I love my snub nosed 357. Has never failed to go bang on command. Actually a lot tamer to shoot than I thought it was going to be. Pretty easy with 38 spcl.
BigBL87@reddit
They make some decent stuff, and some crappy stuff.
I actually like their PT-92 over the Beretta 92 due to the frame mounted safety.
I had a G2C that was a solid little handgun, I just couldn't get used to the trigger. Ended up giving it to my father-in-law, who really likes it.
But I also had a friend's G2C catastrophically fail, and left him unable to disassemble it. I can't remember if it was the guide rod failing or what it was, but he had to send it back. The turnaround took excessively long, but it did get replaced.
But that experience kinda of framed my approach to them: interesting and fun, but I wouldn't recommend one as the "only one you own" after seeing that failure and the ridiculous turnaround time.
QwelltheTitan@reddit
That is so hot.

If you’re poor and want a range toy, and don’t mind it breaking or not functioning correctly 100% of the time, go for it.
If you’re looking for reliability and precision, STAY AWAY.
jonjay1970@reddit
My EDC is a G3C. Never had any problems with it. Shoots fine.
Wapiti406@reddit
I have an old Taurus .22 revolver that is a clone of the Smith Kit Gun. I bought it used 25 years ago and it is the pinnacle of reliability.
Newer stuff is butts.
Select-Cat-5721@reddit
I have owned several over the years, but currently only own two revolvers made by them. Have had my Tracker 44 for decades (20 years in July) and it has been a reliable and sturdy companion. Never feed anything that is not inside SAAMI standard pressure, but lots that are at the upper end of the 44 Magnum pressures. Accurate, easy to carry and I cannot recall a single failure to fire in the thousands of rounds put through it.
While my experience has been positive, likely everyone has heard a horror story involving a Taurus firearm where customer service was not helpful. It is apparently a YMMV variable.
mauschaus@reddit
They’re against gun access in Brazil. If you can, don’t buy it
morganational@reddit
Great snake gun in Texas. But that's all I've used it for. 🤷🏽♂️
marc_879@reddit
Former gunstore counter jockey and RSO. I would never spend money on a Taurus
Example 1: customer bought a Judge and we provided a half hour range time with each purchase. Went straight to the range and loaded up with .410. Don’t remember what exact load it was, nothing fancy just something cheap for the range… fired off a few rounds and opened the cylinder. The cylinder dropped to the range floor. The screw that held the cylinder yoke sheared off. But hey, dude got a lifetime warranty through Taurus, lucky his life didn’t depend on it.
Example 2: Brand new Taurus judge, unpacked, logged in the book and placed in the display case. Half hour later a customer wanted to see it. Handed it to the customer and after looking it over, asked if the front sight was sold separately. Looked in the display case and it was laying where the judge was originally placed.
From an RSO perspective, the bulk of the”hey, my gun is jammed” were Taurus.
It was also our most returned brand for Factory warranty
monsterofwar1977@reddit
I own a few revolvers. They're not bad. But tbh I've had really good luck with all firearms other than a Henry 22. And I have a 92 built ruger single six that that you to pull the trigger clean and crisp or it light strikes. A 350 legend ar upper that had to be really wet to operate smoothly before it broke in. Almost forgot about a new python I had to have sent back 2 times because it was buggy. It's flawless now but it's timing was horrible at first, spitting lead. Then it kept locking up. The only one i am really disappointed in is the Henry. Even polishing the firing pin hasn't solved its light strikes.
Of the Taurus, the raging bull and the newer raging hunter seem pretty smooth. The 605 defender is as well. I mostly have bought the heavier caliber ones so I can't speak to all of them.
ceapaire@reddit
Generally, spotty QC and not always great customer service.
EarlyCuylersCousin@reddit
And spotty QA.
one_who_reads@reddit
Is there a difference between Quality Control and Quality Assurance?
deelowe@reddit
QA is a design/development task like adding telemetry to firmware. QC are checks that you add to the process itself such as tests and/or inspections.
THEFLYINGSCOTSMAN415@reddit
Your comment made me curious enough to google it, so apparently it’s that QA is proactive and works towards preventing defects and such, whereas QC is about detecting those defects before they get distributed for sale
one_who_reads@reddit
I learned something new today. Thank you
bringit2012@reddit
I do this for a living. I have worked on both sides however I prefer the QA side. I can prevent issues myself by developing and implementing solid systems and designs that end up saving the company from making defects. In turn, they pay me (1 person) the salaries of all those folks who stand on the line and inspect parts for defects (MANY People).
EarlyCuylersCousin@reddit
I know that part of QA is making sure you’re buying quality components to manufacture your various parts. Like sourcing high quality steel or alloys for your frames and gun barrels and not the pot metal that Taurus is known for sometimes using.

