It’s so great that there are still car manufacturers out there who listen to their customers and build cars like this
FazedCow@reddit
Porsche is the king of making parts bin specials!
carbon fenders, roof, doors (some borrowed from S/T)
Mag wheels and carbon brakes standard
Carbon suspension bits and underbody tray standard
Manual transmission only
Order now, delivery in fall
NOT a limited production model
xanksnap@reddit
this car probably isn't great news for the S/T market... people who paid 700k are likely kicking themselves right now.
albiorix_@reddit
These cars have gotten gigantic.
withoutapaddle@reddit
And I'm just going to say it. I hate the look of a convertible 911. The hump behind the cabin looks so ugly and takes away the fun of looking all around you when you're in the convertible, imo.
rugbyfiend@reddit
Hardly a controversial option
albiorix_@reddit
Totally, the size has changed the shape of the basic design. It looks like Quasimodo.
juss-curiuos98@reddit
Great luxury sports car, unfortunately one took a 100 feet dive driving on the Malibu canyon on Tuesday
Flashy-Restaurant408@reddit
A Gintani Full system on this would be an absolute banger!!!
korpiz@reddit
Bitch, bitch, bitch about the $400k, but you won’t be able to get one for under $500k for the next 10 years because speculators will buy them all and sit on them, rather than actually enjoy them.
raginnation999@reddit
I will cop downvotes for this but here it goes:
It is a cool car but this car shows how Porsche is desperate for cash rn. Think about it: for 25-26 years of the 911 GT3's existence, there was never a cabriolet version of the GT3 to take advantage of the NA engine. The 991 Speedster existed yea but it's a limited edition model. This is a non-limited version and you just know it will continue into the next generation because exotic convertible sells in the US. They had the 718 Boxster Spyder for this very purpose (and it will surely return with the next ICE Boxster) so why do this now for other reasons than to make profits. This is also non-limited so why turn the GT3 RS turbo if this can exist?
Track-focused convertibles are an oxymoron. Realistically, stuff like a 296 Speciale A and a 765LT Spider shouldn't exist but 90% of buyers never track their cars anyway so I get why convertibles of those exist (mainly to sell allocations). The 911 GT3 bunked that trend but it too is becoming a hype exotic (especially the RS) and the rate of people actually using these on the track is starting to decline. As a result, this is a perfect avenue for Porsche to get more profits (and it not being limited is a telltale sign of that). It will sell, yes, but purists may not take this car well considering you add weight to the car and take away any pretence of track performance as a result. GT means fast on a track and, ideally, calling this S/C only is fine. As much as I prefer leaving the GT cars hard-top only, Porsche is strapped for cash rn and I don't blame them for finally making a GT3 convertible widely available.
Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho@reddit
Sports cars are recreational, not race cars. If you are actually racing, and optimizing for tenths of a second on lap times, sure, a convertible is detrimental. But even for owners who take it to the track, they aren’t timing laps like that, so being marginally worse is not detrimental.
Quantum_Fizzics@reddit
While Porsche is indeed strapped for cash right now, this is just not how product planning works, especially with long time horizons in the automobile industry. This car has been long planned in advance in the 992 life cycle
hellish_ve@reddit
What? there is nothing greater and more pure than road racing a car with no roof - you know like Formula cars.
I think this is a GREAT spec and dont understand how it didnt come sooner, I can imagine how fun it has to be to enjoy a GT3 rowing your own gears without a roof enjoying that symphony of the flat6.
Also, by your logic Miatas and S2000s should be a bad experience for track cars?
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
Comparing a monocoque formula car with a chopped off Carrera Cab is thick
hellish_ve@reddit
Do you think were still in the 90s? the rigidity of new convertible cars, especially porsches is incredible to say the least, its no longer a set back compared to the coupe version.
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
Yes, Cabrios have improved, but you can’t escape physics and geometric considerations. If the Cabrio is not compromised against the Coupe, it means that Porsche is not utilizing the roof of a track-focused sportscar. This would be hideous
aprtur@reddit
I laughed because I thought it was sarcasm at first, and then realized they're serious....yikes. For something more akin to a racecar on the street, a Radical or Caterham is at least more understandable to make the connection with.
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
That’s where I cross the line. Maybe also Lotus Exige /Elise. They’re a fucking riot!
aprtur@reddit
