Just saw this in a different sub. This is the age of each member
Worth_Fondant3883@reddit
Wow, I can't believe Petty was only in his late 30's but TBH, they all seemed old as when I was a young fella (born 68). What a genuine tragedy that Roy only made it to that age.
Mutt45@reddit
Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan still alive and kicking
lambent_ort@reddit
Not sure about kicking but pretty sure Bob will outlive us all.
Worth_Fondant3883@reddit
Yeah, was going to add that, only 2 left.
waveydavey321@reddit
I'm gonna see all these guys at "The End of the Line."
TowerOfSisyphus@reddit
Well it's all right. I'm doing the best I can (50).
root_fifth_octave@reddit
Did this band really have George Harrison and Bob Dylan?
Ok_Entrepreneur_8509@reddit
I have had multiple conversations with people who flat out didn't believe me when I said all of these guys were in a band together.
root_fifth_octave@reddit
It’s tripping me out. I just remember Petty and Orbison in that.
InsertRadnamehere@reddit
Found the Millenial!
root_fifth_octave@reddit
The fun thing about being late Gen X is being called a millennial and a boomer
UmbertoEcoTheDolphin@reddit
Yes.
root_fifth_octave@reddit
That’s pretty wild. Tough to overestimate what a talent just Bob Dylan is.
evidentlynaught@reddit
That’s Tweeter and the Monkey Man
Sea-Homework1991@reddit
This song was written as a sort of parody of Springsteen songs.
tabicat1874@reddit
They made two great albums
gemma-digger@reddit
They were so good. They are on my Spotify now, so still in rotation for me.
SixAndNine75@reddit
Yes
root_fifth_octave@reddit
Crazy. No wonder it was such a big deal.
Ok_Rip_1775@reddit
What a band of talented musicians! Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, is that Bob Dylan Who are the others? Some of the comments show that they don't know them.
well-it-was-rubbish@reddit
Are you joking? That's George Harrison in the front right side, Bob Dylan is in the middle back row, and that's Jeff Lynne of ELO in the back left. This is the Gen X group, right?
petitespantoufles@reddit
Calm down, man. I'm young gen X and didn't know who the fifth guy (Lynne, apparently) was, either.
elphring@reddit
Top left is Jeff Lynne from ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)
Front right is George Harrison from a band called The Beatles
Ok_Rip_1775@reddit
Thank you! Amazing group. Btw I saw the Beatles at RedRocks in Colorado. I think in 1965.😉
3atTh3R1ch79@reddit
40 is Jeff Lynne of ELO (please check them out if you haven't already). 47 is George Harrison of the greatest band of all time.
ArturosDad@reddit
Jeff Lynne and some dude named George Harrison.
used2lurknstilldo@reddit
Behind Roy is Jeff Lynne of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra),
Seated is George Harrison of The Beatles.
Love the Wilburys!
arothmanmusic@reddit
I play in a band that does a couple of their songs as well as songs by most of them individually (we don't have any ELO in the rep).
Roy played his final show here in Cleveland at a great venue near my house. The venue closed down, making his last show also theirs. There is now a Home Depot and a Kohl's on that spot.
Ok_Entrepreneur_8509@reddit
Most of their lyrics sound like they were just jamming and taking turns throwing in whatever random line comes to their mind. I would have killed to be standing in the corner while that happened.
Anxiouslycalm12@reddit
Last night..talkin about last night
joshua_addison_music@reddit
I look 25 compared to these guys
in-a-microbus@reddit
I look 60 compared to these guys
bufftbone@reddit
With the exception of Tom Petty, they all look older at those ages than people the same ages today look.
petitespantoufles@reddit
I think that was OP's point.
Ok_Entrepreneur_8509@reddit
I was just thinking about them today. My Gen-Z friend (who is otherwise fairly music-literate) has not heard any Orbison. I started making a mental list to give him and realized that these guys are going to blow his young, little mind.
Thanks for posting this. I decided I was going to listen to both albums tonight instead of watching some stupid movie. It feels so good.
BruinGuy5948@reddit
I occasionally watch reaction videos on YouTube just to watch young people get their minds blown by old music.
Psycle_Panda@reddit
LIke some Gen Z guy blown away by Bridge Over Troubled Water. That was kinda sweet, but funny at the same time.
helladiabolical@reddit
I’m technically a Xillenial and when I was maybe 12-13 I went to girl scout camp and somehow ended up with only their first album on tape to listen to for the entire week. I ended up having a particularly shitty time at camp that year and every one of these songs from this group of random old men got me through that week. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20’s that I realized that all these guys were actually as famous they are and it absolutely started my love of Classic Rock! Still love that album.
Empty_Nestor@reddit
It boggles my mind that I’m now eight years older than Roy Orbison was when he died.
Pennelle2016@reddit
TIL he was 52 when he died; he seemed ancient! I’m 2 years older 🤯
Generally_Tso_Tso@reddit
Fuuuuuck. Roy died the same year they recorded their first album together. How was Roy only 52 years old. He looked like he was closer to 82 than 52. Born in '36, first album cut in '60, Traveling Wilbury's '88, and died in '88 of a heart attack, age 52. 🎶My time has come, the clouds are calling... Life fades away🎶
Ok_Entrepreneur_8509@reddit
To be fair, I think he was born 52.
TurnoverFuzzy8264@reddit
Seven for me.
Ritaredditonce@reddit
The billion dollar quintet.
Economy-Bedroom-6804@reddit
Holy fuck I've become Bob Dylan
Psycle_Panda@reddit
I've almost ascended to full Orbison.
Ultravod@reddit
My favorite thing about the Willburys was what a bunch of excited little fanboys the other four turned into when they got Roy Orbison to join their band. This was an former Beatle, the "voice of a generation" (I have some objections to that name, but I'll let it pass for now), a complete studio whiz who cranked out hit after hit in the 70s, and man whose stardom was continuing to rise at that point in time. Yet in spite of all of their individual pedigrees, Roy was just enough older and had seen success earlier that to the rest of the group he was the predecessor and the trailblazer.
Also, goddamn could Roy sing. The man had a golden voice.
obligatory-purgatory@reddit
What? Roy was only in his 50s? That can’t be right.
ArturosDad@reddit
I am somehow two years older than Roy Orbison and his Deputy Dog jowls.
Cue my newest existential crisis!
StrangeAssonance@reddit
He looks in his 60s or I look like I’m in my 40s!
KindaKrayz222@reddit
And Cocoon...
El_refrito_bandito@reddit
Whoa.
I thought of Roy Orbison as so old then.
DrBobShelton_74@reddit
That was my first thought too. FM
savorie@reddit
If he had a better haircut and got ANY amount of sun, he would've looked all right.
But yeah, I assumed he was 10 years older than this
McRambis@reddit
I'm right there with you, and it's crazy.
Crewstage8387@reddit
Same

