Went to Zion NP and hiked the arch in a thunderstorm at night to smoke a joint, then ate acid and wandered off into the desert to shoot guns and get laid. Went snowboarding on various Hokkaido volcanoes. Learned how to snowmobile. Saw Iron Maiden on a whim, floor tickets, while dressed in tie-dye and cords because I was on my way home from a hippy festival in northern Washington, accidentally stopping in faux-Bavaria for Oktoberfest the night before. Broke every rule at a highway side boondock spot on the Oregon coast. (No overnight parking, No camping, No fires, No drugs/alcohol, No building of structures, No fireworks)

Such a sad day. After today, the Harrier in USMC service is no more. I'm glad I had many opportunities to catch it.

> "Won't everyone be there selling the same crap?" And once you actually went to a flea market, you realized the answer is "yes." Or at least *attempting* to sell the same crap.

I'd stay up just to watch them! Oh, and the knife collectors show followed by the beanie babies collectors show. Same guys on both shows. They go from "this baby's got a full tang handle and tanto tip!" straight to "this baby's named after Princess Di!"

Why did our parents really make us believe that if we turned on the dome light in a car at night we’d immediately crash and be arrested?

And many of the bright headlights you see aren't street legal anyway. Though the worst offenders are the actual new car ones, and poorly adjusted aftermarket ones. The aftermarket ones are often fine if they are adjusted correctly. But the new car ones are lasers that are fine until they catch your eye just right, then it's like catching a glimpse of a welding arc.

San Bruno Mountain? I grew up in Daly City, and vividly remember big ol' 747s and DC-10s/MD-11s coming in low and slow over my house at night when the winds shifted offshore. Miss it!

Or worse, indoors in filthy semi-abandoned buildings with horrible ventilation and the joy of raver rain. My old gf and I once came home from a party in Oakland, drew a bath, got in, started to get frisky, then freaked out and jumped out because the water was literally black with rave scunge 😅🤢 But oh yes, gotta love the 6am Denny's. Dirt streaks and raccoon eyes and monster faces💀

Nope. Straight guy. And they were gold stars. And we were forced into the tent by Park Rangers who made everyone at our campout get into whatever tent was closest at that moment, under threat of arrest if they saw anyone get out for any reason other than to take a piss. All because an 18 your old boyfriend of one of the girls in our group called the 30 year old black lesbian that was supposed to be kind of our chaperone a word that starts with "N" so she rightfully beat the piss out of him in the middle of the campground and bounced.

I had to climb up to my parents' tiny 2.5 story bathroom window that was 5 ft off both the interior floor, and the roof from which it was accessed, and birth myself through face first, hoping to catch myself before my face did. That was after having to inch along a 12' long, 8" wide shelf 18' in the air outside my bedroom window to access the roof.

Flying is still impressively safe. Less safe than it could be and should be, yes, but still safer than other modes of long distance travel.

The flyer itself was a success in that it kickstarted powered flight, but it was quickly discovered that there were better ways to control an aircraft.

The Wright Flyer and similar early designs like the Santos-Dumont 14-bis essentially had canards. The first real production aircraft with them came 60 years later.

Why not both? Corporate boardrooms love manipulating consumers. It's not even that complex, just a few social media people/bots to plant the seeds or highlight others that say it. It happens with all sorts of issues, so it's no stretch to say they aren't at least boosting it a bit.

I'm convinced the recent push I've seen online to minimize personal environmental accountability in favor of blaming it all on corporations is astroturfing by said corporations. If we all consume less, they make less money. If we all decide we can't make a difference, and keep on consuming more and more, they might get the blame, but they don't give a shit about that, since they get the money too.

We had some science guy stick a flame to a balloon full of air, then hydrogen, then I think propane or natural gas. Pop, fireball, bang. Then same thing with metal jug thingies with corks. Nothing, fireball launched cork, cork shot into the ceiling tiles and stuck there for the rest of my elementary school career.

Probably told this story here before.... There was a kid in the neighborhood that was basically an Xbox Live troll before that was a thing. He'd ride by on his bike and yell something about our moms or whatever, then take off. One day, I happened to be holding a CPS2000 when decided to pull his shit. So anyways, I started blasting. Took him right off his bike. He picked himself and his bike up, yelled some nonsense, and took off. An hour or two later, I was chilling at home when the doorbell rang. My mom answered it. It was him with his dad. His dad said something about how we should be careful, because kid is a whatever belt. My mom didn't miss a beat. Replied "Well then why are you here fighting his battle for him?" Kid never bothered us again, and actually became kinda chill. I vaguely remember going to his house later.

Ha! I got a hotel room on the coast with my old girlfriend for my birthday one year. We decided to order delivery from a local eatery after a joint and a bottle of wine. She offered to call it in. They asked her something while ordering, and she said "Sure!" with a big stoned grin. Then she said "Yeah, that sounds awesome!" Then she got a confused look and said "Yes, please." Then a dejected look as she meekly said, "Oh....Salad." Apparently she thought they were asking her if she wanted a *Super Salad* and she thought that sounded awesome. It was adorable 😅
