Signs I’ve entered middle age: I’ve decided Dave Matthews Band is actually pretty good.

99.9% of the time I listen to variations of black and doom metal, but I still like DMB, always have. #41 is a masterpiece. I will say though, that they are *significantly* better live than recorded and are pretty much the only band that i hold that opinion for. I really only listen to their live at central park album. Listen to that version of two step, grey street and dont drink the water... ugh, so good.

Jello! A fun childhood treat that’s now a middle aged colonoscopy prep meal.

How many of you would consider yourselves addicted to your phones/social media?

Posted by Sufficient_Focus4174@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 121 comments

illprobablyeditthis@reddit

Im pretty addicted. Its.... bad, honestly. I cant sit through a TV show or read a book without thinking about what's going on on my phone. I can scroll Instagram for literally hours if left unchecked. I dont want to give all of it up, because I do use IG for tracking things like band / comedian tour notifications and social events, but goddamn do I need some kind of intervention. I used to love reading when I was a kid through my 20s, but my attention span has been literally non-existent ever since I got a smart phone.

YUP. I watched my grandmother slowly waste away after my grandfather died. All she did all day was sit on the couch and watch her stories and do crossword puzzles. First she needed a cane, then a walker, then a wheelchair. By that point, she literally couldn't lay flat anymore, her body was frozen in a sitting position. She eventually died in a nursing home. She never got up and walked because it hurt too much. Idk if it was the bunions or her the joints causing her pain (my god her feet were mangled by bunions), but I had a bunionectomy in my 30s and have started weight training this year. Im not going out like that.

Had no idea this was a thing. (In character album made by Joe Pecsi)

Do you feel satisfied with how your life went? Still planning on making any changes or just riding it out?

> I’m so used to just being at my house. girl yes, i feel that in MY bones! i moved across the state to be with someone and it didnt work out and then covid happened and then somehow 10+ years have passed and i've managed to make a single friend in all that time. i have no idea where anything is, no concept of my surrounding city, because ive been such a shut in lol people ask me if im new in town, i should just start saying yes to avoid the embarrassment lol

Thanks! I've been stepping out of my shell a lot this year, so maybe things are looking up. I joined a gym and am actually sticking with it, so working on my physical health has helped a lot. I also joined a few meetup groups that are working out pretty well so far in terms of socialization. I just spent so long in my late 20's and 30's being a total shut in that i feel like i missed out on so much of life? I feel like i have nothing to offer other people, because of a lack of experience, like i'm just a boring blob with no anecdotes after like the year 2005 lol but i also know that's just a me issue. I'm glad to hear you're breaking out of the cycle though, that makes me feel hopeful for the rest of my year <3

*sigh* I don't really know. My life took a hard right turn in my teens when my parents went off the deep end and did some things I wont get into. It lead directly to a life of crippling anxiety, self esteem issues and depression. Lost all my friends, never finished college, the works. I have a very decent career now, but im very alone. My life is ok, but i wonder who i would have been if all that didnt happen? Would I have a better career? Would my friends still be in my life? Would I have a partner? Would I have had the time/money/confidence to travel abroad to all the places im too scared to now? Idk. I kind of feel like im just alive right now, not really *living*, you know? Its not a bad life, and I dont necessarily have any regrets for the things I have personally done, but I cant help but wonder.

Seems like the only concerts I can go to these days are out of town. No one comes south of Orlando anymore. That being said, this is a festival and my days of going to festivals are well behind me, no matter where they are. Fuck that.

I don’t know about you guys, but I cannot keep up with pop culture these days. This is how I know I’m getting old. I guess I don’t care though. I know like a few musical artists that are current but for the most part when I hear new stars names I have no idea who they are or what they do.

I mean so is the show. People glorify it because the general message is positive, but how they greet there is gross. You can hand wave it all you want, but in one of the first episodes, they literally set up houlihan to be sexually assaulted in her tent and sit in chairs outside and laugh when she screams. Its not funny and if that is the "product of its time", the product fucking sucks.

Is having loved music (listening and making) growing up and now I couldn't care less a Xennial thing?

Posted by Content-Seaweed-6395@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 156 comments

illprobablyeditthis@reddit

Well. To be fair, i have a very specific taste in music so I've never really been one to "need" to find something new because I frequently find myself disappointed lol but I will occasionally venture into the "fans also like" recommendations and have found stuff there. I also follow some subreddits of my preferred genres and check out people's band recommendations there. I just plop everything into one playlist and put it on shuffle. My main playlist has 1841 tracks right now. Rarely gets old.

I can't remember the comedienne's name, but I saw a bit about this recently. She was saying that boys' fights are all about bravado and showing off. Girls' fights take a long time of deep seated issues to work up to, and then mean something when it gets to that point. The boys dont really want to fight, but the girls are ready to beat each others asses lol
