What changes work well for you within your diet plan when trying to lose weight?

Counting calories is absolutely essential. I also split my calories in to areas of the day. So for example I can eat 50% of my calories before 5pm and 50% after. This stops me overeating earlier in the day. Then just making better food choices. If I’m out with the kids and everyone wants ice cream, I get a lolly as it’s half (or less) the calories of ice cream. I’ve brought some protein bars for home for when I want a snack as protein fills you up better than crisps or a Kit Kat or whatever.

Stabbings are rare but if you find them online and engage with it then you will get served more of them to view. There’s no stabbing epidemic or anything like that and the majority of stabbing and violence are still gang related anyway.

Do you think gyms should have a women's only section?

Posted by kcon123@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 221 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

Like I said, it’s pandering to the minority but affecting everyone. Let’s say the gyms membership is 50/50 and let’s say two thirds of the women feel uncomfortable at the gym which I think is a reasonable estimate. So that’s 33% of gym members affected and changes are made that affect 100% of the clientele.

How should I go about contacting NHS interview panel before interview?

Posted by Additional-Cause-887@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 38 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

I’ve never heard of people contacting an interview panel beforehand, it seems quite bizarre to me. To be honest I would disregard that. It sounds like poor feedback. Research the role as best you can based on the job description and maybe some research on the particular hospital (or wherever) you may be working and that should be enough.

As an avid gym-goer - this is a terrible idea. You’re limiting everyone’s gym experience with less equipment and smaller space. You’re punishing the masses for the minority.

No you’re not a snob. I do have to question though if that much stuff you brought has broken, maybe you’re just too rough with things as we’ve brought from B&M for years and don’t have a list half this long.

Ask them directly. If you don’t get it back go to the head of the company as there’s no HR. It’s both stealing and potential discrimination. The head of the company would take immediate action rather than risk a lawsuit.

When is the right time to go back to work after losing a parent?

Posted by Toe_Bean_Bandit@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 235 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

It varies per person. When I lost a parent I only took four days off as I wanted to stay busy and not dwell on it more than I needed to. Everyone is different but I imagine if I had taken six weeks off it would have all felt much worse as I would have been focused on it for such a long period. Take some time to work out what’s best for you going forward and for you to feel like you are recovering.

What's the etiquette for the priority bus seats?

Posted by ScaryButt@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 228 comments

I wouldn’t never sit there if other seats are available. Some people will feel uncomfortable asking for the seat even if they need it, they may have an invisibility disability or another problem they’re not happy to highlight by asking a stranger for their seat.

Posted by _speedy@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 35 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

If something is reported on regularly it loses its impact so it will come across as “boring” and not capture people’s intrigue or interest so I agree with your colleague. But realistically if there’s no other stories then what’s the alternative?

Men of the UK. If you woke up to a country where about a quarter of men dressed “smart” all the time would you join in? (Details below).

Posted by MonsieurGump@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 79 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

Hell no. While I’d agree they would look smarter, the idea of dressing smart all the time just lessens its impact. Why should I dress like that to go to the supermarket or do the school run? Then there’s the practicality issues of the outfit being too hot, more washing etc… and it will ultimately be less comfortable than some modern alternatives too. It’s just not worth it.

Thinking of reporting manager to HR but not entirely sure if that is the correct decision?

Posted by AlonePumpkin1945@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 14 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

I completely understand you feel like you’ve beeen treated badly because you have. It’s a managers job to support their staff and give them feedback and coaching/mentoring etc.. However, what do you expect HR to do? They will tell your manager that they need to provide more feedback when required and that’s probably it. By all means you can report it but don’t expect anything to suddenly drastically change. You will still be in the position you are now. You said you have a list of areas you do and don’t know how to do - use those areas you don’t know to setup your own training or directly say to your manager “who can help me learn X” to try and push things forward yourself.

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

How social media works and affects what people see. It amazes me how many people still don’t understand that it feeds people topics they’ve shown interest in before and is not a broad range of views. Equally how many people don’t know that any engagement with a post will generate more posts like it to them and to the world. Documentaries like The Social Dilemma on Netflix go in to it really well detailing how they measure how long you stop scrolling when certain topics are on your phone and how they can send repeated inflammatory topics to someone just because they got it in their algorithm. More people need to understand how it works and why.

What does the UK think of Michael Barrymore?

