What song reminds you of an unrequited teenage crush?

For me it’s “And We Danced” by the Hooters. I still sigh when I hear it!

“Walking in Memphis”. I wasn’t in Memphis but I walked to my crush’s place late one night to apologize for some bad behavior the night before, and to tell her how I felt about her. We had been friends for months. She fell asleep before I could work up the courage to talk to her, so I just sat there for a while. That song came on the radio, I had never heard it before but I immediately wanted to hear it again. Later on I wrote her a letter explaining my feelings and nothing came of it, in fact we ended up hating each other mostly because of my aforementioned bad behavior.

Someone, Somewhere (In Summertime) - Simple Minds
I met her in middle school. We had a memorable (for me) meet cute in a small class for gifted kids. My friend told me she wanted to dance with me at a dance later that year but I was too scared to ask her. Had classes together in high school, similar friend groups, but our paths didn’t cross much. Ended up at the same college and commuted home together every few weeks. It was a three hour car ride so we talked about everything. She was the best listener and she had the ability to make you feel like the coolest person in the room. I developed feelings for her but I was also dating this girl I truly had no business dating. When the girlfriend dumped me, I let my friend know I was really crushed. She made the first move! She told me she wanted to date me.
I felt the exact same way but I had just been dumped and I put my foot in my mouth. I said (twice) something to the effect of “why would you be interested in me.” Dumb… so dumb. We rode home but she was obviously disappointed. I didn’t know what to say at that point, but I knew I had stepped in it.
Once I had finished licking my wounds from the breakup a couple weeks later I tried to make contact by sending flowers with a note asking for a date. I got a call from her the next morning—she had gotten involved with someone she was casually dating when we had our missed connection. I was absolutely devastated. I had some personal problems and spent a couple of years getting my life together. I called her about two and a half years later and we talked for over an hour. I asked if she was seeing anyone and she was, unfortunately for me.
Today I’m blessed-amazing wife, three fantastic kids, a great career-but I still miss those drives home with Tanya. She was a wonderful person. I’ve never felt the same connection with another person.

Tom Petty's "Angel Dream" always used to remind me of how I felt about the first woman to break my heart before we fell apart.
After having more relationships, a failed marriage, and getting remarried, now I have a wife and son. I no longer get the same "feelings" from that song. Instead of seeing the former lover when I hear the song, I see my son... and the song no longer sounds whistful and longing, but hopeful and satisfying.
It's crazy how your reaction to things change over time.

Real Real Real by Jesus Jones. My class went roller skating a few times. I was the dorky girl with coke bottle glasses and acne who couldn’t stand up on skates. These older girls from another school kept bodychecking me into the boards and calling me a dyke. When this song played, two fairly popular boys who weren’t in my social strata at all came over and each grabbed one of my hands and skated around the rink. I didn’t have a crush on either of them, but I was so damn happy and grateful that I always tried to talk to them and be nice to them at school, but they never really acknowledged me beyond ‘hi’. Interestingly, I’ve become decently good friends with one of them just in the past 5 years. The other disappeared off the face of the earth after junior high. Nobody knows what became of him.
maddog2271@reddit
That song Lady in Red and that is 100% because in 8th grade I danced with the girl I was just in love with and that song was on, but I didn’t say anything since I was too shy. Funny enough I ran into her at an event about 10 years later and after exchanging pleasantries she said “you know I always wanted to say I had such a huge crush on you back then but I didn’t know what to say.” A good argument for opening up and speaking your mind. Wherever you are now Heather I still remember you and I think of you whenever that song plays.

Oh, damn. So right.
