[Video] Richard and Izzy Hammond bring back the Cool Wall!

Richard and Izzy Hammond thought it would be a good idea to have the Cool Wall up and running again, this time for DriveTribe. Given that the Cool Wall was one of the iconic segments of Top Gear, this was an easy decision… 😀

Hammond bought the channel for, what feels like, his daughter to have something to do. Since she joined the channel the content quality went down then Mike Fernie left (his youtube channel is very enjoyable) and I barely watch anything they produce now.

Mike Fernie's channel is a bit naff imo.
He's got charisma, but his dull video subjects are killing me. His views don't seem to be doing well as a result, much better engine channels out there.

Yeah, it's basically a personal blog for the Hammonds now, much like James has Planet Gin and Jeremy's voice is loud enough he just has to stand on a medium sized hill and shout things.

Yeah it's not coming back.
Izzy is a decent host in absolutes and obviously very game, but there are thousands like her in UK media.
In terms of what matters for a car show, she has no cred whatsoever - especially with all the chances she's had being Hammond's daughter.
Even in this video, "What is this" pointing to a Quattro 🤦

That's what I'm saying. She'd probably be a more avuncular Tess Daley etc, but absolutely not suited to any channel or show about automobiles unless they're specifically targeting a similarly aspirational female demographic who want all the good thing about car shows with none of the knowledge or skill.

I think the divorce probably compounded that “lost” feeling.
Also, none of his solo TV shows have really taken off. The Workshop is great, but it’s a bit “reality tv” since the first season.

He also screwed over all the people he went into the workshop business with and they left him. He treated them like associates, not partners which he advertised it to be. He also wanted to focus more on racing and other stupid stuff other than restorations. The divorce just made stuff worse afterwords. He’s in big debt with that workshop and Mindy got herself out of it.
