I was looking at 800-1,000sq/ft of hardscaping, and grading an additional 1,000 sq/ft. Nothing monolithic or high tier. Estimated at $40,000.

So if PSA is not a good SHTF duty AR, then what is?

God, I love these rifles. Still kick myself for not picking up a pair and a ton of magazines and ammo back when they were (reasonably) cheap.

World Oil inventories are in freefall. When this line hits 6.8 — the global energy system doesn’t slow down. It breaks.

Alright, Bishop, you filthy monkey. I'll break it down for you Barney style. Let's say you have a toy with four batteries in it. As long as all of them keep pumping out energy, everything is fine. If one of those batteries dies, though, it doesn't matter if the other three are full, the toy is not going to work. In this oil scenario, we know that we're draining the batteries quickly, and one of them is going to fail as early as September. Once it does, the system stops.

I have a Raging Bull, too, in .44. It shoots all day and takes whatever I feed it, from 240gr jacketed soft points to 350gr hard casts. It's proven to be reliable and surprisingly accurate for the nearly 2 decades I've owned it. When my eyes were younger, I could reliably hit a softball at 100yds with it, using the open sights.

I can believe that. I had another buddy there around the same time, Propst, and the stories they shared made my college, which was known as a PA party school, sound tame.

My buddy Klugh went to AIP during that era. Remember sitting outside his place smoking with his GF right after she has an intimate piercing. It was a weird, weird time.

No. We carry so much crap in our pockets, on our belts, etc., that no one knows what they are looking at even if they think they see a bulge of some kind. I pay a lot more attention to the guys who try to pull off the gray man look. It's like waving a giant sign that says, "ammo drop," in an crpg.

Bear spray as first choice if used as animal defense. Please, for the love of your life, carry bear spray. It is the single best deterrent against any aggressive wildlife. It is over 90% effective, compared to firearms which are as little as 67% effective.

Do people these days tend to overthink home defense?

What movies or shows do you think have good sound design for firearms?

Posted by TheScribe86@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 167 comments

Exit Wounds. Yes, the Steven Seagal + DMX flick. It was the first movie I remember seeing where the gunfire was sharp and loud. It has the bark and crack of real gunfire. Nothing like the boom+boom+boom or thump-thump-thump so many movies use to simulate the sounds of firearms.

I have bittersweet memories of this movie. My friend Jody, who was a few years older and like a big brother to me, took me to the cheap seats at the mall where we watched this. Popcorn, soda, and candy, everything. We then went and bought some matchbox cars, which we took back to his mom's house and smashed flat with cinder blocks. It was the last Summer day I remember is spending together, as school started, he turned 16, for a car, a job on the weekends, and started chasing girls. A few years later, like River Phoenix's character in Stand By Me, he was stabbed in the neck trying to break up a fight. The way it was told to me, he was dead before he hit the floor. The guy who stabbed him was never caught. I'm going to hold my son, watch this, and remember Jody.

Handgun FRTs are going to seriously damage 2A rights and range access.

FabiusBill@reddit

Most of the ranges around me won't allow you to do rapid fire. If I want to shoot a machine gun or FRT, do draws from a holster, or any kind of training, I either need to take a specific class, rent a private range, or show up for specific shoots. I expect other places will implement similar rules.

The duality of man. Top shelf, or bottom?

Posted by High_Af_Osrs@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 58 comments

FabiusBill@reddit

I had a coach walk me through it when discussing the Canik TP9 I shoot, versus something like his Atlas Ares or Shadow 2: in the beginning, you don't know enough to know what you will and won't like, so get something you can afford, and run it. Run it more than anyone else you shot with. That will tell you what you do and don't like. Eventually, you'll get to a point where you can decide if the more expensive upgrades are worth it, or where you are is good enough. You'll also be able to make caliber and firearm choices on your own, rather than rely on others or (shilled) reviews.

Posted by High_Af_Osrs@reddit | Firearms | View on Reddit | 58 comments

FabiusBill@reddit

As long as it runs: bottom shelf to start, abuse the hell out of, and use the rest on ammo, gear, and training. When I git good or burn down what I have, I'll consider something better.

If you've never owned a 1911, it's a good place to start for the price. You can have fun, learn a lot, and then buy something better if you decide you like the gun enough to upgrade. If not, you still have a fun, capable, piece for the range, or to let someone you know try .45ACP.
