A New Charger Hellcat Is Coming With Over 700 Horsepower

The charger hellcat is finally coming back. I wonder how much it will cost, I feel like the current Charger Sixpacks current biggest challenge is having to compete against the Durango RT 392 price wise. They're not selling well and have big discounts already

This sub morphed in /trucks and suvs quite a while ago.
AdvisorLimp3296@reddit
I wonder if they’ll be harder to steal this time.
mustangfan12@reddit (OP)
I'd hope so, they have a whole new electronics system
IsTheShibaInU@reddit
Harder to steal, but even easier for Stellantis to play in-car ads on! Hooray!
Seeker80@reddit
Thieves might give them back.
pongobuff@reddit
Oil changes and in nav so far...
nbaumg@reddit
I hope so. Mine legit lasted only 3 weeks. I wish I was kidding

Comes pre-stolen. New feature.
phoenix823@reddit
Ok. Again?
kstetter@reddit
New platform so it took a while to add a V8
phoenix823@reddit
Ok, I needed that context. Thank you.
Fettekatze@reddit
New Charger body looks great. Widebody with fatass tires will look cool as shit.
rekniht01@reddit
And nearly the length of a 70s LTD.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Lengthwise, the 206" Charger would've been considered a mid-size in the '70s.
Sandy_Koufax@reddit
People who whine about how cars are too big forget how huge cars were in the 60s and 70s before gas made cars tiny.
InfinitePossibility8@reddit
The problem is less the footprint than the proportions.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Most people here weren't even alive in the '90s, let alone the '70s.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Not all of us lived through the 60’s and 70’s Sandy Koufax. Hah, just messin’ though. Cats were huge back then.
Koufax is the goat BTW.
jaredthegeek@reddit
It’s shorter than the 1869 Charger.
aprtur@reddit
I'd hope so, because in 1869 that was probably a train.
Vhozite@reddit
Dodge was definitely around back then.

jaredthegeek@reddit
Damon it.

I give up, auto correct wins.

Duck autocorrect!!!
Edit: Damon it.

Sorry, you set me up on the second one, I couldn't help myself...lol

I deserved it and it was well played anyway.