Big_Z_Diddy@reddit
For revolvers they are okay. Not the best, not the worst. For anything else they are absolute garbage. The triggers on the G2C is like squishing a condom full of mud before breaking a glow stick.
Lazy_Resolve_9747@reddit
TX22 is the most recommended semi auto 22
HemHaw@reddit
And for good reason. Friend got one and we can't make it stop. One of the few 22 pistols with the same manual of arms as most centerfires, but actually fucking works
TacTurtle@reddit
22/45 will beat a TX2
GreatTea3@reddit
If Ruger would make a mark four with a twenty round magazine, they’d be on top of the heap. But 10-11 rounds is a lot more reloading than shooting. I love my Ruger, but I bought a S&W 22X and I’m shooting that a lot more since then.
TacTurtle@reddit
Ruger mags are way easier to load than TX-22 or 22X, especially if you use a MacFadden Ultimate Loader or even a HKS loading tool.

ammonthenephite@reddit
I've only had one and it was flawless, ran everything I put through it (taurus pt145). Everyone's individual experience will be different.
SwanMuch5160@reddit
I had the same experience with my PT145, ran flawlessly. Also, if I remember correctly it was the same size as my G26 (still own) and had the same capacity but chambered in .45ACP opposed to 9mm.
ammonthenephite@reddit
Ya, it was my first ccw and was fun to shoot at the range as well. I reloaded at the time and could crank out a lot of .45, and that thing just ran perfectly. I know a lot of other taurus guns had problems, but I think they deserve a little more slack than they get in this sub, lol.
SwanMuch5160@reddit
I think the got the PT platform correct. Mine was a Millennium Pro if i remember correctly.

naswege@reddit
I love my Taurus 357.
Batttler@reddit
Taurus revolvers ... not bad
Taurus semi-autos ... not great
Taurus PCC ... promising but too soon to tell
TacTurtle@reddit
Lots of Taurus revolvers were absolute turds, I have seen a kaboomed Taurus cylinder with a standard pressure factory load (looked like a flaw in the cylinder stock or a heat treat err), a bunch with severe timing issues out of the box, and all sorts of atrocious triggers from machining tool marks and burrs.
Ironwarsmith@reddit
I had a coworker years ago in the late teens who had a brand fucking new Taurus revolver who's cylinder went kabloowie after only 200 rounds. Taurus wouldn't replace it and I've never wanted to spend money on a Taurus since then.
Never owned one, never will, have no desire to shoot one. Miss me with that nonsense.
SwanMuch5160@reddit
Better than they were 40 years ago, probably better than 20 years ago but they still suffer from Quality Control issues from time to time. I say this having owned 4 Tauruses over the last 30 years and still own one of their first batch of 1911’s they produced.
FistInsensitive@reddit
I've shot many guns from several manufacturers. The only company that I had a gun blow up in my hands was from taurus. Destroyed itself on the 2nd shoot because of a improperly timed cylinder. I contact the company and tell them the problem and they maintained radio silence after multiple attempts. I dont give a rats ass if they "improved" or whatever they will never get another cent from me.
AnAcceptableUserName@reddit
I went to the range with a friend who'd got some Taurus compact from a local sporting goods outfitter in 2010. I don't remember the model, but I watched him unbox the pistol, load up a mag with target 9mm from a factory, load the pistol, and take a ready stance.
He fired 3 shots and on the 4th the trigger stopped working. We all puzzled over it a little bit, then took it apart to find that one of the pieces of the trigger mechanism snapped in two. So his brand-new carry gun was a paperweight before it got through a single mag.
That's what I think of Taurus. I think about my friend's Taurus 9mm that left their factory and then broke after 3 shots before my very eyes. They lost me for life right there.
Strong_Dentist_7561@reddit
Revolvers ? “Fine” to “good” to “better than Smith/Ruger”. They can make a good quality revolver.
Automatics ? Hell no
TacTurtle@reddit
Taurus revolvers have been inferior in fit, finish, function, and QC to Smith and Ruger for decades, even when Smith and Ruger were having QC issues .
Strong_Dentist_7561@reddit
“Even when”… stuff it.
Ruger and Smith are having the worst QC/QA in DECADES right now. I carry a Smith Mdl 49 and M10 daily, depend on ‘em to protect the lives of myself and my loved ones; I’ve always been a die-hard Smith fan.
Parson me when I say I’d take a Taurus as equally as a new production Smith or Ruger today. The Taurus of today is NOT the Taurus of 20yrs ago.
M2LZ@reddit
Lots of timing issues. Had to send one back just recently. Brand New
SpikeBikerFur0044@reddit

Their revolvers and their old clone pistols are pretty decent. IRC their beretta clones were all done with actual beretta tooling.

