Pants TOO baggy??!!

Because my gf wanted to get me some new jeans, she ordered then from Old Navy. She asked what kind i liked, and I said "loose or baggy". They arrived, and holy shit. Those baggy jeans took me back to 1995. I was a rave kid rocking the baggy pants and Adidas. But now, at 45, I absolutely could not. I never thought id be that old guy. Yet, here we are. Those pants are going back. Im just gonna be over here slowly decaying.
Hans_Wermhat666@reddit
I am 43. I would buy JNCOs if they weren't so expensive.
I saw a thing about a midlife crisis is just being who you were as a teen, but enjoying it this time. Thats me. Give me the baggy pants, let's put on the early Deftones and some Will Haven and fucking party. The world is burning and best case scenario, we are halfway done with our march to the grave. Lets just enjoy the time we have before the microplastics leave us with such a significant stroke deficit that we can't feed or clothe ourselves.
Fickle_Wrangler_7439@reddit
Seriously I love that baggy is back. I can get so much shit in my pockets again.
Gonna see if I can find an old math textbook and shove it in a pocket for no reason.
BasvanS@reddit
I’m just going to keep being unfashionable by buying fitted clothes. No trash bag, no sausage.
Why the fuck can’t fashion do normal clothes? I guess the devil really wears Prada
Fickle_Wrangler_7439@reddit
I mean we're old, we can wear whatever we want.
I just want my clothes to be comfortable and roomy.
Hans_Wermhat666@reddit
It is the best. It looks cool and feels comfortable whats not to love?
Possible-Jerk0138@reddit
I just bought a new deftones shirt
Hans_Wermhat666@reddit
I got the re-issue of the old dickies rip off logo, now made by dickies. Also two white pony windbreaker. A button up and a pullover with a hood. Basically a windbreaker hoodie I guess. I also bought 3 new Bane (hardcore band from MA) shirts. I always wore band shirts back in the day... well I never stopped. But its nice to be able to go to a hardcore show and be able to afford buying a couple of shirts and other merch to support the bands. One plus side to aging haha.
Possible-Jerk0138@reddit
I love dickies. I have like three pairs and two jumpsuits. They are rad af. I’m Definitely attracted to them because of influence of that skate culture deftones cholo look.
Hans_Wermhat666@reddit
Definitely. The whole vibe was so cool. I am glad it is coming back and I can buy new versions of it all haha.
Hans_Wermhat666@reddit
Also, finding people in similar age who love the same bands i do makes me totally geek out! So thanks for making my day. What would you say is your favorite deftones record?
Possible-Jerk0138@reddit
Adrenaline but I’ll admit I’m not up to date with their discography
PrncessVespa@reddit
I am also 43 and never really changed how I dress - jeans, band shirts, converse or docs. The cut of the jeans has varied a bit, but that's all.
perfectisthe@reddit
Will Haven mentioned! One of my favorite bands
Hans_Wermhat666@reddit
Aaahhhhh!! I love when I find another Will Haven fan. I always tell people, they should have been at least as big as poison the well. Ptw should have been as big as the deftones. Deftones should be bigger than foo fighters. All love and respect to Dave Grohl though. Will Haven, your favorite band's favorite band.
Dude... they are sooo good. And I love sending a will haven song to some dick who says you can't use a Gibson and tune low. Jeff uses SGs most of the time.
Have you gotten to see them live? I got to see them with Slipknot and Kittie in late 1998. So sick. Mick from Slipknot came out and played If She Could Speak with them.
blackcurrents78@reddit
I’m with you on this one man. I loved them then, but would never now. Like when I see a Dad at school pickup dressed like he’s 15, I’m just embarrassed for him. Looking like some 90’s graffiti character. 😂
Lateralus46N2@reddit
Oh, how I loved my JNCOs. But I do not miss the struggle of wearing baggy ass pants on rainy days
Perfect-Resist5478@reddit
This hit me hard. I lived with wet hems for years
One_Market_9335@reddit
If it feels good, wear it.
moving2mars@reddit
Gap has the best 90s era jeans. I’m not a dude, but I’m living in loose jeans because I am so tired of being squished into stupid pants. PLUS, Gap jeans have pockets.
nothathappened@reddit
I’m also in my straight leg baggy Gap jeans all the time. I either wear these or wide leg anyway. Never barrel, never skinny.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
Gap and Old Navy are owned by the same company. But what? Old Navy jeans no longer have pockets? That was the plus of looser jeans, more stuff could fit in there without bulging outwards.
moving2mars@reddit
Sorry. I didn’t mean to sound rude. My reply sounds rude 😭
moving2mars@reddit
Gap jeans have front pockets that fit a phone. Old navy jeans have front pockets what fit a chapstick. Just because they’re owned by the same company doesn’t mean they’re made the same.
