147mph/236.5kmh in my personal car.
1993 VR6 Corrado, 5 speed.
Confirmed by the policeman's radar.
Adult choice on a deserted road before leaving for military in the middle east 20 years ago.
When he asked if I knew how fast I was going, I replied "no idea because the peg stopped the needle at 140.
Good thing I was already in my military uniform! He advised me to be careful going through an area farther south. Good times!

112 on water felt insane. Couldn't breathe without covering your face.
They wait until the evening when the water settles then race from one marina to the other. Usually elm hill to four corners(Percy Priest lake). Ain't no speed limit on the water. The jet boats usually get the jump. But the multi drive cigarettes easily catch up then walk away.
Hearing dozens of big blocks , some blown , some on jet drives some on props. All at full tilt, Is absolutely insane. Those boats gets gallons per mile not miles per gallon.
I was in a boat that did around 95 on lake havasu. The water looks unnatural moving at you that fast. I opened a beer, we went up on plane for about 5 minutes, when we stopped my beer was completely flat. Shook all the carbonation out of it.
A stock Hyabusa will easily go faster stock if you just remove the speed limiter . But it voids the warranty. And no DOT legal tire is rated to do those speeds for more than a few seconds.
It's amazing how smooth big cars feel at speed. I hit 100 a few times in my Crown Victoria and it feels like just cruising down the road. Meanwhile I hit 80 about every day in my little Ford Fiesta and it feels like I'm going 150. Lmao
That’s the appeal of German cars for many of us. They may only weigh in at 3000 pounds but feel twice as heavy. My A3 sportback is quieter an smoother at 100 than at 50 mph.
Hit 145 in a tuned vb wrx in the middle of the night on an interstate. Not another person on the road but looking back at it hitting a deer at that speed would probably not end well. Haven’t bothered to go much over 80 since doing that a few years ago.
My previous record with the top down was in my S2000 and I did 147, so I had to best that in my Huracan with the top down and I did, 172, in Mexico. I also did 158 on my R6 but you asked about cars. Allways in Mexico.
Had a long stretch on a deserted interstate late at night one time in mine, it stopped going up around the 155 mark but I remember my speedometer was always a few mph off.
Notice I say indicated. As in, that's what the speedometer read. So there's two possibilities, given it was bone stock: either the data you got is wrong, or the speedometer reading was inaccurate. Given it's a versa, it's more likely that the speedometer reading was just inaccurate, which is fairly normal at those speeds, given that speedometers can be inaccurate by +/- 10%, normally. So if we assume it was off by +10%, then we multiply 135x .1 to get the 10%, we get 13.5, so subtract that from 135mph, gives us 121.5, as an approximation. Which still leaves us off, though I can't guarantee the car had the correct size tires or not, given it was running old used tires and it's been so long. I definitely ran weird sizes at time when they didn't have the right size. Definitely possible the Speedo could have been off a tad more due to that.
Analog speedometers are prone to large positive errors when speeds are above what they are designed for. My 72 Datsun 240Z speedometer is good to 60 mph, indicates about 110 when I drive 90 (closed course, professional driver) 😁
130 in NC3 Miata
There rural turnpike that is like 100 miles. I have drove it several times, and at night it's so emptying. During that whole 100 miles, it; only has 2 entry and exit points.
130 and had it like that for 3 or 3 minutes until I slowed to 85 and had my cruise control on
Speed limiter on 2022 model 3 LR. I think it was bouncing off 145.
I was being stupid on New Year’s, but at least I made sure it was a completely empty stretch in the HOV lane
One thing I didn’t realize is how long it takes to slow down from 145 lol. Glad I know now I’m glad that I also know they will take your ass to jail for speeds like that
i drove a saab 900 turbo (the 1980s version) up to about the same speed. it got there before i could even realize how fast i was going. but i definitely was a dumb teenager. there's no doubting it was a cool car, my friend put me in the driver's seat of his car and rode along to let me see what it was like to drive. if i could ignore the numerous costs to buy one and keep it running, I'd love to own one today.

205kmh (127-ish mph) - Toyota Avensis 3rd gen 1.8 VVTI. But on the German Autobahn multiple times, legally. Its incredibly sluggish above 140-150kmh (85-95mph)...
120 mph, 66 Pontiac Bonneville convertible. Was going to bury the needle in Arizona only to realize 125 and 130 were unnumbered. I quit at 120. Wife was sleeping in the back seat and didn’t wake up.
Fastest I’ve personally driven is 117mph , which is the absolute flat out max for my 1998 1.9l z3 🤣 with my buddy driving his vette he hit 160 w me in the passenger before we got sketched lol
My brothers 04 Escalade. I made it to end of the speedometer in it. Don’t remember if it was 120 or 140. I was 18 and a dumbass. That was too much truck to be going that fast
125 in a 1986 BMW 535i. I was on the Jersey Turnpike headed towards NYC to sell it when I realized I never found out its top speed. I got to 125 and still had a little RPM room in 5th but 125 was already too fast for me!!
I did around 125 in my 1982 Mustang GT, but the speedometer only went to 85, so it was a guess at that point? That’s when the transmission was a 3 speed plus 4th was overdrive. I was wound out tight in 3rd about 5300 rpm, and the speedo needle was pegged straight down against the trip reset button.
175 in my ZL1 racing a 23 Lamborghini Huracan. Also did 180 on my Haybusa racing my friend in his Audi R8. Didn’t ever realize till I looked down and realized I better slow down.
