How exactly do you see a Doctor in the UK?

Posted by UndergroundSaxClub@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 109 comments

TheRiddlerTHFC@reddit

Mine has a online triage form. You fill it in. They generally call to discuss. Then an appointment is made if needed. As an example, I filled in the triage form I had a spreading rash / swelling on my elbow. Within an hour I was seeing a doctor, who then referred me to A&E. 5 days later I was back home

Can you go to a fancy afternoon tea alone?

Posted by ChildhoodOk157@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 83 comments

TheRiddlerTHFC@reddit

I used to worry about going to a restaurant alone. Would I be thought of as sad or weird. Then I started travelling for work, and didnt want to always socialise, but still needed to eat. So I used to go to restaurants with a book / phone and do my thing. Most people dont care about others. And if someone thinks "oh look at that saddo", why do I care, I'll never see them again (plus I have a wife and kids at home). In short, if its not illegal or immoral, dont spend you time worrying about what strangers may or may not think about you.

Erm, only time ive been out of the country for more than 30 days was when I did Camp America. My wife also went travelling for 9 months. This was a lot more than 5 years ago.

Is it normal to be asked to pay £600 for a "mandatory 1:1 digital device" when starting a public secondary school?

Posted by Koolio_Koala@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 996 comments

TheRiddlerTHFC@reddit

My kids school insist that every child has a laptop with them. You can bring your own, or the school has a system where you can go through their supplier and get a chromebook - think the total cost is about £300. Going through the school means it is fully covered for damage (except intentional damage). We went through that option as that resolve any issues

What’s your approach to claiming expenses at work?

Posted by pinpoint321@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 184 comments

TheRiddlerTHFC@reddit

Firstly follow company rules. Thats the most important thing. Secondly claim for anything you are legally allowed to claim for. If youre allowed to claim for lunch, claim it, even if you would have bought it anyway

What is the most strictly enforced unwritten rule of British pub etiquette that outsiders just don't seem to grasp?

I do the same with trays at airport security. For some reason, people grab their stuff, leaving the tray on the conveyor. Not all airports have an automated return. Often is just stops the whole line

Seems quite simple to me. Request the holiday. If they say no, hand in your notice and see how they do without you completely. Saying no holiday for a whole month is insane

Have you ever purchased something, as an adult, that your parent has judged you negatively for? If so, what was/is it?

TheRiddlerTHFC@reddit

I don't tell my parents what I'm spending money on. Frankly its none of their business. With regards to cleaner, its the old adage time is money. I'd much rather pay someone to clean my house

What’s the fairest and most practical solution for managing drink costs on boys weekend away where people drink different amounts?

Posted by Upbeat_Map_348@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 160 comments

TheRiddlerTHFC@reddit

If i am in a place where others are drinking a lot more, I will decline to be part of the round and buy my own drinks. Presumably you are friends with these people a simple "I'm not drinking that much, I'll get my own"

Incredibly normal. To be clear you havent been ghosted at all. A couple of days beyond when they expected is not ghosting. These take time, particularly innlaage companies where multiple sign offs are required

OK my serious reply. Until puberty, kids can definitely have a bath every two or three days (unless they decide to channel their inner labradorite and roll in mud).