Absolutely on the Exige - those things are awesome. I want one, but the prospect of them having extremely little parts support worries me a bit when they're pricey as they are (for a toy).
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
I almost bought one, but just couldn’t get over the fact that you have no excuses anymore that you bought a means of transport xD. It’s a toy
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
Ahaha wait, I first thought you meant connect a Radical or Caterham with a Formula racecar. Connect a Radical with a 911 Cab? No way for me 😅
aprtur@reddit
Neither - I meant just the general thought of connecting a Radical or Caterham with a racecar on a street reg in the broader sense.
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
Ok all clear! Yes, the Radical is pretty much a racecar with the massive downforce etc. The Elise/Exige are the only true road cars that have a slight hint of racecar in them, due to how small and low they are, unassisted steering etc. The Caterham I would place somewhere in the middle
raginnation999@reddit
The GT3 started out as a homologation car for racing. GT3 has its roots in racing. It's only recently been seen as an old-school driver's car that is enjoyable on a back road without punishing you every day (hence the existence of the GT3 Touring). That should also explain why the GT3 RS became more hardcore and the GT3 started to dial it back down a bit. Don't get me wrong, this car should be celebrated since stuff like these are rare. But the GT development team has placed great importance on traditions and not chasing trends for cash. You said that you didn't understand why a drop-top GT3 took so long to be a permanent variant and I'd say it is for that reason above. The 911 GT3 is a track-focused car at heart so stuff like weight and body rigidity matter. There's a reason why for 26 years, the GT3 never had a permanent soft-top option. There's also a reason why they made the 718 Boxster Spyder (complete with the GT3 engine and a stick).
I just wanted to point out what I said in my comment because Porsche's financial situation sucks rn and it has brought them to this point right now (making a GT3 convertible permanent addition to the line-up). Porsche resisted the urge for a model like this (presumably to keep segmentation and tradition alive) for a long while, but now that they need money, they had to do it.
I guess this is due to the weight of the GT3 name? GT on a Porsche means track-focused (yes, even the Taycan and Cayenne Turbo GTs). This car is meant for the back road, not necessarily the track. There is a reason why the 991 Speedster (this car's predecessor) and the 718 Boxster Spyder/Spyder RS were never named GT even if they were made by the GT development team. Imho, if they left it as 911 S/C then we'd never have this conversation
On this one, these cars are meant for back roads and they are sports cars at heart. However, there is a reason why people who do a track build for these buy hardtops (regain rigidity and aero efficiency). You can have fun with these on a track but they are (or were in the case of the Honda except for the CR) not marketed as such for a reason. Those who track a car and those who want to enjoy corners on public roads are 2 different types of customers. You buy a coupe if you track often. You buy a convertible though if you live for just driving on a back road for fun.
_galaga_@reddit
I get the cash grab comment but I'm not sure they'll be built in sufficient volume to move the revenue needle that significantly. Their margins are always huge, of course, and this won't be an exception. They can sell whatever they want with GT on it whether it's actually worth it or not. It is interesting from a product management/brand management PoV they're breaking from that hardcore track-only vibe with this car, tho.
xXNodensXx@reddit
Now if only they did this treatment with the GT4 RS.
(I still couldn't afford it, but I would be happier knowing it exists)
Noobasdfjkl@reddit
You are gonna be so stoked to find out about the Spyder RS
xXNodensXx@reddit
It sounds delightful and looks the part... But, I prefer a solid roof.
spiketeam@reddit
Not being a limited production run is good.
However the gt3 is also not a limited production run car and it’s still unobtainable without a serious markup.
So, great but who cares?
Slow-Raisin-939@reddit
not if you live in Europe. Here you can just walk in any dealership and leave with a GT3 at sticker price.
spiketeam@reddit
That’s so great for y’all. And I don’t mean that sarcastically.
Slow-Raisin-939@reddit
well on the other hand salaries are much worse than in the US so purchasing power probably still tilts your way. Though I understand it is frustrating when you have the money but have to wait a lot for allocations or other stupid practices that US dealers use
thenewtomsawyer@reddit
Nah I’d rather have healthcare
blankcheque3@reddit
Plus if you’re European you still have your foreskin
strongmanass@reddit
I thought that's what European Porsche dealers demanded instead of markup.
nipnaps@reddit
MSRPP
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