Just stumbled upon this and im not sure if women are allowed in this subreddit but I bought a stock 09 dodge charger srt8 for $2,000. it has a 6.1L HEMI and i shoved a turbo in there and got up to 192mph on the track.
Blew the transmission not too long ago so shes sitting in the garage for a while.
120-130 is so easy to hit in new cars. Even 4 bangers. Durango hellcat got there in a few seconds. I got rid of that after 1200 miles. Drove it like an ass too much.
Fastest I’ve ever driven is 120 in my Hemi 300. Fastest I’ve even been a passenger for, my friend in college had an ‘03 Mach 1 Mustang, we took it out one night and buried the speedometer at 150 MPH, kept pushing the tachometer higher until we felt the front end start to lift and get squirrelly - probably 165-170 range.
1990’s Hyundai Elantra 130 mph from Venice to Trieste on the Italian Autostrata every Friday night for a year. Transmission only lasted 50,000 miles before it died. That run burned almost a full tank of gas.
I couldn’t honestly say but I’ve had several cars pegged with the needle pinned and have been balls out on a mid to late eighties Honda cr 500 2 stroke I only did that once or twice it was like riding a rocket
172 in a dodge charger (stock car) while doing the Richard Petty Experience at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But on a public highway, 144 in a 96 Viper. It was a friend’s car and I wasn’t driving. Younger and stupid! But wow!!
I was in my early twenties, At the time I had a Fiat 124 spider that could barely claw it's way to 115mph. I had been doing some repair to it, so I borrowed my father's car to go to work. He had a 260z that was decked out with a chin spoiler, covered headlights, a ducktail spoiler and the engine had been heavily breathed on.
Because I lived at the shore here in NJ, the causeways between the islands the mainland were generally dead straight with no place for a cop to hide. They had had just finished replacing the road and bridges between Somers Point, Ocean City, and Longport. I decided to see what his car could do on this inviting strip of road.
In short, The car was still accelerating at about150mph, indicated on the speedometer, when I looked down. I was expecting to see about 100mph or so. I scared myself, left off the gas, and treated that car very gingerly until it drowned in a spring tide flood a couple of years later.
Somewhere north of 120mph (after seeing the needle swing past that, my eyes were glued to the road), in a 1992 Subaru SVX. It was wet but not actively raining. Nearly empty expressway. I was young, dumb, and frustrated/angry with my life.
136 in my X5M per GPS. Was on cruise control and not in race mode. Held it for about 5 minutes then common sense smacked me in the back of the head.
Never did try to see if it had more than that.
I was in high-school in the early 1970s. I was borrowing my parents car a 68 Mercury with a 390 in it. My Chevrolet wagon with a 283 and 2 speed slush box was in the shop. There was a 2-3 miles of brand new straight pavement with open fields on both sides on the way to my destination. Just before the straight a way three state troopers passed me going in the opposite direction. I thought what's the chance of any more cops? I decided to see if I could bury the 120mph speedometer, so I did. Near that end of the straight away is a little hill. A state trooper had a relative my age pulled over. As I passed him going 100+ I saw him writing the driver a ticket. I never did such a stupid stunt again.
It was on Mallala raceway in South Australia, this GTR was stupidly fast and stopped hard...
I've never been put back in my seat and thrown forward so hard in my life!
130+ over-indicated in my former 1976 Lancia Scorpion (modified to 160 hp+), I remember at 110mph the wind noise dropped dramatically...which was so strange. Probably starting to have aerodynamic lift/low pressure etc
1988 5 speed Holden Barina, 4 people in the car maxed out the Speedo at 220 kmh (136 miles). Cheese cutter tires, absolutely stupid if someone had pulled out infront of me or a tire blown…..
135 in a modified 99 Mercury Cougar. It had more, but I was on a back road at night, and got nervous about hitting a deer and just disintegrating. It was stupid to even do.
130 mph: 2003 Toyota Celica GTS. Was chasing a crotch rocket, caught up, but the rider was just toying with me as he downshifted and sped off into the distance like it was nothing as my car hit the max speed limit.
An indicated 140mph in a 1990 ZR-1, as a passenger. As a driver? 105mph on a 1989 Suzuki LT250R Quadracer (still have the time slip), 210kmh (non calibrated speedometer) 1998 Camaro SS.
260 km/h, 1993 Cadillac Seville. That's the fuel cutoff speed for that car, it won't let you go faster. I was young and needed to see it once. That was more than enough for me.
I went 85mph once cuz the speed limit was that high. This is reassuring me that we need to throttle more cars at 90mph. Yall crazy for putting others around you in these lethal positions.
102 in a Mustang Mach-E, chasing a BMW that passed me (doing 80) like I was sitting still. My car still had plenty of speed available (despite having only 1 gear), but once I hit the century mark it wasn't worth the potential ticket to catch the ultimate driving machine.
No idea in my first car, a built '73 'Stang. Pegged well past 120mph.
133mph in my ex's '04 Accord.
Fastest I know was 1st gen Altima, ironically. The speedo went to 140mph and I had it past that, lol. It was a work rental. Really fun car until they weighed them down in later years.
260km/h in 2 different cars, and 87 mustang with a mild tune and an 89 Supra. The Mustang felt frightening but the Supra felt planted and wanted more. Unfortunately it was governed to 260.
135mph in a non turbo 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS chasing an Acura NSX on interstate 80 somewhere in the middle of Nebraska. 5th gear maxed out and this dude leaves me like I was going the other way.
