I saw this on Facebook, a rookie driver got $1,200 in tickets on his 2nd day solo.

GVWR is the MAXIMUM the truck is rated for which I assume is 80K in this case. Weight of the load is irrelevant unless it's used to calculate the amount of the overweight ticket.
Virtchoo@reddit
I hate that most places will put these signs maybe 30 feet past the intersection. I really like the ones on the corners, but in all reality judging from the photo it’s not a road I would enjoy driving a truck on.
kiingjamir@reddit
So… you still get ticketed even though you have a delivery there? I deliver on roads that say no trucks or no trucks over 30ft and 16 tons a lot. But not sure what else to do if the customer lives on that road. And my truck and trailer weighs 15 tons empty.
ParticularArrival111@reddit
No. You cannot be ticketed you are exempt for local delivery.
Heather_Val@reddit
Oh, I always love it when I can show the police my B O L and be like yeah I have to be here.
ParticularArrival111@reddit
I love driving right past then as ltl. The locals go loco. Lol
Foxlen@reddit
Dang, ive driven pick ups heavier than that limit
Mydogfartsconstantly@reddit
Surprised metro pd actually did something.
forkystabbyveggie@reddit
I don't think calling Nanticoke PA "Metro" is very accurate.
Mydogfartsconstantly@reddit
Ah I saw the nashville address thought it was in nashville. As a local its surprising to see nashville metro pd ever pull trucks over.
forkystabbyveggie@reddit
Ohhh, no.
That's where Western is HQd. Yeah they call it crashville for a reason. Zero traffic enforcement that I've seen in nearly a decade of going through there multiple times a week
Mydogfartsconstantly@reddit
I live there. Im aware of the issues. Last week I watched a car clip the driver side steer tire of a truck on i24 which cause the truck to hit the car to the right of him and that car to hit the truck to the right of him. So business as normal.
forkystabbyveggie@reddit
Typical for i24. Was this se of Nashville around Antioch? There's usually a backup in that area caused by shit like this
Mydogfartsconstantly@reddit
Lmao ya it was at the bell rd exit. I drive on it daily. My air horn gets plenty of use.
forkystabbyveggie@reddit
I really hate how accurately I called that one
Mydogfartsconstantly@reddit
Lavergne to 440 on i24 is the gauntlet.
ComprehendReading@reddit
Think they're more scene than metro?
Deadbeatdone@reddit
The 2010s were an odd time to be young.
FantasticPainting232@reddit
But it's still the 20.....oh. :(
Deadbeatdone@reddit
Sorry bud we're 30. :(
SeaRow556@reddit
What are you talking about? You breathe wrong in pa and you'll get fined. PA is notorious for having some of the most strict yet weirdly professionally relaxed law enforcement officers in the country... the real question is if this western express driver is being charged twice for the same crime
FantasticPainting232@reddit
Looks like a ticket for the violation itself and a ticket for ignoring the sign.
Antique_One7110@reddit
State and local violations. Different jurisdictions, different jeopardies, different violations. Double jeopardy only applies to criminal cases, and only when it’s the same government prosecuting, that is, state and federal courts can convict you of the same crime. Most traffic violations are civil matters.
lleu81@reddit
I think I would fight that. The “over 25k” means that lighter trucks would be allowed and if the only reason the driver was pulled over was that he was in a truck, maybe a good lawyer could at least get the ticket reduced?
Also, watch for signs and don put yourself in situations like this.
aacawe@reddit
The officer went by the weight listed on the BOL. Driver may get out of it or reduced with a lawyer and a friendly prosecutor, but he ain’t getting off on some technicality. That’s a clear violation.
davidcornz@reddit
Even an empty trailer would still get violated. No way it weighed less then 25k.
davidcornz@reddit
No, there is no 53ft truck and trailer combo that i have ever seen that was under 29k. Like and that was a daycab with a quarter tank.
groovyinutah@reddit
Expensive lesson, don't expect any help from Western Express....
GroundbreakingSir386@reddit
Once I got pulled over doing a delivery in a gated community with a 48-foot trailer lift-gate, someone called the police on me, and I was just wrapped up a delivery. I told the cop it’s not my fault that they ordered 4 pallets of bullets, and he let me go. That delivery probably should’ve been a Box truck delivery at least but my company doesn’t care.
Legitimate_Diver_699@reddit
As in ammo? 😂
albertyiphohomei@reddit
No, the vibrator bullet
ParticularArrival111@reddit
Nah nutribullet
GroundbreakingSir386@reddit
Hey bro I don’t ask questions. 😂
iMax69@reddit
Sounds like you work for a company with green for a logo. Cause that sounds familiar to mine 🤣
GroundbreakingSir386@reddit
XPO all the way 🤑
Super_flywhiteguy@reddit
Im glad i do line haul. P&d for xpo is just dumb. More than half of our residential drop offs cant even be reached. They need more a ups van.
GroundbreakingSir386@reddit
It’s alright we get overtime doing anything after 8 hours on the west coast it’s either that or driving a wiggle wagon with triples.
Super_flywhiteguy@reddit
Im doing doubles til im six months in then im allowed to do triples
ap_23@reddit
All the LTL companies are the same. The freight has to be brought back at least 3 times by different drivers before they think about using a box truck.
Hornet-Standard@reddit
And that is why No one wants to drive a truck where else can you go to work and get a 1200 fine for a simple mistake. I used to pull a 6 axle trailer weighing in at 136000 lbs and we used to have to lift the axles to turn a corner if God forbid you forgot to put them back down instantly you could get a 10k to 15k overweight ticket in michigan.
Electronic_Macaron_9@reddit
Normally I completely ignore these, but last week I was in Medina and theres a 10,000lb weight limit for a bridge. Turned around for that one.
kaneabel@reddit
Look up the truck driver that destroyed an historic bridge in Paoli Indiana about a decade ago. I woke up to the noise of that happening. She was ex-Amish, had only been driving prepped for about a year and went through a school to get her CDL which she had for a couple months at this point. Completely ignored the multiple signs with the height and weight she was over. She had even stopped before entering and AFTER she started tearing shit up KEPT ON THE THROTTLE and completely destroyed the bridge and her truck and trailer
rolisrntx@reddit
A couple of years ago here, a cement mixer tried to cross a bridge in a residential area with a 10,000 lb load rating. The bridge collapsed and the truck went into the canal underneath it. The bridge was the only way in and out of that part of the neighborhood.