The meme of "Americans earn more" isn't really a thing because we don't get mandatory vacations (unlimited PTO lol), we don't get healthcare, we work constantly, we die sooner, and our food is basically just pumped full of nonsense.
Slow-Raisin-939@reddit
Thing is you could have both. I highly doubt US can pay so much better because they have deregulated their food safety. That’s just US stupidity to its full extent, but so is the very low purchasing power of the average EU citizen due to EU’s stupid bureaucracy that plagues and stumps all innovation.
BlazinZAA@reddit
US pay is better largely because of the fact that we as private citizens have to pay for most benefits.
Healthcare for example can cost thousands a month for a family. Even if your job provides healthcare, you still pay a portion, and a bigger portion to add your family in.
We get less PTO and there are less labor protections, most Americans wouldn't call out unless they broke a bone because in most states they can just get fired for anything. Technically we have labor protections, but look up "at will employment" which is basically a hand wavey way of saying an employer can fire you on a whim.
America is really really great if you have money, and arguably it's better to be rich in America than rich in Europe, but it's way worse to be poor in America than in Europe. And there's a lot more poor than there is rich
-Racer-X@reddit
again gt3 market is being manipulated by dealers, eventually the steam will run out
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Simply not true - they dont have an allocation system, but in many cases the wait time for a production slot is longer than the production run for the car.
Slow-Raisin-939@reddit
This is not my experience living here. I have at least 5 major cities around me with Porsche dealers and all have GT3s on the lot. And I live in Eastern Europe.
lordtema@reddit
I mean that`s mostly a by-product of the demand in the American market. It`s the same with for example the G63, which in Europe is very easy to get at MSRP with no shenanigans, whilst in the US you either have to have a relationship with your dealer or pay a ADM to get one.
spiketeam@reddit
You mean - Have a relationship with your dealer AND pay a ADM to get one.
lordtema@reddit
There are dealerships that will absolutely allow you to buy at MSRP if you have a good enough relationship with them. I know that Mercedes Benz of North Olmstead (i follow Benzandbowties) allows customers with an existing relationship to buy G63s at MSRP. If you want to establish a relationship quickly they offer you a 2 year G550 lease, at the end of the lease you will be given the opportunity to buy a G63 at MSRP.
willpc14@reddit
This is no better than the Rolex buyers texting their ADs begging for permission to buy a stainless steel sports watch
lordtema@reddit
I mean, when the option is grey market or direct ADMs you are going to eat a shit sandwich regardless if you really want the car.
MrReadilyUnready@reddit
I'll always prefer the grey market because that way you're at least guaranteed to get what you want. You're not guaranteed an allocation even if you play the game with brands like Rolex and Porsche.
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
Huh, must be something in the water. I got my Cayman GTS 4.0 from Porsche North Olmstead for MSRP (I live in CA).
lordtema@reddit
It`s owned by the same dude AFAIK, because i`ve seen a few videos where they get a Porsche for trade and then they can access payoffs and stuff like that, i also believe it`s the Porsche store that sells any Porsche trade ins.
pridetwo@reddit
This shit is so dumb lol
lordtema@reddit
You kinda missed the part where if you were an existing customer, you do not have to pay ADM. Of course you are not getting an G63 with no ADMs walking in off the street when there is a higher demand amongst their customers than there is supply.
strongmanass@reddit
It's just semantics. The purpose of "ADM" is for the dealer to make more money on a car whose MSRP is below market value. They can do that directly by requesting cash on top of MSRP. Or they can do that indirectly by getting more profit from one buyer than the single sale of the desired car. An "existing customer" or "previous relationship" is the latter; the dealership judges that you've been sufficiently profitable as a customer that they require no further profit beyond what they gain from the desired car - G63 in this case.
Leasing a car you don't want for the chance to get the one you do want at MSRP is somewhere in between.
pridetwo@reddit
How does the higher demand than supply angle hold up when thats not the case in Europe for the same car?
spiketeam@reddit
I dunno how relevant the g63 experience is vs a Porsche gt product but at least in my experience it’s pretty close to impossible to get a gt3 without an ADM even with an existing relationship with a dealer.
lordtema@reddit
I would assume the only people getting a GT3 without an ADM is someone who is either friends with the dealership owner or someone who has done a metric fucton of deals with that particular dealership so yeah about the GT3 you are probably right.
