How far would the shops have to be for you to consider taking the car?

As someone who has lived in both a city, Salford for uni, and a small village, less than 2k people, i feel good to answer. In the village we had 3 corner shops....one at each end of the main road and one in the middle. You wouldn't fill up your fridge, too expensive, but you could get some milk. Unless you wanted to walk along an A road you had to drive or get a bus which would be aprox 30mins drive so a while to walk and crazy unsafe. At uni, i lived above a corner shop, great for milk but thats it, again wildly expensive. Didnt drive and even if i did no parking ect, so i had to walk about 40 minutes to the shops and back and it was hard! So, for my morning cereal (as i dont drink coffee) i would not walk longer than 10 minutes. Because its just not worth it for one item, and if its a hot day and you're in the sun....do you really want to walk an hour holding some milk?? Youd get home to cheese! Max id get from a corner shop 10 minuets away would be milk, bread/cereal, and some form of easy dinner, like pizza or garlic bread. Otherwise i dont have it in me to walk and carry a full shop back on an empty body and its not worth the walk for 3 items alone. Now! If i am out of the house already and by the shop, like on my way home from work, them easy to just grab one or two things and walk back, as youd be walking back anyway. So 10 minutes walk, if walking there and back. 30 minutes walk if only walking one way.
