Remember this truck that would go around the neighborhood?

They had the best little pizza’s and ice cream ever. I used to get so excited every time they would come around.
jamisonian123@reddit
They are closed. Weird how people are saying they see them?
MedievalHag@reddit
Maybe it’s because the closed relatively recently. I was thinking that we still had them here but then though and realized it’s been a few years since I’ve seen them
Tacoman404@reddit
Yeah the pandemic propped them up but obviously they didn't plan beyond that. The last time I saw them was delivering to an older couple on my street 2-3 years ago.
jamisonian123@reddit
Makes sense!
SpaceAdventures3D@reddit
I was going to say I've seen then recently. To me, anything this decade is recently. This whole decade is a foggy blur. But yeah, upon reflection it has actually been years since Ive seen a Schwan's truck. I never ordered from them. I missed my chance.
jamisonian123@reddit
Me too
MilesAugust74@reddit
I definitely saw one within the last few years, but I may have been hallucinating. That or someone bought a used truck of theirs and was using it for some other delivery-type service, which I suppose is entirely possible.
jamisonian123@reddit
Makes sense
Awesome_to_the_max@reddit
They auctioned off the trucks recently so people could be seeing the trucks out there.
round-earth-theory@reddit
There's similar companies still running today so maybe that's what they're seeing.
1Steelghost1@reddit
Was just going to say I swear I saw one just last summer.
naazzttyy@reddit
I could swear I saw The Who just last summer, so I know what you mean
NotWifeMaterial@reddit
The trucks are still out there. I’m not sure who’s operating them.

Damn, those root beer float bars in July
SpeshollK@reddit
Sherbet push ups. Damn I miss that slight tinge of paper flavoring...

How sad I’d get as a kid when my tongue hit the plastic pusher knowing the end of flavor town was near.
Emergency-Box-5719@reddit
Pro tip: you could connect two plastic wheels to one push up rod for a fun wheelie toy. At least if I remember correctly.
KelsoReaping@reddit
My grandma would get these for us. Takes me back.
AuntJibbie@reddit
Still does

Awkward_Lion5014@reddit
Actually not unique to Texas.
blooobolt@reddit
Oh, I know it was elsewhere. I just didn't like anything else about Texas. Unless you're implying there are other states where the only good thing was the Schwan truck lols.
Particular-Fennel-67@reddit
My grandma lived at the Schwan' man. RIP. ❤️😭
Quiet_Ad1859@reddit
I miss those trucks.
Living-One5265@reddit
They used to come to our house back in the day, back when North Bend Washington was a smallish town still. I do miss, over priced over processed delicious food.
Status_Entrepreneur4@reddit
We were too poor to get it on most occasions but when my dad would scrape together a few bucks at the last second and send us to the truck across the street at the neighbors during a delivery I knew we were getting some of the good ice cream that day!

Silver Mint Bars for me. They were gone for a long time and we stopped ordering. The moment they came back our Schwan's driver showed up carrying a box that we promptly purchased and got regular deliveries again.

Ah, Schwan's... They were headquartered in Marshall, MN and my dad got a data processing job there in the mid 80's. Great ice cream and pizza. Those little yellow trucks driving everywhere are a fond memory.
Got to meet the original owner, Marvin, at company picnics. Was a pretty chill dude. I spent a summer spraying food prep machinery in one of their convenience food plants. Fuck, that job was gross. Paid well though.
buckfuttner@reddit
Must be a midwest thing. They didn't have those in east coast cities.

I remember my dumbass welfare aunt using her welfare or wic check to setup delivery to her section 8 housing then running out of money and bumming $10 from me (17 at the time) for smokes and a gallon of milk at the end of the month. Dumbass.
Admirable_Summer_917@reddit
It used to be good but then it just got too expensive. I usually got the steaks and hot wings when the guy came around.
mrglenbeck@reddit
My boomer neighbors still get deliveries from them!
wdatkinson@reddit
Didn't they shut down? Like months ago?
mrglenbeck@reddit
Ah you're right, they used them right up until the end.
wdatkinson@reddit
I remember them as a kid and my wife and I had started using them again. Until we couldn't. Got some nice insulated souvenir bags instead of the t-shirt.