Thee_Sinner@reddit
I feel like I’m the only one the doesn’t like it :/ it looks like a first draft of the previous generation to me
BaconSpinachPancakes@reddit
It still looks to me like a charger/challenger mashup and it’s a bit off putting. I do like it tho
Sad_Cumme@reddit
The problem is they use the same chassis for the 2 door as the 4 door. If you look at the side profile of the 2 door, it’s very disproportionate and it still has the roofline of the 4 door. It makes it look very awkward, it is a very compromised design.
Vhozite@reddit
I’m with you. It’s bigger and looks worse than the last gen.
Fettekatze@reddit
As far as recent car releases go, one could do a lot worse.
crossandbones@reddit
I’m not a fan of the new look. The front end looks bad and the rear is okay at best in my opinion.
chameleon_olive@reddit
Have you seen it in person? I had the exact same opinion until I got to walk around one, pictures really hurt this car for some reason
Vhozite@reddit
I’ve seen in both on the road and up close at the local auto show. The front end looks dorky and the rest of it my only real impression is that it’s big for the sake of being big. Some people like that but it’s not my thing. Vastly prefer the last gen Challenger and Charger.
somedude456@reddit
I rode in one, at a drift event. The driver then asked what I thought. He failed to properly drift the full course, so I was honest: Seems the performance matches the looks, they really fucked up an iconic car. He said something like "I miss the old ones too."
crossandbones@reddit
I haven’t seen it in person yet. I hope the design does grow on me in person.
mishap1@reddit
Didn't people say that because it is already 79.8" wide it can't be wide-bodied because then it exceeds 80" making it a heavy vehicle under federal laws meaning it needs clearance lights like a Ram TRX or Raptor.
Fettekatze@reddit
Awesome
ryanissognar@reddit
Its funny cause the ev charger with the track pack already has 325 rears...widebody gonna be viper tires...
Fettekatze@reddit
345s here we come.
Alliseeisgold24@reddit
Atlanta is gonna love this!
phdiesel_@reddit
As someone who leases an EV Charger lived in West Midtown for a few months with it….Atlanta did indeed love it. Never gotten so much attention in a car before
Add a Hellcat engine to it and you immediately become the king of the city.
Eespinoza10@reddit
Same 30 year old chasis right? Just updated body lines
kstetter@reddit
New chassis
Admiral_Pantsless@reddit
Same 20 year old engine though.
Armored_Guardian@reddit
Can they fit AWD with the Hellcat?
Admiral_Pantsless@reddit
Hopefully not.
Handsum_Rob@reddit
Even better, make it selectable, like BMW where you can turn into rwd when smokey burnouts are needed.
kstetter@reddit
It already is selectable with the I6 version
jrileyy229@reddit
You think the charger is competing with the Durango?
Admiral_Pantsless@reddit
They’re both 5,000+lb AWD barges now.
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
People don't cross-shop bodystyles as strictly as enthusiasts compare vehicles online. As a random example, I recall the second generation Buick LaCrosse's most cross-shopped competitor at one point was the.....Chevrolet Equinox.
I'd absolutely believe a decent portion of customers looking at Chargers at least glance at Durangos.
jrileyy229@reddit
Lacrosse and equinox are basically the same car... Chargers and Durangos are not
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
Dodge literally advertised the Durango alongside the Challenger and Charger at various points to draw a connection in the public consciousness of them being a trio of "muscle vehicles". Like a muscle car, the Durango has been available with a suite of V-8s, stripes, uses similar naming conventions (SRT, Hellcat, Jailbreak, etc), all of it. The Equinox is no more like the LaCrosse than a Durango was to a Charger in any case.
Larcye@reddit
People on this subreddit are delusional. People cross shop all kinds of shit that aren't at all in the same category.
jrileyy229@reddit
It's a pedestrian sedan and a pedestrian crossover small SUV.
Versus a muscle car and a three row SUV.
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
A Durango 392 with available racing stripes isn't exactly a Highlander.....
jrileyy229@reddit
Why do you keep mentioning stripes? Who gives a hoot?
Anyone can put stripes on anything. It's tacky and stupid. You're still comparing two cars that make sense to cross shop with two cars that don't
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
The point I am making, and I'll make it my final one on this side topic, is that Dodge very much positions the Durango as a kind of "muscle SUV", utilizing stylistic details and naming connections to draw a clear thematic throughline between their most famous muscle cars and how they want the public to view the Durango.
The consumer is not interested in what we hardcore enthusiasts proclaim "makes sense to cross-shop". Anyone who's sold cars can tell you that much.
jrileyy229@reddit
While that's true, all companies do it... Raptor, cayenne turbo S, whatever.. nobody cross shops a mustang with a raptor.. or a 911 with a cayenne, or a charger with a Durango.
Can confirm sold cars... Never had someone cross shopping a Corvette with a trailblazer SS... Despite the fact they both had an LS2
mustangfan12@reddit (OP)
Technically it isn't, but it has many of the characteristics that Charger buyers want like the V8. And the Durango V8 is cheaper than the Sixpack, which shouldn't be the case
jrileyy229@reddit
So one thing constitutes "many characteristics"?
mustangfan12@reddit (OP)
The V8 engine was one of the main reasons why people bought Chargers
jrileyy229@reddit
One does not equal many.
I would argue they liked the car and the l look and the niche, and with that came the V8. Now a turbo 6 replaces it that makes significantly more power, can do even more takeover drifting and make just as loud of a noise
Toucann_Froot@reddit
Charger or challenger? I don't get this shit
Lilmumblecrapper@reddit
New charger is awful IMO. Hopefully the new Camaro will look good and eat its lunch.
Masta_Wayne@reddit
To be fair, it's not like the new Charger has very much lunch to eat. They aren't selling very well. The Camaro will mainly have to beat out the Mustang if it wants anyone's lunch.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Challenger should return and become real pony car like OG one. It isn’t just about more affordable, it also can have better fun driving.