0621Hertz@reddit
The GT3 is supposed to be a limited production car, it’s niche to be a track focused car for the 911 enthusiast that already has 1 or 2 911s in their garage.
From 2005-2020 because they were “too raw” and not a luxury product. Great car, but you don’t see them at every stoplight in Scottsdale.
Now there are more 992.1 GT3s than 991.1 and .2 GT3s.
Now it’s a speculator/influencer car that’s becoming a “me too” car in any HCOL areas.
desf15@reddit
Well, world doesn't end with USA. Here in Poland every Porsche dealer has at least few GT3s in stock, some already sitting for months and advertised below MSRP.
sneakylumpia@reddit
nice $275k 911 bro, it has my 14 year old GTI's plaid seats! (i'm coping)
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
Funny thing is about 3/4 of the comments in this thread are unironically saying the same shit lol.
bullet50000@reddit
I mean, it's still thinly veiled cope whether the person is open about it or not
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
It's 100000% cope. Every thread on a car like this is filled with top comments that are cope lol.
I appreciate the above dude for making light of it.
bullet50000@reddit
Honestly yeah. make fun of stupid $300k cars as much as you want, just be frank that its definitely tinged with "I'm annoyed I can't have".
sensimilla420@reddit
Who can attain this as their 3rd or 4th or 5th car? This is for the 0.1%, 10M+ net worth households, and even then only appeals to an even smaller fraction of that 0.1% demographic who want a droptop GT3 and live in a climate suitable for it. It's pretty stupid when you do back of the napkin math and realize the market is, at most, 250k people in the US. I imagine collectors and porsche freaks are largely propping up their market.
zerosystem03@reddit
Sure, but i feel wealth disparity is also one of those topics that's often only discussed here in a way that sounds more hopeless than it really is. People here still bitch about 100k cars.
For example it's much more possible than people realize to reach 1M+ net worth by their early to mid 30s but it takes a few things. Aggressive early savings into retirement + some level of basic investment. Don't even have to be a genius at it, just put it into VOO or SPY instead of blowing it on cars or renting luxury apartments. Lots of people I know including myself drove shitboxes through our 20s and didnt buy anything new until their late 20s. Meanwhile on reddit it's common everywhere to see 17-20 yr olds asking about buying new cars, up to new BMWs, Supras and i have even seen posts from younger kids openly admitting they make something like 60k/year and they just bought a 718 GT4. Not even kidding. The other aspect is being aggressive with career growth but smart savings into retirement goes a long way
Obviously just doing that might not land you actual GT3 money, but more helpful to discuss strategies to grow wealth instead of just complaining about wealth disparities. Slash the price of a gt3 by a third today. It's still not making the people struggling any richer
birdseye-maple@reddit
Those seats are legit hideous though.
caterham09@reddit
It's Ok to be wrong
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
TBH I also don't care for em, but the good thing is being that it's a Porsche there will certainly be at least 30 different seat options ranging in markup from a grand or two to like 45k for no reason.
ripestmango@reddit
No
Ill-Train6478@reddit
As long as it shortens the waiting list for the gt3 touring. Keep churning out gt3 variants gt3 targa, gt3 4, gt3 rsr, gt3 rs s/c
spiketeam@reddit
Mildly controversial opinion - I am happy this comes with the powered roof instead of a complicated tent setup like the spyder RS.
I could never afford this but at least the roof won’t stop me from getting it.
strongmanass@reddit
One weird thing to me is everyone's convincing themselves that the hearing loss they're getting from the driver's side intake(?) is cool and totally worth it. Most of these buyers are not young. Being the deaf old man that your grandchildren don't talk to because they can't be bothered to scream at you all the time isn't so cool.
Yeah cars are cool and we're supposed to believe that the driving experience trumps all. But at a certain point a road car is just too compromised. But people love the car so my opinion here doesn't matter.
ThrowAwayRaceCarDank@reddit
Which car are you referring to? I find it hard to believe that a car with a factory exhaust/intake setup could give you hearing damage.
strongmanass@reddit
Spyder RS. Throttle House's video title was We are now deaf (timestamped to intake noise). I don't think it's the volume on its own, but the combination of volume and position right by the driver's head.
spiketeam@reddit
Hey, it's only 1 ear.
Yell into my other ear.
/s
thejetssuckbigtime@reddit
The tent setup is stupid. On a GT car saving 40lb does nothing but the crazies on rennlist will say that it’s fine and “engineering”
blabus@reddit