But most of the food was really good !
Awkward_Lion5014@reddit
The company actually still exists, it just closed down the delivery service. Among other things, they own Tony’s pizza.
n_diamond@reddit
Of course, the name means penis in Yiddish
ItsMrChristmas@reddit
No. It means "swan" in Yiddish. Shmekl is the word you're thinking of.
n_diamond@reddit
If you say it aloud it sounds like Yiddish penis ‘Shvantz / Shvants: Refers to a tail, often used to refer to a penis.’ Which was how I remember that company
RustySilver42@reddit
Schwanz is German slang for penis. So maybe wrong language?
DialogueNDaggers@reddit
I would love to find the bagel dogs. Haven’t had one in 10 years probably and I still think about them.

Mom would always get their chicken strips! They were good. Dad would get that HUGE plastic tub of chocolate ice cream. I think it was probably two or three gallons.
ScrambledNoggin@reddit
When I bought my first house in 1999 they showed up in the first 48 hours, trying to sell me on a monthly subscription. AccomplishedIgit@reddit
That’s all I thought it was ever tbh
Cute-Advisor-2323@reddit
I think at one time they used to go around neighborhoods and canvas the neighborhoods for customers or when they would deliver to a house in the neighborhood other neighbors would come by to ask questions and become a customer themselves. Because they started in 1952 and they didn't have the internet back then. I think they were door to door salesman of ice cream in Minnesota.

Their Root Beer Float bars were a favorite.
Criticaltundra777@reddit
I worked for them for a year. Best job ever. Never ceased to amaze me the amount of people that would leave the house unlocked so I could stock the freezer in the basement. I would walk in, no one home get the list of what they wanted and fill er up.
MicheleAmanda@reddit
Yup. I used to love their little single pizzas. Everything was kind of expensive. Schwans still makes food, found in the grocery store. Their brands: Red Baron, Freschetta, Tony's Pizza, Mrs. Smith's Pies, Edwards Pies, and Pagoda.
BulkyMarch9981@reddit
The home delivery branch sold to a company called Yellow. You could order online and have it shipped to your door. They shut down about a year ago. I still have a couple of cordon blues in my freezer.

Shut down in 2024.
Limberpuppy@reddit
That sucks for rural communities. There was one that would visit farms where my family is from in SD. It’s how they got about 25% of their food.
RogerClyneIsAGod2@reddit
You'd have thought they would've thrived in the pandemic but nope.
They still sorta exist, they own certain brands of stuff but the home delivery is dunzo

They were the original Sodastream too. They had the pump, the CO2 canisters, the syrups, the bottles, etc. & you made your own versions of the various sodas. hawtsauceaddict@reddit
I came here to find out wtf was in those trucks.
wakattawakaranai@reddit
My parents had a regular delivery visit (they were ahem well-off) so I've seen the inside of the little freezers. They carried stock of everything in their little brochure catalog, so you could pick and choose what you wanted that week and they'd just go out and get it. Frozen meats, prepared foods (chicken nuggets, etc), frozen veg, and ice cream treats. The ice cream was to die for, I frequently long for the one thing that's never been duplicated by any other company: the gold'n nugget bar. Caramel and peanuts over ice cream, dipped in chocolate. Perfect balance. A snickers branded bar never measures up because the caramel was very liquid, never turned into toffee texture no matter how long it was in the freezer.
Yada-Yada-Yadda@reddit

I applied to be a Schwann's driver in the late 90s. They liked me and were prepared to offer the position, but said I had to shave my beard. I get it, it's their business and they had an image they wanted to maintain, but I politely declined and moved across the country instead. Worked out pretty well for me and I still have the beard.
Ruenin@reddit
I tried to get a job at Walmart when I was 16 but they wanted me to cut my hair. Not a chance. I don't "get it". What them does that have to with anything as long as I'm clean and groomed?
DynamiteWitLaserBeam@reddit
I'm the case of Schwan's, they were trying to recreate the vibe of the "Good Humor" brand - impeccably dressed and groomed all American type stuff - people that would calm even the most paranoid pearl clutching judgy grandma long enough for her to buy some marshmallow swirl ice cream from a truck in front of her own house. They probably didn't allow visible tattoos or piercings or anything else that might scare off their boomer customers.
I'm not saying it's what I would ever do with my business (I mean, I didn't take the job, right?) - just that I understood why they did it. It's their business and they can put forth any image they want, within the law.
Bandag5150@reddit
I turned down a diesel mechanic job because I would have to shave my beard. They had chemical tankers in their fleet and you had to be clean shaven to wear a respirator in an emergency.
lowrads@reddit
It's a requirement in all the refineries around here, but hood escape respirators are generally allowed. Contracting firms are obliged to provide their own equipment, which makes up about nine out of ten personnel on any site.
Bonafideago@reddit
They relaxed the beard policy around 2012ish. Still, doesn't matter, they don't exist anymore now.