Broad_Tie9383@reddit
I didn't like all of them, but I did really like one of the cuts. I liked that era, where I could only see half my foot, my legs had room, and the bottom of my jeans swished in a satisfying way.
bikeonychus@reddit
YES! MY PEOPLE!
I am currently sat in a pair of baggy Obey jeans I got on sale from the local skate shop, because I am sick and tired of tight jeans that have shitloads of stretch which blows out after 6-12 months.
And the pockets on these could fit the entire contents of my purse, AND my phone.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Same jeans. Old Navy is a discount Gap.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
It felt like an old man trying to re-cspture his youth. That never feels good, whe. You realize har far youre gone from. It.
One_Market_9335@reddit
Got it.
Kyranak@reddit
Got some old navy relaxed fit jeans. Perfect in terms of being baggy, but holy crap they feel so cheap. The denim is super thin.
RickHuf@reddit
Hahahaha
I ordered some long urban camo cargo shorts expecting that they would be below the knee and normal "long" length by todays standards
They were frickin 1999 length and width man. Mid calf and baggy as hell. I was cracking up. Definitely going to wear them with some old Chucky Ts and a Rancid T-shirt to embarrass the children.
jayfornight@reddit
Anyways, try it out. If anything, the comfort will get you.
TrustInRoy@reddit
Unless they are JNCO, you're probably overthinking this
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Thats an exreme. These pants were like the Seymore Solo pants that I wore back then. The pant legs have like an 18" hem.
Dear-Union-44@reddit
I used to Rock 36 inch Hems.. a Tight white Button Up.. tails out.. and White Gloves....
gottarespondtothis@reddit
Pssshh I had 56 inch popple rave pants. Looked like a ballroom skirt and if I undid the drawstring waist all the way I could use them as a sleeping bag 😂
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Add a plaid sweater vest and youre me.
Dear-Union-44@reddit
Eh.. after a few Raves.. I dropped the sweater vest.. because it was too hot.. and I kept leaving them behind.
Where did you ‘Party’? I was in the Toronto area, but before I eventually stopped.
Skerrydude@reddit
The opera house. 🥰
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Socal. Most of our parties were outdoors. Only real old-school folk say "party".
EnvironmentalGift257@reddit
Wait what? "Party" isn't a thing any more?!?
Psychological_Tea674@reddit
My kid is wearing JNCO. 16 yo me is envious.
SimpleVegetable5715@reddit
I never looked good in the super wide leg jeans, I have a big ass. It made the rest of my legs look that wide. I looked way better in the extreme flare legs or bellbottoms.
PB_Natalie@reddit
I bought some loose fit jeans from Old Navy to wear around San Francisco and I matched all the high school kids.
thatlldoyo@reddit
My 14 year old son is all about the JNCO style pants. It’s pretty surreal.
alesplin@reddit
My 14yo daughter wears “big pants” and wears her hair long and curly/wavy and I swear I can hear my busted-ahh old Walkman eating my Nevermind cassette all over again
elphaba00@reddit
My 13 year old cut off her hair (to her shoulders) at the start of 6th grade, but it's back to where it was before the cut. She usually wears it in a low ponytail, but she's been working on low, messy buns.
I don't think she ever takes off her bone conduction headphones. I'm not sure if the school even asks.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
I used to wear Walkman headphones on the bus. No Walkman, just the headphones so nobody would try to talk to me.
Blackbird136@reddit
I do this with noise-cancelling headphones on planes sometimes to this day lol.
elphaba00@reddit
My 13 year old wants a pair of JNCO pants, but she hasn't gotten there yet. She does love the baggy look and the boy cut. She'll pair them with band T-shirts and either her Docs or Converse.
My Boomer mom keeps asking her if she has body esteem issues. "Why all the baggy?"
ShakesDontBreak@reddit
Ed Hardy is back in style.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
My gfs son is 19. He refused to believe that jnco werent always available, until the late 90s. Before that, we ravers had to MAKE our clothes.
Allaplgy@reddit
I was listening to some old Incubus on YouTube the other day And saw a comment about the DJ being "ahead of his time for wearing a mask in 1997." 😅😷🪩
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Hahahaa!! The masks were a necessity. Those parties were outside, in rhe dirt. Putting vicks vapor rub inside them was just a way to make wearing the mask enjoyable. It always cracked me up when I would see the ravers at a Dennys the next morning g and they have those dirt streaks on the sides of their noses from the mask.
