People would have complained about that too but at least that makes a little more sense. The Thunderbird has been a 4 door before and there's the whole electricity thing going on.
Current Ford Maverick. The original Maverick was a 'compact' (for the 70s) passenger car. Looked like a bloated Vega in the 2 door configuration. As for the 4 door...just plain wrong. Anyway...
Why did Ford not resurrect the "Ranchero" name? The Ranchero was the original "coupe utility", produced before the more famous El Camino. What's next? A crappy version of the Focus called the Focus II and featured in the next 'Charlie's Angels' movie?
And it should just be the Polo EV, ID means nothing and genuinely never will to anybody. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel just keep it turning when it comes to branding of cars.
I'm the other way around here, I think vw and BMW isn't doing too bad in the name department simply because they don't call their electric cars E, EV or something even dumber like e-tron or lightning. ID or I not having anything with electricity feels like they aren't screaming "look at me! I'm better cause I drive an EV!"
Strong disagree, Lightning and e-tron are probably two of the cooler EV names on the market. Those are badass without even needing electric vehicle connotations. BMW’s i-series at least makes sense. VW has always used actual names yet the “ID” names range from numbers, to sounds, to actual existing models. That’s just flat out confusing and bad.
The “e-tron” no longer exists it was renamed Q8 e-tron. While nonsense the e-tron GT, S e-tron GT, and RS e-tron GT are all the same vehicle so outside of that 1 model the e-tron brand is pretty much only a suffix to models. The GT is the only one that should be renamed to something WAY cooler tho. That’s not that awful at least it’s a cool word
The LaFerrari and 12 Cilindri, as well as pretty much every other model of a new Ferrari.
The more tolerable ones are just simple number or letter combinations like 488 GTB or the F80. But the stupider ones have a silly nickname that follow like the SuperFast.
The Toyota bZ4X. It sounds less like a car and more like someone lost a fight with a WiFi password. Perfectly decent vehicles have been killed by less hostile names.
BZ was for the Beyond Zero subbrand, 4 was to denote its pecking order within subbrand, and X was indeed because it’s a crossover.
Toyota had planned to introduce more BZ cars, but it seems that is now only true for China, where they also sell a BZ3, 5, and 7. Set against those models, the BZ4X name makes more sense. It also helps that they gave it an actual name in Chinese (“Bozhi”) that can be substituted for the BZ initials.
But for the US, where they’ve scrapped plans for any other BZ models to compare the BZ4X against, they’ve decided to simplify the name down to just BZ.
The Blazer and Trailblazer names should be swapped. I don't care about former SUV nameplates being used for crossovers, but at least keep the size relationship unchanged.
The blazer was traditionally larger though. It started as a full-size, the differentiation was S10 Blazer or K5 Blazer. Then there was only the s10 blazer that was replaced by the midsize trailblazer (though there was a short period where there was an s10 blazer and trailblazer)
True, but when the two nameplates coexisted in the 2000s, Blazer was the smaller one. Trailblazer [started as a trim level](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_TrailBlazer_(SUV)#Blazer_trim_line_(1998)) on the S-10-based model, then became the new mid-size model.

It feels like those reasons are listed in increasing order of priority.
Fair enough, but you bought an iX so how much of a genuine contender was the Mach-E?

Not to mention that those forum users would have hated it regardless of what name they gave it, on the virtue of it being an EV.

Yeah - but if we’re being honest…the Mustang name and branding absolutely sold a lot of additional units.
