Western Express just assigned me a load that has “chargeback”. If it’s late, they charge the driver (me) $200. Is there any truth to this???

Posted by ArtOther754@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 82 comments

RKGamesReddit@reddit

If the driver isn't from TN, would they still be on a TN contract? Wouldn't the contract take precedence on where the driver is from? It's their responsibility to make sure freight isn't running late, why not just reject the load or find a driver who can make it? This BS just means I don't want the load.

Had a dollar general warehouse charge me like 840 bucks for them to unload the product - charged for 22 "bad wood" and restacks. I had 22 pallets and I guarantee they weren't broken when the trailer was loaded! So glad I was reimbursed for that.

CRST, RTI. It was always a PITA to get any maintenance done with them. I had to fight to get a door hinge replaced because the door was about to fall off.

RKGamesReddit@reddit

Lmao, I've hauled far worse damage wise, patched and patched and patched again. The first picture might be enough to reject depending on the load, but OOS wise, this is nothing. If I had to reject a trailer for that, I'd have rejected 80% of the trailers I got when I was dry van. Just check the cross members for damage. Thankfully the employer I'm with now would rather fix things than say "if it's sturdy you're taking it."

I apologize for making fun of Volvos.

It's based on an old study from UC Berkeley about breaking distances, I could understand it for urban areas but some of the more rural areas it just doesn't make sense.

Thoughts on the new KW T680 with the camera mirrors?

RKGamesReddit@reddit

Interesting to learn, I'm just familiar with the benefits provided from aviation for using green vs red, and the potential for "flashbangs" from landing lights being left on during taxi.

RKGamesReddit@reddit

Red is strictly better, yea, however the reason NVG systems use green is because your eyes can adjust quicker to it or away from it. My sleeper has red tint on the lights.

RKGamesReddit@reddit

That's horrid, I'd rather black/green or even black/red - white is just going to ruin your night vision and reduce how far ahead you can see. I even put green tint over my dome light in case I need to grab something at night real quick

I believe you know how to review the output, but lack the inherent understanding of the code itself. You saw it worked, functioned correctly within your testing, and put it into your app. I severely lack trust in any QA done for anything vibe coded.

What is the thing you would like most in linux?

RKGamesReddit@reddit

Dedicated vendor support more than likely. The fact we have to do workarounds just to get basic RGB control or for peripherals to work correctly is a bit absurd. Native support for these from the makers would go a long way to accessibility on linux.

Surprisingly this is an anti-theft thing - it's just saying "hey, we know you're here, don't steal, we're watching" - and is why you see it at other businesses like walmart and costco.

Woman loses eye due to a chunk of ice falling of a Semi and hitting the windshield. I’m curious if truckers are supposed to check for ice before getting back on the road?

My terminal uses conestoga trailers, in the recent storm they wanted some of us to come in and yeet the trailers around the area to knock the snow/ice off - since it's basically a giant tarp the wind causes it to flap rather well.

I had my first dropped trailer experience recently, drove 2 miles before it unhooked. It happens to the best of us, and there's little you can do if everything looked right before it happened. The 4 wheelers can't comprehend how this can happen, while we live the reality.

Posted by fukingstupidusername@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 113 comments

Everywhere I've been to has had a reduction in hangar spaces over the last few decades, making the few available all that more rare. I wonder if it's something to do with the ever increasing cost of plane ownership honestly.

I think my biggest complaint about them is that they don't adapt to your head position, if you're unsure of something you can move your head to get a different angle rather than having to adjust the unit

That distance seems accurate for a highway speed semi in america, european semis certainly can stop earlier. 525 feet to be specific is the number that gets thrown around, and when fully loaded on a grade or wet surface you'll definitely go over that distance in an emergency brake scenarios

I actually noticed that generally the faster I went (62 compared to 68) the more people that didn't want to be behind me but rather in front of me. Like they heard "trucks take 2 football fields to stop" and took that to mean it only affects traffic behind and not in front.

As someone who lives in WV, 35 is much better of a drive but the bridges on the WV side of the OH/WV border suck because there's a dip at the start and end of every single one, while 33 has more turns that require a slower speed. I would take 33 because 35 is brutal

Quite a few email providers support it, but you'd have to check specifically what is allowed with each - afaik, google's is the most permissive. Do be careful though, some services that let you use + codes can't properly handle it