Not that bad, I had a coworker get a $46k ticket for an oversize permit violation
kleenvwaudiguy@reddit
I'm guessing this might have happened in Illinois?
dewky@reddit
Our fines here are $115 for most permit violations and still people freak out like it's the end of the world when they get it.
ComprehendReading@reddit
That's a career-ending violation.
The fine is not great either.
pianodude01@reddit
Yup. You wanna play in the big leagues, you gotta follow ALL the rules. Theres no making mistakes here
december151791@reddit
Am I missing something or are these two tickets just different wordings of the same thing?
Confident-Mud-390@reddit
What does "obedience to traffic control device" mean? Is there some magical government issued device installed in the cab that gives some driving instructions from time to time?
december151791@reddit
It's a fancy way of saying "sign".
PapiApi@reddit
I just got a tickets with a 8 ton mountain highway restriction with my 34000 lbs load... That's around $5000 worth in tickets and I honestly don't know what I am gonna do.
KingofthePi11@reddit
Pay it off in installments or try to find a low interest loan you can take out If you can't bite the bullet and pay it all off. Maybe even hire on a CMV lawyer.
DFA_Wildcat@reddit
Ticket issued at 10:50 pm, if it ain't right haul it at night, still didn't pan out.
Gamertime_2000@reddit
Here in Washington this is probably the most ignored sign of them all. I see school buses take roads that are tight for priuses
andre3kthegiant@reddit
Let me guess, there is a go-fund me attached to the Facebook post?

Weight or length restrictions? Turn around & disappoint dispatch🤣

I drive two blocks past a “no over 14K” sign three times a week. This is a nightmare for me