I don't think it's for weight savings? I owned one and could not see where they would physically have the space for a full powered mechanism (or even the manual single-articulation mechanism on the regular Spyder).
spiketeam@reddit
Oh I’ve heard the cope on rennlist.
For me it made the spyder rs a non starter. My wife likes to take my GTS 4.0 out on weekends with the top down and theres no way she ll put up with the stupid tent mechanism.
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
Somewhere someone murdered their wife cuz she couldn't be bothered with the tent roof and it rained for an hour in to the interior of their Spyder.
Thing is for me with the tent; don't pretend it's about engineering and weight. I don't care. But if they just said "it looks sick as fuck" as the reason why I have to manually fuck with the top on a 150k car? Okay, I take it.
_galaga_@reddit
I hadn't driven a convertible much until the last couple years and the top goes up/down depending on weather, traffic, or whether you need a break from the sun/wind, etc. The Spyder looks cool but I always preferred the Boxster GTS for real world practicality. If I lived in SoCal and had a fleet of cars, sure, get the Spyder but if it's your only fun car and you live in a temperate area, no chance.
MartyCool403@reddit
I want one. Maybe in like ten years when I have my career going I'll be able to buy a used one.
ULight_stream9@reddit
Not trying to sound dumb but when people post about expensive cars and say things like “they brought back this” or “we have been begging for this feature”. Why does it seem like it’s something everyone’s been waiting for? It sounds like people buy every new car that comes out.
Not trying to come off as disrespectful or a Debby downer!
Penguinho@reddit
A few people do buy lots of cars. They cycle through their inventory pretty quick. But there's also a pretty small pool of people writing about high-end sportscars. So they're going to have wishes and wants.
ItsReallyS13Silvia@reddit
So Porsche basically just skipped the development work and cost of a Speedster top here to squeeze even more money out of their idiotic customers?
Whatever, they’ll be lining up to buy it again anyway.
caterham09@reddit
They'll line up and happily pay 40k to the dealer as well just for the privilege
pridetwo@reddit
It's amazing how many successful people lose all self respect the moment they walk into a Porsche dealer.
WarDEagle@reddit
For some people, paying an extra fee to get the thing that they want just isn't a big deal. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Teledildonic@reddit
Must be fucking nice to not need to give shit about costs.
Useful-Turnip5856@reddit
40K? I think they are 75K-100K
PinkishOcean430@reddit
A non numbered/limited version is much better. This nonsense with these cars need to stop. They are being made in 5 figure numbers. Make all of them, Corvette style.
Enough with the 400k GT3s
0621Hertz@reddit
I love the GT3, but for 400k I can get a 296 Spyder or a ZR1X with a massive ADM. But I understand if manual is what some people like.
But it’s basically the only car over $150k that comes in manual, so until the new vantage is out it has a niche monopoly segment.
UncleBensRacistRice@reddit
For 400k you can get a zr1x for your performance needs and an Emira with a 6 speed for your manual shifting fun needs and still have cash left over. Porsche has lost the plot
Howaboutthat41@reddit
Well, some of us like to combine the concepts of power and engagement, and even "AI" cannot help us drive two cars at the same time. The prices indeed are getting a bit scary, though.
UncleBensRacistRice@reddit
I get that and ideally you'd have both, but their pricing has gotten insane
BillyJohnsFinds@reddit
That’s the thing. GT3 is the only one that’s naturally aspirated and rear engined, the manual gearbox isn’t the only thing that sets it apart. There are tons of options for turbo mid or front engined cars, no substitute for the 911 unfortunately.
KanterBama@reddit
From what every reviewer says though, the rear-engined liveliness of the 911 has been dead for a long time; modern TC has completely negated the need for balanced and intentional driving that used to give 911s their character. So I don’t even think the rear-engine argument applies anymore, unless they legitimately have that kind of Porsche knowledge and know how to rip a 500 hp, rear-engined car without TC, otherwise they’ll probably be faster in a Cayman.
Porsche is selling a 911 experience that maybe 10% of their owners can exploit, but every owner gets to act like they’re in that 10% at Cars and Coffee, so why not make them outrageously expensive.
BillyJohnsFinds@reddit
It’s less rest engined than older ones, but it is for sure rear engined and handles differently compared to actually mid engined cars.
I agree that most people don’t experience the majority of what this cars are for, but it still doesn’t make the cars less unique.
overniteptsfromjapan@reddit
And no need to even pay for ADM as the zr1x is not limited and will be mass produced.
0621Hertz@reddit
