Firstly, even if it rains it may not be heavy or all day so you may get some outdoor photos. It rained on my friend’s wedding day for some of the time they were taking photos they had see through umbrellas which they used for some photos, they were really nice pictures

Is it ok in British culture for people to stay silent while eating together?

Posted by Sufficient_Act_24@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 598 comments

Violet351@reddit

When I was married we would sit up at the table and have a proper chat whilst eating. I also dated someone who just liked to watch tv during meal times. The issue here is that he called conversations with you boring. Why is he with you if he doesn’t want to talk to you?

How do I stop my upstairs from getting way hotter than downstairs?

Posted by Food_Cats1@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 225 comments

Violet351@reddit

Heat rises, it’s always warmer upstairs. You can block the south facing windows with cardboard or I’ve also seen mentions of tin foil. Otherwise keep curtains shut and windows shut. Open the windows in the evening when it starts to cool down

Pyjama people, how do you survive the warm nights?

Violet351@reddit

I don’t wear pjs as I don’t like things on my lower legs when sleep but I find I’m hotter if my skin is touching more skin so I wear a nightie and then wrap a bamboo sheet around to make sure my skin isn’t touching

I don’t often use the kettle because I don’t drink coffee at all and rarely drink tea. It’s probably been a few weeks so even if I used it recently and went to use it again, I would empty it just out of habit

What are your views on colleagues who eat breakfast at their desk?

Posted by lostless-soul@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 48 comments

Violet351@reddit

Lots of people I work with eat breakfast at work including me. If I’m rushing around I tend to feel a bit queasy if I eat before I leave and if I leave later I will probably be late for work whereas if I leave when I do, I have time to eat before my start time. I’d have to get up earlier to have breakfast at home

do you struggle to use your annual leave?

Posted by Maleficent_Day_3869@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 338 comments

Violet351@reddit

I get 30 days a year, sometimes I used to carry stuff over but normally I would just book a week or so off near the end to make sure I use it all. I often take two weeks in October but one year my colleague was off for a month so I only took a week so I ended up having two full weeks off at Christmas

I'm curious. Can you tell me about your most annoying work colleagues? I'll start....

Posted by Spirited-Ad-9558@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 420 comments

Violet351@reddit

I used to work with someone that would keep a sweet shop size tub of sweets in his desk and he would never offer anyone one (that’s not the annoying thing). He would always ask me how to do things questions and if the answer wasn’t what he wanted to hear he would just ask everyone until he found someone that agreed with him one day, I was just so fed up with him wasting my time that I told him I wasn’t going to keep doing this and go and find someone else to ask. My boss looked at me in shock until I explained he never accepts the answer I give him which was the correct answer. (This is the annoying thing). He then got his rub of sweets out and took the round offering every person one except me. My boss noticed and I just giggled and said it’s my punishment for earlier

If you’re signed off for something contagious stay at home, if it’s stress and mental health related getting out might help. When I hurt my back the advice was to walk so I would walk round the block a couple of times a day

Money, the internet is taking so much business from every where. Rents, pay, utilities are expensive. High street shops are closing because they just can’t afford to keep them running. Hospitality is really struggling. Whitbread has just announced the complete shutdown of beefeater and brewers fayre. TGIs closed a bunch of restaurants when they went in to administration, Pizza Hut had gone into administration twice since Covid. All the local chiquitos and the Italian have American one owned by the same company have closed. You really have to stand out to keep the customers
