them and get them to replace it.
secretlycenedra@reddit
That looks an awful lot like mould to me I’m afraid.
