It does make me wonder what the contractual obligation was. I imagine they had an agreement with Amazon that they had to deliver X number of episodes of TGT, but then they decided to end it earlier than that number. Then this was the compromise

It’s very clear they did not want to do it and have put minimal effort in as a result. There’s probably less than 5 mins of them commenting outside of the clips.

About the final episode..

The final episode managed to capture a little bit of everything that made the guys great. From Top Gear to the Grand Tour specials and everything in between. You really must watch it.

I think the divorce probably compounded that “lost” feeling. Also, none of his solo TV shows have really taken off. The Workshop is great, but it’s a bit “reality tv” since the first season.

Use it as a lesson to teach them about aspiration & hard work. I grew up with absolutely nothing other than two loving parents who worked their backsides off for very little in return. There was lots we couldn’t afford, but it was always a lesson in “do this today.. practice and perfect.. then in the future you can attain”

The most striking part of the Middle East special is Syria. Many places featured in the show were literally torn to pieces by ISIS within half a decade of the show airing.

What's the furthest distance from London that you'll find a road sign for London?

Posted by siybon@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 287 comments

I was driving on this road yesterday and the exact same thought popped into my head. But tbh, the A31 is pretty much the sole through road of the county, and basically must be followed to access the m27 to get back towards London

Airbus is seriously considering launching a "Super A220" (A220-500) with approximately 180 seats.

I wouldn't be surprised if Airbus have intel that Embraer is about to launch a bigger commercial aircraft that will challenge the A320/737 seat counts, perhaps slightly less than what they are achieving

Idk there’s actually not that much you can do productively on a train that you can’t do in a car (I.e. listening to things or having calls) Using a laptop on a train is a hassle unless you have a guaranteed seat with a table that isn’t awful and your work doesn’t require a consistent internet connection imo obviously

What are the chances Boeing restart C-17 production?

Posted by IntelligentClam@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 39 comments

CharlieH_@reddit

What are the limitations of C17 that would require a clean-sheet design? This is the question that Boeing are probably asking right now. Sure the engines are probably not very efficient and outdated compared to newer models. You can probably make a bigger airframe with newer composite materials. But from a pure operational requirement is there anything that modern militaries need that C17 design didn't offer?

All The Details On Amazon's 'Not Very Grand Tour' Special

Posted by Lanky_Description535@reddit | thegrandtour | View on Reddit | 59 comments

CharlieH_@reddit

This definitely feels like padding out a contractual obligation to Amazon (which I had a suspicion it was when first heard of it) Clarkson probably paid the exit clause or had a different contract so that he doesn’t have to do the studio stuff.

BBC, Amazon, just pick Hamster for lead in next series, FFS.

CharlieH_@reddit

I’d love some more engineering documentaries from him. “Big”, engineering connections and Invisible Worlds are all really well put together and stand up today. I’m very surprised Discovery haven’t commissioned him for something like that - seems like the obvious match (alongside the workshop show)

Who is the most tech savie?

Posted by endangeredpenguin@reddit | thegrandtour | View on Reddit | 21 comments

CharlieH_@reddit

If you pay attention, Clarkson always had pretty cutting edge tech in the top gear era. He bought an iPod with him on many of the early specials. He had an iPhone when the other hosts still had ‘dumb’ phones in 2008/9. Not saying he was good with the tech, but he did keep up with the trends. I’ve a feeling he had a big influence on the tech side of the production of Top Gear too. May not have understood the ‘coal face’ of the detail, but it’s clear he has an interest in it.

Anyone else watching severance?

Jeremy Clarkson's appearances will be limited to his time in the old clips.

Posted by Beneficial_Novel22@reddit | thegrandtour | View on Reddit | 59 comments

CharlieH_@reddit

To me this shows that this "episode" is a contractual obligation to fulfil an episode requirement for Amazon. I think Clarkson is just done with doing anything that he doesn't want to at this point in his life.
