High school graduation parties…

My grad party was a banger. Graduated in 96. Mom was pretty much drunk 90% of the day most days. Hooked up 3kegs and a pig. We had it at the lake started at 12 on Saturday. People were still there Monday morning. Ended up with about $3500 and a new/used car.

Almost every stereotype is for the suburban GenX'rs. Rural and urban GenX'rs had different shared experiences.

Throughout the 80's and 90's I was in a rural area then back to the city. (Parents divorced) We were poor AF but my mom certainly would not act like it. She made sure we had cable. I was 3 when MTV first aired and my mom got me out of bed to watch Video killed the radio star. Mom had a pretty decent drinking problem my whole life and she always made sure even tho she was messed up that we didn't miss out on certain things. I got mad at her drinking problem and moved in with my dad in the city and it was the right move but we didn't get cable for a year or so after I moved in with him. But being in the city there was so much other stuff to do so it didn't really matter.

Awww that is a shame! I live about a half hour from the closest McDonald's but I have actually made the trip hungover in the past. When they started having breakfast all day I thought it was awesome but living so far away really hinders that whole situation. I don't drink anymore and only eat at McDonald's maybe once a year and that's a big maybe.

96 HS graduate here and the only time I've heard of anything like this is when my Boomer father tells me about about having to swim naked in gym class in the 7th grade 66-67 I Believe. Everytime he tells me that story I just have had a hard time believing it...until now. But it never happened to me and like I said this was the late 60's and he said it was a thing.

That's legit. I honestly think there is nothing better than when the sun is going down on the lake in the summer and the loons start going loony for a good hour. It is so damn peaceful to me.

Almost the same thing happened to me yesterday morning. I was sitting in my living room watching the morning news, sipping coffee and smoking a joint when I noticed the most vibrant blue jay I've ever seen and thought to myself how stunning is that bird? I said the same thing to myself. I am officially old.

Nobody prepared me for this part of middle age ... Still needing my Mom

My mom died in 2012 (55 pneumonia) and if she were still around and I needed help financially she probably wouldn't be able to help me. However, my brother and I were incredibly stressed out when she died trying to figure out how to pay for we everything but the family pitched in and about 2 weeks after she died we got notified she had a life insurance policy and my brother and I were her beneficiaries. I honestly couldn't believe she had one. She was a raging alcoholic and drug abuser my whole life and I straight up told her once in My 20's if she was gonna abuse herself this badly to donus a favor and make sure she has a policy so we wouldn't have to clean up her mess (again). My brother and I both got a decent payout and I honestly felt like it was the one thing she felt she could do that would help our futures. It did not replace her in any way shape or form and I miss her crazy phone calls and just knowing I could talk to her about anything. ANYTHING. she would be right there with encouragement and some nasty jokes. I miss her every day.

I miss the 90's. Life was great not being teathered to a cell phone and actually anticipation of messages when you get home weather they be good or bad at least you still had the time to say "I haven't checked my messages yet" and with thole tracking cell phones and people can just automatically know where you are is kind of insane.

The opening credits/intro was so bizarre. The Childrens Television Sausage Factory. They went into a meat grinder, onto a conveyer belt then out a faucet into a bus to the studio! It still gives me nightmares.