Allaplgy@reddit
Or worse, indoors in filthy semi-abandoned buildings with horrible ventilation and the joy of raver rain.
My old gf and I once came home from a party in Oakland, drew a bath, got in, started to get frisky, then freaked out and jumped out because the water was literally black with rave scunge 😅🤢
But oh yes, gotta love the 6am Denny's. Dirt streaks and raccoon eyes and monster faces💀
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
I got so much love for you and our shared experiences. Raver rain was gross.
Allaplgy@reddit
Don't look up! 🤮
nucl3ar0ne@reddit
KRoadkil@reddit
You must got back to your JNCO roots
ZipperJJ@reddit
I got some "barrel leg" pants from Old Navy and I seriously never want to take them off. I feel so ME in them!
CoffeeHQ@reddit
It’s so weird now, when you walk around and just look at people’s clothes:
- baggy? Gen Z / Gen A.
- socks visible (aka pants too short)? Millennial.
- slim fit / skinny? Xennial / Early Millennial.
Every. Time.
eat_like_snake@reddit
I'll take baggy jeans any day.
"Oh, but you're too old."
Let me check the back for some fuck stock. Nope. Still outta fucks.
I'll be nice and comfortable instead of worrying about the insignificant opinions of irrelevant people.
ambercrayon@reddit
There is a line where comfort turns into annoyingly flappy, and current style has hit it so the next generation can learn that lesson.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Everybody wants to be cool and wear baggy comfortable jeans. Until you walk through one puddle and get the scoop wave of water on your socks and have to walk around with squishy feet all day.
RiotPurrrl@reddit
I was fully on board with skinny jeans for reasons that still baffle me. I tried some on recently and dear god they’re uncomfortable. Just full on leg prisons. I’m never wearing anything but baggy jeans ever again and I don’t care how old I am.
DHN_95@reddit
This is kind of off topic, but as a whole, we're still ok with slim-fit jeans, right?
Plumeria9798@reddit
I say wear WTF you like!
transfer6000@reddit
I am currently back in school, in September when I walked into my first day and saw how these kids dressed it took me right back to high school
siiilenttbob@reddit
SignificantApricot69@reddit
Being in my 40s and in shape, I’m wearing straight fit or slim straight (not skinny). I still have some jeans from the ‘90s but they are more like what the cast of Friends wore. I never did JNCO, but I wore baggy/loose cut SilverTab and the 568 or 569 Levi’s or whatever the numbers were back then for loose/baggy.
Where whatever you want imho, even cargo pants or jorts if that’s your thing, but I hit a certain age (without going into dad jeans territory) that 1. I’m not going to spend a lot of money chasing fashion trends or do it in general, and timeless well-fitting clothes last forever with how I take care of them. 2. Clothes that fit well just look better on me. I grew up going through a very awkward puberty like a lot of us and I got really chubby around 13-15 and wearing baggy jeans and big shirts were in but also a way to hide my body and insecurities and even though I’ve most outgrown that body for close to 30 years I’ve always felt like the fat, short, outcast, while objectively somehow in my mid-40s I look better than I ever have. So I’m going to embrace that wearing clothes that fit and have a more timeless look and feel (and to be clear I also feel more comfortable in “fitted” clothing)
Inspi@reddit
I never stopped the loose or regular or casual or whatever fit jeans. Same with loose fitting shirts.
Why anyone wants to be crammed into skinny jeans or slim fit shirts is beyond my comprehension.
attigirb@reddit
It was really hard to find anything but skinny jeans (or high rise) in stores for a very long time. I was delighted when wider/looser fits came back in stores.
Inspi@reddit
Online is your friend.
Walmart/Target before that.
attigirb@reddit
Even online it was difficult to find.
VTRibeye@reddit
I am back in baggy pants and very happy about it. Got a smart pair on today with pleats, super-comfy but fine for work.
CaptianBrasiliano@reddit
TheJokersWild53@reddit
When I saw they were making baggy jeans again I bought three pairs. I am so glad the era of skinny jeans is over.
attigirb@reddit
Yup. Wide leg forever.
EnvironmentalGift257@reddit
I can kind of deal with skinny jeans. The era of women wearing low rise jeans needs to never come back.
Wife_Trash@reddit
The teens are trying to bring them back. Have been seeing a few kids wearing them.
EnvironmentalGift257@reddit
Bringing back low rise? Noooooooooo
vinylchickadee@reddit
They aren't that kind of low rise though, these kids can actually sit fully upright in them without exposing themselves!
