That is 100% mold. I'd get in contact with them and get them to replace it.

Whenever drive near that place and see the different names on the road signs I always imagine some english dude 100s of years ago learning about Yr Wyddgrug, pausing to think about that for a second, and then saying, "No. That won't do. We'll just call it 'Mold'" Im sure that isn't how it happened but you can just imagine it can't you!

I use to work complaints in a furniture company. You'd be surprised tbf these tend to be 1 off cases where it got damp during transit from supplier etc so rest of batch not affected. Although that isn't to say the company don't need to complete some thorough checks to be sure. To op raise it as a health concern, they will have to treat it as a safety case which can make the turn around a priority for them.
View on Reddit #85310127

deprevino@reddit

I've been in a room with moderate water damage where one piece of furniture was moldy and the piece next to it was totally fine.

If the customer service team are friendly and helpful I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and give them the chance to make it right. At the very least this will have made two journeys before it arrived with the customer and could have become damp anywhere along the line.

Send it back. I took an expensive mattress delivery once and it had some marks on the material. A year later and it turned out that it was infested with clothes moths. The moths lived inside and the grubs ate their way out. Had to bin the mattress. Too late to return.

My mam ordered a new mattress from Bensons a few years ago, when it came it was absolutely soaking wet (delivery driver didn't know how??) and asked if she still wanted it. Of course she said no and rang customer services who couldn't have been any more unhelpful and basically told her tough shit they'll refund her. Unfortunately the mattress it was replacing had been took to the tip so my poor frail nana had no where to sleep for the night

Most definitely mould (in the British English spelling). It may be surface level only and able to be removed and dried out or it might be deeper and will leave a stubborn smell and / or continue to grow. Either way it isn’t your issue. Get a replacement or refund.

Had exactly the same issue with a bed from them a couple of years ago. It arrived damp and mouldy, much like the one in your photo. Better to raise it as a health concern than request a manager call back as they tend to add time to the resolution, reporting a health concern around the product would have it handled by a safety trained advisor.
