Yeah hammer needs some adjustments….
yesterday it took me down a hwy through a mountain with no way to get back onto an interstate now it’s routing me through another hwy all the way to oregon instead of taking the i5 north.. like what??? i rerouted the same route on trucker path and it showed me to take i5 all the way up… setting me up for failure..

Hammers navigation is fucked. It once showed me the proper end destination but it actually took me to an empty field an hour and a half away. Also loves to send you down unnecessarily long routes. I’ve had far less trouble just using Google Maps and checking every turn. If there’s an area that’ll cause issues, I just add another stop around there to help the navigation go down safer routes.

it's very easy to drop an en route pin to force the route to a particular road. hammer is great if you want to use your brain a little bit and not get handheld through routing. I run through Jersey, PA, MD, DE, using hammer exclusively.

do you know if there’s a setting to make the announcer louder? if i’m playing my spotify the music will pause when it makes an announcement but it’s very quiet while my music is louder than it. I usually just leave my music off till im on a long stretch where i won’t get any announcements.

Not sure, I don't have that issue, maybe just a bug.

yeah i just prefer it to announce the directions so i know when i should take an exit or when to keep to a lane. but they’re also kind of very late when you need to be on the left side at the very last minute lmao.

Disable the "avoid hard turns" setting
View on Reddit #78473624

is the avoid hard turns actually beneficial?

I saw that you figured it out but I still wanted to comment on this. No, it's completely broken and useless.  Swift has a terminal in Jonestown, PA that's one block off the interstate. With the avoid hard turns setting enabled, Hammer will route you 40 miles around on country back roads to approach the terminal from a "no trucks" road. And it does that at lots of other places, too. It tries to avoid hard turns that don't exist.

ah i figured the setting would be beneficial for rookies to avoid tight turn areas. but if you know how to swing wide and over take the other lane to compensate then you know how to drive lol. today i had to take back roads 2 lane hwy’s to a shipper luckily there aren’t any many travelers so i used the entire road.

i actually figured it out i had the “avoid highways” setting on surprisingly it avoids interstates completely and routes you on actual highways lmao.. makes no sense.

Actually... Taking US97 out of Weed, up into OR, and picking up OR58 back to I-5 will save you about 4 pulls, and is faster. Always check the WX when taking OR58, but this was my standard summer route when I ran I-5, which was pretty frequent.

I ran West Coast for 10 years and I almost always went 97-58. It’s 2 miles shorter and the scenery is *amazing.*

I love the route too, I was always hoping I’d get some downtime to stop by Crater Lake

Somehow I’ve never gone by Crater Lake either but I have stopped many times at the two big roadside lakes and both rivers.

Only gps that hasn't fucked me yet is copilot. Although truckerpath properly configured isn't bad if you force close it regularly.

Copilot has fucked me before but I do like the truck profile features.

Co pilot has had some weirdness for me. But the way points feature helps a ton.

Quit using it when they started charging. Loved being able to get 3 truck route options to a destination for trip planning. But I have a Garmin and Google maps so aside from that 1 feature I never use it.

I used hammer up until it started demanding money for usage. The quality of the product to me doesn't justify the price they are asking for - I understand they need to make some money to continue, but it's not in a state I could justify the cost of

well actually it’s $5/month compared to trucker path. only thing that sucks about TP is that you have to pay to have it route you. i think it’s $30/month.

15/mo for the lower tier - and the additional features are worth it to me. It provides way more information compared to hammer.

Change settings like hazmat. It can help with routes
View on Reddit #78460116

Ricemunchr@reddit (OP)

it’s non hazmat setting it doesn’t make sense why it would route me to a hwy instead of taking the i5 north straight into oregon…

I dunno. But it helps me.

Check the settings and make sure it's on semi truck and not straight truck. For some reason almost every truck app is set on straight truck by default when there's a new update. Rand McNally doesn't do this.

RumbleDumblee@reddit

This is why I got a Rand McNally. Most of these paid apps aren’t very good. TruckerPath is okay, just the re routing is god awful, nice to see rest areas and such Only good paid app I found was Sygic Truck GPS