We have family lore about “The Schwann’s Man”. Early 90’s my female cousin answers the door for the SM, who says something that was unacceptable to my cousin, who yelled for my uncle. Guess what happened next? WRONG. The SM easily handled my uncle and my young cousin that had jumped on his back to help the fight. He didn’t hurt them but he got away. I was a kid and thought it was funny. Years later I learned that the driver had offered to take my cousin for a ride in his truck for “dessert”. Dude was lucky my uncle only brought his fists.

I do know Good Humor. They would come around playing that slightly warped sounding jingle and I would beg my mother to buy me something.

I thought Schwann’s was for rich people 😂
Simons_sees@reddit
I'm learning that it became for rich people later in their time. I was not wealthy in the slightest growing up in the 90's but we always has Schwan's stuff. After asking my father why we stopped, he said the prices went up way too fast.

I never understood it. Maybe if you were homebound and had a lot of money?
I worked for a company that had signed them as a client for web design and hosting, and we all got some sort of promo with them. I want to say it was 50% off, but it could have been more. Either way, it was still more expensive than just going to the store for frozen food, and at least to me, wasn't any more special than frozen food from the grocery store.
peacefinder@reddit
Same reasons Instacart exists now.
Orange_Tang@reddit
Not really. Everyone around where I grew up used schwans cause it was a 25 minute drive to the good grocery store. To this day instacart, Uber eats, and doordash do not service that area. There is a grocery store much closer now though so that's probably why schwans shut down. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it was solid quality and very convenient.
totallyjaded@reddit
Another one I don't really get, outside of one-off "I'm setting up for a party and can't just drop everything to go get- " type things.
It's wild to me that people will pay double price after upcharges, fees, and tips to have stuff like Happy Meals and Doritos delivered.

Like so many things, it’s a cash:time trade-off.
Plus sometimes just avoiding the Costco parking lot seems worth twenty bucks in aggravation avoided.

RandomObserver13@reddit
I remember my mom getting Schwan’s ice cream occasionally, but not very often, and it was one of those deals where they wanted you as a regular customer or they wouldn’t stop. At least that’s my recollection. I want to say they mostly sold it by the gallon, which made it hard to fit in the freezer. Probably too pricey also. And she was not one to buy frozen meals.
She did stick with the Rich Plan service for a few years. Got our first microwave through them well before most people had them, which was kind of weird because it’s definitely the only thing I can say that about, lol. Damn thing was huge and only about 800 watts.
Therex1282@reddit

We lived in Brainerd, MN and my mom would always buy ice cream treats from the Schwans guy. It seems like an odd business model to me now as an adult. If some guy came up to my door right now selling ice cream, I'd find it a little annoying and just say no thanks.

They had a thing called steak fingers, an incredible treat if I ever got one.
When I was a kid, my friend's dad was a doctor, and through his largesse I was able to dine at one of the finer restaurants in the little Eastern Oregon town where I was raised. I'm a bit confused this murky Saturday, after having necked an inordinate amount of țuică with my Romanian friend Dragos last night, but I swear the restaurant was called
THE STEAK HOLDER
Right there on the main street, buzzing neon.
A mysterious place for me, far above my lower middle class roots. I may as well have been on Mars. Yellow scalloped glass booth dividers, thick dark carpet, hammered copper trim along the tables. Red pebbled plastic water cups, crushed ice. I felt like a million bucks. That was the first time I saw light bulbs that were meant to flicker like a candle, a dozen twinkling on the wagon wheel light fixture in the center of the room.
They had a long salad bar, covered in ice, little bowls of pepperoncini, sliced beets, pineapple and Russian dressing, but we skipped that. My friend Nate insisted we order something called steak fingers, which came out like beef fish sticks. I tried the A-1 but it was far too complex so I stuck with ketchup, you know, keeping something familiar to stay grounded. I knew that the next day I was back to hamburger helper and Western Family cereal.
koolaid_cowboy_55@reddit
Yes. The little pizzas were awesome. Our "Schwan's man" was a little on the weird side. He got a little too comfortable, and would just walk into our house instead of knocking or ringing bell. Made my dad mad.

