Yes. But it’s a versatile word and can also mean “bullshit” (“he’s talking bollocks”) or “very good” if you specify dogs (“that meal was the dog’s bollocks”).

The fact that Python code is based on indents and you can break an entire program just by adding a space somewhere is insane

Posted by PooningDalton@reddit | learnprogramming | View on Reddit | 618 comments

rogfrich@reddit

It depends what you’re used to. Python was my first language, and I really like significant indentation. I find _for me_ it makes it easy to read which bits are in which block. I’ve recently started learning Swift, my first curly-braces language. I have a harder time tracking code blocks in curly braces than I do in indented Python. I completely accept that people travelling in the other direction may have a different experience. I think what this shows is that it’s important to recognise that people have preferences, but to not treat those preferences as objective facts.

I saw someone once answer a scammer call like this: “Can I stop you there, sir? This is Detective Inspector (made up name). What is your relationship to Mr (his real name)? Because we’re treating his death as suspicious, and clearly we need to know why you’re calling. You’re a person of interest. Where are you calling from? Oh, it’s OK, I’m being told we’ve got your location from the call. There’s a car on the way…”

Yep, there were long-term roadworks near me that had signs to the effect of “queue in both lanes, merge at the end”. It made a big difference. They also had a big sign with a simple, easily memorised URL, which took you to a page about what they were doing, why the roadworks were necessary and let you sign up for updates.

I think you’re saying that you’re trying to access SQL DBs managed by XAMPP from Python scripts, but your question isn’t clear. If your environment is complex, a diagram would help, even if you sketch it by hand and photograph it.
