Semi drivers can barely drive at slower speeds and we think it's going to be safer at 80mph?
Safe_Fail_568@reddit
Doesn’t seem to be a problem in Texas
Confident_Season1207@reddit
Every time I see Texas plates in MN, it's always a guarantee I see shitty driving
Red_Sox0905@reddit
Right. So much complaining on here about how incompetent some truck drivers are, yet celebrating them being able to go faster.
Confident_Season1207@reddit
So many of them are driving like they are drunk and on their phone. You'll get truckers on here always blaming the foreigners, and while they have their issues, I see plenty of white trash driving shitty
Wasabi-Kungpow@reddit
Here I come in my 62 governed truck riding the left lane passing another doing 62.5
HighwayStar71@reddit
Trucks doing 80 is scary considering who is driving them, now.
WelcomeMachine@reddit
I just drove from St Louis to Lexington KY today. Indiana sucks. For more reasons than just this, but yeah, I hate being able to run with traffic flow. Not like you can run fast very long. I think they're working on every bridge along I64 in that state!
UmbraSicarius69@reddit
Oh don't worry, they are lmao
Source? Native Kentuckian sitting at my house in Richmond till Monday morning lol. Good fuckin luck getting out of Lex before 8pk with holiday traffic, I'd wait if I was you
Scurvy_Pete@reddit
Nicholasville Rd is my own personal hell
Black000betty@reddit
Why not just lower everyone to 70? 4 wheelers can't drive worth a damn anyway, shouldn't be going so fast.
Tiparuski@reddit
Should be like that everywhere
NekoboyBanks@reddit
California is the worst culprit. I've never thought it was safe to have trucks limited to 55, despite it being ostensibly for safety. It seems almost nobody obeys it anyway.
thedailyworkwr@reddit
I believe california does that so they can ticket drivers. 55 is not a safe speed in my opinion. Youre basically a congesting traffic. In the city I understand, but in out in the open should be at least 65
CMDR_Joe_Plague@reddit
55 is stupidity
RKGamesReddit@reddit
It's based on an old study from UC Berkeley about breaking distances, I could understand it for urban areas but some of the more rural areas it just doesn't make sense.
NekoboyBanks@reddit
I'm right there with you. It just seems to me that it's like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. But I'm no scientist, I guess.
Renault_75-34_MX@reddit
Germany is 80km/h (50 mph) on motorways/built out roads only. The rest is officially 60km/h (37 mph).
But many ignore it ang go 70/43 on most of the B roads (probably similar to the Route xx roads), and 85/52 on the motorways.
At least we have a bit more driver discipline so that it's not too bad when mixing speed limited lorries with cars, especially on the unrestricted speed parts of the Autobahn.
CobraWasTaken@reddit
Works better for them because they're not paid by the kilometer
Lucius_Furius@reddit
We were for a long time, and the rules were the same. It was legal until around 2012 to get payed by km or straight percentages of the job.
bananslickarn@reddit
I dont get how you guys accept being paid by the mile? So if you have to wait at like a terminal do you get 0 pay?
TojoftheJungle@reddit
Exactly. Some companies have rates for mileage+on duty, but it's usually horrible pay from what I've seen, and geared toward newer drivers that have little other choice.
Puzzleheaded-Bag-121@reddit
You’d think that at 55mph posted, there’d be less crashes right? At least that’s what I thought.
Chicago has the same 55mph for trucks and it’s worse than anywhere I’ve been in Cali.
Tiparuski@reddit
Doing 65 in Cali as we text, even cops know it’s bullshit, got cops passing me all day, never had any issues
K1d-ego@reddit
???
NekoboyBanks@reddit
My brother, I hope that is voice-to-text.
Tiparuski@reddit
Lmao of course
Round_Rooms@reddit
There's absolutely no where that needs even a 70 mile speed limit, not with smart phones in everyone's hands making them not smart.
Tiparuski@reddit
Ok lib, ur clearly a local driver
CMDR_Joe_Plague@reddit
Lol trucks governed at 62
BB5er@reddit
Good luck finding a semi tire rated over 75 mph.
ED__209@reddit
Mines aren't but I'm going 80 mph regardless 😬
BB5er@reddit
Can’t blame ya, but it is a potential equipment violation.
rockmon94@reddit
once upon a time i had one governed at 78
disasterpokemon@reddit
My dump truck is governed at 77. Sometimes when its down they'll put me in trucks that done go past 65 and it makes me very sad
stainless5@reddit
This is great and all but for every 20% increase in speed fuel consumption goes up 40% so some people might drive themselves out of business.
UmbraSicarius69@reddit
That's a bs statistic lol.
The difference between 60mph and 75 mph is nowhere near a 40% decrease 😆
ShoebillJoe@reddit
Lmao the guys that would drive themselves out of business were already speeding
bourbonpens@reddit
And I’m still governed at 68
dank_memes_911@reddit
68 is probably the best speed to be governed though since most trucks are going to be governed at 62-65.
UmbraSicarius69@reddit
72mph. Only people going faster than you are unlocked lol
ThePeterbilt589@reddit
I'm 65 🥲
IBringTheHeat2@reddit
Smooth traffic flow but 90% of trucks are governed below 70 lol
20milliondollarapi@reddit
Should really make laws about governing trucks. Because if that’s the case, trucks governed at 65 or even 60 will start becoming serious road hazards.
Voxicles@reddit
Considering a bunch of the megas can already automatically govern your speed due to the time of day and weather, and also ding you for going over the speed limit, they should really just set the governor to the speed limit on whatever road you’re on.
IBringTheHeat2@reddit
Yeah but it could accidentally govern you to like 25mph on the freeway and you’d cause an accident
CobraWasTaken@reddit
I'm governed at 68 and if I go above 79 when I'm coasting downhill I lose my safety bonus so I couldn't care less.
When California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, and Indiana do it that's when I'll give a damn.
DaRealMexicanTrucker@reddit
Imma just mash the throttle until I see the reciever .... or God.
Capn_T_Driver@reddit
Oh good, common sense. Speed differences only make sense on grades.
Red_Sox0905@reddit
Common sense, something you're lacking.
MegaDuck71@reddit
I hate to give the government any credit in Idaho but this is good. However, the sign on the article shows why this isn’t actually a problem there. Hey, California, how is it going?
K1d-ego@reddit
Indiana next?
Treesglow@reddit
What about those that are stuck at 65mph?
december151791@reddit
Same thing as the other ~40 states with speed limits higher than 65
CashWideCock@reddit
Don’t run into the back of me, I’m only going 65. Sometimes slower.