Norse_By_North_West@reddit
That's a rediculous amount of truck to haul around ice cream.
shreddit5150@reddit
It wasn't just ice cream, it was also frozen food. It wasn't the the kind of ice cream truck driving around neighborhoods selling to kids and sugar junkies. It was primarily a delivery truck that fulfilled pre-orders.
Norse_By_North_West@reddit
Ah, okay. Still, seems like a big truck for that. Unless the food is seriously high in iron.
shreddit5150@reddit
They were most popular in rural areas where grocery stores didnt carry a lot of specific ice cream treats or frozen foods. The Schwan's truck that came to my town had a route of over a couple hundred miles. If anything, I'd say the truck was undersized.
Norse_By_North_West@reddit
Did they pull trailers too? That'd be the main reason I can think for using a 4 ton truck for it.

TheJokersChild@reddit
A lot of that food was being delivered from HelloFresh and Blue Apron. And UberEats and Doordash.
guzzijason@reddit
Of course. But those companies were entering a market where Schwan’s existed for decades. The fact that they couldn’t capitalize on this boom in the market seems like they may have been a victim of poor management and marketing more than anything else.
1Steelghost1@reddit
Agree, but people were also filling their entire pantry or ordering entire meals, ice cream would have been part if the order.

Rebranding from Schwnans to Yelloh certainly didn't help. Took a 70 year old brand that everyone knew and nuked it.

