Years ago I took my SKS to the public range for the first time. I set up, chambered, and proceeded to have the entire magazine run away on me after the first shot. I got a bunch of dirty looks from the guys with their hunting rifles.
Not impossible but id say kinda unlikely. SKSs slam firing is a well known and documented issue. So its "when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras" situation. What is odd about this video is how the rifle waited till the last couple rounds in the mag to slam fire, which could be a point towards the bump firing argument. But id counter that by saying the rounds fired way too fast for them to be bumps.
Slam fire. Can happen on the SKS when the firing pin has excess cosmoline/gunk/carbon since the firing pin is free floating. I always recommend keeping it clean or getting an aftermarket firing pin spring.
there might be cosmoline left inside the firing pin you never cleaned, you you need to clean out the firing pin, if theres stuff inside it and it seizes up the pin from depressing, you get that
I wouldn’t call this a runaway. Maybe a slam fire. If you put a lot of rounds through it this could have been a round cooking off- I’ve done that a couple times with my AR.
so only 2 rounds? puny compared to my pps43 that ran away a whole mag twice until I went home and sanded the firing pin channel for 2 days... heh... can't beat polish machine work... that's for sure...
Make sure to fully disassemble the bolt and clean the firing pin channel. If there's cosmoline in there, the firing pin can get stuck in the forward position.
I had a slamfire on my first SKS, first shot of a full mag, with the rifle just resting on the bench to zero. I literally don’t know how I reacted fast enough to get my hand over the rifle and hold it down, it was all a blur. Definitely scared the living shit out of me and I’ve never treated firearms the same since. Any new gun, new trigger, or any new work or parts that affects the firing mechanism I load three rounds for several mags until I feel confident in it.

Love SKS, already own 3, I want more.

Does everyone setup a phone when they shoot like a OF chick?

The downfall of our civilization began when everyone started carrying a video recording device 24/7.

Have you seen the number of feet pics in the sub?

😂😂😂

More than necessary, not nearly enough.

If I have to see feet it gets downvoted.

Fuckin no poops...
joelfarris@reddit
Not only that, they even do it when they're not shooting like an OF chick!
the_duck17@reddit
Yes, I like to make sure I'm getting the ejection pattern I want or I'm keeping good habits with my grip/strance/etc.
And I like watching my guns shoot.

Its my phone camera. Its set on a ammo can on top of a rifle bag.
Im not fliming a movie you know.
SergeiMosin@reddit
I do sometimes, usually just to check my form.
Big_Bill23@reddit
Yeah, it happens. The fix is to take the bolt apart and clean it. Then a light oil.

I had the same thing happen with my M1 Garand once... double fire of 30-06 really shook me. 😅
itsyaboyivan@reddit
how bad do you need to let a Garand get for that to happen?
pacmanwa@reddit
Mine was still almost still fresh refurbished from CMP, I had maybe 100 rounds through it when that happened, and it hasn't happened since.
McCrazyJ@reddit
You jiggle when you shoot. For every round you plan to fire, you owe a mile of walking or a block of jogging.
goshathegreat@reddit
Slam fire is very common with the SKS, make sure the firing pin and channel is clean, if it’s super dirty this is likely what caused it.
StanfordWrestler@reddit
Is it possible it was a bump fire with a loose grip but firm trigger finger being the cause?
SergeiMosin@reddit
I’ve tried to shoulder bump fire mine, couldn’t get it down. Now with a finger wrapped on a belt loop, I can dump a mag very VERY fast. I

Still have some cosmoline in the bolt at firing pin.

I'm expecting full auto? Is this 1 rpm that can't be stopped?

It fired 2 very quickly at the end. It had happened a few times before I set up the camera
Minimum-Web-6902@reddit
Yeah I had to really watch to notice lol. Yeah that was a runaway it almost looked like one bullet.
jeremycvegs@reddit
I had this happen with an Ar-9 that belongs to my friend. When you’re not expecting it; it’s very jarring.
TurboEncabulator_1@reddit
SKS holds 10 rounds and locks open when empty. There were 9 trigger pulls before the bolt locked open. It slam fired the last round in the magazine.

Just a double, not a runaway. Clean the the thing.

Cyclic on a SKS with a dirty/sticking firing pin is insane.