SplashingChicken@reddit
I want one of their revolvers in .454 casull, but I also realize that it's a pretty nasty hand grenade should something go wrong.
Alpha_Hellhound@reddit
Their big bore revolvers are pretty solid. I've got the Raging hunter in .460 S&W and the all steel .454 Casull. Id shoot factory loads out of them, not hot reloads. If you want to shoot max loads, buy a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull or the S&W X frame in .460 or .500 S&W.
Alpha_Hellhound@reddit
I've got the Raging Hunter in both .460 S&W and in .454 Casull. Also have a few of their .357 and .38 revolvers. It's been my experience that Taurus and Rossi, both being basically the same company for a while, build decent revolvers. I don't carry them, and I don't hunt with them, but theyre great range guns.
I've never had good luck with their semi auto guns. Every one I've owned had issues.
Reloading-and-guns@reddit
I like my GX4. It’s a good truck/RZR gun that shoots fairly well (my skills lacking) and have had zero issues different ammo brands and it’s good thus far plus I think I paid like $215 for it new.
highvelocitypeasoup@reddit
Had a 605 warp its frame under recoil with factory loads to the point that the hammer would bind up and prevent it from firing. Tried for weeks to get taurus to answer a request but they never did. Taurus is one of two companies you cant pay me to fire one of their guns. Century is the other
boostedb1mmer@reddit
They're shitty guns. Guns are tools no need to assign emotional attachment to them, they are almost always the inferior available choice to anything else in the same product category. Don't buy them.
ArceusTwoFour_Zero@reddit
I have never really heard good things about Taurus.
But in my experience, I own a 1980s model 669. It has a blued finish, wood grips, an adjustable rear sight, and a 6 inch barrel with a full under lug. 6 rounds of 357 Magnum or 38 special.
It's a good revolver, and is it direct clone of the 586 s&w. It works really well, and I got it for an amazing price in like new condition with its original box and manuals. It is scarily accurate, like a laser, whether it be with 130 grain 38 special or 158 gr 357 mag. The trigger pull is long but very smooth, better than some newer revolvers, it's definitely has a better trigger pull than my 2009 Smith & Wesson model 64. Just my .02 cents.
MonkeKhan1998@reddit
Cheap with bad QC, they’re a company that wants to get by on the vibes/aura of their guns alone.
“Check out this RAGING BULL revolver chambered in the powerful and expensive .454 round!”
I’ll pass on Taurus every time thank you very much.
FYIstillplaysleague@reddit
They've gotten allot better and customer service is actually helpful, last time I sent something in to Taurus, it was out of warranty they fixed it anyways and even sent me extra factory parts along with a few stickers stuffed in there as well.
Ty Taurus !
timc_720@reddit
Don’t.
texasscotsman@reddit
I've never had a problem with their revolvers and think they're pretty good for their price. I haven't acquired a newer model from Taurus, maybe this isn't true anymore, but they tend to be heavier since they use a lower quality alloy than say a S&W, so they bulk up their frames to compensate.
I've never owned or operated one of their semi-autos, and they have a bad rep for a good reason, they used to be very unreliable. However, from other people I've heard that they have greatly increased in quality over the last decade or so and so they are fine now, but I can't attest to it personally.
FunWasabi5196@reddit
I like my Raging Bull.
Is it as refined or as nice as a Ruger or Smith and Wesson? No.
Have I ever had a problem with it? No.
Does it shoot pretty darn well? Yes.
FabiusBill@reddit
I have a Raging Bull, too, in .44.
It shoots all day and takes whatever I feed it, from 240gr jacketed soft points to 350gr hard casts. It's proven to be reliable and surprisingly accurate for the nearly 2 decades I've owned it. When my eyes were younger, I could reliably hit a softball at 100yds with it, using the open sights.
asoupo77@reddit
A brand I'll never be spending my money on.
Unusual-Ad-1056@reddit
They are fine. There were some issues with the semis from time to time but I have never had one with the revolvers. I had a pt111 that shot great. But haven’t had a semi since that.
Ultrasuperbro2@reddit
Absolutely crap. Worst customer service level. The early ones were good, built from old S&W parts. After that, it tanked.
Putrid-Tutor-5809@reddit
I am fascinated by their prices but I don’t like what I’ve heard about their QC, past or present.
However, they have released a competitor to the Kuna that is a true roller-delay action, unlike the Kuna. Only heard they released for sale to Brazilian Police, but it sounds very promising
TryHard-Rune@reddit
I have a G3C with 8k rounds through it at least, it’s loud, snappy, and a hard pull on the trigger, but it’s never failed to do its job. For 250$ I’d take it any day
IceBear5656@reddit
I bought a 608 as my first handgun. I’ve enjoyed it thus far. Granted, I only have about 100 rounds through it but it’s a lot of fun to shoot, fun to keep beside the seat in my car.

They’ve always been okay, but lately they’ve been on fire 🔥 Their tx22 is probably the best 22lr semi-automatic on the market. I don’t say that lightly, as I have two Mk IV’s. They also have one of the best micro-compact 9mm’s. And just recently, they released a pretty cool roller delayed 9mm PCC. Whom ever is at the helm these days, is definitely making Taurus a household name, again

After a good smith worked through two of my dad's revolvers from the '80s, they are great. I plan on picking up a tx22 for fun plinking and to teach my kids how to shoot.
