Correct. Both are big cool-looking practical rowdy muscle barges. They’re not even that different. When I first started car shopping for my GTI, other cars on my list included C5 Z06 and 4Runner.

People love to call it a dressed-up Grand Highlander, but Lexus really nailed the [TX] refinement back then. Ride quality, noise isolation, overall feel — it was a different experience. I’m drawing a parallel that is either blatantly obvious or highly controversial. But I would bet in 35 years we will say the same about the Grand Highlander/TX.

What Car brand produces the worst base model in terms of features?

gluten_heimer@reddit

To be honest, I suspect that if they had always included more of the options as standard features, and the base price was what it would be for a base car + all those options, no one would care. Because no one would know. I think people only care because the itemization of each cost is so visible.

Porsche. Heated seats, paint colors that are not white or black, and more than two directions of seat adjustment are just some of the many options on a six-figure base price car. The 991-based 935 came standard with dual-zone climate control, but a passenger seat was a $13k option.

Chevy Nomad. A 2-door wagon with a Corvette V8? Hell yes. 2-door 90s Tahoe, which is essentially a single cab pickup with an enclosed bed with rear seats. There is zero market for something that gets 11 mpg and has inaccessible rear seats, but it’d be so cool.

The linked article doesn’t make that point at all. It says that the minority of EV owners who don’t plan to get another EV for their next vehicle primarily cite inconvenience and depreciation as the reasons.

Yeah the initial quality ones are a bit silly. The way I understand it is they essentially give the same weight to “did the engine fall out and explode?” and “are you annoyed about the process to connect your phone via Bluetooth?”

While I think all J.D. Power “studies” should be taken with a grain of salt, this doesn’t surprise me. With EVs declining in growth rate (and with more information about the reality of owning/leasing them), the people who buy them are more likely to know what they’re getting into, and therefore more likely to want what an EV offers. In other words, EVs are more being bought by people who *really* want EVs, so it makes sense that they’d buy another one.

Lamborghini pulls plug on plans to launch all-electric supercar

Posted by Iron_Burnside@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 306 comments

gluten_heimer@reddit

What do you mean that they aren’t close to technologically viable? If you had said this when the electric SLS was still the most advanced super-EV, I’d agree with you, but now I’m not understanding. I think the bigger issue is no one wants electric supercars. At least in the forms we’ve seen so far. The thing about supercars is they need to be not just fast, but special. If an automaker could find a way to make something other than the drivetrain truly unique and special (like for example the Spyker C8’s styling and interior) I can see there being a market for it. A niche one, but one nonetheless.

gluten_heimer@reddit

I was curious so I looked this up. The consensus seems to be that one engine idle hour is about equal to 30 miles (if anyone has a better source, please let me know). This means that the engine idle hours are equivalent to an *additional* 77k miles. So in essence this is a 141k-mile, 11-year-old, even worse than base spec V6 Charger with an accident history. I did a nationwide search on Autotrader for V6 Chargers 2015 and newer and sorted by mileage, highest first. The asking price actually seems to be fairly in line with what I could see, though there is a lot of variance. Therefore, the car seems to be priced appropriately for the market. Should you buy it? Absolutely not.

Honda CR-V. It’s ugly and boring to look at at the same time. It’s anemic, clumsy, and noisy. The interior is cheap feeling and the seats suck. And it’s not as reliable as a RAV4. And they are driven exclusively by old people or oblivious drivers.