Posted by idreamofcuba@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 340 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

You’ve taken 2+2 and gotten 10 with some of these statements. Stuart Lubbock did not did from “anal injuries”, he drowned. This was at a party at Michael Barrymores house though. Michael Barrymore was never charged with murder or anything like that. He was arrested and questioned but not charged. Barrymore later sued the police for wrongful arrest and won, he was to be paid out a “nominal fee” but he ended up withdrawing his case (for some reason). The most likely scenario is Barrymore threw big extravagant drug fuelled parties with a lot of gay men around where they all got drunk and fooled about. At one of these parties someone unfortunately died and the media latched on to Barrymore as he was the host and the celebrity, effectively ending his career, but as I said above - he was never actually charged and never had to go to trial because there was no evidence he did anything more than get drunk/high and fool around, just like everyone at the party.

Is it illegally for my neighbours to have loud sex whilst their children are in the house?

Posted by Smidday90@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 24 comments

Firstly, they’re not 13 they’re 10 at most so may well not even know what’s going on. Secondly, no it’s not upsetting that my parents are enjoying some time together. Maybe a little award but not upsetting. Thirdly, why are you assuming I’m a woman? Lastly, yes I would sleep with my partner when the kids are in because at that age they’re with us basically all the time we’re at home. Are we supposed to be celibate until they move out? I’d be quieter than these people seem to be but not avoid it entirely.

Do you ever feel jealous of American salaries?

Posted by Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 89 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

No because it’s not that simple. $100k for example is £74k currently so it already sounds a lot less. Food is more expensive in America. You have to have private healthcare or pay a fortune for any treatment. Eating out is more expensive due to tipping culture. Childcare is more expensive in the US. And on top of this from a job perspective, the expectation in the US is that you work more hours and work harder than most UK companies.

Do people actually use AI day-to-day, or is it all hype?

Posted by 2butterfree@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1668 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

I use AI a lot for just general queries and questions. For example today I was trying to find a toy my kid wanted so I uploaded some photos and links to sites where it was out of stock and it did the leg work for me. A few days ago I needed to buy a new bit of plumbing for the kitchen sink but didn’t know the name of that part so got it from AI. I also used it to solve a problem I had on Excel. It’s all things I can find online myself but it’s just a lot faster and easier going via AI.

Is anyone really scared about AI job losses?

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

Of course. The thing is, it’s not imminent like some people try to claim. It’s a bit further away but it’s coming. Not all roles will disappear but for example. H immediate team of 5 people are already seeing tools being made that drastically simplify our jobs (when they work reliably) so in 10 years or so we won’t need 5 people anymore, only 2-3. It won’t replace all roles and it won’t do it soon, but it’s happening.

Would you leave a role on your cv/linkedin if you didn’t pass probation?

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

Include it but put a reason why you left so early. “Left due to change in personal circumstances” or “left due to company headcount reduction” or “left as role was not as advertised” etc…

EDITED - Formatting. 1. I’m assuming you have no accountability? You’ve shown no accountability. You made a mistake. Instead of owning it you’ve complained, appealed, got rejected and are now posting about it online to try and find another way out. 2. A “forced repercussion” is a strange phrase to explain breaking a rule. If I hit someone with my car and get arrested would you also describe that as a “forced repercussion”? 3. I’m not sticking up for a large company. I don’t care if X Parking Company makes money or not I simply told you that you broke the rules, because you did. I don’t like people who break rules then try their hardest to worm their way out of it. A lot of people in society these days lack accountability for their actions. “There’s not a single reminder and the machine is tucked away!” Excuses from the get go. Anyway, we can debate this all day but neither of us are going to change our tune so let’s save ourselves some time and move on shall we.

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

You broke the rules. What is there to appeal? It’s not PureGyms job to remind you to put your reg in. Also a lot of times the car park outside a pure gym isn’t actually owned by them so it makes no sense in contacting them either. You broke the rules, accidentally but you did, take your medicine and pay the fine.

I had a season ticket at my local club for a few years and always went on my own. Sometimes I wish I had someone to chat to but most the time I really enjoyed it. You can switch off from everything and everyone and just concentrate on the game. You don’t have to make small talk or listen to others, you can just watch football. Do it.

Do you think over exposure to Screen time for children is impacting the Uk education standards?

Posted by WearingMarcus@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 145 comments

RainbowPenguin1000@reddit

I think “screen time” is too broad a term. For example my 8yr old comes home from school and 2-3 times a week goes straight on to my old laptop but they play the learning games on their school website so they are doing math and spelling. Then on the other side their cousin comes home, grabs their tablet and just watches YouTube every day. So “screen time” itself isn’t necessarily bad it’s what they do with it.
