How do I save time at pharmacy?

Interesting! I'd definitely noticed it being applied a little while ago but it has got more stringent recently. Fingers crossed you get missed off this delightful upgrade! 🤣 As it happens, I left an inhaler at home while travelling and my other one was on it's last legs. I've just had to go via French prescribing and it did largely happen as OP suggests, albeit I had to go to two pharmacies as one didn't have what I needed in stock.

I've just had to go through the process of getting a prescription sorted in France and I was grateful if somewhat astonished that I could just have the things handed to me.

As a patient, if you use the NHS App, you will see repeat prescriptions greyed out until such time as is deemed 'reasonable' based on your usage, dosage and date of last issue. I have three things on regular prescription, only one of which I am actually able to order, and I have less than a month's supply left. It can take up to two weeks (albeit it's usually only 3-4 days) to get the prescription processed from request to receiving meds so you have to be really mindful of timing and you can't order something in advance if you're going away. I used to be able to just order early and know I'd have enough to cover a trip away plus getting back. I'm away at the moment and to ensure I can continue with my medication seamlessly I'll have to put in a repeat prescription request before I'm heading home.

What is your WFH morning routine?

My partner and I co-own and run a business from home and subsequently any routine I had when I was in a Proper Job has now gone out the window. We are currently working/holidaying in France and any routine I might have had is even more loosey-goosey!

What weird names do you call your partner/ do they call you? And I mean.. really weird.

Indeed! To be fair 'wy' is a particularly difficult one if you've never thought about what sound a 'w' makes! For example the 'w' in 'wy' is more akin to the 'w' in 'how'... as are most Welsh 'w' sounds.

Not gritted teeth no. It's 'oi' but at at the front of the mouth, rather than from the back (where the 'o' sound would be naturally when you say 'oi'). The 'w' isn't strong or forced.

There's not really the "ay" sound you describe, and it's a single syllable. It's closer to 'oi' but with a more closed mouth.

Maybe with P20 but that definitely wasn't an option at the time! And to be fair, I do this with most sunscreen when I can and i've still had issues with the long lasting ones staining or making my clothes smell. Or maybe I've got a really sensitive nose.

Yep. I used it in the Alps while hiking and it lasted forever but my t-shirts were ruined by the end. Any of the long-lasting sunscreens leave either staining, smell or both.

Did parents in the 80’s have it much easier?

Posted by gponter79@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 143 comments

msmoth@reddit

'79 as well. We didn't have the funds for lots of experiences or holidays so we'd get the odd day trip to a local-ish beach or country park but otherwise had to make our own entertainment. Being bored, or at least saying we were bored was met with some of the classic "only boring people get bored" style comebacks. My mum was a single parent from the mid-80s which affected loads of things but it did mean she was pretty present even if she wasn't able to afford lots of day trips etc. With that said, there were far fewer options for kids than there are now. The nearest theme parks, for example, would have been a full day's driving or an overnight stay.

Ladies: do you wear make up to work?

Posted by LunaValley@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 880 comments

I used to when I worked in an office. Once I moved to home-based I largely stopped, although would still put a face on for in-person meetings. I did feel more 'put together' with makeup on, but I didn't wear a heavy, full glam face at work ever.

How often do you get a takeaway?

Posted by Lozzybops@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 774 comments

msmoth@reddit

Hardly ever! I guess we'd go out for food more often than we'd get takeaway to eat at home. We don't do a lot of work related travelling and for non-work travel we'd default to some sort of sandwich or salad rather than McD's etc.

I have just been downgraded from Kind Regards to Regards and I am not sure if I should call HR or a lawyer?

I've been quite interested in their long distance hiking trails, but the sections often seem to spit you out on a road in the middle of nowhere and then you have to hitchhike to the next town (and back again to the trailhead whenever you're next setting off) which is understood locally, obviously but what on earth do you do if you can't get picked up? Or get picked up by someone unsavoury?

Has anyone here been an extra in a film?

Posted by Appropriate_Fox_841@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 64 comments

msmoth@reddit

I was an extra in a [Welsh folk horror type film](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darklands_(film)) in the late 90s. My friend's sister had to find a crowd so a few of us crowded. No pay, feel like we did get some food. It got a bit cold standing around and clapping/cheering. A couple of semi-famouses were in it. Not a patch on some of my friends later in life who were zombies in Shaun of the Dead.

Are cake sheds appearing all over the uk, or is it just happening in my area ?

What DIY mishaps or odd choices did the previous owners of your house leave for you to discover?

Posted by naalbinding@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 149 comments

msmoth@reddit

Ooh we have a few! Single skin extension built to the side of the kitchen. A drain inspection cover in it had been cemented shut but everything from the kitchen (sink, washing machine, dishwasher) were all draining directly into this drain which had been all but completely blocked up for probably years. They fitted *enormous* sinks in the bathroom and downstairs loo. They're so big they impede access to the downstairs loo in particular. Bathroom sink was against the wall under the window so nowhere to fit a mirror. The electrics in the garage were safer and better fitted than the electrics in the house. A load of kitchen appliances were wired to the wrong circuits. They'd also fitted an induction hob - not my favourite but fine, except it's not parallel to the kitchen wall and not flush with the worktop so collects dirt and crumbs all around the edges. Patio slabs were 'laid' in the back garden just directly onto bare earth with no aggregate/sand/anything used. The funniest stuff though came when we stripped the wallpaper on the stairs and landing and found tiny pieces of paper that had been used to patch areas where they'd not cut the correct amount. It was like a badly wrapped gift.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986?

Posted by NotSoF4stCvnt@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 287 comments

msmoth@reddit

No caning in my junior school, just shouting. The headmistress of my infants school (equivalent of Reception/Y1/Y2) would smack naughty kids on the bum in front of the whole school if they'd been misbehaving in assembly. I went to secondary school in 1990 and there were always rumours of physical punishments but these were only seen very rarely. No permission was sought from parents - it was a very in-the-moment thing.

Other than your (grand)parents, did you refer to other family members by their relationship to you rather than their name?

Aunts & Uncles. Great Aunts & Uncles were also called "Aunty/Uncle" as were a lot of adults who were friends of the family.

Mid-40s and I use kg. Growing up it was stones & pounds but I switched about 20 years ago. Cooking I learned at home in oz and lbs but at school in grams so I can do either, but would default to metric.