Lilmumblecrapper@reddit
Are you a bot?
crossandbones@reddit
Affordability is part of the history of the car. Chevy got it right with having the Camaro and Corvette for different price points. Ford is asking for wild prices without any competition in that market.
Lilmumblecrapper@reddit
Well I meant eat it’s lunch in quarter mile times.
FrozenUruguayBallbac@reddit
Here is what I hope, they move the Hurricane I6 to a midsized sedan as an M3 killer and for this one ramp up the power on the 5.7 to 480 for the RT and ramp up the 6.4 hemi to 500+ for the Scat pack, this one is the all out insane thing. I also hope they can focus on Aero, weight reduction and handling. Please do, the weight reduction and stiff rear suspension helps for drag racing! quicker 0-60 and less rear squat.
Round_Ad_6369@reddit
Where do you expect them to magically pull 100hp from for the 5.7?
randeus@reddit
480 hp out of the 5.7 lol
srtftw@reddit
No one’s buying these new Chargers. If this won’t get them to the dealers, I expect some heavy discounts on those lower trims. Might be a good time to snag an RT at an even better price.
crossandbones@reddit
Completely agree.
Business-Animal4966@reddit
they just should have never made the ev model. the ev model has so many compromises adding weight, I think it's literally hundreds of lbs in terms of structural bracing and dual batteries. The hurricane is a brilliant engine, and if the car was 42-4300 lbs instead of 4800, it would do 0-60 under 3 seconds with awd and room for 4 for just under 50k
kilertree@reddit
I don't think they had a choice with the rules on emissions.
Sandy_Koufax@reddit
And the old CEO was obsessed with fuel efficiency.
1TheBrownMan@reddit
Most people I talk to don't even know there is an ice version of the charger. They think its ev only.
kstetter@reddit
It's sad, the Hurricane is a great six cylinder
jaredthegeek@reddit
As someone that likes EVs I agree. It was weird. I love the body but the EV version is terrible.
tyrannosaurus_r@reddit
It’s much improved. Still not great, objectively, but it’s now serviceable enough that I can enjoy it for what it is.
Damn if that fake exhaust doesn’t still get a smile out of me.
andrewia@reddit
I heard one at an EV dealer and was very impressed. You could only hear a hint of tinniness, plus some electric noises that they play under the engine noises.
jaredthegeek@reddit
They are cheap where I am too. Down to like $45k for a new Scat Pack. It’s cheaper to buy than the lease deals.
perkele_possum@reddit
The bigger problem is that it's expensive as shit now. Most chargers were V6s that you could buy new under $30k any day of the week and get okay gas mileage on the highway. Now you can't find one under $50k and the most base versions have serious power and dooky gas mileage.
Mustangs are mostly ecoboosts and that $30k model is still there.
Qcumber1860@reddit
Same vehicle for what 20 years now .??
kstetter@reddit
New platform, the cheapest version has 420hp
Qcumber1860@reddit
Its the same body...same Chager..Dodge is dead what else do they have ? A 20 yr old Durango model
chameleon_olive@reddit
It's literally not, nice try though
kstetter@reddit
New body, new platform, new engine, new everything
MBolero@reddit
The US Auto industry is in steep decline.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Making fun cars and halo cars can save their loyal fans and reputation. I don’t think that’s a bad move for Chrysler.
hundredjono@reddit
The European CEO running Stellantis steps down and Stellantis immediately does a 180 by introducing a performance truck, new Copperhead sports car, new SRT models, and now a new Hellcat.
I wish some other CEO that runs one of the Big 3 would step down... you know, the one that's in charge of the company that's been sued numerous times for AFM.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
I do like Peugeot sides getting more fun car models too, 308 GTi and Astra OPC/VXR should come back too.
Supernova_Soldier@reddit
Neat. I kinda like the body style. I hope they do something about how easy it is to steal though
1nconspicious@reddit
Hopefully awd will be an option, would easily be the most insane Charger ever built.
mustangfan12@reddit (OP)
AWD is going to be standard
whitevwjetta@reddit
I’d hope it would have more power than the previous one
Mustang2883738828278@reddit
Now we’re fuckin talking. I do hope they offer a cheaper V8 offering tho.
chlronald@reddit
With how EV giving better and cheaper HP and straight line performance this kind of muscle cars are losing its charm.
Id say ICEV should focus more on handling and cornering where EV is still lacking.
kstetter@reddit
They already have an ICE version
8rings_86k@reddit
Ghettos across America rejoice
hiscapness@reddit
For the 300 people who can afford one, or think they can before it’s repo’d.
RoyalISF@reddit
Curious what the price will be and if they’ll have trouble moving them. Doubt it but we’ll see
Eggith@reddit
Top of the line new Charger is hovering around $64,000 iirc. New Hellcat will probably start at $80,000 and push into mid $100,000 for whatever crackpot special editions they conjour up
RoyalISF@reddit
Sheesh, good luck to them. Hopefully they make it distinctive - I can’t tell when I see one now if it’s electric or gas
cubs223425@reddit
That's generally been a GOOD thing for Dodges, IMO. What matters is whether or not it looks good. You could get a V6 Charger/Challenger and have something that PRETTY MUCH looked as cool as a Hellcat. Meanwhile, Chevy sold the Camaro with a hideous front-end in its RS trim, and even the SS was just decent. The ZL1 was easily the best-looking of the bunch, but also commanded about double what the RS did.
IAmWellBehaved@reddit
If they'd actually price it reasonably (for what it is, say mid-to-high-80s) with one of the higher output Hellcat engines and all the aggressive design upgrades you'd want, I think that'd be a pretty great package. All around performance will likely be superior in the Dark Horse SC, but they are seriously expensive. If Dodge prices it like that, it'll be a mistake.
marksocials97@reddit
Going to guess a 85k-90k starting price. The new Ram Rebel Hellcat is reportedly going to start at 85k
DaBanninator@reddit
To the surprise of no one.