I understand that, just saying the ZR1X blows the GT3s performance out of the water with a comparable price and that’s the ridiculous ADMs right now.
antaphar@reddit
Yeah that price point opens up to tons of exotic options.
watduhdamhell@reddit
As someone who always wanted a Porsche when they could afford it, I am truly considering a Corvette instead for my next car. A used Z06 might be arguably more special in so many ways compared to most 911s, while being faster and more obtainable. Most of us doing well can just maybe afford up to like a $150k car when the time is right. But I feel like I can never afford a $150k car being sold for like $250k, when there are $100k examples that are readily available and faster...
BillyJohnsFinds@reddit
Lol “non limited”. They can call it whatever they want but all the GT cars are limited as in you can’t buy one unless you spend crazy amount over MSRP or have a plug. Non limited is something like the Corvette ZR1 where you can just go and buy one.
Scratchpaw@reddit
This seems to be mainly a US and UK thing to be honest.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
No, its not - same factory.
In many EU markets the wait time for a GT3 is longer than the GT3 is in production for - thats functionally limited.
Porsche has explicitly said they are keeping production lower than demand to keep residuals high and their dealers happy.
Scratchpaw@reddit
I'm talking about dealers asking extra over MSRP or requiring you to have bought cars with them in the past. Dealer decides how much over MSRP they want for someone to have build slot, not the factory. This seems to be mainly a thing done by US and UK dealers. I work for an EU Porsche dealership and if you walk in and want to buy a GT3(RS) and we still have slots available, you'll be able to buy at MSRP, no previous relation required. If we don't have slots available, we'll put you on a list and call you when we do get extra production slots from PAG in our market.
costafilh0@reddit
They need to recoup their loses from EVs some how. And the 911 is their way of doing it.
hpshaft@reddit
Porsche VIP program customers have likely already gotten allocations. Let the ADM wars begin!
anm63@reddit
That’s in the process of ending for basically all 918 customers at this point
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Speedsters look pretty dorky IMO - glad they went this route.
gluten_heimer@reddit
Why is this a bad thing? It’s basically the same thing as a Speedster but without the styling or (more) artificially limited production or even higher price tag.
laylowlazlo@reddit
99% loss in operating profit year over year…
ASV731@reddit
That’s nice, but until you can get GT3s at sticker, I’m out
GVIrish@reddit
MSRP on GT3's is ridiculous too. The 2026 starts at a whopping $75000 more than the 2022 did for the same generation of car. Just doesn't really make sense at that price point, but if people pay it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
aprtur@reddit
I can't even figure out the logic on the Carrera T pricing - $160,000 for an extremely lightly optioned one, and more like $200k for one with reasonable options without getting insane....for the cheapest manual trim you can get? Wild.
megacookie@reddit
Wasn't the whole point of the Carrera T to be a "cheap" entry level manual 911 with the base engine and a stick? There's no reason it should cost more than a Carrera S other than Porsche milking the fact that you can no longer get most other 911 variants in a manual.
aprtur@reddit
Exactly - removing the manual from the base 911 is when they started to milk it, and it's obvious. That used to be your option for a more pocketbook friendly way of getting into a new 911, but then they nerfed the base trim and started making option pricing on the T to where it got out of hand. To be clear, I think it's perfect that Porsche allows you to choose options for everything, but the individual pricing has gotten crazy. Minimum $1600 for something that isn't greyscale paint? Another $1600 just because you want green ($3160)? $15000 for preselected paint colors they already have on hand (PTS, not PTS+)? $3600 for just picking a different stitching color that they physically do anyway but don't charge for black? That's $20k of options for what should really be about $6-7000, maybe $10k total if we're being generous on the high end...WTF?
GoldenState15@reddit
You've been able to get them for a while at msrp
ASV731@reddit
Nope. Not in the US and not without a relationship with the dealer.
GoldenState15@reddit
What is this based on? Before I bought my 992.1 Gt3, I had never even been to a Porsche dealer before. Close friend was also able to order a manual one and get a pts color at MSRP
ASV731@reddit
There is a 100-page thread on it. 2 years ago maybe it was possible, but your friend is either a return customer or incredibly lucky to get a PTS at MSRP recently
https://rennlist.com/forums/992-gt3-and-gt2rs-forum/1499827-gt3-992-2-prices-crashing-msrp-coming-88.html
nathanlanza@reddit
When? I gave up trying about a year ago.
GoldenState15@reddit
I've had my car for almost 2 years and his was delivered probably 4 months ago