She wrote a long letter, on a short piece of paper
nashwaak@reddit
We lived next to Geddy Lee from Rush when I was a teenager in the late 70's (ordinary Toronto neighbourhood, he's not pretentious). I was around 15 when they moved away, and he seemed really ancient — at the ripe old age of 27!
KMack666@reddit
They're no Highwaymen, but they'll do!
PaperbackBuddha@reddit
So yeah now I’m older than THE OLD GUY from a band of old guys. Impeccable album tho
Kindly_Bluebird_3741@reddit
Congratulations..
ForwardCulture@reddit
When I first scrolled past this I thought it was a photo of Toto…
Significant_Ruin4870@reddit
Criminy, that was the year I graduated from university.
cjs23cjs@reddit
I was in college when they were popular. I remember thinking… what a bunch of old guys (except Petty), but hey they’re still good.
Now I’m older than they were, but don’t feel old at all. (Except with weights, ouch)
Obvious_Leadership44@reddit
Fuck sake..
Mediocre-Proposal686@reddit
I really miss Tom Petty.

Sad-Celebration-411@reddit
If Roy Orbison looked like that at 52, what do I look like at 54? I might never leave the house again.
Genius-Imbecile@reddit
It's allllllright
Ill-Course8623@reddit
That's why I stopped looking in the mirror at 55 and haven't bothered since.
DrBobShelton_74@reddit
Fuq me

I’m 52. And if I had a 52 year old friend who looked like Roy Orbison, I would take him straight to the ER.