But I agree, death to low rise. I will take a high rise that goes almost up to my boobs though. I want it to feel like a corset when I sit down. 😂
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
I could never wear clingy clothes. Im just so far from the baggy look. Im like a professional with a 30 year career. I can't be looking all "what's up fellow kids?!"
djdecimation@reddit
I wear band shirts and baggy shorts with a wallet chain. I don't care.
Fickle_Wrangler_7439@reddit
Man I thought Covid killed "dressing like a professional."
I haven't worn "professional clothes" in probably 8 years.
OP, send me your baggy pants. I send you my office clothes from 2015 that I never wear.
EnvironmentalGift257@reddit
I bought the "Music Band" shirt that Steve Buscemi is wearing in the meme and it's one of my favorites.
NJ2SD@reddit
I saw a teenager wearing a Stüssy shirt the other day, and I had to snap a pic to show my friends. I haven't seen one damn near in 30 years.
I was also standing on line behind a middle-aged dad last night who had baggy jeans and a backwards cap. I guess it's time for 1996 to make a comeback.
wookiesack22@reddit
Stretchy jeans loose fit are a game changer. I can't wear regular jeans anymore
NoInvestment3870@reddit
My 12 year old got some ultra baggy pants & I told him “Hey bud you’re not doing the right proportions, let’s get you something that looks better on ya”.
“…/sigh dad you don’t get it”
“lol you little bastard, I was wearing this type of stuff long before you were born”.
He’s like maybe 5”4 100lbs and trying to run 36/38.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
Gotta teach em. I mean... we learned that wearing bigger pants wasnt a good thing because then youre relying heavily on a belt. When it comes to running from the cops, never leave it up to a belt. But I'm sure thats not how youre gonna teach you kid.
whereugoincityboy@reddit
About 25 years ago I watched the police pull up across the street from my house. There was a young man with baggy pants who took off running. He made it about 20 feet before his pants fell off and they nabbed him. Also, on my first date with the guy I ended up marrying, he picked me up and as we were walking to his car his pants fell completely off. Baggy was HOT.
NoInvestment3870@reddit
Nah…okay I’ll admit this comment gave me pause, since I come from a multigenerational cop family & yup they all had a “This dumbass tripped on his pants” story . So yeah, you’re absolutely right & now I’m quietly sipping a beer and thinking about the past.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
I come from a multigenerational family who made the need for more cops a thing. Its nice when a yang meets a yin.
NoInvestment3870@reddit
lol they spent more time when I was a teen talking about how the entire system was screwed up. Then the reasons I should never ever ever go into their field of work.
It was the belt comment that really pulled it all back, made me recall all of the “Hey I ain’t saying how you could get away with something, but here’s how you definitely get caught” advice.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
My JNCOs were good but my nylon Kikwear rave pants were better. As an adult I found joggers, which are essentially the rave pants in cargo pants camo. Comfy as hell. I wear them with my Korn shirt and my Adidas. I'm not in to cosplaying as proper white collar TV adult, that's all bullshit.
psilosophist@reddit
This has never been an issue for me because I've never had a pair of pants that fit correctly in my life, I was always short with short legs so no matter what my pants were always too long, or too short, and definitely always too baggy.
Dear-Union-44@reddit
lol... I see Children rocking the jeans I used to wear..I also heard a bunch of HS kids listening to Nickelback... fucking Nicklelback... while I was working today.
I so wanted to turn around and start singing to the song.. But I couldn't, They were and are a great band, it's why we got so sick of them.. we couldn't escape them while listening to the radio..
instant_ramen_chef@reddit (OP)
50+ million albums sold. The mad hate is funny. Lots of closeted nicklebackers out there.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
Nickleback is trash. They just proved if you don't play anything else on the radio then most people will just "like" what's on. The marketing team behind their success deserves to be in the marketing hall of fame.
Dear-Union-44@reddit
There was/is a documentary about Nickleback on Netflix.. and at some points it was like every 30 seconds a Nickeback song would start on some radio station.. everywhere.
fillumcricket@reddit
I just "forced" my husband (by forced, I mean ordered a couple pairs for him) to try on some regular fit Levi 501s, as an alternative to the slim fit 511s he's been wearing basically since Trainspotting came out. He was so, so hesitant, but when he realized how much more freely he could move around, he was sold.
I happily moved on to wide leg jeans a few years ago, so glad to leave skinny jeans behind. I'm honestly surprised he was the hold out.
Secret_Elevator17@reddit
There are more styles than just skinny or wide.
Straight leg and boot cut tend to be more classic middle ground if you aren't chasing the trendy fashion of the moment.
fillumcricket@reddit
Yes, in my comment I said I got him some regular fit to try, not wide leg. It was just hard for him to accept that slim fit is not trendy any more.