Iirc, their “special recipe” pizzas sold on the home delivery side were slightly different (sauce) than the Red Baron. Schwans was family owned. Then it got to a generation that just didn’t care to be involved. They sold to a foreign entity that rebranded as Yelloh. But what killed Schwan’s was changing consumer habits. It was all over when Walmart started delivering.
Down2my-last-nerve@reddit
This, exactly. My husband was an executive at Schwan's in Minnesota and this is what he tells people that ask why home delivery has stopped. People aren't home during the day for deliveries anymore and they dont want strangers coming up to their door or entering their home. They had these giant muffins that were amazing. Rumor had it that if you didn't order even once, they never came back. Unfortunately my parents decided to FAFO
blueboatmich66@reddit
I remember my mom buying a huge restaurant sized tub of ice cream for some reason. It went in our chest freezer in the basement. We had a lot of vanilla root beer floats that summer.
TXtogo@reddit
Omg I just looked this up the other day, I was sad to know they aren’t around anymore
capthazelwoodsflask@reddit
I worked at a Chinese restaurant during high school and we served ginger ice cream from Schwan's as a dessert. When the Schwan's man would come around and the giant bucket was down to a few pints we'd buy a new one and our boss would let us employees have the rest of the old bucket. It was delicious but that was the only places I've ever been to that had ginger ice cream.
meowmix79@reddit
They did accept EBT too.
Dragon_Bidness@reddit
My mom worked for them. They took her out of the truck and made her a secretary after she backed over her third mailbox.
Even with the employee discount we couldn't afford half this shit.
Rude-Arm-2242@reddit
My grandparents had one swing by once a month in the 80's, middle of nowhere northern Montana. I'm pretty sure my grandma bought enough to make his 80 mile one way trip from Great Falls worth it all by herself!
NotEasilyConfused@reddit
It wasn't 80 miles out from town to our farm, but we saw the Schwan's Man twice a year. Good memories.
GiselePearl@reddit
I remember feeling so rich when I could afford to buy from the Schwan’s truck.
Jonas_VentureJr@reddit
I would like to dedicate my life long high cholesterol and hypertension to the fine men and men that delivered the great food they offer.
Pelletsandpistons@reddit
Interesting bit of trivia... The word, "schwanz" is German slang for "penis"
notloggedin4242@reddit
It literally means tail. The way it’s written on the truck though - their name - means swan (‘s)
MaximumJones@reddit
rostoffario@reddit
The strawberry and mint chocolate chip ice cream were amazing!
OldSkooler1212@reddit
Remember? Up until a few years ago they were coming to our house every week. Then they rebranded under a new name and the quality dropped way down, and they started treating their long time employees badly.
SmokedHamm@reddit
My dad used to deliver for them. And yes I was plump during my childhood…
dogzeimers@reddit
Breakfast pizzas...yummmmy
integrator74@reddit
Still have them in Indiana
saposguy@reddit
Texas too
funkraider@reddit
Still does in central PA.
survbob@reddit
Yeah just last summer, we just finished surveying cross sections in a creek behind a retirement apt block. Schwan truck rolls up, sees us sweating like crazy hauling our survey gear up out of ravine…dude stopped and got out four ice cream bars and handed them out. Man that was fuckin good, thanks again Schwan guy!
becketh29@reddit
I used to get the best treats from them
Commercial_Lock6205@reddit
I miss their ice cream bars.
mcintyrevt@reddit
I learned to play drums on our old buckets of ice cream while listening to Rush.
Affogoto@reddit
I loved the pizza! Looked forward to it afterschool. My go to!
Mulezzz@reddit
My neighbor still uses them.
tuna_safe_dolphin@reddit
This has to be regional, I've never heard of this company before.
SR70@reddit
Back in the 90s a neighbor got deliveries and when the guy went inside to drop stuff off the local teen boys who were a bunch of little shitheads would break into the truck and steal stuff.
Dr_Grinsp00n@reddit
I drove one for a few years! It was a fun job, honestly.
fridayimatwork@reddit
Not rich enough!
Pulleyman45@reddit
This was my mom’s menu growing up, basement freezer packed with Schwans
ObviouslyRealPerson@reddit
Coderado@reddit
I still got a stack of the 1.5gallon white buckets from their vanilla ice cream. I use the lids under plant pots. I've never found a replacement for their pints of brownie batter ice cream.
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
Too rich for our blood
bartonspringsforlife@reddit
Same. We knew who had money if this truck was parked outside their house.
ChildOfaConspiracist@reddit
My mom wasted so much money on Schwann’s. It was good stuff.
Northman_76@reddit
Never had anything bad off one of those trucks. Actually kinda miss em.
Amterc182@reddit
The local corner store had their ice cream. Still can't find anything as good as the butter brickle.
marblefrosting@reddit
Say you’re from the Midwest without saying you grew up in the Midwest.
Coderado@reddit
We had them in Maine in the 80's, and I also had them in Denver area up until they shut down. I've seen the trucks in California. Not specifically a Midwest thing.
Zooter88@reddit
I remember seeing them driving around So Cal. Don’t think we ever ordered from them, but those trucks were iconic.
bonzoboy2000@reddit
Damn. And it wasn’t that long ago too. The food they delivered was a exceptionally good quality. And so were the desserts and the ice cream.
kazz9201@reddit
One of these drivers is the father of my son. I’m sure of it!!
turbodonuts@reddit
We have them in Phoenix. An older couple on my street gets deliveries.
CountHonorius@reddit
Still does where I live. Really expensive, too.
TheAmazingMaryJane@reddit
omg i remember their delicious spring rolls.
CompanyOther2608@reddit
Midwest — my mom would stock up on mini pizzas, egg rolls, and ice cream.
Coderado@reddit
Fuck private equity, they ruin everything. I still haven't found frozen corn that tastes like corn, it's little yellow ice cubes. It was expensive, but the quality made it worth it.
Diela1968@reddit
They still did up to 2020ish. When I moved back to my home town in 2016 I had a Schwanns delivery day until it got idiotically expensive.

