I’d spell it Renée if I were you (pronounced Ren-ay) because Renie will only ever seem like indigestion tablets!

Normal-Height-8577@reddit

Either that, or call her Irene, and use Renie (pronounced Ree-nee) as a nickname.

blurredlynes@reddit

At least spell it Renée like it should be spelt, and not like indigestion tablets.

AstronomerFickle4823@reddit

Yes, and I would pronounce it “Ren-ay”

I did know someone (in London, born probably around 1920-1925ish?) who pronounced it Ree-knee, spelled that way. But mostly you are right and that is what I’d assume.

Yes, I had a Great Aunty Renée, pronounce ree-nee. She would have been born around 1900-1910 in Kent or London.

I'm not sure how it was actually spelt in this case but I'm afraid the first thing that came to my mind when I read this was Alf Roberts' wife in Coronation Street. In that case it was pronounced "Ree-nee".
View on Reddit #85812492

dancingcroc@reddit

I would pronounce it ree-nee. In Scotland the name (albeit slightly different spelling) is pretty heavily associated with the Renee Macrae murders
View on Reddit #85812083

FloofyRaptor@reddit

My Nan's best friend was a Renee, pronounced "Ree-knee". It might be a better spelling because it looks less like Rennie.

ThinkIshatmyself@reddit

Love the name. I'd pronounce it Ren-ey, but I'm northan as fuck.
View on Reddit #85812005

awesome2701@reddit

It is a French name, so should be with the accent - Renée. I speak French, so pronounce it Ruh-nay with emphasis on the nay. Ren-ay is also acceptable in English speaking countries.
View on Reddit #85811977

rocketscientology@reddit

And her brother Gav, short for Gaviscon.
View on Reddit #85811976

Kitty-Gecko@reddit

OP if you are deadset on the name and want people to pronounce it Ren-ay then I'd probably spell it Renee. If you want people to pronounce it Ree-knee then choose a different spelling, maybe Reanie or Reenie, to sound like beanie? Current spelling will indeed lead to people pronouncing it "Renny" like "kenny" and make them think of indigestion tablets.

No. Big no. Looks like Rennie. Everyone knows that a tablet.

I’ve heard older ladies called Irene using Renie pronounced Ree-nee.

Renie, like the tablets. There is a Renée however one of my nieces primary schools. I would say, dont give a child a name that they will spend forever correcting people how to say it. It gets exhausting.

If it’s ’Ree-nee’ I’d assume it was short for Irene.

The fact I've never seen the name spelled that way gives me pause. Renée (as in Renée Zelwegger) is the main conventional spelling I'm aware of, and pronounced Ren-ay or Ren-eh Rennie is right out, nobody wants to be named after indigestion tablets :P

I’d assume Ree-Nee and that is was short for Irene or Katerina or something like that. It does make a cute nickname I think.

The only I Renie I know is a very disturbed teenager who was a classmate of my daughter. We found out he was encouraging teenage girls to harm themselves for him on Instagram. Kind of put me of the name after that

Decalvare_Scriptor@reddit

Probably Ren-ee, unless I stop and think and then maybe Ree-nee. Reenie is an old fashioned nickname for people called Irene, Doreen, or Maureen. If that's the pronounciation you are thinking of then maybe add in the extra E. If you stick with Renie then I imagine a lot of people would pronounce it Ren-ay, and people of a certain age will make jokes about Allo Allo.
View on Reddit #85811287

ProfPMJ-123@reddit

I'd prononuce it Ree-nee, because a Dutch friend of mine is called Renie, and she pronounces her own name Ree-nee.

If you're not French, I wouldn't be considering it. If you can't be sure how to pronounce it - don't consider it. If you don't want your daughter to be subjected to Allo Allo quotes - don't consider it
View on Reddit #85810943

auntie_eggma@reddit

So you decided on a spelling before you decided on a pronunciation? Anyway you're naming your kid an indigestion tablet. Don't do that.
View on Reddit #85810902

fourlegsfaster@reddit

This makes me think of an elderly relative called Irene, pronounced eyereen, who everyone called Reenee. Where does Renie come from, what attachment do you have to it? My advice is to choose a name that won't have people questioning how it is spelt or pronounced all your daughter's life, yes, a lot of names get questioned, but some less than others.

I read it as Ren-ee but I know Rennies are also pronounced that way, so it’s whether you wanted it like the heartburn medication. Ree-nee would be cute though!
