A big meaty call out to the best thing about trucking. Google Maps.

Posted by GiantEnemaCrab@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 73 comments

Foxlen@reddit

Google maps is still significantly out-dated, wrong and outright misleading for my region Ive attempted to fix issues, but they regularly get rejected even when I submit picture evidence Incorrect road names, fake addresses, roads that don't exist anymore, roads that never existed to begin with, Manually tracing on satellite can get you out if a pinch, but I wouldn't trust more than that Our rules here still consist of dont listen to google But atleast it doesn't reroute you to foreign countries like apple maps crap

Mud pit at the bottom of a hill, 13km down road that ceased to exist years ago Parts of it were too soft so large wooden mats were placed to float on top I had big wide luggy float tyres tho, tri drives rule

What are the most common Sports Coupes you see driving around in your State (Country for those outside of the US)?

Idk, ive rarely seen any, but I grew up in and live in the north , like I said, cars are rare here Pickups are the default, SUVs are the exception I could imagine down south and out east, they probably had popularity

Cant speak for country, we too are huge But my area? None People rarely use any kind of cars here, 4x4s with decent clearance are dominant here due to lack of road infrastructure Low clearance vehicles just get wrecked and/or stuck I will say, there is a lifted 2 door Yaris with A/Ts and offroad lights i see every once in a while, its beautiful

The plastic bumpers (considered part of the crumple zone) they use are not more durable that if it were steel I didnt say bad.. I said less durable I live in the remote north so this matters alot to me, plastic doesn't hold up well, its especially weak in lower temperatures

I apologize for making fun of Volvos.

Posted by emdefmek@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 77 comments

Foxlen@reddit

Idk about Volvo cuz Ive never worked for a company than runs them, always hear good things about them as highway only trucks But ive never encountered a reliable freightliner , their off the lot quality control its nuts bad A company I was working for bought 5 2024s new, we had 4/5 trucks break down in less than 48 hours of using them (2 of them being westernstar 47x.. basically same thing) Their transmissions fail at colder temps (freightliner said to use manual mode and run higher RPM to avoid failure) None of the trucks could go more than week without some sort of failure One of them had complete failure electronic wise and had to be towed back to freightliner If other new trucks are worse that that, why does anyone buy new trucks? But dont listen to me, im an off highway driver, aero trucks are all garbage to me, regardless of reliability .. mud and street trucks dont mix lol

Posted by OkBackground6217@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 82 comments

Foxlen@reddit

Not cry, but lots of quiet sitting doing nothing Was a vehicle i bought new Was proud to get a vehicle that I didnt have to worry about what the last owner did to it They no longer sell the configuration new (including all other brands), and the new ones they do have are filled with crap i dislike It was a moment of "now wtf do I do", get a new one and be forced to significantly upsize? Pay wildly stupid prices? Or buy used, take a gamble on previous owner, and still end up paying way to fuckin much cuz prices across the board suck right now Took a few months for even one to show up nationwide, I ended up paying the price of a new one for an out of warranty used vehicle cuz limited supply and high demand brand

Bought a newer low km truck from a dealership of its same brand thinking it'd be good and immediately started catching up maintenance and fixing minor issues and installing things that are standard on vehicles sold in my area Long story short It was fucked So I stupidly dumped 4k into a truck, that was fucked, I knew it was fucked, I kept going hoping the dealer would fix it (and they were cooperating) When they finally figured out the issue, they took the truck back and gave me another Repairs are being reimbursed However everything else? Fuel, nearest Toyotais over 350km away tire changes (troubleshooting) Lost wages from taking time off to adress the problem I got all 50,000km maintenance done (cuz most of it wasn't done) 3rd party inspections That comes out of my pocket, never to return I didnt want to buy another one, but the new ones suck.. so losing my good one that I took care of left me no other choice than to gamble used Lesson learned, ive done absolutely fucking nothing to this truck, giving it time before I start installing my gear or doing any maintenance

If you had $60K and could only pick one vehicle for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Posted by breakerofh0rses@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 1017 comments

Foxlen@reddit

Toyota Tacoma 2016-23 Context, I dont live in an urban setting, I live in the north where infrastructure lacks Smaller than other new trucks, meaning not terrible if I have to visit a city that has parkades Lightweight, good in mud and snow, doesn't dig deep ruts in summer Long box option, yeah American brands dont have this.. weird af , can haul more without upsizing to land yacht Reliable compared to other options Non LED lights, better in winter produces heat, doesn't fuck the eye sockets of incoming drivers like other new vehicles Uncluttered engine bay, I hate cramped and cluttered engine bays Less unnecessary tech for its era, it has a normal handbrake, none of that steering wheel auto centre crap, no auto start stop Great aftermarket support .. lots of cheap wannabe crap, but also lots of good stuff

Which of these options would you choose?

Posted by Kantonkerous@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 76 comments

I was highway maintenance for a while, An impressive job, people expect the road to be able to handle highway speeds, no matter how hard it snows So we'd have to keep on top of things because the public is too stupid to slow down Making it important for us to protect people from their own stupidity Its an important job.. no highway = no travel / no goods move