redwbl@reddit
Best memory from Schwan’s truck.
We were having a wake for my sister-in-law. There were about 20 people at my brothers house in the garage and in the front yard, just chillin’ and telling old stories since most of us grew up together and hadn’t seen much of each other for a long time.
Schwan’s truck pulls up after seeing us all hanging out, trying to sell us stuff. At first we were a little perturbed because of the situation. I told him why we were gathered, he apologizes and goes back to his truck and comes back with 4 or 5 boxes of different ice cream bars. Says “Sorry for your loss” or something along those lines.
Turned an irritating situation into a fond memory.
lovebeinganasshole@reddit
We have them in California. My aunt and uncle use them they live rural so it’s an easy way for them to get food.
AtomicGrendel@reddit
Their apple cherry berry juice and their orange pineapple juice were the best. I also loved the rocky road ice cream, and single serve deep dish pizzas. Used to get stuff from them every other week when we lived in the suburbs of Detroit. Then we moved to an apartment in Chicago, where the delivery schedule for that area was just too inconvenient for us.
Dapper_Soup7902@reddit
Still does around my way lol
Unexpectedly99@reddit
I was having them deliver during Covid, it was a great mid-week fill in with two hungry teens at home full time.
MsT1075@reddit
Yes! I still see them in certain neighborhoods. Next time I see one, I will flag them down, bc in this present economy, I need some Schwann’s in my life.
AltRuralBelle@reddit
My neighbor STILL gets this truck stopping by once a month.
TheJokersChild@reddit
Had it for a while in the late '90s. Loved it all. Got a little pricey, though, comapred to going to the store.
RobFloridaMan@reddit
I remember those trucks but I don’t remember them ever coming to OUR house 😭
FixEfficient2144@reddit
Home delivery just shut down officially November 2024. My wife and I got Schwan’s during Covid lockdown times. Our driver always caught us for an order after a bowl, so the delivery was always a fun surprise.
Rare-Confusion-220@reddit
Still does (at least it does in our neighborhood in Golden CO)
pissant52@reddit
Schwans and Market Day were big where I was as a young parent
Illustrious_Stick_57@reddit

Really?
Angry_GorillaBS@reddit
Never around my neighborhood. Too spread out to even be a neighborhood really, we didn't get things like that. But was always jealous when at my friends house in a different town because it seemed like they showed up every single time I was there
EnglishFan643@reddit
I do. It's a shame it's no longer seen.
devilinthedetails@reddit
Gone but not forgotten, you can still get their frozen pizza (Freschetta and Tony's are the store brands).
Definitely have fond memories of their ice cream.
Doctor_Joystick@reddit
Schwan’s is still around, they’re HUGE in K-12. Like, when your kid has a burrito, breaded chicken or pizza at school it’s likely that it was a Schwan’s product.
Walk_of_Shayne@reddit
I loved the strawberry shortcake sundae crunch bars
dope_mantra@reddit
The pizza burgers omg
somePig_buckeye@reddit
They had the best ice cream sandwiches and fudge pops. We always had 6qt containers of vanilla ice cream and maybe a half gallon of chocolate. Their popsicles were pretty good, but the root beer ones always got thrown away.
Once when my mom was gone for a day, my dad left our teenage babysitter a blank check to buy the list when the Schwan’s man came. He also told her we could pick a treat. She let us each get something along with herself and the list. The bill was over $100 in the late 70s. He was a little upset when he came in from the field, but didn’t say much.

japhia_aurantia@reddit
I spent a season working at a remote ranger station in Oregon, and the nearest store was an hour away. This was fine for most things, but not great for frozen stuff. The Schwann's truck would come up once a week, and the 40 or so people that lived there would all stock up on ice cream, pizza, etc. It was great, and I still miss the mint ice cream bars.
luladee@reddit
The house down the street, the crank dealer and his customers, thought the delivery truck was very suspicious.
MilesAugust74@reddit
I used to get the frozen shrimp-stuffed fish (salmon?) of some kind. I felt so extra fancy eating that. 🧐

Did they have a big food poisoning scare years ago?

