Honda’s $15.9 Billion EV Disaster Just Delayed The Next Accord, Odyssey, And MDX

It’s not just the Odyssey, the MDX and HR-V are also getting extended into a decade of production. Honda is going to end up with a dated ICE lineup and zero EVs, they’ve somehow achieved the worst of all worlds with this strategy.

Espinosa/Nissan said Versa was only killed because of tariffs

Posted by Repulsive-Club7866@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 39 comments

CuddleTeamCatboy@reddit

There’s a roughly $5000 gap between the Versa and Sentra’s base price, which is absolutely massive at that price bracket. Imo they’d both be fully justified in the US market.

Carvana Selling New Vehicles After Buying Dealerships

I've always thought that there should be some kind of big box car retailer, theoretically there's nothing stopping Carmax or Amazon from buying dealer franchises and shipping new cars at fixed prices from those dealers. Interesting to finally see a company try this.

Hyundai has been spending billions of dollars on robotics and automation systems for their factories, including building [a new experimental factory in Singapore](https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/11/small-batch-evs-and-plenty-of-robots-hyundais-new-innovation-center/) and acquiring Boston Dynamics. Their union in Korea is [opposed to this for obvious reasons,](https://pulse.mk.co.kr/news/english/11948362) so I can't imagine that Hyundai would want to spend billions to buy a factory and deal with labor issues when they try to install their robotic systems.

This thing has been a dud ever since GM relaunched it. It's a model on 2016-era bones warmed over for the second time, sold only for one model year, and with CarPlay stripped out. The Bolt EUV was great in 2022, but you can now get a Leaf for the same price with better styling and range.

I actually think they will carry it forward into the next generation. They’ve applied it to the new Leaf, this seems to be a signature element of Nissan’s design language.

The integrated inverter/charging units used across the E-GMP models have a manufacturing defect that causes them to fail, [rendering the car completely immobile.](https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2024-hyundai-ioniq-6-yearlong-review-update-3-iccu-recall) This is really the first major reliability issue that actually affects the powertrain of an EV, EV recalls have historically been for the batteries or software.

Hyundai has somehow managed to introduce powertrain failures to EVs with their faulty inverters, so I'm not quite sure about them closing the reliability gap in the future.