What’s the premium over msrp for a GT3, anyway? I gather from context it must be hefty?
ASV731@reddit
It’s come down a bit, but recent ADMs have been $25-30k for a wing car and $40-50k for a touring.

To be fair they did bundle a bunch of big ticket items like pccbs and magnesium wheels as standard it isn't that much of a jump factoring them in
AwesomeBantha@reddit
The whole 911 thing about speccing the CCBs because they make the car hold its value better is so mind bendingly stupid. People spec these on their 911s, and then immediately take them off after taking delivery to put on the way cheaper steel brakes that work just as well for normal use, so that they can swap the CCBs back on before reselling it to the second owner, who will do the exact same thing.
Just like it doesn’t matter which tires originally came with the car, the CCBs and wheels shouldn’t matter that much either, but somehow it does.
If I ever spec out a 911, I don’t want to deal with CCBs and stupidly expensive wheels I’ll need to worry about scratching. Give me normal brakes and either reasonably priced wheels I like, or the cheapest wheel/tire combo so I can throw on an aftermarket setup I like more.

Don’t you know? According to inflation, that’s what all cars cost now… /s

And these will all be on BAT in a few months selling for $500k

Wow -- all the complaining. Thanks, Internet. I am glad Porsche is making this car, and if it makes the world just a little bit better, why not? Someday I may buy one on the used market.
High prices are unfortunate, but blaming Porsche for taking just a bit of a page out of Ferrari's book is hardly usurious. And if it sells really well it may prompt other marques to circle back to manual transmissions. It also opens up ever more room for Corvette sales and development.

Oh....oh my God. New dream car unlocked.
bobj33@reddit
The headline is dumb. Why does anyone “deserve” a car.
It’s cool, it’s expensive, but it if you want.
I would rather they bring back the Boxster/Cayman. Those were previously in my price range. But they are of course going to make more profitable cars which seems to be the Macan or another 911 variant

The hero we deserve, but not the one we can afford right now
72corvids@reddit
I did a fairly "basic" build out on the website. $370,000CAD before taxes and delivery. -_-
I'll stick to used everything, thanks. I mean, it's not like I could afford one in the first place.

No single-mass flywheel and lightweight clutch from the S/T is pretty disappointing.

Such bullshit. Cancelling my order.

Someone’s desperate for cash and have no money for development
7ECA@reddit
Should call it the GT3-K because Porsche's 911 strategy is to sell only to the people riding the top of the K-shaped economy
Emotional_Two_8059@reddit
People that will buy a 911 Cab with a leftover GT3 engine are riding the D I think, not the K

It’s a cheap cash-grab. That’s what it is

If they weren’t gonna do a speedster, I wish it was a targa. 911 Cabs have such wonky profiles imo.
But still, I’m happy it exists.

Save the ‘we all deserve’ for the sub 100k cars.
A gt3 isn’t a ‘oh shucks, maybe if I save my nickels right for retirement, I’ll get my Porsche’ kind of car, and thats fine, we don’t have to pretend it’s for ‘all’.

Ngl I'm totally checked out of the Porsche stuff nowadays. Way too much money for a special edition that isn't even that different from the non special edition. And the non special edition gt3 is already a collector item atp.