Had a German friend get a good laugh one time because I told him about the door to door Schwan's man. Apparently, Schwan's sounds like slang (?) for a man's dippity-doo in German 🤣
Three3Jane@reddit
Yep - husband and I used to snort when people would say the 'Schwanz' man was coming by today!
Not a lot of German speakers in north Idaho though.
dae_giovanni@reddit
Germans love this truck. bahahahahaha

Only saw these when I was in my 40s.
connain@reddit
I've seen them a few times in relatively recent years. My main contact with Schwan's was having someone else use my email address when they signed up. Given the order, im suspecting an elderly single man or woman, unsurprisingly. I would get updates for their entire monthly order.
For the first 3 months, I just deleted it, figuring they'd notice, eventually. Then, when they didn't, I contacted Schwan's explaining the issue. Schwan's said, unless I coukd verify I was the actual person, they couldn't do anything. Out of curiosity, I tried using my email to log in, used forgot my password and it sent me the link. I literallycoukd have hobe in and changed their orders, over-ordered, and messed with it significantly. There's potential legal ramifications, so I didn't. I just created a rule to forward those emails to junk mail. Schwan's may have ok food but their customer prote tuon for online was lacking last I checked.
My email username is old enough and simple enough that it fairly regularly gets mistakenly used by people (usually older) who forget to add whatever random number they assigned to their actual name (e.g. if I had joe@somewhere.com I regularly get emails meant for joe1@somewhere.com or similar. When I can, I track down the intended recipient and let them know. They're usually thankful. I no longer receive some lady's Barkbox delivery details. I no longer am signed up for some guy's annual family photo account. Oddly, I still get:
some French woman's monthly apartment statements and communications for the last few years (I hope they found out who was regularly throwing up alcohol in the building hallways)
someone's south African housing abd I think tax statements for the last few years
still have access to some company's billing records for clients kept on a Google spreadsheet, even after I warned thrm they've given a complete stranger access numerous times
And a couple more. Periodically I check my spam folder to see if I'm still getting them. Sometimes its fun to read the drama in the French apartment communication emails, it sounds like a lively place.
nomiesmommy@reddit
The caramel apple popsicles and raspberry swirl ice cream bars from 20 years ago had such a hold on me. So good!
Sir_Osis_Brewer@reddit
We used to get really big metal containers of vanilla ice cream. Lived in the country, and mom would leave money in the garage freezer and if we weren’t home, the Schwan’s man would put our food in there.
We had delivery up until two years ago when they shut down. It got pretty expensive near the end, for sure.
And I loved those little pizzas!
18ekko@reddit
Only saw them in the rural midwest in the 1970s, I was a fan of the frozen pizza burger patties, ahead of their time.
Sir_Osis_Brewer@reddit
St Louis metro.

decades later in suburban So Cal, my sister found they were there and got on their delivery route.

It still does. I have only made one purchase from them 20 years ago.

Microwave milkshakes are what I think of
simikoi@reddit
Still in my neighborhood, I see it all the time. They deliver all kinds of stuff, frozen steaks, burgers and chicken, plus dairy and other items.
bigotis@reddit
Schwan's rebranded as "Yelloh" in 2022 and then ceased all operations and permanently shut down in November 2024.
simikoi@reddit
It's highly possible that it was before 2024 when I last saw them. My neighbor at my old house had weekly deliveries from them but I moved to the other side of town a few years ago.
MCSSavvy@reddit
I miss the stuffed shrimp and sherbet push-ups.

Downtown_Anteater_38@reddit
Those little pizzas are Red Baron Deep Dish Singles (or the modern lower quality equivalent.) Schwan's owns Red Baron. I loved their peach ice cream
Hall45Rox@reddit
Beat me to it! Also the Tony’s line of pizza is theirs.
Downtown_Anteater_38@reddit
Yes, Freschetta as well. South Korean company CJ CheilJedang actually bought 80% of Schwan's back in 2019
Hall45Rox@reddit
I hate Freschetta though, their sauce or something is just terrible.
Tony’s and red baron are both good.
itwillmakesenselater@reddit
I used to live on those pizzas
BoomDonk@reddit
I’ve literally flagged them down on the FM roads when I used to live out in a small Texas town.
ExHippieChick@reddit
All summer long we'd listen for the tones of the ice cream truck coming around. Mom would give us money as we went out for the day for it. My favorites were the Bomb Ice Pops (red, white and blue popsicle) or a Screwball with the bubble gum ball at the bottom.
MadDAWGZ71@reddit
Hell yes. I used them right up until they went under a few years ago. When you think about it they were way ahead of the times
Sometimesunaware@reddit
My brother in law worked for Schwan's. We had a freezer chest freezer full of their stuff.
