The 2026 Honda Civic Type R Is the Best-Driving Car Under $100,000: Review (Cars.com)

Posted by swampfox94@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 624 comments

VariationAgreeable29@reddit

My very first car was a second-gen CRX Si. I bought it used with 60,000 miles on it and was a four-year-old car. I drove it for four more years, doubled the mileage and sold it for the exact same money I bought it for. To this day that remains my favorite car ever. I’ve had a lot of great cars and that was the best. Yes, my $98,000 M3 feels worth every single penny. But I absolutely see a world where a $50,000 Honda civic type R feels worth 50,000. Both are glorious and neither detracts from the other.

Exactly my point. I test drove the Civic Type R and just was blown away. It made me smile in a way that very few cars have. Sure, it’s not as 0 to 60 champ but wow, it is SUCH a perfectHonda. For people who love the brand, it is absolutely the purest distillation of their engineer-driven ethos. As I said, I know there’s a lot of side eye in this thread, but it is really a world class machine.

Listen, I get the side-eye in here but we gotta give credit to Honda to sticking to the philosophy for DECADES. Few are the mass market automakers who refuse to let these spiritual torch-bearers die. Toyota couldn’t do it with the MR2, Celica, or even Supra. The Nissan Z is a stale boring joke. Mitsu Evo long gone. Even Chevy couldn’t keep Camaro going (Chevy figuring Corvette should and could be their 911 and thus worth 10000% of the engineering talents). Hat tip to them (and to Ford for the Mustang). The Civic Type R is a legend and an icon.

Audi lost their way probably about five years ago when they started redesigning cars that looked identical to the ones that they replaced. Also, the absolute naming confusion and re-badging has just confused everyone. The interiors have not kept date and the exteriors just look tired.

OK, I’m ready for down votes. But isn’t this sort of true? Like, there can’t possibly be enough engineers, mathematicians, scientists, programmers, developers, etc. coming out of schools who are born in this country and raised in this country to satisfy the insatiable need of companies around the country. This is far beyond companies paying more, which obviously they’re willing to do in the tech industry. The problem is that they’re just aren’t enough highly skilled highly ambitious super smart kids coming out of schools today. Made in America can’t really happen because of the lack of ambitio

We have a nation full of fat lazy children who are coddled and simultaneously ignored. They grow up in front of their iPads, drinking soda and eating processed foods. Their parents don’t make sure they’re doing their homework and the kids have no interest in learning. We started falling behind easily 40 years ago. The fact that the current administration is hell-bent on keeping out immigrants,, even legal ones who are literally the building blocks of the tax sector and all of our fast growing companies, is outrageous and shortsighted.

[Motor Trend] 2025 911 Base Model Review

Posted by cookingboy@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 146 comments

VariationAgreeable29@reddit

Test drove a 2025 Carrera and it was… fine. The one I drove stickered at $154k and featured the new two-tone full leather interior and the new 21” wheels. The interior quality was good but not blow away — another 911 on the showroom floor didn’t have full leather and interior looked and felt cheap and plasticky. The new 21” wheels have this ring around the edge that actually makes them look like they’re 18”wheels. Obviously for aerodynamics, but from aesthetic standpoint just so wrong The ride quality was about what I would expect, nice and taut and lives to the hype. The steering was fantastic. Engine power was pretty adequate, but certainly nothing life altering. An M4 Comp XDrive is faster to 60 and feels far more visceral. This gen 911 has lost the edge it always had and drives like a mature GT that’s obviously been tuned more for the Chinese market. Oh well.

Here in LA we are deep into Escalades. Super popular. I spoke to a guy at Cadillac Beverly Hills and he says the V goes out the door with $25k premium all day long. Escalades IQ will do mighty fine here, Miami, Houston and Dallas, the Hamptons, and a few other places. GM doesn’t need it to do well everywhere to be a hit.

I love the story of the development of the C8 Z06. The engineers bought a Ferrari 458 to benchmark, sold it and bought a 488 and promptly sold that because they hated the turbo charged engine and went back to the naturally aspirated 458.

ICE Escalade is a literal money printing press. Year 4 on the market for this interation and they’re still selling fast at MSRP with zero incentives. Capacity constrained to about 45k units units with a $35k profit on each. Then there’s CT4/CT5 Blackwing which are basically sold out. Yes, Lyriq EV just hitting its stride, but the $$$$ is with the ICE vehicles.

I took over a lease on an E63 AMG for 8 months. the owner really wanted to get something else and it was offering a $5000 incentive on it. The monthly payment for those eight months ended up being something like 800 bucks a month which at the time was ridiculously good.
